>> they think what happened is its tail fin might have got caught up with a big oceanic vessel and it drifted from the antaric. it met up wh thought i hooked something strong and couldn't get it unhokds. he asked two other boats to tow him back to shore. when they got to shallow waters they saw the whale. >> they believe the whale was dead and drifted. >> the whale was still alive. once it got to shore it passed away. >> oh. >> that is just huge. >> they think this thing is 45 to 46 feet long and weighs 24,000 pounds. it may be a rare blue whale. they've taken dna samples to verify. at this point they're calling it a say whale. >> heartbreaking image to see. to think of this massive regal creature on the shore with all these people crowding around it as if it's a circus show. >> but the people didn't kill the whale and may be the one opportunity for them to see an animal this big up close and personal their entire lives. i can't fault them for going out there to see it. just a perfect story for this time of year. take a look at alls these gifts. who are they for?
