There. Cant you anything in San Francisco. It might be like that later on tonight. Alex savidge is in. Sal is out. Having a great day off. Independence day filled with so many traditions from the fireworks to the parades. One of my favorites. I love the pancake breakfast. You take the children down to a local fire house. I wish i could join them today. Favorite traditions for today. All about family. We get together for a pot luck. I love the sparklers and i love to cook. Any celebration that involves barbecue is a good one for me. I was off yesterday, food poisoning. We have been talking about that all morning. Kevin durant is celebrating because he has decided to stay with the Golden State Warriors after taking a pay cut. He has agreed to a two year deal which is 9 million less than the max he could is signed to stay with the warriors. By doing so, it allows golden state to keep iguodala and livingston. Keep the bench in tact. 9 million. I know they make a lot of money. A lot of people talked about the fact that he will be okay with that 26 million a year or whatever it turns out to be. If you put it in perspective, it amounts to like a 25 pay cut. Right. For him. Right. In his world. Right. Agreeing to a 25 pay cut, how many of us would agree to that. How many professional athletes would do it. That is not his only source of income. No. Endorsements. He will be okay. Even with the endorsements, there are clauses saying if you win a championship, you get a bonus in the millions. Our question of the day is this, would you take a pay cut at work to keep your winning Team Together . No matter what your business is . Yes or no. Checking in the results right now. 76 say yes. 24 say no. Some chatter about this on this fourth of july. We have a lot of team players. Three out of four. Winning especially with your crew is so much more fulfilling than losing with a little more money and how many millions does a person need . Okay. So phil says i said no because i dont make tens of millions of dollars. A pay cut for me means i will be leaving with my teen. Jenny lynn weighing in. Real estate doesnt have a salary cap and i dont have a 3 million shoe contract. I will be accepting that annual raise and the bonus. You think that 75 are lying. I think people are do you think theyre lying . Look. I trust you. Look, when you come to the bargaining table and yes. For me, work is how i put food on the table for my family. If you threaten that in any way, i will bite you. You need a great team to be number one to stay on top. Youre threatening my current status of living. Were talking about extra play money. We will be talking about this all morning long. We can keep going if you want. At 9 30, we will officially review the responses to the really good question of the day. It is the fourth of july. And one of the biggest fourth of july parades in the bay area were going to take you too here. A major tradition. People starting putting their lawn chairs along the streets of downtown danville last night to secure the best spots to view the festivities. The parade is just getting started. Christien kafton is there. Reporter what do they say, guys . Timing is everything. Your timing could not have been better. The parade just getting underway in danville. The Danville Fire Department starting that parade. Some Danville Police officers down there in the distance as well. If you take a look, you can see we have Sheriffs Office representative as well. Were going to come over here. Chip, do you have a second to talk about what the fourth means. This is a great day to celebrate our countrys independence. This is small town america. Were thrilled to be here and celebrate with thousands of people in danville. This is my first time for the danville parade. I hear it is one of the best. I think it is the best if not the bay area but the country. You will see why today. Happy fourth, guys. Happy fourth. There you have it, guys. Thats what the fourth is all about. Hey, do you know what else the fourth is about . Good times for families, for kids, for all kinds of folks. You can see the Sheriffs Office here is starting to move down their armored personnel carrier. You know what were going to do . Do you know what the fourth is all about . Right . Candy for the kids. Look at that. Right. I only had one piece. They got to fight over it. They will get plenty of candy. They are throwing candy from the floats over here. As you move down, they have the Sheriffs Office over here. Across the street you see the boy scouts of america representatives as well. All in all i think people have set a high bar for me at the danville parade. I dont think i will be disappointed. Alex, i know you have been here in years past. Gasia has been talking about it all morning long. I think this will live to up the hype. Thanks. Great tradition there. Tonights Fireworks Show over the San Francisco waterfront is another big event. We will have the preparations there at 9 30. The Alameda County fair is telling people to arrive early for the big Fireworks Show tonight or they wont be allowed inside. Gates to the fairgrounds close at 6 00 for the 9 30 show. No new tickets will be sold. No reentry after 6 00. Close to 60,000 spectators when they brought it back in 2014. Police have been concerned about the large crowds and there will be extra security on hand toned. Officials at the uss hornet say their Independence Day celebration is one of the more patriotic in the bay area today. It is now a Floating Museum which is docked on pier 3 in alameda. Festivities include a tour of the ship. To cap off the night, people can watch the fireworks display from around the bay from the flight deck there on board the aircraft carrier. The California Attorney general says last year saw an increase in hate crimes over the year 2015. A new report just released yesterday is explaining who was targeted the most. Ktvus janet breaks down the report and tells us about the top three types of bias. Reporter an attack on a sick Man Threatening to cut off his hair to incidences of graffiti. The attorney general says the number of hate crimes increased in 2016 over the previous year. According to the report, last year there were 931 hate crime incidents, up 11 from 2015. Hate Crimes Involving racial bias were up 21 . Those involving Sexual Orientation up 10 . Overall 220 cases were filed by prosecutors throughout california. Africanamericans are the most common racial target grew. Jew is the most common religious target group. Reporter we sat down with a professor at uc berkeley who says the data likely shows only a part of the total picture. If you look at the National Crime Victimization Survey which is a random survey of people, you will see 10 to 20 times as many that are reported to the police. The phenomena is much larger than the policing data will reveal. Reporter he says that the slight increase in 2016 is not enough to draw any definite conclusions. He says from 2010, hate crimes have been on the decline. The fact that there is an increase from 2015 to 2016 comports with some of the anecdotal data about interracial and interreligious tensions in the current political climate. Reporter while the numbers may seem relatively small, tracking hate crimes is important for the community and law enforcement. It is common that hate crimes damage and hurt and scare and terrorize the community to which the victim belongs. Then theres just the the effect that it has in terms of the relationships among communities and the degree of trust that you have between communities and between communities and authorities. So its really important to track that. That report lists the number of hate crimes in the nine bay area counties. Alameda had the most at 59. San francisco had 36 reported crimes. Napa county had the least. One reported hate crime. We posted a link to the full report if you want to read it on ktvu. Com. Just want to say alex savidge you were right on that pop quiz. Can we take a live picture. Which state was not bun of the original 13. You said i said vermont. And you were right. I backed you up on that. And what was that moment . Yes. I wanted to i lost a couple friends i served with to ptsd. I wanted to do something about it. I wanted to do something that no one has ever done before. So i saw different people doing Cross Country walks for various reasons. Uhhuh. But to our knowledge, no one has ever walked all four corners continuously before. I decided thats what i want today do. Sold everything that i had from my pickup truck to my dishes to, you know, my cats went to my neighbors. Oh, wow. Got my gear and a plane ticket and went down to pensacola and started walking. Tell me about your feelings when you leashed about the friends that learned about the friends you that lost. Some people might have second guessed was there a sign that i missed. You have been through it a number of times. Yes. You hear of survivors guilt that. Is definitely a real thing. It is really hard to put into words just the the feeling of loss and sadness that maybe if i would have called them or maybe, you know, if we would have done this, it could have made a difference. When it comes to treating pt sd is it an issue of not being in the way of services and support for veterans who are suffering with ptsd or do you feel that people may be not seeking the help . Because there is a stigma tached to ptsd. Yes. In the military you are taught to suck it up. I am address very cat for calling a veteran. Even just sending a text. Hey, whats up. Thats all you need to do. A lot will stay in their house and not get out. As far as treatment, different options for ptsd, there are tons around the country that i have met. Even one flies falcons.
