i love baseball and i love this ballpark. so many memories here. not just working for ktvu but i was here in the stands with my wife and probably the greatest moment for me was 2012 with game number seven. it was in the rain and it was a special moment. looking up to the heavens. >> i would say of the things that i have seen in my sports career that was right up there are when i was standing on the field for the catch expect the two most exciting moments i've ever seen. >> i kind of bring this story up because this ballpark is nearly 20 years old and still on this morning it looks like a gym. i want to bring in the ceo of the san francisco giants with larry baer. we are talking about how this park is 20 years old and do you have a favorite moment? >> that is a tough one. i would have to say opening day. lest anybody is worried we have lost a couple opening games here but my first day was april 11, 2000 and we lost four in a row. and we were saying should we rethink this? we just spent $400 million. and then they won the game on saturday and we won the most games in the national league that year. you know, you go through the world series championships and interestingly, all three championships were won on the road, as you know. however, amazing moments. who can forget the catch to win the national league? >> i was in the bleachers that night. i was trying to stay dry and who can remember that and who can remember the memorable homeland and who could forget that? so it just goes to some of the clinches that we have had here because of the fans into the bus pulling up and thousands of fans creating the team when they arrive. it was part of the moment here. you could go on and on but it has been a privilege and then the moments in the community after 9/11 would like to think of this ballpark as a community gathering place. they came here when we had some memorial tribute as we played baseball again after the interruption and i think people came here and felt a sense of community to share the grief and the fear with each other and that can be therapeutic. >> reporter: he says something that spurred my memory. he talked about kevin elster. when this place was first built we thought here come the dodger shortstop the first day hitting three home runs and then it is only 71. who would've thought it wouldn't be in triple digits by this time? >> you play around with all of this and you only get one chance to get it right to have a ballpark that works but you are never really sure. if you look at it on paper even though you have this at the right-center you don't know if the ballpark somehow is not going to work with too many home runs. i do remember someone saying to me you just need a place for some part of the park for the pitcher to pitch to. in right-center field it is really hard to hit one out so we went to a lot of things and we turned the ballpark about 10 degrees so some parts have a view of the downtown skyline but we turned the park even more this way to block the wind. and one of the things you don't hear about is pitcher and catcher in the stands. it is easy to forget but 18 years ago people set baseball in san francisco it is just to go wendy and cold. >> you mentioned barry bonds on the roster and he is back how did that go down with that conversation knowing that it is time to bring him back? >> you will see him in the stands today. when barry retired -- when he retired he said i may want to try my hand at being a hitting coach as you can remember when bobby was the first base coach. i may want to try my hand at that. it really wasn't available here. ultimately i want to help players and i want to do things in the community and be part of the family. so we had to really wait for the time to be right. prior to that doing a lot of things he had to go through his legal issues and had his legal case resolved and so the time is really right this year looking forward to having many tributes to bury as well as having him represent us in helping with the minor leagues in helping with the young hitters. and the real benefit he thinks which is fantastic is the guy we just drafted when you're in the minor league. that is where the real learning curve is. as opposed to a 10 year veteran. not as much that he could give that guy is supposed to a young and up-and-coming minor league. >> reporter: we have to send it back to the studio but we stay and chat with us? [ laughter ] we got supreme court things and all kinds of things we will sit here and talk baseball. sending it back to you guys.'s back give us a preview of what else you are going to show us at the ballpark. >> reporter: apparently i didn't set this up, but our producer says i have to do some sort of tailgate segment. >> tough assignment. >> reporter: we will see you soon. >> okay. thank you. i bet they will be talking to larry until we turn them again. during the season the giants are doing something new. they have changed the reentry policy. >> the team will not allow internet privileges -- in and out privileges to keep people safe. >> we will have a report later but first we turned to you to ask what do you think of the change? do you think it makes sense? did you even know you could go in and out or maybe never think of leaving? let's check out our poll result with a quarter of you saying it makes sense and others say kind of a bummer. most of you say you do not even know you could leave and then 6% say you would never dream of leaving anyway. i love this comment from deborah who said don't like it. i have reinterred and have never felt unsafe. >> another set that only leave when i and there early for a giveaway. i am back before first pitch. >> allie rasmus, and this is you. how else are parents supposed to calm down an unexpected kid? what if you need diapers left in the car? >> i think it is a line with other stadiums around the country and we will bury bringing your responses. thank you for using our hashtag and we will talk more about the policy throughout the show. one hour ago neil gorsuch was sworn in as the newest supreme court justice. >> that is right. i do solemnly swear. >> he was sworn in at the rose garden by anthony kennedy and his wife of the family bible. afterward gorsuch said he was humbled by the experience. >> i will never forget that to whom much is given much will be expected and i promise you that i will do all my power to be a faithful servant of the constitution of this great nation. >> the rose garden ceremony was the second swearing-in. earlier this morning he was sworn in at a private ceremony with justice john roberts. in fremont an officer shot and killed a man after he was spotted in a car with a gun. ktuv's christien kafton has the latest. >> reporter: good morning. at this point the investigation seems to be winding down focusing in this parking lot here behind the walgreens with the deadly encounter came to an end. the fremont police say it all started around 11:45 last night when the police officer reported spotting a gun in a car at a 7- eleven. that officer called for backup and those officers arrived a few moments later and one of the men in that car had taken off on foot heading for a strip mall. the officer found that men in the parking lot behind the walgreens in both officers who encounter that man fired the weapons and now remind police are investigating the shooting. no word on whether the subject from the car had that gun at least one other person was detained as well and offers is looking to interview witnesses to see if any of the cameras in the area we have captured the encounter. we continue there was more vehicles here earlier this morning with many of his vehicles having been removed. the corner has now -- coroner has now removed the decedent. here waiting to interview the officers involved in the shooting later today and possibly this afternoon. back to you. >> still looks like not perhaps this afternoon for us to learn what may have prompted the officers to open fire. as of now they have not describe any threat have they? >> reporter: that is exactly right, gasia. that is one of the questions i had for the officers on the scene. did this individual have the weapon from the car and hasn't been recovered? we are waiting to talk with the fremont police to find out what the officers had to say. >> hopefully we can get more information. thank you. coming up still ahead a car company offering something special for parents and how it can help families with a crying baby picture the g-7 summit happening in syria and where a navy ship is heading right now. when i feel my best, i am my best. that's why i'm taking the activia probiotic two week challenge and adding activia yogurt with billions of its exclusive probiotic to my healthy routine. take the activia probiotic two week challenge with me. it works or it's free. tand, our adulte children are here. so, we save by using tide. which means we use less. three generations of clothes cleaned in one wash. those are moms. anybody seen my pants? nothing cleans better. put those on dad! it's got to be tide. shis it dna or olay? er than she should. new olay regenerist helps take years off your skin age so you can look younger. who needs dna when you have olay? new regenerist. the trump administration is facing security challenges as rex tillerson arise in italy. >> amy kellogg has more from the summit. >> reporter: rex tillerson is in italy beating with a can -- meeting with economic powers. retaliation for a gas attack carried out by the syrian government. the trump administration had been softening its stance but now there is no way he can remain in power pushing russia to end support for the assad regime. >> we rededicate ourselves to hold an account any who commit crimes against innocent. >> reporter: but they say it is a violation of international law working closely with iran to and shook the war on their terms. >> translator: our ultimate goal is to create conditions in which different groups can reach an agreement. >> reporter: secretary tillerson also meeting with the japanese counterpart. the show of force following recent provocation from north korea. the information is pushing china to end support for kim jong-un that some lawmakers say patient is all talk and no action. >> reporter: the best approach is dialogue, consultation and peaceful solution. >> it is unacceptable china would allow kim jong-un to continue. >> reporter: secretary tillerson travel to moscow for a meeting with russian ministers. amy kellogg, fox news. there was a protest march on the golden great range against the strike in syria. they are urging drivers to honk for peace. they questioned the u.s. involvement and want to know the long-term strategy. they won't the u.s. to offer sanctuary. the u.s. airstrike in the area is impacting gas prices. the national average is $2.43 a gallon and analysts say a list of prices go down expect caps prices to continue to go up. >> it doesn't cross your mind until you see the other day you are usually paying $30. >> i don't know what i will do because i am in school and then you have got to pay gas so i might as well just put the car away. >> san francisco has some of the highest gas prices in the country and in oakland it is $2.99 and in san jose $33. this morning students are being told to be careful after two sexual battery cases happened friday night along escondido road on the stanford campus. police are making themselves visible both women say they were groped by a bald, white man heifetz six -- 5'6". they are not saying if the incidents are related and female students we spoke with say they are can servant. >> it is scary thinking they could be just like a student in one of my classes. you just never know. >> i have gotten many emails regarding incidents on campus. i think it is definitely a problem that has yet to be addressed. >> denver police suggest students walk or run in pairs or groups. some problems with fires in oakland me because of computer issues. the oakland fire prevention bureau has an older database in the city has not paid for upgrades. they are in charge of building inspections and the ghost ship warehouse fire in december was not in the fire department's database and no one had ever conducted a formal inspection. a apology from united airlines after video showing a man being dragged off of the airplane. coming up what led to the incident and why the man said he could not miss this flight. >> another good woman missing. up next the similarity and what police have to say about disappearances. i was wondering if an electric toothbrush really cleans... ...better than a manual, and my hygienist says it does. but... ...they're not all the same. turns out, they're really... ...different. who knew? i had no idea. so, she said look for... ...one that's shaped like a dental tool with a round... ...brush head. go pro with oral-b. oral-b's rounded brush head surrounds each tooth to... ...gently remove more plaque and... ...oral-b crossaction is clinically proven to... ...remove more plaque than sonicare diamondclean. my mouth feels so clean. i'll only use an oral-b! the #1 brand used by dentists worldwide. oral-b. brush like a pro. we had the trading day up and here we are a little bit down with the dow jones losing 30 points. >> after the recent disappearance of a cube college student another has been reported missing. >> reporter doug johnson has more on the search. >> reporter: take a close look at the girl in this photo and elyse calvert who went by annie . >> she is incredibly sunny. >> reporter: her sister and mother say annie went missing wednesday night after taking a break of service at a church. >> five minutes after she had gotten up and walked out to take a break i went out to look for her. >> reporter: a family friend saw her walking in a church parking lot. >> she said are you doing okay? she said i am struggling with something and i just need a few minutes and then she never came back in there the security officers looked for any but came up with nothing. >> we did not see her on the property and be kept checking different buildings. >> after hearing about other missing persons cases in the area, the mother of annie is worried sick expect the detective assured me that i should not worry about that. however he does not know what happened to annie so i don't know he can make that conclusion. >> reporter: they are looking into her disappearance and they are frustrated the sheriff's office has listed annie as a runaway pick >> i'm not saying it is not possible but i insane it is unlikely. >> for some babies a car ride is the key to a good night sleep but instead of driving around the block ford has a new solution. they have developed the next motor dreams crib combining light, sound, and movement to mimic a car ride. so far ford has only created a test crib but the company is considering putting it into full-scale production. >> we have all been on those late-night drives. let's talk about some shoes getting a lot of laughs. steph curry released a limited edition shoe called the curry luck leather. a lot of people are mocking the design saying they look pretty old-fashioned. they were our recent -- release for south carolina men's ask about players to celebrate their first trip to the final four and they are limited to five pairs per customer so if you have to limit them that tells me they are going to be very popular. a high school student in sacramento had a prom night he will never forget. keeping up with the kardashians kylie jenner suppressed students by showing up at the junior prom saturday night as the date of a student named albert and she brought her best friend with her. apparently he landed the date after a girl at the school turned him down. coming up the giants home opener just a few hours away. what is your excuse for getting out of work? how far some fans are willing to go to see the game. we have a reminder for you before you walk into the stadium. we will go to the at&t park and explain one of the new rules this year. after a wet weekend in the bay area things are looking to get wet once again. >> thank you. we do have low clouds over us in a system that is hanging up with some partly cloudy skies. i think it is as low clouds and things will start to improve over the next couple of hours. it does look like mostly cloudy right now if you're heading out early but i think we will get that clearing out and then mostly sunny with upper 50s and low 60s. as far as i'm concerned, it is not raining and that is the key. a little low on the high with 91 the record high page you can see the cloud coverage producing light rain in northern sonoma and low clouds are all that is left but eventually they will get out around noon with another system taking out tomorrow. if you are up santa rosa north this could be a pretty active week. we did have a few 30s this morning with frost reported in the upper carmel valley and that is really impressive for this time of the year. there will be a little breeze but nothing too crazy. this system will still dragged across clouds on tuesday the probability of rain to the north. 50s and 60s on our temperatures which is what we will see all day long. friday and saturday looking good with sunday morning all right and the sunday evening will not. [ laughter ] make those plans early. >> thank you. it has been two months since san jose was hit hard by flooding along coyote creek. many said they had very little warning of the danger. this morning the mayor joined us and he said the city is already making changes so people get more information more quickly in a potential disaster. >> we are knocking on doors and not relying on electronic communications. were definitely changing what we are doing trying to ensure we have the information we need to better warn residents and that is work that will take several weeks or months expect the mayor wanted to remind people about the partnership with goodwill to help get cars to those people who lost anything. anyone who donates a car can use it as a deduction on taxes. crews are working to take down a large tree that came down on the east bay on the uc berkeley campus. it fell onto power lines and neighbors say it is likely the recent rains played a role in that tree coming down. we are waiting to get an update on a barge that capsized friday on the bay bridge. crews tell us there are no signs of oil leaking and the barge is capable of carrying 300 gallons of hydraulic fuel it but it is not known at last check the barge is still in the water with the coast guard saying it is impossible to know how much spilled. happening today the man accused of shooting a richmond woman will appear in court. lawyer mcbride will be charged with killing 29-year-old for sean franklin. he will be charged with first-degree murder mcbride driving up to the car of his ex-girlfriend and then shooting and killing her. her two sons were in the backseat of the car but were not hurt. mcbride remains in custody. united airlines is apologizing for overbooking a flight after a man who refused to give up his seat was dragged off of the plane. this was the video posted on twitter. passengers reacting at the chicago o'hare airport. united first asked for volunteers to give up seats and when no one volunteered they said they would randomly choose passengers. the man told the crew he was a doctor and have patience to see in the morning. he was eventually allowed back on board after a two hour delay. sergio garcia finally won his first masters beating justin rose trailing by 2 shots before roaring back. garcia closed it out in style with a birdie with the major tournament ending and and now he has a green jacket. the san jose sharks head north to play in canada and came two is on friday. it is a best-of-seven series and the sharks won the first two games and lost the final three jamie regular season. the a's had a rough day with joey coming with two ranges on base hitting a home run. the rangers score another run in the sixth hitting a single and it was the best day of the majors. they go to kansas city for the royals home opener today. >> today the home opener for the giants comes after a rough start on the road leading the way to a 5:03 victory. san francisco already had a 2-0 lead and a home run of his own. the padres starter scored in the sixth and they never catch up getting out without seeing select. >> we have been talking about this. starting this season the giants are changing the reentry policy at at&t park not allowing in and out privileges after a game begins. we spoke to fans about what they think of the changes. >> reporter: according to the giants the new policy is designed to ensure and safety pick you can still leave the stadium and come in but it has to be before the first pitch. all you have to do is show your ticket and then you can get in and out. again unlike last year you cannot do it after the game is underway. the giants say and set -- exceptions will be made for those with disabilities. in the past people were going to a nearby restaurant to avoid stadium pricing or maybe to grab a jacket or a blanket. but some say that can cause problems . >> and other people come out and smoke and get a couple of years -- beers and then it gets loud and obnoxious. >> if you have to stay here to get food at ballpark pricing. >> i get it. they want to get their money here as one everybody to get food here. >> reporter: the giants say it brings it in line with other policies in the bay area. the new rules also make it tougher for smokers who can no longer step outside for a quick cigarette. >> we have been asking you this question. what do you think of the change? do think it makes sense? living healthy is a balancing act. that's why i love light & fit greek nonfat yogurt. each delicious cup contains 12 grams of protein and 80 calories. it's nutrition that fits my healthy life. light & fit. do what fits you. especially in these of social media when people want to snapchat where they are. >> and a lot of companies have changed a sick policy and time of policy so they are one and the same me. >> here in san francisco they have found that giant fans are very loyal not just here in san francisco but also for traveling. for example, on the stubhub today the opener is the top- selling home opener game. the top-selling game for the kansas city royals later this season is when the san francisco giants go to town expects of the top-selling game of all home openers in the country? >> yes. do you see that interest at the same level? >> we actually see extreme interest this year. there is the third top-selling team so far this season. number two is the chicago cubs and the world series champions. >> how hard are they to come by? >> there are some tickets still available and they start at about $70. one of the things i love to remind people is stubhub has the best value filter so if you look at the little blue bar for each type of ticket we will tell you what kind of value you are getting. >> happy home opener day. thank you for joining us i can. coming up we will take a look at the rise of the golden state star warrior steph curry and up next jason appelbaum joins us. stay with us. what is this? it's like a little vanilla tastey thing. a vanilla bean? mmm. they chopped it up in little pieces. like this little dots. i found one! i found one! breyers natural vanilla. milk and fresh cream, and only sustainably farmed vanilla. very simple. mmm! breyers the good vanilla. it's simple. we're proud to use non-gmo sourced ingredients in some of america's favorite flavors. this is the author of golden. the miraculous rise of steph curry. >> let's send it over to jason appelbaum. >> reporter: this is a great read. i skimmed it but then i kind of got intertwined with some of these stories because you just take us through the last few seasons but first i want to ask you about the title. the miraculous rise of steph curry. what makes it miraculous? >> because we did not see him coming. most of these guys we knew about them at age 15 when they were high school phenomenons. in 2011 he was done with his ankles shot and then all of a sudden in 2014 he just burst on the scene. we do not see you guys come from nowhere to where he is. usually we know who they are and he just did it automatically . >> reporter: why didn't we see him coming? >> because he is small. he has had the ankle history and many people write him off his third year when he couldn't play. but mostly you just don't see small guys do this. the nba is about athleticism and size and he seems to lack in both of them so you usually don't get to these heights in these games without this. >> you take us back to when he was in middle school in toronto and the origins of that killer instinct. >> that is the crazy part. he looks nice but he has got the drive of jordan and he wants to embarrass you. he wants to dominate. he has taken on this altered ego. in toronto -- >> reporter: tells that story. >> he is in eighth grade and it is a little school and they are not supposed to be playing real basketball so he is really good and the coach starts playing real high schools. the coach is giving the concession speech like great job, fellows and steph said give me the fall we are about to win this game. >> so the actual nickname babyface assassin when was that given? it years ago? >> it was when they played georgetown and the beats georgetown it was a big upsets and he wrote in the article babyface assassin and it kind of developed from there. he was dominating major college programs. >> let me read just a little. that alter ego that would turn the kindest kid into a predator on the court. the babyface assassin would eventually come out more often. >> that sounds good to me. >> reporter: but so that dichotomy that is something we don't see coming just because of the way he looks and not only the dichotomy of the player but on the court you talk about how he had to decide between being a score and a passer. >> you know, when he came in he said i was a point guard and ever and said he is not a point guard. should he be off the bench? he was trying to prove he was a point guard. mark jackson helped him unleash that part of his game. he had to feel comfortable. when he was in high school most guys are in short restrictions and he had a shot minimum. they wanted him to take five shot a quarter and that was his goal but he felt selfish doing it and it wasn't until he figured out i am helping the team by dominating that he flourished. >> is he as good of a guy as we all think? he always seems so gracious. is he really the guy -- is this a fagade? >> steph is a good guy amongst good guys. usually you're comparing someone to the worst of the nba. he is a good guy with a bunch of good guys. he is kind. he cares about people. he is always respectful. he is always available. he just doesn't have bad moments at least not publicly. >> this man has been behind the scenes with steph the entire way. he is the coolest guy in the room when we do the interviews. so if you want some great stories journeys with steph curry marcus thompson the miraculous rise of steph curry. thank you. >> see you in the playoffs. >> thank you. you should know marcus has booksignings coming up tomorrow night at 7:00 and wednesday at noon at my alma mater. thursday night he will be at the so bookstore on college avenue and friday at 6 pm at the book passage building in san francisco. we are back out at at&t park for the home opener and poor mike milbach has to work on some ballpark food. >> this is the tease. we will see him and just a second. >> is he getting paid today? that is what i want to know. right now it is your chance to win a ktvu mug and we are taking entries until 1:00 this afternoon. this is what we are talking about and it is ktvu and we ask you to take a picture if you are the winner and send it over to us and we will share it here. >> one of the best parts about the park is the food and the bear. at&t park does not disappoint. for more let's send it back over to mike. >> reporter: hey, guys. we just had a fire engine show up so alex savidge just cannot to me and apparently there was little kitchen fire inside the ballpark. it seems like they got it under control but opening day so it is good to bring out everybody available. a lot of tailgaiting already going on and you brought a little bit of everything. >> this time of the day you want to have something nice and fresh and you are a baseball fan, right? >> if i could sink it on my computer at work i would. i'm going to go giants. deep down i'm a cubs fan and we finally had the miracle world series. >> last year the giants won that came -- game. >> we are talking about the now. i noticed some of the decorations. this is the kind of beer you want at the ballpark. really easy drinking comes out crisp and clean and exactly what you want with the hot dog and with your peanuts. >> of course. some people like to drink a little bit later with a day game . >> they call it hell or high water. this is ackley -- actually just up the street and then you have that nice fruity components when it gets really hot in the summer games this is going to be that nice rudy balance that you need -- fruit balance that you need. >> we have got peanuts anything one-stop shop for everybody here. were trying to find that perfect drink and not perfect marriage. we do have one more and this comes in this great 12-pac. you can watch the game as they make the playoffs run and we are talking about the everyday favorite beer. >> it is in the house. you just feel like you are in the ballpark no matter what. it is great. this is one of the best environment. alex has been working hard this morning. >> it sounds like what they had was a grease fire with an seven restaurant over on the -- mexican restaurant owner in left field here. it kind of worried people a little bit in the far department said anytime they have something inside at&t park they come and respond. and they did and they brought the house. >> i might as well shake your hand and say hello. >> introductions are being made. happy opening day to you. let's see if mike can top his record of five hotdogs. have a great home opener and we will see right back here for more news on the day coming up at noon. "gs 6?h.ñqjni breyers natural vanilla. milk and fresh cream, and only sustainably farmed vanilla. what is this? a vanilla bean? mmm! breyers the good vanilla. we use non-gmo sourced ingredients in some of america's favorite flavors. mmm! >> live from new york city, it's "the wendy williams show." [ applause ] one more time. >> wendy: it's going to be insane. [ applause ] >> now, here's wendy! [ applause ] >> wendy: hi! [ applause ] [ applause ] welcome. welcome. we're back. we're back. [ applause ]
