and so he's focused on getting back as soon as he can. >> and the warriors may have caught a break. the team says steph curry's knee injury is a ligament sprain, but not a tear. good evening, and frank somerville. and i'm julie haener. currys injury will keep him out of the playoffs for two weeks, then he'll be reevaluated. he did tweet, he wrote, thanks for all the prayers and messages. can feel all the positive energy. god is great. all things considered, i'm going to be all right. it is a new challenge on the road to a championship, ktvu's amber lee has been talking to fans and is in palo alto tonight about steph's injury but we begin with debora villalon at oracle arena after talking to an orthopedic surgeon who knows this injury well. >> reporter: julie, we caught up with the team physician for the oakland raiders who also had a stint with the warriors in years past. he says injury is always waiting on the sidelines but curry's diagnosis is the best possible news. >> okay. we've got to find the spot. >> reporter: a cortisone shot for a shoulder joint, it's the off-season for wharton strudwick whose office holds the memorabilia of a team doctor, olympics, pro basketball, now oakland raiders. >> these guys are the best athletes in the world. they are at their because their bodies have been resistant to read -- to injuries. >> reporter: steph curry's slip and fall on a sweaty spot had everyone wondering, how bad was it? would he return in the playoffs? >> we'll be cautious and he won't play until he's completely ready. >> reporter: it will be two weeks, say the warriors, then reevaluate. >> if not two weeks, don't go crazy. >> reporter: it all depends on how well the injury responds to rest. >> 10 years ago they would have called this in his brain and you would take some aspirin and play. but obviously everything is a -- so much more sophisticated. >> this is the mcl that runs along the side of the knee. >> reporter: healthy, shows a dark and dense. >> you see this white signal here. >> this mcl with a gray one -- grade one sprain shows cloudy whiteness, that's the damage. >> the ligament gets stretched in a way so that it makes the need more like this and his knee went like that. sort of pulled on it. >> reporter: it's a common injury and in a football player, he would tape it, breaks it and go play. >> he's going to feel it right here. >> reporter: but curry can't be fast or agile wearing a brace so it has to heal. soar until then especially with any pressure on the inside of the leg. >> just what he tries to go sideways or when he does this, he plants and then tries to turn like that, that puts the force on it too. it's his game. that's his game. you feel less pain. >> reporter: pro athletes are in top shape and have the best treatments available. judging currys readiness in two weeks will be fairly simple. >> once they are sure they he can jump and run, either totally pain-free were almost pain-free, and he doesn't show any signs of instability, or laxity of his knee, he's ready to go. >> reporter: bob myers said he feels terrible for curry because steph does everything right. so to be injured twice in round one really unbelievable. myers was also asked if he places any blame for that untended sweat, so slippery on the floor. he says no. it's just one of those things. >> debora villalon, thank you. now to ktvu's amber lee who is in palo alto, you've been talking to warrior fans to get their reaction. i imagine they are disappointed. >> reporter: frank, we're at the patio bar in grill, even for a monday night was the warriors game, there were quite a number of fans here. and they tell me they are keeping a close eye on steph curry status. sports fans say it's heaven when you've got several teams playing this time of year. the giants and the a's, the sharks and of course the warriors. with or without steph curry, fans say they have faith. >> obviously they are going to miss steph but i think they are a high character team and i think they're going to do great. >> basketball fans are anticipating wednesday nights game five where the blue and gold could wrap up the series with the houston rockets. >> pull together and figure out a way to get the job done. >> reporter: there is a tinge of concern now that curry is sidelined for at least two weeks. >> everybody's hearts sank a little because he's a fantastic player. >> reporter: this father and son hoped to score some tickets to a playoff game. >> losing any of your stars is a tough thing to go through. >> sad for steph, i know how hard he's worked to stay healthy throughout the year. to see him go down like that, especially this time of year is a bit unfortunate. >> reporter: fans say the mark of a great team is how it handles adversity. if the warriors advance to the next round of the playoffs, it's only going to get tougher, facing either the portland trail blazers or the la clippers. but fans tell us they believe in the warriors mantra, strength in numbers. >> we have a good team. so hopefully they make it through. they really showed a lot of grit and poise. >> reporter: the manager here at the patio tells me she expects full house here on wednesday, as you might expect from most bay area sports bars for game five. frank and julie? >> i imagine. amber lee, thank you. here's the schedule for the remaining games. game five has ever mentioned, wednesday night at oracle in oakland. if the warriors don't beat the rockets, they would return to houston for game six on friday. and if necessary game seven would be next sunday back in oakland. if you go online you can find all of our reporting on the warriors at if the warriors don't beat the rockets, they would return to houston for game six on friday. going to tell people how to vote. >> this is also odd, but what interests me is that indiana is right next to ohio. you would think john kasich would be doing well in indiana. >> he said that his plan record heat around here, upper 80s and even low nineties, today's temperatures a week later, much cooler, lots of 60s, mid-60s, upper 60s and some low 60s, windy out there as well. wind gusts today already up to 40 miles an hour at sfo, some areas along the coast higher than that. weather system out here looks like it's going to bring us some rain as a nice-looking system, but as of now looks like a week system that will move in over us anyway, and bring us some rain on wednesday. so the wednesday morning commute looks wet. beyond that, wednesday afternoon might be a little wet. in the meantime back to a day tomorrow just like the day we had today. breezy out there, we talked about that, breezy again tomorrow afternoon. so if you are out on the avenues, sand is blowing across the great highway, you know what you can expect. outside, no fog. a few clouds, cool overnight. winds are blowing, above freezing obviously but it will be chilly when you don't tomorrow morning. in the afternoon, 70s, the yellows look where they are, pushed to the east, that's the strong westerly flow blowing cool, moist pacific air and classic spring pattern. classic spring pattern to have wood like this too as you know. so as this system clicks off, this new system clicks in, that starts wednesday morning, what the model does with it, tomorrow morning, there's your day, here we go into wednesday morning, wednesday, 7:00 a.m. and here comes, clicks through about 10 am, central bay area, they've slowed it down a little bit since the earlier model runs, but the idea being 7:00 a.m., have some showers in santa rosa, a slow progression across the bay area proper, by noon, wants to be down by san jose. then it's kind of out by then checkout afternoon, more showers, some moisture coming back in, that could bring a thunder shower or two in the mountains, winter weather advisory into effect and more snow, maybe six inches of snow. we'll see. it takes a little time to develop. tomorrow, like today. wednesday, wet and cooler for sure. temperatures on wednesday in the mid and low 60s, showers likely wednesday morning for that commute, at least went on the roadways, then we warm-up beyond that as we head towards your saturday and sunday, back into sunday, into the mid-80s, even upper 80s. so that would be neat, we've got a quarter inch or something, that would be good. >> covering all the bases this week, we got rain hopefully, some son. >> wind and heat. you're right. >> thank you, bill. sports is next. mark has late work about another nba team with a big injury problem. lots to catch up on tonight. giants are in progress right now. not having an easy go of it but they are winning. >> yeah. baseball to talk about and warrior fans, stick around. huge playoff news to tell you about that just developed. the giants aren't feeling it right now, little bit of an understatement. even with the talent, challenge san diego padres in town, nothing coming ev -- madison baumgartner on the mound, however they do lead. and they've got cute kids attending the ballgame. double your fun right there. second inning, angel pagan, no giants fans will say why didn't you do this yesterday with the bases loaded and nobody out? he does today in the second. three hits tonight. fourth inning, 1-1. hunter pence ticket to ride, that's gone. and the giants lead 2-1. however, the padres would make a go of it, even with buster posey swinging for the fences. and delivering, third home run of the year, 5-2 lead. the padres scored two in the eight, right now a 5-4 ballgame, the giants hanging on for dear life. meantime for the a's, about the point on a long road trip hotel food sounds terrible, you want to sleep in your own bed and every piece of clothing you've got looks wrinkled. the a's are probably playing a little like they feel after a promising start to a 10 game journey back east, they've now lost three in a row. four runs in the fifth inning for the detroit tigers. three delivered off the bat of miguel cabrera. gone, he was for-4 with two homers, that one off kendall gray but one pitch later, victor martinez, deep right. and deposited into the cheap seats. 6-0 lead. the tigers well on their way, but not without a little circus activity for the a's here, marcus simeon, routine pop fly to center field. youngster tyler collins says i don't see it. there it is, coming over to rescue him, justin upton. boots it around, he throws into the infield. that gets away. these are big leaders, ladies and gentlemen. and later, simeon would score but well short of what they needed. 7-3 final. jordan zimmermann wins for the tigers, 4-0, 7-through the final. three straight losses. the words good news all in proper perspective, but considering what it looked like, when stephen curry went down yesterday in houston, hearing that nothing was torn, surgery doesn't enter into the prognosis, warrior fans have to see that as a good thing. as you look at it, just completely spread out there, he also sustained bruises as well as what they are calling an old- fashioned sprain of the knee. steph, as he is, of the lionheart, tried to give it a go, no way. this is video of him after the game, as he headed toward the team bus, not happening. he will miss two weeks, that is probably a very good scenario for the warriors, as their general manager bob myers addressed the press earlier today and talked about how the organization is dealing with it. >> steve, we're lucky to have a coach that's completed to be able to kind of communicate with staff, and help him make a difficult decision in the heat of the moment. so we'll listen to him, listen to our group, we'll watch him, prior to that game, he played three on three and five on five. and i asked him, in the third quarter, by the way, how is your ankle? he said the ankle is fine, he didn't feel anything. i was curious. because he hadn't played. and so we'll be cautious. and he won't play until he is completely ready to play. >> your entire season can change in a split second. the warriors now know that and the la clippers have a full understanding of that feeling tonight. devastating injury and maybe injuries, for them, here is the play when the lights go out on the clippers. watch chris paul reach-in on defense, and he will immediately have himself a problem with the right hand and he knows it. talking to one of the trainers right there, emotional as he goes off the court. he knows it's a serious injury to his right shooting hand. and sure enough, it was diagnosed as a fracture of basically the right palm and damian lillard out of oakland, the blazers pounds with a 12-4 run. there is chris paul after the game, also blake griffin sustained a thigh injury and he is questionable. the series is 2-2. cast on his hand, forget about him for the rest of the series. you never like to see that. even on the other team. a couple other playoff encounters, russell westbrook with 36 points, okc put dallas away 4-1. charlotte have evened up the heat back east, two games apiece, kemba walker, career-best 34 for the hornets. extended rest never sounds like a bad thing, hopefully the sharks feel that way, nashville predators in anaheim tonight, forcing a game seven which means the sharks want open around two until the weekend, the sharks continue on about their business, working out and getting ready for whoever they play. and they are just playing great hockey right now. >> on both ends, i've had some time off and i've also gone from game seven into the next series. and it's tough when you only have -- you don't get that time to rest. so i enjoyed the couple days. and we're going to get good practice in and get ready to go. >> strange how it can happen in the nba. any sport, really. >> yeah. thank you. and thank you for joining us. see you later. (explosion) is everybody okay?! i'm fine. thanks for waiting. what was that? water heater, gas line-- the training's the same, people. just stay low and move out! honey, luke's gone. claire, spontaneous human combustion is very rare. i don't think he exploded, phil. the rope ladder works. at least someone followed protocol. oh! oh, it's there! smoke is coming out of luke's stupid suitcase. like his old man, luke is a magician. (laughs) i'm taking lessons from some guy my dad found online. he came personally recommended from the guy who runs the warlock conference up in modesto. (loud snoring) (sighs) (continues snoring) ow! ow! ow! ow! (grunts)
