And back to our breaking news, this plume of black smoke is urabouting in the burning in the Bayview District and we understand its burning near an auto district. Want to go back to our breaking news in San Francisco. Once again, live pictures of a large, tall plume of black smoke. This is now a threealarm fire that is burning at upton and mckinnon in San Francisco. Its an Industrial Area of San Francisco in the Bayview District and this fire has been burning for about 20 minutes or so. Were not sure exactly what is burning at this point but we do have a crew on the way and right now, we have ktvus Tara Moriarty on the phone with us right now. Tara, what can you tell us . Reporter well, im actually driving through the streets right now, sort of trying to get away from the fire. Its absolutely enormous. The billowing cloud of black smoke can be seen for miles. I actually spotted it on my way 101 southbound, and when i got a little close to the fire, i dont know if you have that video yet, i shot some video off my cell phone. But there were threes loud crackling noises. Theres something very combustible in the warehouse. This is sort of like an Industrial Area. Were near mckinnon. I cant get a cross because, again, im driving but there is a lot of people that are being told to leave the area, a lot of fire crews here on scene. They were actually pulling up after i arrived. So they keep sending more and more. I havent had a chance to talk with an official. A couple of police are cordoning off certain streets because they need to drag the hose lines, connect to the fire hydrants. So people are being told to stay out of the area. This one is coming in. Its really ripping. Its very black smoke that you can see. A lot of flames and it appears that they are attacking this fire from all ends, from all from all parts of the block here. But people in the neighborhood are a bit freaked out, i have to say because the popping noises that you can hear from the fire are so intense, it was quite scary. Everybody kind of going in all at once to take pictures off their cell phone cameras backed off once they heard the loud booms. That certainly is probably the best idea, to try to stay away. So im looking at the map here, tara, on my computer and were again looking at a live picture of this large black plume of smoke. It looks like this is between 101 and 280 but you say its a pretty Industrial Area. Im sure its visible from the freeway. Reporter yes, it is. I was driving home. Just got off my shift and im i had gotten off the freeway to check it out and as i pulled up actually, theres still fire crews arriving on scene, and a lot of people who live in the area and who work in this area are leaving right now. They are being told to get out. They dont know what was burning. But some firefighters did mention there was some sort of a taxicab Company Located where the fire is as well as some sort of academy, academy of sciences or Something Like that that they were mentioning, academy of arts, some sort of school. So i will try to get more information. I do have a Police Officer here on scene and hes telling me to leave right now. As you can imagine, its a very chaotic scene. I can see an ambulance and several Police Officers and they are really blocking off a lot of a lot of blocks are they are telling people to vecket and and to evacuate and get out of here. Its that dark, smack smoke, which suggests some sort of plastic or rubber, Something Like that, is burning. I cant smell it from where i am but i can definitely see it. All right. Well let you go to try to gather information for us, tara, and see what you can find out to find out where this is bumping. But black smoke would indicate its still actively bumping at this point and with a huge response, a lot of firefighters and Police Gathering on the scene to try to put this fire out. But tara saying this fire is really going. Its at least three alarms by this point. This is new video im just pausing so we can listen a little bit. You can hear some of that crackling noise that tara was telling us about. I believe this is video that tara sent to us just a short time ago. You can see how black the smoke is and just billowing up from the scene. It looks like a large fire. What was interesting, tara, she like a lot of people were running toward the fire to try to see whats going on. When a lot of people heard the crackling noise and it sounded like a possible explosion, a lot of people turned around and tried to run away from it and thats exactly what people are being advised to do, leave the area. A very large response. We saw some of the fire trucks pulling up there and arriving at the scene. Again, we understand this is at upton street and mckinnon avenue in the Bayview District of San Francisco. The google map says theres a national cab nearby, a traffic supply company, a metal a Metal Products company. So again, rather an Industrial Area, quite a few businesses that could potentially have some Dangerous Items if they were to go up in flames. So we are again gathering more information and this okay. This is from newschopper2 that is flying to the scene right now. This is stillaways a way but you can still this is still aways away but you can still see it. Not sure if rosemary can join us and tell us about the winds. The winds are generally light which from this point looks good because it looks like the winds or the smoke going straight up, not blowing over lower levels of the city or that area. But as you get up higher, you can see there may be a weakened version in place. Thats why it looks like 2,000 feet, 3,000 feet up. It looks like we see it flatten out and move. So the wind carrying it a little bit. But overall, it looks like a variable wind, a light wind which from this point looks actually like its a positive thing because we dont have that smoke blowing over the lower levels of where people are living, tori. All right. And we have a message into the bay area air quality district to find out what exactly this is gonna do for air quality in the bay area. But as rosemary said, light wind at this point. A threealarm fire burning in an Industrial Area in bayview. We have a reporter on the scene. We will have more information right after this. Well be back with the news at noon in just a moment. We want to to go back to our breaking news right no in San Francisco. A threealarm fire is burning. David stevenson has more. Reporter you can see the smoke billowing out from the site of an auto body shop in the Bayview District. It went from a twoalarm to a threealarm fire. That means there are more than 100 firefighters on the scene. There are a lot of industrial warehouses in the area. Some of them in the immediate area have been convicted but there are evacuated. We were driving 15 miles away and we could see the smoke billowing almost like a volcano, plumes of black smoke. The Fire Department has said this is being called a defensive fire, meaning rather than trying to put it out, its a dangerous situation, they are trying to to it from the outside. We heard presumably flammable material. You can see a firefighter perched high above the fire on a ladder. Were not seeing any flames. Again, all of this smoke pillowing out. There are people bim lowing out billowing out. There are people told to evacuate and take care. Again, a very active scene right now, tori. Well be going around trying to catch up with the Fire Department trying to see if theres been any injuries. Thus far we dont know of any. You can see them putting water on that from above, from a distance trying to put out this auto body shop fire at this hour. For now, reporting live, tori, well head back to you and try to gather more information. All right. Thank you. I was gonna ask about possible cause and injury. David is gonna try to work on that. Great shot from newschopper2. You get a sense of
