[ indiscernible ] >> they got enamored with the noise. >> reporter: rosy the riveter "one woman, she was every -- wasn't one woman, she was every woman who worked for the war effort. >> i worked on the p38. the bomber planes. >> reporter: they traded girlhood dreams -- >> a nurse. i never did get to be a nurse. >> reporter: to work in a man's world. >> i didn't want to sit in an office. [ indiscernible ] >> we were young. and adventures. >> reporter: every year they meet to share stories. >> what memory comes back? >> it is hard to remember back then. >> reporter: they are living history. most in their 90s now. >> i didn't know what a welder was. >> reporter: 70 years ago they built america's war planes and ships. >> we wanted to get the ships built so we could give our boys what they needed to fight with. >> it was our mission to get these troops home. >> the women hadn't of stepped in and worked we probably would have lost the war. >> reporter: they were tip of the spear for the equal rights and women's equality movements. >> it changed the way the women lived and worked. who would have thought a woman was a welder. >> we had equal pay for equal work 70 years ago. we don't have it today yet. >> reporter: so listen. >> i didn't think we would be this popular 70 years later. [ laughter ] >> history has something to say about our future. a lot of these women didn't just stop working after the war. they kept woman. one woman, 95-years-old, she just got layed off from boeing. she wanted to make it to 50 years. if you want to take a look and get a sense of their stories this museum is open 7 days a week. >> great to see them get the credit they deserve. noelle calling for 2200 officers. a report shows staffing levels are less than 9 other cities. police chief says he is looking to put more officers on the streets. >> there is nowhere in san francisco along any commercial corridor where they don't want to see more officers. >> if we are talking about reducing crime we need to look at a whole package of initiatives. not only more police. >> opponents are worried about the cost of adding more officers. one officer cost $175,000 a year in salary and benefits. a report says from 2004-2014 police staffing dropped by 3% while san francisco's population rose 12%. an american woman's attempt to row from japan to san francisco come to an end because of bad weather. she was rescued off the japanese coast yesterday after sending out a distress signal. a bomb scare that shut down market street in san francisco. 9:30 p.m. last night police responded to a report of a suspicious car on stevensen street. officers approached the vehicle and saw something suspicious inside and called the bomb squad. authorities shut down stevenson with fifth street. the bomb squad determined there was nothing hazardous and gave the all clear. wildfire continues to spread in hot, dry conditions but firefighters are making progress. the fire was sparked by lightning in the national forest. as of this morning the fire burned 1500 acres and 20% contained. no structures have been damaged. the sheriff's office has issued mandatory evacuation orders for residents. the drought conditions are making their job difficult. temperatures and yard work sparked several fires in sacramento yesterday. this fire was started by a weed eater used by someone at a vacant home where the weeds are knee high. the fire captain says they responded to 9 fires between noon and 5:00 p.m. yesterday. this was one of two that was started by mowing. >> as the flames came towards us we aimed at the flames. investigators responded to reports of a boat on the rocks in the mill creek picnic area. the bolt contained 100 bails of marijuana. deputies estimate the street value to be $18 million. with help from
