He said the plan trip to the sierra was meant to show his kids to abandoned mining towns with enough water, food and supplies for a week they ventured out and were nearly at their destination when they came across a tree with no way around it. Thats when nick says he made the mistake of finding an alternative route instead of turning back. After a few dead ends, they reached soft dirt it caused thered truck to slide down an embankment and get scott stuck. In hindsight he says he shouldve hung her down hunkered down instead of going. He wanted to get the message out that he was safe. And he wasnt able to do that. That was what was worrying him the most.
