Organizer of the rally filed a lawsuit against the city saying it was unconstitutional to move the rally to emancipation park. The purpose was to protest the removal of a statute of robert e lee. Friday a judge rules the rally could be held in the emancipation park, that denied this large group of people caring tiki torches chanting blood and soil white lives matter and you will not replace us marched across the university of virginia bringing us to saturday when the united the right group and self proclaimed nazis faced off with a group. A state of emergency was issued after violence between the groups broke out. Later, Heather Heyer was killed and 19 others were hurt when a car drove into a crowd of people. Lawmakers from both sides of the aisle and people around the country are speaking out about what happened. People in charlottesville reeling from this weekend, a makeshift memorial growing as folks try to get back to normalcy, those stopping by says the violent does not represent this town. We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred bigotry and violence on many sites. Some republicans are criticizing the president s response. Call this white suppresses them and not neonazi is an evil. He missed an opportunity to condemn these groups. The white house says the president said very strongly that he condemns all forms of violence bigotry and hatred of course that includes White Supremacists, [null], neonazi and all extremist. Lets bring in our political analyst on the phone. The political impact from the president s words on camera over the weekend. I would say they were insufficient. They were clarified to the extent the white house was feeling pressure to elaborate on the commentary, but this is a sad incident. Who do you think is putting those words on paper for the president to say . Maybe he is, but who is guiding him through the process . One would think in cooperation or in concert i should say with the Communications Office in the white house that is where it would have come from. Typically it is something where they say make up a statement and get it over to us. For the president can release it. In that statement a lot of people were criticizing him because he said and all extremist groups, do you think that is a problem or is that appropriate . Did he say that because he thinks he might have missed some groups or is that a reference to the socalled groups that were marching . So hard to say, it was sort of artfully crafted when he said all other groups because i go back on statements he has made about groups on all sides of the political debate and violence and he may have decided that he wanted to take a run at all groups that are utilizing any sort of violence. In this case obviously, you need to isolate this and speak to the violence that happened and that hate that was centered in charlottesville. It appears the president is trying to turn the page. Since the incident he has tweeted about an Alabama Senate primary candidate, the manufacturing counsel, trade deals, do you think there is enough pressure for the president to circle back and name these groups or do you think he is trying to push to what is next . I think he will be compelled to come back and speak to it again. I dont know if he will call out certain groups. I think you can call out the movement the fascist movement or the neonazi movement for the white supremacist movement. He could hand out a list and i think maybe that is where he said im just going to talk about hate in general. Really quickly i noticed the president s daughter tweeted there is no place for racism, White Supremacy or neonazis so she is using those words. Yes, i am saying that when i think the president is further pressed he will probably have to make a list but i have no idea what he was thinking about when he said all groups for all acts of violence but again you know it was insufficient around what happened. So what is keeping him from just coming out and saying what even some members of his own party have said even the Vice President. A lot of senators and the Vice President came out and said it why is it so hard for him to do that . If he would have done that we wouldnt be talking about that. It is inexplicable, who can read his mind at times . I just think he decided it was an opportunity to talk about hate in general but as we all know we have heard very interesting commentary over many months from this president and sometimes we get a follow up explanation and sometimes we dont and hopefully he will spend more time commenting on this particular case because it is just tragic on all fronts. There is one other element to remember and that is what we are generally seen is the uptick in these protests where we are seeing counter protests. That is something we saw in berkeley and other places so that adds another element to these very violent protests. What about the coverage . We talk about the Vice President i want to read what he said. I will say i take issue with the fact that many in the National Media spend more time criticizing the president s words than criticizing those that perpetrated the violence to begin with. What do you think about that . There is some truth to that. The president , i understand people like Maxine Waters say the president is at fault but i can tell you from traveling in the deep south and writing often on the civil war that 150 years after the civil war some people in the south still call the civil war the war of northern aggression. There is a feeling about White Supremacy in the south about things we need to address and so we move this statue and it becomes very symbolic for a lot of those people who are a part of the south. They are still looking for the gunman in this case. Reporter that is right, first lets talk about the traffic we have been working on this all morning. This is i880 southbound at the lewelling boulevard. We are just off the off ramp traffic is now getting back to normal but chp says it will be ours before the traffic pattern returns to normal. At this point the victims vehicle the black mitsubishi has been moved off the freeway where it was sitting for hours. At last check chp says the driver is in Critical Condition with a had bullet wound. That is the update from 15 minutes ago. At 2 30 this morning chp received multiple 911 calls about a road rage incident on i 880 southbound through san leandro and then they got the 911 call that said shots were fired on the freeway. Officers arrived shortly thereafter and found the victims vehicle with the driver shot in the head. He was able to control the vehicle and pull the vehicle over to the center of the road the median area. The man who was shot transported to the hospital in google condition. Three others in the vehicle and injured. Those men are spanish speakers and they are cooperating. The suspects were likely driving a white vehicle possibly with multiple occupants. Investigators tell us that vehicle should be considered an ongoing threat. We dont have anything except for a white sedan so if you are in the area and you heard something or saw something please call your local office. Even if you think it is not important. It can help several life. Reporter chp investigators are looking for any help the public may offer. Chp tells me they are reviewing any possible Surveillance Video that might have either captured the incident itself or possibly the suspects as they tried to make their way away from the scene. If anybody knows the suspects they are telling people to not approach them. At this point they should be considered armed and dangerous considering this mornings events. A little more on the road rage angle, did investigators tell you it was the people who fired their weapons or was there an exchange of gunfire from the other car that ended up coming to a stop . Everything is still under investigation but from what they are telling me this was a oneway incident, shots were fired from one vehicle into the victim. Have not said anything about recovering another weapon or about shots being fired from the other vehicle. This is why they spent so much time out in the middle of i880 trying to map the scene and figure out what happened with what vehicle. Of course we remember the shootings from 80 and highway 4 , have they talked about the possibility that this could be related to those from a different county . Reporter that might be difficult to look at because these incidents tend to be isolated where one person flyers up, they referenced in that because they said there are some cameras remember there are cameras along the freeway in the area. They are looking to see if there were cameras that may have been in position to capture this shooting incident or possibly the suspects vehicle. Now this move looks similar to protests we have seen over the past year although it is unclear if this had anything to do with something specific. The only one who referenced the issue was the raiders coach jack dell rio who spoke to reporters after the game. He said this is something i have done for 11 years. It is just me being myself. I said so you understand how i feel i very strongly believe in standing for the National Anthem but i will respect you as a man , you do your thing. Coach later said he did not know ahead of time which would sit but he called it a non issue for him. He says he does not consider the actions a distraction. He said no comment. Okay, thank you. Price gouging is not illegal but breaking a contract is. For the hotel to come back and say we want to change the price, it is i think pretty clearly a breach of contract. Brian ballard is a Consumer Protection attorney he says based on this information that we provided him the hotel is actually in violation. There is not a way for the hotel to escape having to fulfill their end of the contract simply by saying we would like to profit more than we would have otherwise. Ballard says three things constitute a contract first, an offer in this case the 140 rate, second acceptance that happened when the jenkins booked the room, the 13 consideration. Taking the credit card to hold the reservation was just that. They gave him a credit card. The hotel, if the Consumer Council two hours before they showed up the hotel would gladly charge. There is a possibility the hotel may not be in violation if the jenkins clicked a box giving the hotel permission to cancel or change the price.
