Officials there say that it is too early to determine whether an explosion that injured 29 people was an act of terrorism. It is just blocks away from that explosion. Police found a second device that appears to be a Pressure Cooker attached to wiring and a cell phone. Check out the Surveillance Video that shows the blast in the citys chelsea neighborhood while new york mayor bill de blasio said that there is no evidence of a terror connection. He did say that it was an intentional act. The reporter jack ibanez has more. Reporter a powerful explosion rocking Lower Manhattan saturday night injuring 29 people. A blast shattering windows, forcing the closure of several blocks. The explosion is jolting a neighborhood teaming up with restaurants, bars, and pedestrians. Authorities are unsure the cause of the explosion and exploring the possibilities right now. Bill de blasio reclined to answer. There is is no evidence at this point of a terror connection to this instance. Reporter the blast happened around 8 30 in the evening in front of 135 and 23rd street. People of at least seven blocks away reported feeling and hearing the loud boom. Nypd has video of the explosion collecting more video, but they would not discuss the details of the investigation. The early indications says that this was an intentional a. Were going to have a lot more to say in the coming hours as we will have more detail analysis. But we believe in this point in time that this was an intentional act. Nypd officers including members of the counterterrorism squad are on the scene along with fbi agents and Police Helicopters with search lights. Police searching for more potential explosions and nearby streets were closed. I heard a boom, boom. And everything started shaking. And there was big mound of smoke. People started running. The fbi is leading into the investigation along the cherry race. That pipe bomb went off inside a plastic garbage can yesterday morning. No one was hurt, but that may be because of the 5k charity race that was delayed for other reasons and the runners that were scheduled to be in the area at the time had not yet arrived. They do not think if this incident was terror related. Right now, they are searching with the atf, a whole bunch of investigators are fanning out, questioning individuals, looking for Surveillance Footage of the area, all those things will be done. Investigators say two other devices were wired to the one that went off, but they did not detonate. The people who have been evacuated from their homes have now returned. Several beaches in that area are staying closed until further notice. No arrests have been made. And the president ial candidate said very different responses to the incidents in both new york and new jersey. I must tell you that just before i got off the plane that a bomb went off in new york and nobody knows exactly what is going on. But boy we are living in a time we better get very tough folks. We better get very tough. Donald trump made those comments in Colorado Springs just minutes after the new york explosion happened. People have criticized him to say that a bomb went off because he made that comment before they publicly confirmed anything. Trumps rival Hillary Clinton talked to reporters on their plane just shortly after the incident. I think that we should, again withhold judgment until we know more about what happened with the likely motivation might have been. Obviously do everything that you can to determine who was behind the incident. Clinton making those comments after a speech to the Congressional Black Caucus foundation that are held in washington, d. C. Cloud, minnesota before they shot and killed them. None of their injuries are life threatening, but one of the victims is still hospitalized. Im so grateful and proud to finally be standing here to share in the celebration of life. Thank you. Reporter they say given that he was nearly beaten to death, his recovery is is truly remarkable. In the special patients that we cared for, he was among the most severely injured and the most medically complicated. And he never remembered me the whole time that he was here for four and a half months, but he remembers me now and enough to joke around and tease me. Reporter which is really an indication of some deeper recovery going on. Absolutely. Reporter his parents dont mince words. The initial doctor said that he was in a coma and we were looking down on him. We went from his doctor thinking that he was a dead person to where he is now is a miracle. Reporter more than 20,000 folks with traumatic injuries and conditions have been helped here. We see a lot of patients who have had strokes, spinal cord injuries and brain injuries over about 500 to 600 patients a year. Theres absolutely the potential for him to go further. It is really up to him to know how far he wants to go. I think that im doing okay regardless of what had happened. Im moving along. As slow as it seems for me i think that im taking steps closer. Reporter in fact mr. Stow uses what he learned in his former profession to improve his own condition. I loved being a paramedic. The best job in the world. And using that concept of life. That is brian stow who has come a long way. We have to interrupt that piece, we have breaking news out of new york right now. Lets listen in. There were no fatalities at the time. And we just inspected the subway station and the past station in the immediate area. To see if there were any damage done from the explosion to the subway station, etc. , and that were happy to report that there was no damage. And the mta is ready to be up and running as early as tomorrow to return to full service for those stations. There may be certain entrances that are closed depending on where the investigation is at that time. But we will keep you up to date on that. Ive been briefed by all the relevant agencies. At this time there is no evidence of an International Terrorism connection with this incident. But it is is very, very early in the investigation and that it is just starting the fbi has brought the evidence that they collected from the site of the explosion as well as the bomb that did not detonate and they brought them back. And they will be studying that. There was also an incident at seaside park, new jersey. And they are also taking that material to quantico. We are coordinating with resources between new york and new jersey. To see if there is anything that we could learn. The main coordinators of the mechanism is something called the jttf the joint Terrorism Task force. And that is up and operational. But the bombs that were in seaside, new jersey appeared to be different than the ones that were in manhattan. As i mentioned the response by the First Responders was extraordinary. You know, you drill all the time and you run exercises all the time. But it is still different when it happens. I spoke to mayor de blasio, the nypd did a great job, the fbi has done a great job, homeland security, new York State Police. Fire department, everyone really was working together and coordinating on the investigation. And we have no reason to believe at this time that there is any further immediate stress, but just to air on the side of caution, we will be deploying close to an additional 1,000 new York State Police and National Guard people to police the bus terminal there for it and their subway stations. Again, just to air on the side of caution and i want new yorkers to be confident when they go back to work on monday that new york is up and running and were doing everything that we need to do. I feel comfortable that this additional deployment will help do that and is prudent on this occasion. The bottom line on this is number one, whoever placed these bombs, we will find and they will be brought to justice. You have the finest Police Agencies in the world when you come to new york. And we will find who planted these explosions and they will be punished. Number two, we will not allow these type of people and these type of threats to disrupt our life in new york. Thats what they want to do, were not going to let them do it. This is freedom, this is democracy, and were not going to allow them to take that from us. So feel safe. Everything that needs to be done is done. Okay, youve been listening to a Live Press Conference with new york governor andrew cuomo, summarizing where the investigation stands right now, whats left of the explosive device that was in the chelsea neighborhood has been sent to quantico with no further threat. But they will deploy about 1,000 National Guard and other officers to keep an eye on things. There is also another bomb that went off in new jersey. They are sending in the remanence of that down in quantico as well to see if there is any connection to it as well. It happened at the villa hill top mall. He died at the hospital. According to the united teachers of richmond, nealy was a student at Greenwood Academy with a younger sibling in an Elementary School. The shooting appears to have been targeted, but no arrests have been made. Anyone with information is being asked to call richmond police. Time now it is 7 35, a palette fire that broke out just hours before the cal texas game spread to a nearby building happening a few blocks away from the commercial building of university and shaddock avenues. An Apartment Building next door had to be evacuated while crews knocked down the fire. One fire did suffer a minor arm injury. No other injuries were reported. One year since 7yearold sage was diagnosed with lymphoma, an aggressive cancer. In a recent Facebook Post his mom maya nelson wrote, one year ago i received a phone call that no parent wants to hear. Our lives changed in so many ways that day. The last year of our lives has had its ups and downs. I had to watch my child fight for his life. We have met some amazing people, been spoiled, had friends, family, and the Community Support us. And remember what is most important to live each day with appreciation and gratitude. Okay come over here. But last year has not only been trying to fight and beat cancer, but also been spent educating the public about pediatric cancer. The family has done that by chronicling their journey from the hospital bed and chemo rooms. They have shared his victories, finishing chemo, heading back to school. Well. What is it . The fight, that kids can get cancer. The fight. How hard was the fight . Not that hard. Because you are super sage, your nickname through the whole fight. Tanner, you tell me what it was like to go through this . It was really hard. At school kids were just making fun of sage because he had cancer. Maybe because they didnt know what was going on. When they went back to school they thought it was contagious and stood away from him. It is important for people to understand what cancer is about and what it really means. Yes. Mom, what was, i dont even know if there are words for describing the last year for you guys. Its been a wild ride. But we have learned a lot, we learned a lot about the medical world. We have med some amazing people. And we have just felt the love and the support from our community and that it has been completely overwhelming at times, but it is really what has helped us get through. Can you take us back to the day that you would get called . And the diagnosis . Yeah. He has had surgery the day before. And i knew i was going to get a phone call where it had been about 18 hours since surgery. I knew the phone call was coming and i work at the high school at the time about 3 20 in the afternoon the doctor called and you know he said it pretty frank. He said you know that your kid has cancer and pack up your stuff and in 45 minutes drive to your city and start chemo tomorrow. That was it. You know, that it was really hard until my husband. I couldnt really get the words out. We didnt tell sage for a couple more days as he knew that he was sick. But for the most part it wasnt 100 . I think that we were still in shock. You know we just knew it was another doctors appointment. And tell me about what you have learned most about the strength of your family. Ive been watching your journey the whole last year and it is amazing the pictures from the hospital, smiling, the community events. Everything that you have done to put your fight out there for everyone to kind of go along with you. What do you learn most about your family in the last year . Well they are amazing first of all. The Community Support has been very lucky and blessed with all the support that they have had and the care that they have gotten at ucf that is just amazing. What we have learned meeting more families is that they have so many kids out there that they didnt have all that support and that it is what we are hoping to do and to teach these guys to give back from everything that they have perceived through all of this. They are both educators. You hear them say that people are seeing everything. And kids dont understand, right . They get confused. Sometimes it will come out, you know, in a negative fashion. What is your message to other parents . You know, that you can get through it, you know, you take one day at a time and i think that the most important thing for us is to stay positive because you cannot get through Something Like this if you are sad all the time. I try not to cry around my kids, you know, it is hard not to. But to stay positive is really the most beneficial thing to myself and as well as to the entire family. All right, absolutely. Youre noticing already that there is no fog at the coast setting you up with a day today that well see temperatures as warm as they have been really in the last few weeks. Air quality today the spare the air day. Second day in a row as you look at oakland the federal building. You see them out there. Its haze. Checking out at ocean beach and Half Moon Bay clear. But the fog is offshore just a few hundred miles on out there. They will not be back until tonight. The fog will reside right now looking out towards daly city and twin peaks area. It will be a Beautiful Day out in the avenues of San Francisco. And if you are on your way on out there to the beach it is is not a bad plan, but there will be some folks on out there with you, the High Pressure has built in. We are set up with a day that will be the warmest that we have seen for a while going back to a cooler pattern over the past weekend or monday. In the meantime look at those wind streaks that you can see light on shore winds. Typically that they will be flying tonight and they will be showing you these winds flying in here cooling things off rapidly after a very warm day. But its not happening now. You know that youll be on the warmer side. The warming trend started a few days ago on wednesday. Monday was so cool if you could remember all the way back to last weekend. But now we have warmed up to the point that today will be the hottest day of the week, triple digit heat which is significant when you get into september. We have temperatures in clear lake that will be triple digits. 92 in kentfield. 80 in sausalito, just look at these big air qualities. The good air will be out here in the inland areas like livermore and the pleasanton area and their valley atmosphere area there and a lot of the pollutants will tend to linger also in the southern Santa Clara Valley down here in this area. Its not horrible, but a spare the air day. And because that there is not commutes on a saturday and sunday, typically not a commute. So that with that in mind that they will not have as much ground level ozone as you shouldnt be seeing a bunch of cars that were packed up with a lot of events, a lot of stuff going on around the bay area with the forecast warming up for your sunday. Then as you would push into next week it starts to cool off with the temperatures trending down. This is actually good, multiple days of heat will get us into the big time fire concern and always a fire concern. If you get past monday that well start to cool off pretty rapidly with your forecast. Hope you have a great day planned. It will be tough. Back at 7 55 now you might glance at a good year blimp this morning as they make their way up to oregon rather following last nights big stanford Football Game against sc. Now, you might not realize that there are only three female pilots in the world that are licensed to fly blimps. Ktvu photojournalist anna narte had a chance to fly with them. Thats todays segment 2. If you look outside the ship youll see that they are up from what you see. It is like being in a ship. The best way to describe it because you are using the buoyancy, as youre flying around in the current that it will be very similar. We did our first event in 1965 with quite a history in television. And aviation has been male dominated with over 130,000 commercial pilots. Only 4,000 of those are female and it is just not enough women flying. Reporter i found my job on google. And just hearing that, it is really cool, but also that it translates the blimp so much that youre always affected by weather. You know the story. But in a blimp it is everything. The hardest thing is definitely landing to the crew. So in a regular aircraft you would land out of the runway with nobody on it. And for blimp who is landing in the crew of your friends, your teammates, you know, of your fellow employees where you have to be careful to come in to not come in too fast or high and not to endanger anybody and i think that every landing, it has to be perfect as youll have the challenge that is there to make sure that you will be that good today and every day. Bill, we thank you for that. New this morning chp is investigating a deadly crash that apparently was caused by a driver going too fast. It happened just off southbound highway 101 in san jose. Other drivers called chp saying that a white car was going about 95 miles an hour. And it exited boston hill road. Investigators found a car and they hit a tree. Just moments later with the officer watching that tree that fell onto the car. No officers were hurt, but they could see that man in the car pass away. That they will not be able to identify him until that tree is finally removed from that car. And we are following developing news out of new york city just a short time ago. Andrew cuomo gave an update on last nights explosion that injured 29 people. He says that right now there is no evidence that the blast was connected to International Terrorism. This is Surveillance Video that shows the explosion in the citys chelsea neighborhood. It was Strong Enough to shatter windows and people several blocks away reported hearing and feeling about it. About 30 minutes though, cuomo talked about how they are responding, saying nearly 1,000 additional new York State Police and National Guard personal will be sent to bus terminals, airports, and subway stations. Just to air on the side of caution that he does not believe that there are any further threats. Just blocks away though, the second device that appears to be a Pressure Cooker with wiring attached to it in the cell phone. So far no arrests have been made. Now, during this mornings news conference, Governor Cuomo also briefly talked about yesterdays pipe bomb explosion in new jersey. He said that the pipe bomb that exploded there appears to be different than the one that exploded in new york. The new jersey explosion happened along the route of the marine corps charity race yesterday morning in seaside park. No one was hurt, but investigators say that may be because the 5k charity race was delayed. And the runners that were scheduled to be in that area at that time had not arrived yet. The fbi is not saying whether or not that they think that this incident was terror related. And after the president ial candidates, they had very different responses to the incidents of both new york and new jersey. I must tell you that just before i got off the plane that a bomb went off in new york. Nobody knows exactly what is going on, but boy that we are living in a time that we better get very tough and we better get very tough. Donald trump is making those comments just minutes after the new york explosion. And some people, they had criticized them for saying a bomb went off and because they made that comment before authorities had publicly confirmed anything. Their rival talked to reporters on her plane shortly after the incidents. I think that we should again default judgment until we know more about what happened with the likely motivation and what it might have been. Obviously do everything that you can to determine who was behind the incidents. And pardon me, clinton made those comments after the black Caucus Foundation dinner in washington. Premiering in San Francisco tomorrow showing us his commitment to physical treatment that has helped get in this far. And now to talk about their documentary, thank you for joining us. I feel like beating the odds is like the biggest understatement that they could make for those that dont understand Cystic Fibrosis. And basically the main part of it will affect your lungs that will get clogged up. Then it gets to the point where there is really the next step that will be a Lung Transplant because a lot of the scar on your lungs will be up and youre breathing and that it drops considerably. And that it will be down to 18 . That it will be so inspiring and a lot of people when they hear about Cystic Fibrosis and all the struggles, they feel like there is not a lot that they could do because they feel like it really is so devastating, which it can be and tell me about your message and what it is. One message is that you need to exercise their life to get out there to be releaptless. Leapt relentless. Whether you could just run a block or run a marathon, you need to get out and move your body. By exercising it will help keep your lungs clear. The biggest thing with Cystic Fibrosis is keep your lungs clear with less of an infection. Life expectancy was 38. Where were you and did you have that moment where you said youre going to do this . It was kind of a competition to me. They told my parents that you are lucky if your son makes it to his 16th birthday. Thats when i was 10 years old. I kept increasing, going, my parents got involved with sports in a very early age, which was back then a lifesaver for me. They didnt practice exercise for people. They basically told my parents let jerry sit at home and keep his comfortable. Right. To just go easy. Exactly. And i got involved with sports because of my father and my brothers. I started thinking if im an athlete that i will surpass the whole thing. And pushing themselves and being relentless. Yes, it is in five years. And i started pole vaulting in high school. I was running track at first and then decided to try pole vaulting, even better for Cystic Fibrosis because i was doing a lot of gymnastics, the bounding drills. Also doing a lot of weight lifting. And the foundation of doing these things with the pod cast and the gentlemen gentleman that was filming a pod cast decided to over a year do that documentary in taking a lot of those extra video. And that six months ago it was finalized and they have a finished product and it will be called up. And they will involve coaching, being relentless, beating the odds no matter what youre basing it on. It seems like anyone could learn that on. That there will be a lot of people that are, you know, not making it, they are passing it away. It is meant to get out there to show that, you know, Organ Donation is very important because people, you know, people with Cystic Fibrosis and the other diseases that they are not making it because there are not enough organs out there. It is shaping up to be a hot one, the spare the air day today and you have triple digit heat in those inland bay valleys. It will be warm especially inland. Like the Livermore Valley and santa clara. You dont need me to tell you a hot day when it is in september and you look to the west and you dont see any fog that air quality will be looking pretty good here. A part of the reason is that the smoke from the soberanes fire is not getting up in the area because of the wind direction and we dont have a commute. People on the roads, but we dont really have a commute on saturday or sunday. So a lot of the air that we would get is not showing up. Now, santa clara is down towards the airport area and the ballpark down into san jose area and youll see the air quality is not as good. Of course that has to do with their approximatety and the air quality that will linger more. We do a spare the air day like this as youll be talking about san jose and Livermore Valley and the worse air quality places like santa rosa and San Francisco that youll probably even notice it. As we would look at those temperatures, the High Pressure that will be building in, it will create a very, very hot and warm day depending on where you are if you dont like the big heat just move through the coast a little bit. Checking out whats happening around the country with a line of strong storms here moving out of the clouds towards meme towards memphis. The Tropical Storm, which has been out there since, you know, last week, that it has been out there for four to five days lingering out there. For those folks that didnt come on shore that they have been lingering offshore and the fog, it will be back tonight and youll see it back behind me, a little bit offshore here tonight and that you could see them take it out for the fog right there. By noon today that it will be, well 50 miles offshore and it will be a slow sea breeze eventually bringing it in the evening hours. But the temperatures, they would have been achieved and they will see those triple digit heats in the sacramento and Fairfield Area and davis and their vacaville area. But look at those footprints, 70s through San Francisco and the east side of San Francisco. Just a very, very warm day. The warmest day that we have seen in a while, just take it slow. The forecast really for the next few days, it will be hot as today, slightly cooler tomorrow, and then more significant cooling you guys as we will head into the middle of next week, which will be great because they will back down to the fire danger. If we ran this kind of heat for three days well start getting those fire issues. Right now with almost one and done for today and tomorrow that will be less and then next week significant cooling.
