As we get into the next few hours, temperatures will begin to climb in the upper 50s as it begins at 8 00 and then by 9 00 fair skies, 63 degrees as they are running to the west. Then as they get satellite in and around when they get in and around the beach, low 60s. We begin in san jose where the search for two armed suspects went into the night and Early Morning hours after a Police Pursuit last night. This started near center road before 6 00 p. M. Police say they tried to make a traffic stop on a car reported stolen. The driver refused to pull over and Police Chased the car to a neighborhood near blossom hill road and lee avenue. The two suspects got out and ran away on foot. A viewer, jake slaton, shared this video of the s. W. A. T. Team in the area. Police say the two men are wanted for an earlier robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The only description is that the men are white or latino. The search did continue through the Early Morning hours. We have made repeated calls to the San Jose Police department for more information and when we get it, we bring it to you. New this morning, north coronado conducted another missile test. The white house is confirming that north coronado launched a Medium Range Missile that could have the capacity to reach alaska or hawaii. U. S. Pacific command is confirming that it landed in the sea of japan. Its the latest weapons test for the north as it ramps up the Nuclear Weapons program. The launch is a week after a longer range missile was successfully testified as well. President trump is spending the second day in saudi arabia. He is expected to give a major speech to 50 muslim and arab leaders against terrorism. According to excerpts of the speech released by the white house, he is expected to say that fighting terrorism is not a battle between different faiths or different civilly cations but a battle between good and evil. They are not saying if is related to anyone at the home. U. S. Coast guard will resume the search for a missing man in the delta in the next couple of minutes. He was on a boat near the city of pittsburg when a young fellow went into the water. The man went in to rescue the child. The child was pulled from the water but the man was not located. We will walk over because we have volunteers over here. We can see the tortillas fly, another race tradition if you are not familiar with it this is a really exciting race. What can people expect to see in terms of costumes and stuff like that every year i am amazed by the type of costumes. You see people spending weeks if not months getting ready. I have seen interesting ones this morning. We talked this morning before we started, the race, the tone of the race shifted a little bit. It used to be a Rolling Party. Now its a serious race. You made sure that everybody has a safe secure time. We want this to be an event that everyone can come out to from the children up to the Old School Vets of the race, right . We want to make sure that they are doing it responsibly. We have a number of safety things in place but being safe on race day. Reporter sounds good. The runners will have a tough time on the hay street hill. Allie rasmus is along the racetrack. I said this is one of the bay area signature events. You covered it before, i covered it before. Its a blast. Reporter yes, you know where the action is for now. Later on this monk as the runners get going, this is where we expect to see the elaborate costumes. This is the bottom of the hay street hill. By the time runners get to this point and down the hill, they are about halfway through the 7 1 2 mile run. Now, this is one of the places where the not so serious runners you mentioned the elite runners, but the majority of the people taking part are in it for the fun of it, not a timed competitive event. This is one of the intersections, one of the places where people slow down so spectators can take in the elaborate costumes. Years ago this was one of the neighborhood spots where a lot of residents complained about trash and public urination. Now there are more than 1,000 portable toilets on the route and changes over the past few years to the rules to bay to breakers improved things for the people around here. Some of the changes included a ban on floats. Years ago people would built elaborate floats. Some had kegs on wheels. That is not allowed any more and hasnt been for several years. Alcohol technically isnt allowed but people find ways to get around that rule. But they also fence off the park. Its under renovation so its closed off anyway. Residents say that is a huge help in keeping the crowds under control. Residents say its still a roving frat party but bay to breakers has improved for the people who live on the route. Before there was trash, drunks, glass everywhere. The cleanup is amazing. After the runners, everything gets cleaned up. I like it its cleaned up a lot quicker. I think that they have made improvements in the organization. Reporter as early as two hours ago Race Organizers set up barricades and signs letting people know where the portable toilets were. Alaska airlines is a sponsor of the race, 106 bay to breakers. Lets show you the map of the race course. Its called bay to breakers because it goes from the bayside of San Francisco to the great highway and ocean beach, the breakers, so to speak. That is the race route. About 12 kilometers, 7 1 2 miles. They are expecting about 40,000 runners that registered for it 150 spectators are expected to line the race route. No one is here yet because it doesnt start until 8 00. After that it takes about half an hour for the costumed runners. The elite runners get over in a matter of minutes. The costumes about 8 30. You will have a lot of company. My end of the story gets busier as the morning goes on its usually a party out here. They dont tend to shy away from the camera either. Well, today is the 106th bay to breakers in San Francisco which has been referred to as a party. I think you characterized it well. Its like a 7mile Rolling Party with 40,000 of your best friends. We are at the starting line for the bay to breakers. Take a look. If you have ever seen it, you know who this is. This is the pink gorilla. I was going to try to get an interview but the pink gorilla is a man of few words. Lets show you the crowd. The tortillas flying up in the air, part of the prerace ritual that folks have out here. They bring the tortillas to carb up before the race but after a while it turns into throwing them up in the air and having a blast. You can see the costumes with wonderful looks that people are sporting. It seems like everybody has their own reason for wanting to run. I want to have fun and enjoy the crowd and the party and everything. Is this your first time . Yes, running this way, yes. It reminds me of salmon running upstream. With the slow pack of people you cant run. What is your strategy for standing out. For standing out . No strategy. Just being here. Reporter just to give you a sense, these are the elite runners. They are running the five minute or six minute miles. They will be really fast. Dont think because they are elite runners they cant have fun, too. We have a canadian flag and magnum p. I. Is here. Are you ready for the run . The big thing is the hayes street hill. Ali, you covered this in the past and i have. Thats where the race gets tough. Things are getting more active than a half hour ago. The race doesnt start until 8 00. This is the midway point. Its not busy yet. We see the emts that set up here getting ready for the crowds. Behind them are some of the more than a thousand porto potties that have lined the race route and taking a look over here, this is alamo square park. Workers are finishing up renovations to the park. While the renovations are done, the park will be fenced off during the race today and residents that live around here say that is a good thing because as long as this area is fenced off, people it prevents people from spectators and runners from congregating here and drinking and public urination. That is not an he issue an issue as long as the fence is up. By 9 00, 9 30, this intersection is where we should start seeing some of the festive costumed runners making their way here. Years ago this was a quote unquote trouble spot where neighbors and residents complained about trash and public drunkenness. Now with the public toilets on the route and changes, a lot of residents say things have improved the past couple of years. Some say bay to breakers is still an inconvenience for people that live on the route because of the traffic and crowd issues but they say its not nearly as crazy as it used to be. When they started fencing off the park, it got a little bit less obnoxious. They got better cleaning it up quicker. Before there was trash, drunks, glass everywhere. Now after the runners, everything gets cleaned up. I like it reporter now, earlier this morning, Race Organizers set up barricades and signs letting people on the route know where the rest rooms were. We have seen some setting up recycling bins, things here. You see some spectators making their way and walking down here. We have seen a couple of people in costume as well Walking Around this area. In other news back home, a toddler was reunited with his mother after an amber alert was issued for him. Makai was reported bying by his mother thursday afternoon. Authorities say his father, jason lam failed to return the boy at the time they agreed to. He was found with his dad in l. A. Friday after a statewide amber alert was issued. A San Francisco District Attorney and investigator flew there to pick up the boy. Lam was then taken into custody. We are happy. For us, any time we have a child that comes back to the lowest arms of his mother loving arms of his mother, we are ecstatic. The hard work, this is what its about. Chp was concerned that lam may have been suicidal. He had joint custody of the young boy but the mother filed for soul custody after he failed to return the boy home. The chp is investigating a deadly crash on highway 101 in palo alto about  8 40 last night. The chp says the crash involved a motorcycle and a sedan. They havent released any other details. They closed three lanes of traffic during the investigation and posted these photos on twitter telling people to avoid the area. All lanes of traffic reopened just before 1 00 this morning. An airline that collided with a supply truck at lax causing the truck to flip on its side. Eight employees inside the truck were hurt but the injuries are not life threatening. The jet just arrived at the airport and was taxiing when it clipped the truck. None of the passengers on the flight were hurt. The cause is under investigation. A final curtain call for the socalled greatest show on earth. Ringling brothers and barnum and bailey circus is closing down after nearly 150 years. Its closing shop this weekend with a final performance in the suburbs of new york city. I went to friends of the almeda Animal Shelter to find out how it works. It starts as a getting to know you session. Truth be told, its allowed one. We have seen it it is a loud one. The dogs are up and barking. The dogs have a lot to say. So do the girls who have come to visit them. I look for the ones that i think are really cute. They are from girls inc of the island city. They are taking part in the nonprofits newest Literacy Program. Its called gruff. Girls reading to understanding friends. Its a benefit for everyone involved. Each girl picks a dog, sits down, then pulls out a book and begins to read. I read to the animals that are in the shelter. It makes them feel better. I read to a dog named gucci, a brown and white pit pull. We were all the happier for it reporter the program is based on a concept tried in other parts of the country. Reading can be intimidating but the more children do it, the easier it gets. Every monday i am excited to read to the dogs. Im not just reading because my teacher told me to read. Im reading because i think it makes the dogs feel happy and it makes me feel happy. For us, its really a matter of getting girls comfortable reading out loud. Girls in the literacy lost different components that we focused on we can have the girls practice reading out loud to feel comfortable practicing in front of a nonjudgmental audience. The best nonjudgmental audience we have are the dogs and some of the girls read to cats and rabbits. They read with the headphones on sometimes if they want to block out the noise or their partners reading next to them. Its an opportunity for them to practice reading to animals. Reporter the shelter says its a win for them since the Program Began in january. We took care of over 2,000 animals every year that come through the doors. Our shelter is about 40 years old. It can be stressful for animals. Its important to bring the Community Members in and make the animals feel safe and comfortable and warm. This is a Brilliant Program that achieves that reporter for safety reasons, the girls dont have direct contact with the animals. Organizers say its easy to see the impact of interaction. Thats powerful. What that tells us is that the dogs, first of all, will be good with kids, thats important and they want the human interaction. Its a real winwin program. Reporter why testing is done to monitor the reading progress of the girls, success can be done in many ways. Friends were made and in one case even a home was found. There are 37 road closures. Can you imagine what hits eye like to drive through there. Look at the corral of people waiting to go through. The tortillas are still throwing. We like the Cool Temperatures for them and especially as they get further into the race, how will it be. It will be nice. As we know, temperatures in San Francisco, the concrete, it will warm up fast. But as they make their way toward ocean beach, we got fog out there this morning. Low cloud cover. Could you believe the start that we saw live just a moment ago, though runners off and running setting a pace. I talked to some of the elite runners, some of those folks making their way to bay to breakers. They should be out there in about 35 minutes, incredibly crossing the city in 35 minutes time. I talked to one of them, she said that they will hit the end of the race and loop around, come back and run with the crowd because thats what the bay to breakers is known for, all the fun. So, they want to take part in the fun, too. Fun for them to run. We are about five seconds away from the next heat started. They said they were ten seconds out. 3, 2, 1. Reporter they are off and running. These may not be the elite of the elite but they are fast runners. Make no mistake. They know how to have fun. If you look in the crowd, im sure you will see lots of runners who are, of course, in costume. A slice of pizza, zebra. Crazy hats. That is what the bay to breakers is all about, making sure that people have a great time. We talked to organizers. They want to make sure that people have a Family Friendly time. They are cracking down on alcohol. There is usually a nudity ban and they try to keep that under control as well. So, you can see the bay to breakers is off to, yet, another great start. People off and running tegg me that if this is their first time running they are looking forward to hitting San Franciscos signature race. So, bay to breakers, 202017 off to a great 1r7 off to a great 2017 off to a great start. We will wrap up here then go to the end of the race. Part of the big activity is going to be the hayes street hill. Ali, we have been talking about it all morning. You probably dont see runners your way. If you talk long enough, im sure you will get to see the first elite runners making their way to you. Reporter the competitive runners move quickly. I like to say about bay to breakers, i covered it many years, its the mullet of races. Business in front, competitive racers then the party in the back with all the costumed runners making their way across the 12kilometer course. We dont see any runners yet, not even the faces elite one nears. We see more spectators than were out here a half hour ago. You see folks with their getting ready. This table, these are this is a family that set up a lemonade and bake sale stand. Some of the other runners that we were talking about were the people in the neighborhood congregating in their neighborhood to watch the people go by. San Francisco Police are on motor bikes. This is hayes and scott. This is near alamo square park and neighborhood. This is the place where a lot of the not so serious runners the costume runners slow down so spectators can appreciate the elaborate costumes. This is one of the spots where neighbors and residents complained about trash and public urination. There are a lot of changes to the race. There is more than a thousand portable toilets on the route. There are people that findways to drink and there is some nudity even though its technically not allowed but event organizers say they have taken steps to make it more of a Family Friendly event. They cut the entrance fee in half in an effort to attract more families. There is more signs that families are coming to watch the race. I met a father who we showed you a short time ago setting up for the bake sale at the corner of the intersection. It was a collective idea. All these people. Lets do a Lemonade Stand. A lot of hot runners and hungry runners. People ask do you have a square, do you take a credit card. We are not that sophisticated. Is this a sign that the race is more Family Friendly . I think it has cleaned up a lot. Its crazy. Its San Francisco. Its fun. But its we feel totally comfortable having the kids out here. I hope we sell a lot of cookies. Last year it was a big hit. It was fun. The dad says the only rule they have is no selling to nude runners. He said nothing against nudist but the kids are 6, 9 and 12 so they dont do that here is a look at the race course. Its called bay to breakers. If you are not familiar with it, it goes from the bay, howard and main, bayside of San Francisco out to the great highway, ocean beach, aka the breakers. This is 106 years they have been doing this the longest consecutively run race in the country. Its not just about the runners but the atmosphere, the spectators and a lot of people are starting to line up along the course and out with their cameras and phones ready, maybe a drink in hand to enjoy the sights. As soon as the runners come down the hayes street hill the party gets started. I dont know how you count them but there is a ton of people out there. Christien kafton saw the elite runners at the starting gun about 35 minutes ago. Allie rasmus is live on the race course near alamos square where you finally have some, ali . Reporter yes, definitely a lot more crowded out here than it was an hour ago or a half hour ago. We are at hayes and scott at the bottom of the hayes street hill, about the midway point of the bay to breakers. This is a 12 k run. People get down the hill, people start to relax and take it easy as they settle into the elaborate costumes that we are seeing. The we have seen a couple of good bounce ones. At this point people are taking it seriously. As we get to the back of the crowd you get the people strolling and making their way along and not worrying so much about their run times. If we turn the camera around, you can see there is a lot of spectators around the area. 150,000 spectators expected. They wear costumes, too. We have seen thing 1 and thing 2. That is cat in the hat. We have the thousand porto potties. This helps the runners to use the facilities and dont have issues with public urination. There are families on the race route as well. A couple of chefs in costume with the baby lobster watching the race. We showed you earlier, the family selling lemonade and cookies. They said last year they made about 250 selling their goods to some of the people taking part in bay to breakers. About 20 minutes ago the first competitive runners made their way down the hayes street hill. Lets show you the video. Spectators on the route cheered and applauded as the elite runners raced down hayes street. They were escorted by organizers and police and followed by the tethered group of runners. There are Group Runners running together. Then we started to see the costume runners. 150,000 spectators expected to watch the race on this 12kilometer route. We have seen families with their kids. This is one of the spots where we are at the bottom of the hayes street hill where years ago neighbors and residents complained about problems with trash and public urination. Again, organizers have taken steps, changing the rules and changing some of the restrictions to participate in bay to breakers. Many residents that live here say the race atmosphere has become a lot more tame and welcoming in recent years. One neighbor said a few years ago she wouldnt have considered bringing her grandkids to watch the event. I wouldnt have brought my grandkids out. Too many naked people. Now you feel comfortable. I do. Reporter because things have changed . Yes, they have changed. Its more friendly, Family Friendly and i like that people are not drinking and they are not reporter maybe not obviously drinking. Not obviously drinking. Its better, more family oriented so i like it reporter back out live you can see the runners heading down hayes street. This is about the midway point. It is a 12kilometer run. They will make their way over to ocean beach and the great highway. We will show you the course. It spans the width of San Francisco. It goes from the bayside of the city, howard and main, to the breakers, the ocean, ocean beach and the great highway. There are a lot of road closures through these neighborhoods because of this race route and the event taking place today. Be aware of that if you if you are driving through the city and out here live a lot of spectators are watching. A tame atmosphere. Some people are strolling along instead of really running hard. It happened about 8 40 north of embarcadero road. The chp said it involved a motorcycle and sedan. They have not released any other details. They did close three lanes of traffic during the investigation and posted these photos on twitter. They asked people to avoid the area during that time. All lanes of traffic did reopen before 1 00 this morning. A pleasanton woman has been charged in a suspected dui crash that killed a 3yearold boy and injured her mother last year. The District Attorney said this woman is charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and is being held on a 3 million bail. Investigators say she hit a car on the shoulder of interstate 680 last september killing the 3 yearold boy inside the car. The d. A. s office said toxicology tests showed drugs in her system at the time. She was arrested for driving under the influence while her own child was in her car. A week ago she was picked up for alleged public drunkenness in pleasanton. She is the wife of a sheriffs deputy and could face more than 10 years behind bars if convicted. Breathtaking. There is a new effort underway at the state i dont want to help make it easier for people who do not make a lot of money to pay off traffic tickets. Alex savidge tells us about a bill that would give some drivers a discount on their fines. Reporter if this bill becomes law, it would give judges in many cases wide latitude, discretion to be able to reduce the amount of a fine for a traffic ticket by up to 80 . That is if a driver can prove that they are simply unable to pay the original amount of that fine. Now, people would only be eligible if the income is up to 2 1 2 times more than the federal poverty limit. The author of the bill says this is really an attempt to try to even the playing field. He says that hefty traffic fines that run hundreds of dollars are in many cases just an annoyance to people that are wealthy but they can be detrimental to low income earners that find themselves in debt. We talked to drivers about this idea. I think its a good idea. Yeah, some people dont make enough money to, like, pay tickets. A speeding ticket, they cost like 500 and up. That would make it preferential for people that are low income to break the law and speed and break other vehicle laws. Knowing that they wouldnt get fined as much. If the bill became law it would not apply to fines leveed for driving under the influence or reckless driving. The legislation is opposed by the california District Attorneys occasion which believes driving comes with a certain degree of responsibility. Those elite runners came over down the hayes street hill probably about 8 15 and spectators lined the rudd, cleared and a route, cheered and applauded them. They were followed by the competitive tethered Group Runners and then we started to see some of the costume runners. 40,000 runners have signed up to take part in beta breakers. 140,000 spectators are expected to watch the race. Weve seen quite a few families with their kids and years ago this spot where we are hayes and scott near the alamo square park was kind of a problem area with a lots of residents and neighbors complaining about public urination and drunkenness, but that has all really calmed down quite a bit because some of the changes theyve made. We talked to a fell out here who came out with their kids to set up a Lemonade Stand and theyre doing actually quite well this morning. Im watching them. They are just a second. Im in the middle of a report. They are setting up a Lemonade Stand and we talked to the dad earlier about how things have gotten much more tame and calm than in years past. What has this been like going from the Canadian Border here to San Francisco . Its been fantastic. The reception has been great. Everyone is positive about it and really receptive of the cause and what were trying to do. She weighs about 350 pounds, the hills have been a bit tough, headwinds a challenge, but its been great. Were losing on average three a day. At these rates weve got estimated about a decade until theyre gone in the wild. Then theyll just be in zoos and enclosed areas. So its to raise awareness and funds. Were sending money back to three organizations in africa to protect and preserve rhinos and through our two sponsors we are enabled to send all money raised back. So no one is earning anything from this. Reporter the poachers want the horn, right . What do they do with that . Its keratin, so basically its your fingernails. It has no scientifically properties, but it is etched in ancient traditions to be medicinal to cure various things, cancer, hangovers, various things. Reporter how are you doing . My record day was last sunday on mothers day 68 miles, most days 40 to 45 miles when im on the road the whole day. Lost a bit of pounds here and gained it all in the legs. It was misty and the fog came in and it was first thing in the morning not to create too much traffic and backlog, but it was really great. Hero up santa rosa search for two armed suspects in the southern part of the city several hours last night after a pursuit. Police tried to make a traffic stop on a car reported stolen. The driver refused to pull over and Police Chased the car to a neighborhood near blossom hill road and leigh avenue. That is where the two suspects got out and took off on foot. A viewer shared the photos of the san jose s. W. A. T. Team in the area. The two men are wanted for an earlier robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. The only description theyve given is the men are white or latino. The search continues into the early tomorrow morning. We have made repeated calls to the San Jose Police department for more information but have not heard back from them. Time now 9 25, the coastguard rescued a couple of swimmers at china beach in San Francisco yesterday. Fortunately for the two swimmers the coastguard was doing a water safety drill nearby, lucky for them. A crew pulled one of the swimmers from the water and spotted another on some nearby rocks between china beach and lands inn. The crew couldnt get close enough by boat, so the Fire Department responded by scene and retrieved the second swim other a jetski. They were able to get right up by the rocks, get that person out of the water onto the jetski and bring them back over towards our boat. When we got him on board we checked to make sure he was okay, got him warmed up and brought him back to our docks where we had local ems waiting for him. Both swimmers are showing signs of hypothermia but both otherwise doing fine. A b. A. R. T. Train derailment in daly city saturday afternoon is blamed for systemwide delays. Two cars on a nine car train derailed about 3 00 in the afternoon. No one was hurt, but the Transit Agency said the passengers were safely escorted off the disabled train. Some of the passengers on board the dublin bound train described the frightening moments as the train they were on filled with smoke. There was smoke coming from the back, so we were saying open the doors and the guy on the p. A. Said i cant open the doors. You have to walk forward to the front of the train away from the smoke. So we all started walking forward. I dont know where it came off the track and it started smoking. Thats when the boss told us it came off the track. Those delays continued well into the night as trains ran on a single track near that derailment. Said its fixing a problem with an emergency lighting system that is supposed to come on during Power Outages so passengers can safely evacuate but in april the system failed and passengers at the montgomery station were left in the dark. Five days later the same thing happened at the richmond station. B. A. R. T. Officials said they did a systemwide inspection and found emergency lighting was not working at a total of 14 stations even though inspection reports indicated otherwise. Herwise. Weve seen some creative costumes, but all this is very different from according to residents and people who live around here even though theres a Party Atmosphere, its different than it was several years ago when things got a little bit out of control according to some of the people who live around here. There were some problems with public urination and trash. Now rec and parks has been much more active in terms of cleaning up a lot of the trash afterwards, still the party crowd out here you can hear and see, but some of the people we talked to say this event is much more Family Friendly than it used to be several years ago. What was your favorite thing youve seen so far . Weve seen a lot of help, volunteering people, first aid and theyve got a really good setup and a lot of water and gatorade on the way. You can get a sense of the crowds and everybody really excited to be running this year. You heard that they had a lot of gatorade and stuff to take care of people and there we are. This is where the medals are passed out. This is what folks ran for and you can see a lot of really excited runners. They get a little bling here when they get to leave. Pleasanton police and the Alameda County District Attorney are investigating a deadly officerinvolved shooting that happened yesterday. Police say they were called to the home on Burgundy Drive before noon for a family disturbance and when they arrived, the homes garage door went open and a man with a gun came towards them. One officer fired his gun, killed that man. Neighbors say they hadnt noticed anything till they heard the gunfire. I was cleaning my garage. My neighbors were doing yard work and chores and we heard a series of gunshots ring out, four shots, then two shots, no yelling, no volatility, just all of a sudden the silence broke and it was gunshots. No one else at the home was hurt and the officer who fired the shots has been placed on administrative leave. Police have not identified the man who died but are not releasing his name yet as well and they say if they are not saying rather if hes related to anyone who may have lived inside that house. The European Union is fining facebook nearly 120 million. Facebook is accused of not being up front with regulators about its buyout of whats app. Facebook told regulators users would not be able to link whats app accounts with facebook, but the eu claims the staff knew linking accounts was possible. If you are, listen up to this recall. Nathans and curtis hotdogs pulled more than 200,000 pounds of hotdogs after customers found metal objects in the franks. The recall includes nathans skinless eight beef franks with a use by date august, 2017 and curtis beef master beef franks use by date june, 2017. Guests could be turned away again today as people try to get their disney fix in before those blackout dates. This is our 10th year of doing it. We have a process where we choose a theme and reveal the themes to the rest of our group and every year its been a blast.
