headed for the bay area has some people worried about erosion, and possible land slides on mount diablo. just two months ago, a wildfire there burned 3700 acres. now there are concerns the rain could trigger land slides on charred slopes. erosion experts say some earth movement is inevitable, but as long a the coming rains are not heavy, the risk is minimal. follow the ktvu weather team for the and another young woman in critical condition. tonight, we've learned that the two were shot after being involved in a minor fender bender. ktvu's amber lee is at san francisco general. she spoke with the victim's mother about what the loss means to her loved ones. >> reporter: frank, the 21-year- old victim is here with life- threatening injuries. tonight, we spoke with the mother. >> it hurts so bad. me and my daughter, we was like this. inseparable. >> reporter: amanda blake described her daughter as the light of the family. hoping to become a lawyer with the dream of helping young people. >> she was the first in our family to go to college. >> reporter: every saturday, she would coach the basketball team in hayward, where she once was a student. mom showed us this cap she wore, when she headed out the door on saturday night. it was around 2:00 a.m., when warren and her friend left the club. she got into what investigators describe as a fender bender. her mom says a detective told her, the driver of the other car jumped out and shot him 15 times and then approached melquisha. >> he went around to where my baby was. she had her hands up like this, and he shot her in the face. >> reporter: mom says she wants justice for her daughter. >> it's hard. i'm not going to have my daughter coming in at 2 or 3 when she gets off work. hear her coming in looking for something to eat. it's painful. >> reporter: she would have celebrated her 24th birthday this saturday. she asked for a fish fry with oysters and to wear her warriors outfit. mom tells me, she will still have the vigil, only it will be a memorial, and her daughter will be buried in her warrior outfit. new at 10:00, the man suspected of repeatedly kicking the head of a sleeping homeless woman in san francisco was charged today. timothy chase faces two counts of felony assault. he's scheduled to appear in court tomorrow san francisco thrice did not launch an investigation, until the chief became aware of the video obtained by ktvu. a man pleading in in the july killing of an 8-year-old girl. darnell williams is the suspected gunman. prosecutors say they went to an apartment on wilson street, rang the doorbell, and williams opened fire. alaysha carradine was killed. three others were wounded. prosecutors said the men went to the home to confront a man who was not there. a 64-year-old man from hayward has been identified as the innocent victim on a high speed crash in 880 in oakland. the driver hit was a former linebacker on the oakland raiders. he was also killed. kate spoke with neighbors of the innocent victim. >> reporter: highway patrol workers said the man who died was one time nfl star, thomas howard. the 64-year-old driver behind the wheel of this crv never had a chance to get out of the way. in hayward, neighbors of liu say he was headed home. chp officers say howard's black bmw was going north at speeds of more than 100 miles per hour when he lost control. >> it actually bounced along the freeway, and went head on into the suv there. >> reporter: both liu and howard died at the scene. liu's wife got the horrible news on vacation in china. >> i just feel for her. sad. >> reporter: howard, a linebacker for the raiders from 2006 until 2010, was just released by the atlanta falcons. a long time friend and high school teammate told ktvu, he's struggling to accept what happened. >> he was a laid back guy. funny guy. he had the community. he had his friends. he was a guy that you would want to be around nonstop. >> reporter: investigators say there were no obvious signs out here that howard might have been driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but they are waiting on the results of a toxicology report before they will rule that out. ktvu, channel 2 news. new at 10:00, a decision tonight that means police officers in palo alto will soon be wearing body mounted video cameras. the city council voted unanimously today to buy the body cameras. initially, just nine officers will wear them. the cameras should help record evidence, and increase officer safety and accountability. it's part of a $300,000 camera upgrade for palo alto police. patrol cars are also going to be upgraded with cameras that will face in all four directions. at issue, a contract provision that will give workers six weeks of paid family medical leave. b.a.r.t. management initially signed off on the deal, but now claims the provision was inadvertently included in the final agreement. union reps say not so. >> it's stunning that you would have that many legal >> ktvu spoke with some about how that incident unfolded, and what happens now. >> reporter: cell phone video shot friday afternoon inside san francisco's valencia gardens housing complex shows an angry confrontation between police and residents. >> i started hearing that my brother screaming out that he couldn't breathe, so i really got worried. >> a man in a gray shirt has been punched by an officer. >> that's considered reasonable force. >> that suspect initially had a confrontation with other officers. he was ordered to leave not once but twice. >> police say the melee began after three officers identified themselves and attempted to stop 20-year-old paris williams from illegally riding a bicycle on the sidewalk. the officers chased him to his apartment. his sister says he was dragged outside. >> one had a knee in his back. another had one at the back of his head. and the lady was rushing to put the handcuffs on him. >> reporter: police say were trying to interfere. >> i know him. he's employeed. he goes to school. he just recently picked up an interest in photography. this whole incident seems out of character for him. >> reporter: police have charged him with resisting arrest, and battery of a police officer. but late this afternoon, prosecutors discharged the case, spending further investigation. williams' friends and family say they will hold a rally tomorrow, protesting police brutality. in san francisco, david stevenson, ktvu, channel 2 news. an inmate at san quentin who he was released early to relieve overcrowding has now faced three more felonies for a chase and crash last friday night. the contra costa county district attorney's office says sean rogers is charged with evading police, causing injury, and leaving the scene of the accident. authorities say he initially, or rather they initially started chasing him, because he was driving a stolen car. rogers then crashed into another car, and injured two women. one remains hospitalized. the other suffered a broken arm. rogers had been serving time at san quentin on a weapons charge, before he was released. the faculty is asking for a formal review of how the school is being run. ten days ago, administrators announced cuts to classes and reversed them. the faculty is asking to review the administration. the president was not named in the request, he said he welcomed the review. 2 investigates a sharp increase in the number of car break-ins in san francisco. the numbers that we obtain show there have been more than 1300 car break-ins so far this year in san her, please give them a call. two key developments tonight in a legal battle over patent rights between apple and samsung. a three judge panel revived apple's request to ban the sale of certain sunday in illinois, indiana, michigan, wisconsin, and missouri. accurate predictions and timely warnings are credited with keeping the death toll down. a father's plea to remove a disturbing image looking for at least two people after a teenager was shot and killed this afternoon in a city park. heather holmes is live at centennial park with the evidence investigators found at the scene. >> reporter: frank, i want to first tell you, within the last hour, the boy's grandmother came here and wanted to see the last spot where her grandson was alive. it was just beyond the playground, near the baseball field, where investigators tell me that the shooter fired off at least five shots. and they're trying to figure out if the victim was the intended target. >> i'm devastated, and i hate, i hate who did this. i hate who did this. >> reporter: anger and sadness over the death of a loved one, gunned down in this popular park in hayward. just hours after she came to the scene where her grandson, christopher was shot, distinctive yellow markers doted the area. crime scene investigators placed the markers over anything of value. the 23rd piece of evidence found in the aftermath of the shooting. hayward police tell me, they are talking to several juveniles who were at the park and may have seen what happened. as of tonight, investigators are not releasing any information about a possible motive or suspects, except to tell me that two people, including the shooter ran from the scene, into a residential neighborhood. >> he was a wonderful, wonderful young man, smart. he had a good heart. he was a beautiful, beautiful child. he didn't deserve to die. he didn't deserve to die at all. >> reporter: police tell me, they did not receive reports of a fight, or disturbance at the something today that it has never done before. the media giant promised a grieving father it will remove a certain satellite image from google maps. we have blocked out the body of 14-year-old kevin bererra in this image from google maps. his father says it wasn't until this weekend he realized his son's body can be seen on google maps. he tried, and failed to contact google, and we aired his of a sailer on a ship at the port of oakland. jana katsuyama is live with what she learned. >> reporter: the ship is still here tonight. you can see the cranes off in the distance. coast guard officials tell me, they're waiting for the coroner's autopsy results to determine if the sailer died from an industrial accident or a medical condition. oakland emergency crews say they were called to the port about 2:30 this afternoon, where a ship was docked at shnitzer steel. >> the crew from the ship was already performing cpr and making an attempt to defibrillate the individual. >> reporter: the oakland chief says paramedics tried to revive the man, but he had already passed away. >> the crew had obtained his passport and they were speaking with the captain and the coast guard. >> reporter: witnesses say the man was working in a crane operator compartment. but other accounts indicate the man may have fallen six feet from the platform. records show the ship is based in portugal. the coast guard says the man was a polish sailer and the ship's chief engineer. >> we're going to give an osha report and they'll investigate if they need to. >> reporter: the police department is assisting with the investigation. about an hour ago, the coroner's office told me they expect to complete the autopsy by wednesday. jana katsuyama, ktvu, channel 2 news. a south bay man is demanding answers after his wife was shot and killed this past weekend by santa clara county sheriff's deputies. it happened early saturday morning in the couple's troy. investigators say 61-year-old andrea gionet came at deputies and they had no choice. >> how can you subdue a person that old, or invalid? you should be able to do it with your hands. >> some neighbors say she had been arguing with her husband, but he left before deputies arrived. a little league organization in lake county is trying to raise money after a recent fire that could be a case of arson. the fire on november 9 destroyed the equipment shed. all the equipment for 15 teams is now gone. they say it will cost $20,000 to replace it all. they hope to have that money in time for opening day in march. now to tonight's special report. in the thousands of californians who have received cancelation notices from their health insurance companies. today, the head of california's insurance exchange says by the end of the week, people who received those notices should learn if they can keep their plans. the dilemma facing families. >> reporter: 34-year-old army veteran angel rodriguez says it's unfair to him and his family. they had health insurance they liked, and could afford until this cancelation letter, what he calls the president's broken promise. >> to me, it's not the affordable care act. it seems more like the unaffordable care county. >> reporter: the daly city father told us, so far his insure has not offered to telephone the plan. that he does not cover for subsidies. and the least expensive option more than doubles his previous cost. he says he will cover his child but may go without coverage himself. >> sometimes people call us, and they're frightened. they don't know how they're going to handle leaving the office, the other girl began bullying again, so it was not an effective strategy. >> the school says they are investigating. her daughter was also asked to join an anti-bullying committee. the latest in a series of robberies involving men working outdoors trying to earn a living. today's incident happened about 12:30 in oakland. the painters had just finished their lunch break. the robbers drove off, and no one was injured. the painters say it was their first day on the job. george zimmerman was arrested today on domestic abuse charges. he says he was trying to avoid a fight as she attempted to throw him out of their home in seminole county, florida. he is due in court tomorrow. toronto mayor, rob ford was defiant today. ford rushed down the aisle to confront a heckler, but rushed into a city council woman. he then helped her up and apologized. he said there would be a war in the next election. in the recent days, the mayor has admitted to smoking crack cocaine, driving drunk, and using crude language on live tv. nap time is prime time after pictures of their 23- month-old boy and his new puppy took the internet by storm. millions of people have now seen pictures of little bo and theo the puppy taking their nap together. is that just adorable or what? bo's mom started posting the photos on her blog after she realized the two liked to sleep together. the two wal-mart stores starting on the busiest shopping day of the year. the boycott isn't intended to hurt, but to help wal-mart employees. >> reporter: julie, critics say wal-mart pay is so low, many employees have to go on food stamps or get other government assistance to get by. the hope is that it will spur wal-mart to play its employees a livable wage. at a wal-mart in canton, ohio, store managers are urging employees to participate in a food drive, so their own coworkers can have enough for a thanksgiving dinner. >> i know that you know, when you want to do something good for somebody, it just comes from the heart. >> it's like scrooge posing as mother teresa. >> reporter: he spent five years as secretary of labor in the clinton administration. he says wal-mart pays who agree, $8 an hour is next to impossible to live on. >> i worked in a nursing home for a long time. even though i made more than $8 an hour. what i made, it wasn't enough. >> i made 23, a little over 23. $8, i don't know what the hell you could do with $8. >> we're talking about the largest employer in the entire united states. do they not have some social responsibility? >> reporter: professor rice says a raise for wal-mart employees will have a ripple effect on the rest of the economy, actually even creating even more jobs. we reached out to wal-mart for a response and have yet to hear back from them. ken wayne, ktvu, channel 2 news. the rush of shoppers to retail stores on the day after thanksgiving appears to be slowing down as online shopping picks up. according to the nealson forecast, almost half of shoppers plan to buy online. up 30% from last year. nealson expects shoppers to spend about 2% more this year than in 2012. a federal judge refused to issue a temporary restraining order that would have blocked homeless people living on the beverly bulb. the 40-acre site is located north of golden gate field. the city of albany says it poses health and safety concerns. the city council approved spending a half million dollars to clean up the campsite. and helped the people living there transition into shelters. plans call for the albany bulb to become a part of east shore state park. we're still tracking the showers in the north bay. that shower activity is going to drop south over the next few hours, and it's going to make for a pretty wet
