We are on storm watch as the bay area braces for a much needed rainstorm. In some areas the umbrellas are already out and residents are filling up the bags to prevent sandbags to prevent flooding. Drop anywhere from an inch to nearly a foot of rain and we are tracking the storm. But first, we have breaking news out of San Francisco where an industrial accident has killed at least one person. Ktvus David Stephenson joins us live and david what happened . Reporter well, good afternoon tori. It happened just past the overpass. You can see behind me over there, this is being called an industrial accident. We were told earlier one person dead and another with severe injuries at a Granite Company just again beyond that overpass where there were fire trucks on the scene up to about 15 minutes ago. This is the site of a Company Called cgi granite. Its listed as a granite wholesaler. The Fire Department tells me they got the call about 10 30 this morning and when they responded they found shattered chunks of granite and at least two severely injured workers. Seems we have an industrial accident that they were unloading some granite off the the trucks. And it looked like it slipped and several people were crushed underneath the granite. Reporter and the latest update were hearing from the Fire Department is that two people were indeed killed. One of them had been transported to the hospital with severe injuries. It appears he or she may have passed away. Traffic along one lane of courtland avenue was shut down in one lane for a couple of hours as the Fire Department worked the scene. Cal osha is also investigating and we reached out to the owners of the company but they declined to speak to us a than about this accident. This afternoon about this accident. The Athletic Department says ted agu was taking part in conditioning drills at the time. He was rushed to the hospital. Agu was a 21yearold defensive lineman from bakersfield headed for his senior season this fall. Head football coach sonny dikes issued a statement saying quote now to storm watch. Least take a look and you can see from one end of the bay area to the other we are seeing some of that light rain started moving in during the Early Morning hours and i expect its going to actually become a little bit more widespread and own heavier into the afternoon. Taking a look at some of the moderate raintight, you can see coming up off the rain at this time, you can see coming up off the coast inbetween areas near halfmoon bay and farther south, if i do a little shift here we have moderate rain falling over palo alto area. This tip of cell is capable of producing anywhere it looks hike. 3 of an inch to a half inch per hour, now this storm is going to continue to move through. The cells will continue to move through and if not just sitting stationary. So thats whats going on over the bay area and take a look. Weve got some snow in the mountains here down to about the 4500 feet. Inbetween areas like baxter and immigrant gap. This is going to be rising over the course of the weekend because the storm thats moving in is a relatively warm storm carrying a lot of moisture. By the end of the weekend the possibility of several inches of rain. With that said, you definitely can count on those dangerous roadways when youre traveling. The possibility of even some mudslides near the fire burn areas and urban and small creek flooding is definitely a possibility with clogged drains, you are going to find some flooding near the parks. That to be aware of for the weekend. Coming up a look at how much rain is expected for the area by sunday. Coming up. Now people in the north bay are getting ready for the rain. They are expecting the brunt of the rain this weekend. And because its been dry for so long, that means many people here are getting ready. Now after a little break this morning it began raining here at san rafael a little bit after 8 00 this morning and across the bay area as well. According to the National Weather service, they are predicting 8 to cinches of rain in the 10 inches of rain in the coastal mountain ranges of the north bay and that means a lot of rain in a short period of time basically. The National Weather service also saying standing water is likely and storm drains could be clogged as well. For the most part people here say the rain is a welcome sight but they are also concerned as well. I want to protect my garage and my basement. My basement floods terribly. So and im getting a new sump pump and im afraid it might not work. And getting 12 inches of water in your basement is not fun. I think the rain is definitely a welcome sight. Especially given the situation in tahoe its nice to actually get some snow. And yes, so im flood to see it glad to see it. Reporter now the rain also means Good Business for some local Hardware Stores that were ready for the rain. Actually back in december. We stopped by jacksons Hardware Store in san rafael. On a typical rainy scene they would sell out of items but theyre ready and already seeing a boost in rain gear sales. Theyre buying rain suits and hats and weve had a few people even who are heading up to tahoe who are you know picking up warm weather gear. And clothing and all. But we do expect to sell more tarps and you know plastic and other you know rain related things as it keeps on coming down. We have spoken to a lot of people who are taking more precautions especially on their automobiles this morning. We mentioned this on mornings and mornings on 2, we saw a lot of accidents yesterday. We spoke to one person who says that shes getting her tires changed because she saw way too many accidents out there. Keep it easy on the roads this weekend. Its going to be a soggy one out there. Says the first big rain of the season caused a leak at its civic center station in San Francisco. A spokeswoman says the drain above the station on muni property tends to get clogged during the first heavy rain and the overflow drips into the station. Now the leak is not affecting service but you can see b. A. R. T. Has the slippery area coned off. Its light, but its enough to get these bags wet. Sandbags wet. You can see people are here picking up sandbags, they are great for flock blocking the flow of water. Now all morning people have been coming to the Corporation Yard on center road in san jose to pick up sandbags in preparation for the storm. Theres a limit to 20 per vehicle and theyre available at various pickup stations throughout the county. The Santa Clara ValleyWater District is providing them free to anyone whos concerned about flooding. While the peninsula are expected to get arent expected to get hit as hard as the Santa Cruz Mountains, some want to be sure they protect their homes. The water comes under the door. And comes in and hits hits the floor and the sub flooring. And you know, its a mess. And to prevent further any damage im going to suck up that water outside. Reporter at Lakewood Elementary School in sunnyvale, the Maintenance Manager for the district picked up bags earlier and lined the campus with them. The grading on the cement walkways has been known to cause flooding in classrooms and School Officials wanted to be sure the rain didnt cause a mess for staff and students. The presence pal described what it looks like in the past. Really big puddles. Some of the teachers called that lake lakewood over there. And keeping kids from getting out of it but also just it just gets in the way of moving from classroom to classroom. And im here at a station where they are the bags are already prefilled and these things, these weigh 70 pounds here. So theyre pretty heavy. Reporter well, as marvelous as this technology is, unfortunately it draws criminals like bees to honey is the same situation. As marvelous as it is, if San Franciscos state senator mark leno has his way, by the end of this year, smart phone makers will be required to have kill switch degree knowledges in their phone. He Citizen Technology in their phones. He says such technology would render the phones unusable for anything but a paperweight. Cell phone and tablet thefts account for up to 40 of all the crimes in the nation. More than twothirds of the crime in San Francisco and oakland and much of it involving violence. But say all the assembled officials, cell phone carriers the people that i pay your bill to have opposed such technology saying it would make problems like hacking a problem not an issue in australia. This is one of the few areas in the criminal Justice System where the technological solution can make a tremendous difference. Theres no argument other than profit. I would encourage any one of the carriers to step forward to increase their own market share. To say we can do this. The snowy weather is expected to last through the weekend bringing as much as 4 feet of snow above 7,000 feet. And here in the bay area, there could be enough rain falling to trigger mudslides on the side of mount diablo that burned last summer. Most was on state parkland on the eastern slope of the mountain. Current rainfall rates are the heaviest since september and that was when flames burned vegetation on more than 3100 acres. And we are gearing up for wet brie zeh weather for the breezy weather for the entire weekend. Back to Storm Tracker 2 and you can see the light rain is falling. It moved in earlier this morning and some areas already reporting a few onehundredths,. 13 in areas like santa rosa. Almost imparter of afternoon inch reported in areas right around sonoma county. Weve got some new moderate cells that just east of milpitas just in the last ten minutes and shifted into the hills. Light to moderate rain expected for today i think it will be a little bit heavier into the evening drive. So it could be a bit messy. Ive turned off the rain and showing you just the clouds here. The water vapor. We keep talking about this relatively warm storm bringing in a lot of moisture. Im going to get back about as far as i can. Far beyond hawaii there you can see that train of moisture. So again, coming all the way from the tropics happens now and again and when it does, that moist air moving through the area going to bring us day after day after day of rain. All the way through sunday. And by the end of sunday, this is what we are expecting some of these storm totals the look like with the north to look like with the north bay receiving most of the rain. 7 inches and above. Anywhere from 8 to 10 inches for the coastal hills and over parts of the central bay anywhere from 2 to 4 inches. And into the south bay perhaps 2 to 3 inches expected there. So quite a bit of rain with little letup. Earlier in the newscast we were talking about the possibility of flooding. So now you can obviously see why theres definitely a possibility there. If we pick it up for you this morning where were dealing with or aft
