Another whale in five weeks washed ashore. Scientists along with everyone else is wondering whats going on. Debora villalon is wondering what is going on with the rash of dead whales. Reporter it may just be these whales washed up in places we can see them instead of more remote spots. But experts are intrigued. Park rangers on saturday found what has become a frequent sight lately. A dead whale. This one a young 28foot gray washed up on Portuguese Beach between jenner and bodega bay. It seems we have a spike of mortality that were seeing them wash up on various beaches. The fact were seeing so many within such a short period of time and such a small Geographic Area is setting off alarms. Reporter last week a decaying gray whales was found rolling on the surf on half moon bay. An adult female, 40 feet long. Mendocino county got a stranded gray. This is the tail end of the gray whale migration. And theyre health can be diminished by hunger. They have not fed since they left arctic waters. So theyre working on an empty tank of gas. When theyre under weight and malnourished. A 48foot sperm whale also in pacifica is believed to have died of old age. Based on the amount of ware on its teeth. Sometimes its not so peaceful. A young gray one of two found in santa cruz last month had killer whale teeth marks on its body. Evidence of an orca attack. The reality makes generalization typical. Were not seeing one unified principal thats giving us an indication thats theres one thing thats causing it. Reporter warming waters are a big concern because ocean nutrients thrive in warmer temperatures. Thats something scientists are looking at too. That many of them have been pulled out of the oil data to go to the oil spill in Santa Barbara which is having its own effect on the wildlife. For the second time in a row, protesters are on the street. At last check they had returned to Frank Ogawa Plaza and were chanting quote well be back. To fight against what theyre calling a curfew. Oakland mayor libby schaaf says shes using existing laws to prevent nighttime protests that have previously turned violent and destructive. There were several arrests last night. Its not clear if anyone has been arrested yet tonight. Santa fe says a grass fire appears to have started in a homeless encampment. The road was shut down as crews made their way into the area to put out the flames. The fire proved difficult to knock down but crews say they had the flames out at 6 30. However theyre keeping a close eye on the area. No one was arrested in connection of the fire and no one was injured. Firefighters say a three alarm grass fire that burned behind a row of homes proved to be firefighters say it appears that a person welding a fence started that fire. They say the fire is a reminder to clear away long grasses from your home and to keep water or a hose near by when working with tools that use heat or can cause sparks. Fog already making a big come back as you can see in the satellite here well come in a bit closer and you will see the coverage a bit close e closer to the push out there. You can see the low cloud signature. Tomorrow is going to be another cool day out there. Heres a live camera. All those little drops on there correspond to drops hitting the camera lens. You have a report of drizzle near the coast and around the bay. That will be a factor tomorrow morning. Heres a forecast model showing you cloud cover blanketing most of the bay area. Caltrans crews are finishing the last of a resurfacing job that kept it close since friday. The bridge closed down at 10 00. Caltrans says it is on track to reopen. Crews had to completely remove the asphalt surface by grinding it down. The bridge opened in 1967. The surface was getting a little tattered. The new surface is made of polyester concrete. Something caltrans came up with back in the 1980s. Very light but also very durable. It helps the bridge fight against corrosion. Just makes it for a good solid drive. When the bridge reopens tomorrow, drivers will see temporary pavement markers, permanent striping will be added at a later date. And a man found stabbed is in stable condition now. Authorities responded to a and found the victim. He had been stabbed several times. He was taken to the hospital. Police have not released any suspect or motive information. Oakland Police Arrested a man in connection with a triple homicide yesterday in north oakland. Damian robinson in oakland is being held without bail. Officers took him into custody after a two hour stand off in a home on 54th street near adeline street. The three victims are reported to be robinsons relatives. Hes due in court thursday. A two alarm fire is being called suspicious tonight. As ktvus Cristina Rendon explains, this isnt the first time a fire has broke out in that location. Flames prompted a call to vallejo firefighters just before 9 00 this morning. We have an abandoned commercial building with smoke showing. Reporter this used to be a strip mall that housed a nightclub and liquor store. This fire is considered suspicious and the third one to spark up here in the past eight months. Although this abandoned b uilding reporter this fire broke out in a building that used to belong to the school district. It since has been taken down. No one was found inside this building but the electricity wasnt hooked up and the homeless were likely using it as a place to stay warm. Exposure, no damage during the fire. Were able to put it under control at approximately an hour and a half. Reporter three engines battled the blaze. Its possible the city may decide to demolish it too. A former strip mall turned refuge now scorched beyond use. Cristina rendon. Reporter california Vietnam Veterans remembered fallen comrades today in the annual reading of the names in sacramento. That memorial began at 7 00 this morning at the memorial wall. A long line of veterans took turns reading the names of the almost 6,000 californians that lost their lives in the war. One local lawmakers says this ceremony is important to those who die and thousands of Vietnam Veterans living now in sacramento. Theres nothing like this. The poignantcy, the sadness, what could have been. I think its important we all remember that. More than 58,000 americans were killeded in that war. Preparations are under way for memorial day ceremonies at the precidio tomorrow. The precidio is the biggest in the bay area. This years event will mark the 40th anniversary at the end of the vietnam war and will also mark 70 years since world war ii ended. The ceremony starts at 7 30 at the main postin the precidio. There are other memorials planned for tomorrow morning. In clayton, a ceremony is planned till 10 00 a. M. In sonoma all veterans will be honored for their Service Beginning at 7 00 a. M. The two had run away the night before from a nevada house for troubled youth. The family says theyre not dwelling on the crime but on bobs recovery. Hundreds of people marched through the city after a judge acquitted a Police Officer of Involuntary Manslaughter in connection with the shooting death of an unarmed couple after a car chase in 2012. 71 protesters were arrested but the mayor said that a majority of the demonstrators were lawful. They served as an example of peaceful demonstration and dialogue that will help us to move forward. Now officer michael brello was one of 13 officers who fired 137 round into that car. Police started chasing the couple after reports of gunfire from their vehicle. Prosecutors said the sound was that of the car backfiring. The judge ruled that the prosecution failed to prove that his shot directly led to the couples death. An unattended car and the smell of gasoline was enough to who called in a bomb squad. During the investigation, the bomb squad noticed a Pressure Cooker in the car and the Pressure Cooker was destroyed. Pressure cookers can be used to make bombs. Thousands of miles of crude oil the pipeline that spilled thousands of miles of crude oil is the only one without an automatic shut off. The spill has killed at least five pelicans, a sea lion and untold numbers of fish. Wildlife recovery teams are responding to reports of oil wildlife away from the spill site. Animals like pelicans and sea lions can move long distances quickly so these animals can get oil near the spill source than move to other areas. An oiled sea lion was discovered miles in the spill. The pipeline owner defended the manual shut down message saying its the standard across the country for liquid pipelines. An Oakland Church is celebrating a milestone. Those who attended today had one eye on the past and the other on the future of the church. Looking at the bay bridge, do you even see the bay bridge there. Looks like alcatraz. From emeryville the thick fog made it difficult to see alcatraz. It all makes sense. Yeah, certainly does. Standing out there and getting ready for summertime weather. Shimmering and getting wet. Almost seems like youre walking into a refrigerator. No major change in the forecast. Changes over the next few days. Of course the big headline will be the fog here in the bay area. Texas, parts of oklahoma, arkansas. We had significant rainfall. Over the past 24 hours, tulsa oklahoma over 4inches of rainfall over the past 24 hours. We had serious flooding for this part of the country as you can see. The satellite and radar looping over the past 18 hours. All these symbols correspond to a fog report or reports of heavy rainfall so you can see how widespread and dense it has been at least with all those reports showing up to that part of the country. Back here in the bay area we do have this. The fog making a come back. Already near the coast. That was a constant all day long. Pushing back to right around the bend. Already increasing and this is a sure sign that tomorrow were going to hold on to those cool numbers in the forecast. Especially closer to the coast and right around the bay.
