KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 9am July 6, 2017

If you look at the trees theres a dirt road in there. We use today get the yep and jump over anza. Oh boy. The traffic misbehavior. I was taking my children to the zoo and i was like remember when i was that, and we did say that. Thank you. Thats different. That was high school. This not admissible in court anymore. We would have been 16. Oh good. Do i dont think you would have married your spouse if they told you. I dont know if i would have. No. I have nothing to confess from my earlier years i have been straight and narrow as i am today. If you knew your husband now or knew him a little bit earlier. I have said this to my husband and to the two of you, whatever wow did in your past before you came to me is completely forgiven because thats what made you the man you are today. Got it. Jumping over through woods. Yeah. We have a busy newscast. We do for you today. We will start in the south bay. Coyote freak flooded several neighborhoods back in february but hundreds of people are still not able to actually return home. Pressure they hope will help get compensation. We will e plain what theyre doing today to get more help. Alex. Reporter good morning to you six different families are seeking compensation for losss and they filed administrative claims against both the city and the county, for not doing enough to prevent this disaster and for a slow response, once the flood waters began to rise along coyote creek. Many of the families taking this legal action live here in the rock springs neighborhood. This one area of san jose, that was hit hard and you can see theres clear evidence of this disaster even six months after the fact. And the Mobile Home Park near old oakland road. They were all damaged by catastrophic flooding that we saw here in san jose back in february these familys are taking legal action against the district. And according to the claims the Water District should have done a better job dealing with the rising waters at anderson dam from the big rainstorms we saw earlier this year, and they also say that contributed to the coyote creek being overwhelmed by the all of that run off. I talked a short time ago with a representative for these families. They saw what was coming. They saw the heavy rains. They saw Anderson Reservoir filling up and they didnt do anything to try to keep the water level down. Think could have. If they kept the water level down through pumping for instance, there would never have been an overflow of anderson dam and never have been a flood. These families also came that the city and county did not act quickly enough to issue evacuation orders once they knew that coyote creek was overrunning its banks and that is something that city officials at least here in san jose have acknowledged in the past, that they should have issued those orders earlier on. This disaster all told cost tens of millions of dollars in damage across the city, and we did check in with city officials who tell us that theyre still, at this point, there are about 120 family who is have not been able to return to their flooddamaged home, they are still seeking assistance and by the way speaking to have city of san jose, just got off the phone with a representative for the city i was speaking a response to the claims that have been filed fbi families and i am told by the representative that theyre going to speak with their attorneys for the city and they will have a response this morning but in kusa a couple of hours at 11 00 this morning, those family who is have filed these strait administrative claims will be here in the rock springs neighborhood holding a News Conference and speaking out about what they have seeking. Alex, thank you very much. We will explain how this money will translate into more supplies. A am standing in Head Quarters of rebuilding together and this is bev jackson. We understand going 18 donating a hundred thousand dollars to the rebuilding effort here. How did this all come about. It is great. They contacted it city about being able to help flood survivors here in san jose and the city said they should talk with rebuilding together and help us with our efforts. Those efforts are what exactly what do you guys do. We have been doing critical housing repairs for those impacted by the home, specifically in the mobile home work. Thats where we have been focusing our efforts. Looking at how they were chest high in soma just inundated. Which is what. We have been doing a lot of duct work and under the mobile homes repairs as well as a lot of the outside skirting and stair repairs so this is say set of stairs that will be used to retro fit the mobile homes we have been working in. I dont mean to rebill the work because everything is important but the stairs really have a big impact or more rules or is this really helping people. To have a safe and healthy home, it is all of those factors a roof you need a roof but you also node be able to get in and out of your home. Thats where the stairs make a difference, if you cant get inside you cant get into your home. A lot of home hearsay waters at least this high so the stairs would be damaged so these and oughted. Like this will be purchased by the hundred thousand dollar. Yes. We have been working and theres a lot of work still devote be done for these to be safe exam healthy. Google is really investing in community and seeing the impact to ensheer all of the resident versus safe and healthy homes. You have a lot of stuff lined up on these calls this is all part of the materials you use i take it. We do work in about 360 homes in the san jose areas and the flood is just increased that number of homes that need to be repair. At what point will these stairs with put into good use. Immediately. Were doing work monday through friday yearround, were always installing stairs so these are stairs ready to be installed within the next week into is somebodys home to have safe access to their home. The mayor made a big point of looking forward to come with these kind of ktvu fox new. We continue to follow the story of a hit and run driver accused of killing two people in a crash in concord. Just yesterday the mother of the children made a statement outside ucsf in oak land where her third child a baby boy remains in critical condition. I have been through such an ordeal today, and it is everyday like that. Shoyus came from the funeral home right now. They made a point of getting out of theater early to skip the lines getting out. They were driving home and thats when the chp says a drunk driver with a isnted license hit the Dodge Durango on a ramp up highway 4 killing her sons ages 5 and 10. We saw her wearing a neck brace. She has been treated for minor injury. The driver of the other vehicle, lemuem wilson has been arrested. We have been following this story. Yesterday we learned more about what wilson is being charged with and what led up to be him being released on bail one day before the crash. You always hate to hear these stories when someone is released from jail and a crime occurs within 24 to 48 hours involving that individual. What was he in jail for there. He was in jail for allegedly making criminal threats, police say that he and his brother were at the time in order strom at the stone ridge mall, and they got into a dispute. The clerks told them to pipe it down and the two brothers allegedly threatened to kill the employees and witnesses with a gun. He was in jail but he made bail, and now hes he made bail because they lowered the bail. Right. His defense attorney in that case asked to be reduced from 100,000 dollars to 10,000. A judge granted exit he made bail the next day and after that the crash occur. Thats what gets people really upset. This person would not have been upset if this were not reduced. Why would they reduce bail on a person who threatens. They make argument, you know, obviously for law and order folk ifs they had their way to one would be able to make bail. This case, hes being charged with two countsover murder, commit run and other dui charges his bail is now 2 million. Go ahead. No, please. Not go go back to bail thing but any idea about pries or the reasoning behind the reduction . Why reduce if bail. If judge looks at other factors, it included criminal threats, forgery and things that were not relate to the dui. He had go dui convictions from 2005 and 201. Now those prior duis were taken into consideration by the da to instead of charging him with vehicular manslaughter, boom they charged him with two count of murder. He was driving on a suspended license. 50 to 75 of people who have been convicted of dui still drive on a suspended license. Whats the argument for why this man was on the streets . It is unclear. I pulled the dmv record. 5 00 todaying what i found his drivers license was suspended or revoked as far back as 2005. I couldnt tell whether or not he had clear that had but at the time of the crash, the chp confirms his license was suspended or revoked. He should not have been driving at all. Do people in trouble for giving them keys to a car . He gets out a day lateer and hes driving. Where does he get that car. Whoever is behind the wheel. Chp is saying he shouldnt are been driving and hes facing far more serious crime. Some states bump ape second dui to a felony. California doesnt do that. Are you hearing any talk of california making that change . I have no background on what is going on with california put i know that the da is saying you know you had these two differs, you should have known better. Thats why you are being charged with murder and not just vehicle manslaughter. You are an aggressive reporter. I know you will continue to follow this story. What are you working on. More details to see what led up to murder charges. We will try to talk to chp, dida and defense attorney. For more on this were joined vie i dont i cant sky a reporter for the via sky for a reporter for the wall street. Every auto maker versus tesla right now. Whos going get there first . What position is volvo in that allow it is company i guess to kind of bet to big on this technology . Versus one of the biggest. They make profits. They a smaller fleet and they can make this, and theyre also motivated by the fact that regulation ins the u. S. And in europe and in china are really pushing a lot of this kind of development. Now, tim, do you see that that sighty ant as they call it range anxiety about electric cars . Am i going be able to make threat and back without having to find a spot to charge . How are American Driver going to get over this range anxiety other than buying hybrid. Range anxiety is a real thing. I have had a fully electric car that i have driven around and have worried about it running out of juice. One thing they have been pushing to develop Battery Systems that can go longer per charge. We have seen this development the last few year, one big, that has been one of the big hurdles, and the other thing is the cost of the battery, we have seen as more and more auto makers develop these kind of vehicles the cost versus come done in last few years and mckenzie thinks that within the next decade it will be parody between electric and gasoline powered vehicles which would be a big thing to make these more popular. When it comes to volt slow, it is not exactly a luxury brand but it is a little more high end. The new tesla is about about thousandish. Can you ball park how much we will pay for these because my new car costs 20,000, and thats kind of right around my comfort zone. Price is say big deal. It has been a big deal. It is a big deal for all cars. They buy on price and than has been a big challenge for electric vehiclevehicles tax breaks that reduce it is ownerrership to say why do i need it and you look at car sales this year and last year, suffer, you know have been soring. Yeah. The car replace the horse carriage. Thats considered a revolution. Saying goodbye to this combustion engine, you know, are we experiencing kind of a what year is it, 2017 by 2035, 40 will we experience thisny next revolution cars here . It was just too expensive for the development of batteries but it has taken these years to push that costs down. You look forward and most analysts believe that i lek thick cars are probably going to be the future. So you prekick other companies will put a date stamp on it and say you know what were done too, come 2020, it is all electric, others will follow. And have been pushing for greater percentages of their fleet to be electric. So it might not be a hard deadline but Natural Evolution will probably take us there. All right. Tim agans, always a pleasure. My wife does. I dont have the range anxiety. Thats not an issue for me. It is cost. I know you are not there yet. Maybe they will come down. The more auto makers make them. Theyre priced competitive. Cooing up next, the attempted kidnapping of a sixyearold boy is spill spoiled by the boys family.
