suspect. friends say he has been very apologetic about shooting and injuring two police officers. new developments in ferguson, missouri. this is 20-year-old jeffrey williams, the man investigators say fired the shots early thursday morning that hit one st. louis area police officer in the shoulder and another in the face. >> he is now charged with two counts of assault in the first degree for the pro police officers that were shot. >> reporter: the shooting happened outside of the ferguson police department during a protest hours after ferguson's police chief resigned after a scathing report from the justice department in the wake of the michael brown shooting last august. the suspect as friend visited him in jail and said he was very apologetic about what happened. >> he wasn't trying to create disruption in the community. it was not his aim. it was not his purpose, not his focus. >> reporter: williams reportedly admitted to the shooting, but said he had an argument with others in the crowd and was not aiming his weapon at police. i was very disappointed and i know he is disappointed and regrets his decision. >> reporter: police found a .45 caliber handgun at williams' home. information from the public helped to lead to the arrest. >> i can't stress how important it was in every case, but certainly in this case, it has been invaluable. >> reporter: turmoil in ferguson is spilling over to local businesses, some of which claim revenue is down 80%. >> i have customers call me every day "are you guys open? is it safe to come here?" >> attorney general eric holder released a statement saying, in part -- >> reporter: that suspect, williams is being held on $300 thousand won. any word on how the officers were doing, now? >> they were both hop liesed. they are both out of the hospital tonight and expected to make full recoveries. >> thank you, noelle >> in walnut creek, a bus was carrying 40 teens from arizona to a sign language event. they were southbound 680 after 9:30 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus and pulled to the side of the freeway. the sheriff's department said the students were not seriously hurt. >> obviously, there was a lot of smoke. many of the kids, teen-age kids from arizona here on a field trip. >> we are told the teens were evaluated in the emergency room and released. >> an 11-year-old girl recovering after she was hit by a suspected drunk driver in south san francisco. police say she was hit as she crossed the street with her younger brother. she was taken to san francisco general hospital with nonlife- threatening injuries police say the driver, 26-year-old alberto gomez failed a sobriety test and was booked into jail on a felony dui charge. >> >> alameda authorities released the name killed in a freeway accident. 52-year-old hayward al bright died in the chained reaction which involved other vehicles and left six other people injured. the highway patrol said the accident was triggered by a pickup truck driver that did not slow down quickly enough to avoid hitting slower traffics in the lanes ahead. >> >> families of hundreds of families being cared for met this weekend in an effort to try to keep the sonoma facilities open. they estimate each of the more than 400 residents cost about $500 thousand a year, each to treat. the santa rosa -- paper reports 200 relatives were met by state lawyer makers to try to determine how to keep the facility open. a family member discovered the body of a 37-year-old on monday inside of her apartment near san pablo avenue. she was a dental student at ucfs. investigators say she was shot once in the head and there were no signs of forced entry into her apartment. personal items belonging to her were found in a spots around 90 degrees today, a completely different story. most areas coming down a good 10-15 degrees from yesterday's readings, look at that san francisco temperature, down 18 degrees from yesterday's 84 degrees so, a big dropoff, especially in the san francisco with the 66 showing up. here's a live camera looking out towards san francisco, still some haze out there, a few high clouds,
