sunset of valor section of the cemetery behind us. volunteers started placing flags at the gravesites here and throughout the day and afternoon we will see american flags placed at the site of every service member buried here throughout the 80 acres. many volunteers as you can see our kids and teens, boy scouts and cub scouts and girl scout troops are taking part. they started with a presentation of the colors and the boy scout members raised the flag up and brought it down to have staff. and will remain at half staff until noon and the pledge of allegiance was said by -- they started their work. flag placing is a tradition for local scouts in the area going  on for 20 years. this morning we spoke of the man who started the tradition with kids decades ago. >> being a veteran myself it's taking time to honor veterans for the country we have freedom of religion and freedom of speech freedoms that other countries around the world do not have men and women lay their lives on the line so people can have life and we have it in this country it. >> it's an honor to share with people who helped defend and honor this country. >> here in the center of the park in front of the flag, members of danza high school rotc program have set up a fallen soldier memorial. you can see one member doing a slow march. they would do it in different shifts, walking back and forth until 2:30 this afternoon in tribute on this memorial day. rolling hills memorial park is open to the public by the end of the day we should start to see american flags like the one on the hill. they were not any earlier but volunteers have been doing, making progress and going about the work quickly. by the end of the day, we should see some american flags pretty much spanning out across 80 acres in richmond. >> there will be ceremonies across the bay area. san francisco presidio will hold the 149th memorial day ceremony. 2000 people are expected to attend and it begins at 10:30. there will be a wreath laying ceremony. 21-gun salute followed by a picnic at the main post. animal ceremony takes place in one hour at the historic military cemetery. annual ceremony takes place the oldest in the western u. s. in the western u. s. >> the army set up an outpost in the 1840s. the first soldier was here for many years it was home to the u. s. army arsenal and in 1960s they left benetia. the last person >> beautiful. third waterslide shut down a dublin waterpark the wave. >> it comes as officials continue to investigate how a boy flew off the waterslide of the weekend. alex savidge is live with more on what the city is doing.>> reporter: we did get an update from city officials a short time ago. two of the six slides here at the brand-new wave waterpark in dublin are shut down because of safety shot a short time ago because inspectors from the state's department of occupational safety and health are here taking a look at the emerald plunge slide. they opened with the ride manufacture whitewater to figure out what went wrong on saturday when a 10-year-old boy was thrown from the slide. the accident was captured on video by photographer from the bay area news group shooting a story. the boy landed on the concrete next to the slide and only suffered some scratches and was okay. this is what city officials say about the accident this weekend. >> it was at and 80 degree angle so you the city officials tell me that is because of an unrelated water pressure issue not related to the safety concerns they had with a two other steep slides. that third slide riptide rider we are told will be open today. two of the six slides shut down here at the wave dublin's waterpark with grand opening on friday and not the way city officials wanted things to start for this new park but they stolen. several officers try to get the driver of the car to pull off of interstate 80 near leisure town road and instead the drivers sped up a police chased it to orange drive to keep vacaville police officers fired shots at the driver and the driver died. one police officer was hurt and we are not sure how he was hurt. the shooting is under investigation. closing arguments in the penalty phase of the antonen garcia-torres murder trial are expected to start tomorrow after today's holiday. the defense and prosecution rested their case on thursday. the same jury convicted garcia- torres of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamarr. her body was never been found. the jury will decide whether garcia-torres should get the death penalty or life in prison. tomorrow, more jury deliberation of the murder trial of three santa clara county deputies accused of the fatal beating of a jail inmate in 2015. the three deputies charged with murder in the death of michael tyree. defense lawyers suggest tyree may have slipped, fell or caused his own death before his body was found in his jail cell. prosecutors pointed to the coroner report determining tyree was beaten to death. if convicted, the deputies could get life in prison. british police have made another arrest linked to the deadly bombing at an ariana grande concert in manchester, england. there are 14 men in custody suspected of helping in the suicide bombing. there may be others involved in planning the attack who have not been found yet . britain has lowered its terrorism alert level from critical to
