We welcome you to the chevrolet world series on fox postgame show. The royals, after losing game one, now have a 21 lead in this world series with just a whale of a ball game. A hardfought 32 win. Where, again, the bull pen was unbelievable for kansas city. Who have i got with me . How about hall of Famer Frank Thomas at the end and a couple of world series champs, nick swisher and gabe kapler. Im kevin burkhardt. The bull pen was ridiculous for kansas city and the orves hffen something to do with it well. Here is Ken Rosenthal with escobar and gordon. First pitch of the game, alcides. Hit a double and scored a run. What were you looking for from tim hudson . I was looking for possible i know he throw me a fastball the first pitch of the game and i look and i go to i want to swing at the first pitch and try to hit the basketball aeball and g double. You took a 30 lead into the bottom of the sixth with your bull pen ready. How confident are you in that situation . In that situation i have confidence in my bull pen. I tell everybody after the sixth inning, one or two run or whatever, its hard to beat kansas city. Alcides, thank you very much. Thank you. Alex, lineup change today. Yeah. Youve been batting sixth and moved to second. What did you find out about the change and what a difference it dit mak ddid it make . He told me not to change anything and gave me confidence. We had dyson in the outfield and wanted to keep that righty lefty lineup going and seemed to work out. Sixth inning, alcides on first. 10, youre up in the count. What did you think was going to happen there . What were you looking for . Trying to drive the ball and struggling at the plate and trying to get a good pitch to hit and make something to happen and luckily i got a good hit and put a swing on it and with alcides at first, he will usually score. How do you feel about your chances right now . We take it one game at a time. We are at home. They beat us at home and we came back and win. We cant be satisfied with this great game and intense game. Come back tomorrow and hopefully do the same. Alex, congratulations. Back to you guys. Kenny, thanks. Swish, before we get to the bull own on the offense. Gordon to the 2 hole and paid off right away in the first inning. I thought a huge move by ned. Like you said he has been struggling. Two hole and get more fastballs to hit and first inning gives himself up and moves the runner to third down and huge rbi double later in the game and great move by ned and paid off. He was 0 for 17 and struggling. Frank, we didnt get on this pregame show. You said hosmer a big day. 25th birthday today. That 11pitch atbat to make it 30 to lopez who didnt give up hits was epic. Hes on fire in the alcs but a little slow in the world series. They needed him to get going. What a big hit up the middle to give the team the lead. Hes that type of player. This guy in the future is that big 30 home run and hundred rbi guy consistently for this royal ball club. Bull pen . Shut down down tthe giants agai now you have finnegan to add into the mix as nasty as those other guys. Wade davis stands out to me as the best in the bull pen. He had 12 pitches tonight and 9 of them for strikes. Utilized that wipeout 126 curveball and holds it with a knuckle grip and he pounds the strike joan consistentzone cons in and night out. Pitching in the College World series and the world series. That happens like never. College football is going on fox sports 1. Oregon and cal. The ducks up 3114 the score in the second quarter. It will be followed by postgame coverage. Coming up on fox, your late local news. Hope you enjoyed the broadcast tonight. We will see you over on fox sports 1. Enjoy it. Royals take game three. Captions by vitac www. Vitac. Com we are fox sports that is down the line. Crawford, they will bring him around. The giants are on the board. The rally in the 6th inning was not enough. And the royals now lead the world series two games to one. Good evening. Thank you for joining us for the special world series edition of ktvu channel 2 news. A big win tonight for kansas city in the pivotal game three. What a tough loss for the giants and hudson. There are still two home games tomorrow night and sunday night. We want to take you to the podium to bruce. He did a good job getting us a double. American league teams have had trouble in the last five or so world series playing in National League parks. Does this show that this Kansas City Team is set up more like a National League team. If you look at their pitching, you know, you can say well they might not need the dh. Thats how well they threw the ball. I agree its more like a National League team. Very well balanced, speed. They do the Little Things well. Their defense played very well. We hit some balls hard. We couldnt made a couple of nice plays out there. But it always comes down to pitching. I dont care if youre in the National League or american league. If you pitch well, you probably have a good chance to win the game. Any last ones for bruce . All right. Well let him go. That was the giants manager talking about the fact that the other team had a Strong Defense but we couldnt do it tonight. Mark, i can imagine where you are inside at t park probably not a very good feeling. You also went in for a minute, didnt you. Yeah. I was in there. The pregame was so exciting. I know. You get into the game and the royals score. It seemed like a little bit flat there until the giants came back and rallied and then the stadium just picked up. Lets bring in our Sports Reporter here, scott reese. What did you make of the game tonight . I felt so bad for tim hudson. His first world series. He pitched well but they took a picture of him in the dugout after he was pulled from the game. He just had this look that said gosh that was my that may have been my one chance to pitch in the world series and look. He is a competitor. This meant the world to tim hudson and it meant the world to the giants for tim hudson. If you asked the guys during the Division Series and the championship series, all of the motivations, there are a lot of reasons but they said they want to do it for hudy. This meant a great deal to him and the team for him. He pitched a good game. Youre not going to win a lot of games in the post season with four hits. He was fine until the he have and then it unraveled a little bit. Escobar makes it 20 kansas city. And then the birthday boy comes up. You have to give it to a guy for doing it on his birthday. Off of lopez whose job is to get lefties out. He does it as well as anyone in the playoffs. Now, thats not his run. So the streak is intact. Gordon scores. Its 30. And then the pinch hitter had the big home run in the previous series. Inside and down the line. Crawford around to score and the giants have life. Its 31. That turned out to be their only extra base hit of the game. Wade davis in the 8th absolutely lights out. He bee fuddles panik. And then over to holland to one of the best in baseball. This bullpen is for real. 7th save of the post season which gives you how many close games these royals have played. Thats it, 32. You talked about the energy in the pregame. It disappeared quickly because the royals scored in the top of the 1st. And the giants got it a little bit back in the 6th inning with the two runs. But when you have four hits in the game, three singles and a double, its hard to generate the energy. As great as the giants fans are, they need something to cheer about. That was the heart of the giants order there in the 9th and holland mowed them down. Thats what you want, your 3, 4, 5 coming up. As hot as pence and posey hasnt had a good series but we know his credentials. It was right there. But youre dealing with one of the best. Lets go to our sports director mark ibanez who had to witness this in person. Not a good night tonight. It was a different kind of vibe. Mark alluded to it earlier. The crowd was tame and you saw the highlights. Tim hudsons first pitch of the game got a double. That was like that immediately deflated the crowd. They werent as loud as they have been at at t. You do have to really credit kansas city. Their defense was superb tonight. Cain in particular in right field. Buster posey had a hit taken away from him. Buster posey not really driving the ball. A lot of fans only planing that posey needs to come through with extra base hits. And then another nice play by cain in right field stymied any chance that the giants had of getting something going. Again, on the right side of the defense, omar wound up making a nice play at 2nd base. The giants not getting anything really going. Morse with the only extra base hit. It was the 6th inning that did in the giants like in game 2. Not as big of an inning for the royals and then the giants retaliate with the run in the bottom of the 6th. You cant do much with four hits and the crowd was never able to get it going other than that 6th inning. So the air put out. But what the real bummer, i heard a couple of fans as i was making my way against the grain trying to get down the field, the fans going up the aisles and i heard three or four fans say you know what the biggest bummer is no matter what, the giants now if they were to win this world series will not be doing it in front of the home crowd. But then again maybe that is san franciscos recipe. In 2010, they did it down in texas. 2012, they did it in detroit. So if theyre going to do it this year, it will be in kansas city. And in come from behind fashion, something that they have not faced in these first two world series conquests of theirs in 10 and 12. Thats it from the field. Fonzi is in the clubhouse. Thats it for now coming back at you in a few minutes. Mark, before you go, let me ask you a quick question. During the pregame show i remember you said you thought this game, game 3, was pivotal and whoever won this game in all likelihood would go on to win the world series. Obviously thats not good news for the giants. Do you still feel that way. I was just kidding about that. I dont even remember saying that. But, you know, pregame shows, you say what you can to get through it. No. If you look at statistically down through the years, it is one of those hard cool facts. The team when its won one, the team that wins game 3 usually goes on to win the world series. But the giants obviously hoping to prove that wrong and certainly bigger deficits have been handled in the world series. But, yeah, its not a good night for the giants. To put it bluntly. They needed this game against jeremy guthrie, the stanford man and the kansas city. Not to be. Always tomorrow, at least for now. Back to you. Lets go back to the podium to listen to the winning side, the manager ned yost. It looks like we will work on getting his audio. Right now like tonight i felt i had enough to get us through the 7th inning to get us away with a clean 8th. Ned, you said that calvin came in and said something that he was mentally bet tore put him back out there in the 7th. Can you expand on that. I didnt say he felt mentally better. He felt he made the adjustments in the mechanics that enabled him to go back out and throw strikes. So, you know, he was just when he first came in, his command was kind of all over the place. But then he settled down. And i talked to sal and he said i feel great. I said okay you can give us a good inning . And he said yeah i made the adjustments that i need to make. Jason. Ned, im sure that when you brought calvin in, you knew he had a chance to hit in the next inning. What was your thinking of not double switching and b to answer the first part of that, i wasnt going to double switch with moose. Im not doing that and im not doing that with haas. Two, you know, really my mind set was to bring calvin in and go to finnegan in the 7th inning. But calvin got the 1, 2, 3. Hes the guy that we have used multiple innings before. Our guys had multiple success with it. I thought we will use him in the 7th inning. We will just let him hit. We got the first two guys out. And actually i was actually hoping that dice would get an out but he got through and got a hit. The manager talking about the win tonight over the giants. They lead the series 21. Ned yost grew up in the area. A huge giants fan. Lets go to john who is outside of the plaza. What is the feeling like out there. We moved over and were at king and second where you can see behind me the masses are filing out. This guy obviously wants to get on tv. The masses are filing out. By and large, its a pretty quiet crowd, aside from the guys right behind me who are yelling a bit. I want to point out that we have very positive fans. These three ladies right here, they are all from Henry Ford Elementary School and in redwood city. Just over here is a at that teacher of special ed. She deals with a lot of adversity in the classroom. Jessica, tell me what would you tell the giants how to bounce back from this adversity. All you can do is focus on the positive. Its an even year. We have that in our favor. Two more games at home. We just have to focus on the positive. Explain your sign here. It says dont panik, the odds are in our favor. Its a play on a quote from the hunger games. The evens are in our favor. The reference is fantastic. Angelica, its your birthday on sunday. What are you hoping for. Im hoping for a win on sunday and a world series win after that. Shawn a how do you feel Going Forward at this point. I feel positive. Like my daughter said, focus on the positive. Evens are in our favor. All right. So there are a lot of people out here, kind of long faces now leaving the stadium. Overall you have people positive Going Forward. Two more games here at home. Theres a lot of baseball still in play before anything happens. Live in san francisco, we will go back to you. Thanks. I have to say thank you, john. I have to say it was so quiet when we went to john. And when people figured out hes on live tv. It never fails. We heard the shouting and yelling but the message from the fans, stay positive. Two more games here at home. Its not all over, people. Two games to one. They have the next two games at at t park. If they did win unfortunately we were sure hoping it would be here at home. A win here at home. But, hey, a win is a win. If we win in kansas city, thats cool. Ill take it. Our world series post game coverage is just getting started. Stay with us. Well be right back. Streetline has looked at the problem of parking, which has not been looked at for the last 30, 40 years. We wanted to rethink that whole industry, so we go and put out these sensors in each parking spot and then theres a mesh network that takes this information, sends it over the internet so you can go find exactly where those open parking spots are. The collaboration with citi was important for providing us the necessary financing; allow this small start up to go provide a service to municipalities. Citi has been an incredible source of advice, how to engage with municipalities, how to structure deals, and as we think about internationally citi is there every step of the way. So the end result is you reduce congestion, you reduce pollution and you provide a service to merchants, and that certainly is huge. Tim sweating through it. We got some of the giants biggest fans in the crowd tonight. Tim hudsons wife looking on and chewing that towel while her husband was on the mound. She looks away and half closes the eyes much its tough when its your true love out and r. There and theres a lot on the line. We had such high hopes going in before the game. It was a gorgeous day. Sun was shining and wind was blowing and now were licking our wounds. Tim hudson, his family always comes to the game. He has a couple of kids. Every time that i go into the batters box and go in to hit, i look up and see my family and i wave to them. He says that makes me feel so good. Its such a bummer that it didnt go for them tonight. A huge bummer. Again, we talked about it and im sure the fans know it by now, 39 years old. First world series game. All of the great years with the as. He was good tonight. A bit of a hiccup early. At one point he came back and retired ten straight and he was cruising through the middle innings until he was retired in the 6th to give hudson a chance to win. And i know that the manager was awfully appreciative of the start of his veteran. I thought he threw the ball well, very well. You know, the first pitch, it got away from him. He got ambushed there. But, you know, i thought he had great stuff and was keeping the ball down. And Good Movement on his pitches. I thought he did a real nice job. And he gave us what we were hoping. And a chance to win. And thats all you can ask for from your starters. You look at their pitching and they did a great job. They shut us down. We couldnt do much off of guthrie. He pitched great and their bullpen did a great job. As far as huddy, i thought he got better and better throughout the game. Give your team a chance. The bullpen was terrific. We will talk about that later. Both bullpens. Everybody talks about the royals. The giants bullpen was great tonight too. We have Ryan Vogelson on the mound tomorrow. Do you bring bumgarner in . No, you cant do that. You have to give him an adequate amount of rest. Vogelsong has been a fine pitcher. But you know what you cant change up, you cant make a panic move like that. There is absolutely no chance that Madison Bumgarner would be brought in this quickly in a game 4 situation. So i can assure you that wont happen. And, you know, tim hudson really pitched a solid game. If the giants had it together offensively which is hard to say as well as guthrie was pitching. Again, its the 6th inning. And this kid escobar, the short stop for the royals who got it going, he got himself an rbi single. And, you know, scored the run. And then it was alex gordon, the gold glove left fielder this time going extra bases and the royals were able to put up a 2 spot in that 6th inning to give them a 30 lead. Hosmer playing sensational defense at 1st base. He comes through with a single. In comes gordon and then its a 30 lead. At that point, the crowd was absolutely silent and the giants had a 30 deficit. At that point, they had had only two hits off of guthrie. As we know now, in the bottom of the 6th, the giants made it a good ball game, managing to put up a couple of runs and then had three innings to try to get even. Right now it will be Ryan Vogelsong throwing tomorrow night as joe fonzi just came in on a tractor that he brought in from kansas city. Joe, you just got out of the clubhouse. That was nice timing on your part. I grew up in the country. Give me the mood of the giants clubhouse and lose the gum. Tell me, you know, down and out or they have been there before and can handle it. Not at all. We saw before they
