Good afternoon. Im tori campbell. Its a tense situation in oakland right now with protesters facing off with police officers. Protesters chained themselves together in front of Police Headquarters and have stood their ground for the past few hours. Brian flores has been monitoring the scene and joins us live. Reporter good afternoon to you. Weve been here since the demonstrations began shortly after 7 00 this morning and they continue going onto the afternoon. Were between 6th street and 7th street on broadway, right in front of oakland Police Headquarters. As you can see, a long line of police, also a long line of dreauchters remain. Ass we take as we take a look at, some blocked a busy intersection at oakland here. Hands up, dont shoot hands up, dont shoot reporter its been a message thats been chanted for weeks. Coast to coast. But instead of another night of protests this one happened in the morning. Enough is enough, we want our brothers and sisters to live. Reporter several hundred demonstrators converged in oakland right in front of Police Headquarters on backyardway between 6th and 70th. Some protesters chained themselves to the entrances of opd headquarters. One even climbed up a flagpole to display a banner that says, black lives matter. Its not okay. Black lives matert. My kids are obtaining protesters, mare offing in the street. They are raising their hands and making their kids talk about it. Reporter this man was charged with a misdemeanor. Eventually opd removed the demonstrators who blocked entrances. Organizers says this demonstration was specific to last four hours. Four hours because how long Michael Browns body was in the street. Reporter this morning, traffic had to be diverted. Westbound traffic on broadway once you got to 7th also had to be divert. Oakland police moved the group on the the group to the other side for people to convene. We have a lot of our Community Members who need Police Services and we want to make sure were able to provide those services. Reporter as we take it back out here live, there are a full demonstrators in between 7th and 8th between broadway. The rain is continuing to fall as we speak. But thats not stopping the spirit of the demonstrators. There is another demonstration planned for 5 00 p. M. Tonight around lake merritt. Several hundred people are expected to be there as well. Paul chambers will be there. Back to you. Thank you. The San Jose Police Department Says it is reviewing some controversial twitter posts by one of the officers. The posts were a reaction to the recent protest against the police kills against unarmed black men. Officer Phillip White tweeted if anyone feels they cant breathe or their lives matter, i will be at the movies tonight, off duty carrying my gun. Another tweet read, threaten me or my family and i will use my gun and right to kill you. The beets have been removed. The department is investigating the officers actions and will have more to say once the review is complete. Over the weekend, the father of Michael Brown was here in the bay area. Yesterday, he addressed a crowd at Third Baptist Church in san francisco. He flew to the bay area following saturdays march in washington, d. C. It was one of many demonstrations across the uent across the country following the death of his 18 yearold son in ferguson, missouri and eric garner in new york.
