Reporter witnesses described this 737 touching down. Its nose slamming to the runway, then screeching to a stop, tipped forward. The foam wheel didnt come out. It landed on its nose and started skidding. Reporter there was no fire, and the passengers and crews were able to evacuate the plane on emergency chutes. We had up to 10 persons treated at the scene. Four refused medical attention. Reporter and treated at the hospital. Mostly back and neck pain. Some anxiety. The flight was coming from nashville. Apparently unevent. At the end, when the nose gear failed, air Traffic Controllers scrambled to divert other inbound flights, and alert first responders. I tried not to think about that at all. A palo alto man died in the crash of his small plane today, his wife survived thanks to the help of a nurse who just happened to be passing by. Witnesses said it appeared to be in trouble right away. The plane came down in a wooded area, about a mile from the airport, and ended up upside down. 67yearold steven leften died on impact, but his wife, karen leften was alive. And happened to be fortunate a nurse was walking by. Shes playeried to one of our deputies. She arrived at the scene within minutes. Steven is said to be an experienced pilot who took meticulous care of his airplane. A Good Samaritan was struck and killed by a passing car. Noel walker is live on the scene of the accident on interstate 280 in wood side. And tells us the 32yearold man pulled over and was only trying to help. Reporter that accident happened just north of wood side road. It ended with one family choking back tears. There is a loss for words. I miss him. Hes my little brother. Reporter 32yearold Kirk Peterson was driving on 280 early sunday morning, when he happened on an accident. He ran across the freeway to help victims in an suv that was pushed across lanes into the guardrail by a suspected drunk driver. Another suv hit peterson. He died trying to help others. It was automatic. That was just kirk. He was selfless. Put other people first. He wanted people to feel special, but it was him that was special. Reporter peterson was the youngest of the three brothers. A star basketball player whos team won gold twice in the panam games. His newlywed bride, now a widow, too young to bear that title, and the loss. He was all about his family. That was his number one priority always. Reporter Brandon Peterson said his brother planned a Surprise Party for him on his birthday. It was the day of the accident. It was the last memory they have together. The Highway Patrol came to the rescue of an injured hiker on mount tamelpias. A 26yearold new york visiter was unable to walk after she injured herself hiking on the trail above alpine lake. The helicopter lowered a paramedic, and hoisted her up, and took her to a waiting ambulance. A sail boat skipper is in custody facing federal charges after he allegedly assaulted a coast guard officer. The boat came to their actings because it has no registration, or documentation markings. The coast guard says he refused to let a boarding party on his boat, then took off. An armed teen finally boarded the boat outside the gate. Thats when the teen says mccoremick attacked an officer.
