Traffic to and from San Francisco was completely shut down for nearly two hours. Weve been here since the bomb threat brought everything here to a screeching halt. The b. A. R. T. Station was closed and everybody evacuated and so were several streets. Some residents were even told to stay inside their homes. This happened after someone called in a bomb threat about that specific bus to the chp. So b. A. R. T. Police brought in their bomb sniffing dogs one which they said hit on a compartment on that bus. The bomb squad was brought in, but before the technician could make his way around, they had to bring in another bus. It was a situation where we couldnt use a robot. So he physically had to go in there and make a hand entry. Found that there was no explosives inside that compartment and now the bus has been cleared and lines have resumed service. More information on a freeway accident that killed one person and injured another when a car slammed right into a roadside work crew, tonight were learning more about the young man who was killed in a search for a better life that led him to be part of that work crew. Reporter the Coroners Office tells me that the victim is mark santos he was 24 years old and he was working right over there alongside 101 when the car veered off the road, hit the two workers, the fence, and four parked cars. Reporter it happened so fast, the black mercedes heading south on highway 101 suddenly veered off the road at 9 00 a. M. Where a four person crew was working on the grass near by. Santos was hit and killed. Its been a terrible day here for our staff and caltrans crews especially. And for all the people working with him. Were really devastated by this loss. It would mean for example if you have a Traffic Court date in either city after october 6, you would then have to drive to another courtroom in santa clara. Reporter the doors wont be locked, the courthouses in palo alto and morgan hill will not be closed but each will lose a courtroom and services such as Traffic Court relocated to other cities. Were here to provide justice, were here to serve people and today we tell them were not going to do that at the level we did. Reporter bryan walsh calls it a sad day for the people of Santa Clara County due to budget cuts. It will mean the end of traffic and Small Claims Court at the palo alto courthouse. And the same as the morgan hill courthouse with the exception of people with cases will have to drive to san jose or santa clara. That will mean a longer ride. A tougher road to get justice, its not right. Reporter santa claras courts face an 800,000 hole in june. The Council Passed a budget that included more than 100 million in increases but it cames after years of deep cuts. We needed 262 million for the trial courts just to break even statewide. Last year was a very difficult year. Reporter since 2010, 64 courthouses in california have been closed along with 205 courtrooms affecting 2 million californians according to the Judicial Council of california. Theyre going to feel it and its not fair to them. Reporter court advocates are trying to get the legislature to restore that funding. When that funding returns the funding theyve lost here the services will return to these two courthouses until then, they are trying to figure out ways to make it easier on the public such as scheduling court dates or court times that are away from the busy commute hours so that people have an easier time getting to these courthouses.
