After a year and a half of this debating back and forth, starting with the primarilies, ross, your thoughts on the final president ial debate. Reporter good morning, mike and gasia and sal. Las vegas is known for its prize fights. Last night was no different. It was quite a match. Donald trump did not come out swinging. He came out on stage seem composed. It was his best performance yet. It quickly descended into a brawl all over the issue of abortion. Trump said that clinton would be okay with, quote, ripping a 9 month old baby out of a woman. And it went downhill from there. They sparred on the Sexual Assault allegations and russian and putin and of course the economy. The biggest moment is when trump refused to say he would accept any possible outcome of the election. For the good of the country, are you saying youre not prepared to i will tell you at the time. I will keep you in suspense. Well, chris, let me respond to that. Because that is horrifying. Reporter well, that was the key moment where critics say that donald trump lost the debate. The democrats quickly seized upon that in the spin room. Take a listen. I think tonight the voters saw two contrasts. A candidate who is prepared and one who remains unfit and tonight said that he may not accept the results. Why wouldnt your dad commit to the results of the election. If it was fair, it would be okay. They have been busting people in and breaking the law for 50 years. This is high level people, democratic operatives admitting to fraud. Admitting to fraud. Thats a problem. If theres fraud, that he should accept the results if there is fraud being committed . Reporter well, donald trump this morning still claiming victory after the debate. But the polling says differently. A cbs news poll says that Hillary Clinton won the debate by ten points. That poll taking in 13 key Battle Ground states. And my informal poll on twitter says that Hillary Clinton won the debate 80 to 20 . This morning, both are no longer in nevada. Donald trump heading to a Campaign Stop today in ohio. Hillary clinton heading back to new york. This is really interesting. Both will be appearing at the al smith fundraiser in new york that is put on by category rick charities. This is held every four years. These people that speak actually poke fun at each other. They will be required to do the same. It will be an interesting venue to see them in after all of these blows and punches thrown in las vegas last night. Ross, i have to ask you, it seemed pretty tense. They came out and didnt shake hands at the beginning or the end. When you were talking to trumps son, he seemed kind of wound up. It seemed pretty tense much was it tense inside the hall . Reporter it was very intense inside the hall, sal. I have to tell you that the Trump Campaign is really feeling the pressure. Theyre down the polls dramatically nationally and here in nevada theyre down as well. Theyre also losing now in arizona, if you can believe it. Arizona may go blue for the first time. They are saying that the media is causing a great part of this. That they are in coo hoots with Hillary Clinton. You can imagine what it was like in the spin room. Donald trump junior was the perfect example of how they are treating the media now. They are treating the media as an adversary. Thats what we saw in the spin room. It wont lighten up any time in the next 19 days. Did you see donald trump in the spin room himself after the debate . Reporter no, i didnt see donald trump. I dont believe he did come into the spin room. Neither of the candidates did. Interestingly enough though, donald trump left right away. But Hillary Clinton actually went to a watch party here in las vegas. So she continued to Campaign Even after that 90minute debate. The local stations covered that. It was interesting to see how jovial she was. She clearly believes she did well in the debate. You could see it on her face for the rest of the night. You never knew if they would pop in for one final surprise before hitting the campaign trail. Ross palombo live in las vegas on this thursday morning. Were joined by ktvus political analyst joe tuman. Donald trump trailing Hillary Clinton for the most part in polls. His part was to win the undecided, especially the women. Did he do it. No. The polls we should be looking at are Battle Ground states, not Just National polls because thats where the electoral math makes accepts. After the release of tapes, he was losing by 15 points in the states. Meaning that 15 is the gap between women supporting clinton as opposed to those supporting trump. And mr. Trump has also lost a little ground with his male audience in some of those states as well. The past right now, even before the debate last night for clinton to get to the 270 votes she needs is bigger. She has a lot of options. Mr. Trump has a narrow range of possibilities. He has to win a lot of big states like florida. He didnt do himself any good last night with the debate with women. Lets cut to the chase on this. Chris wallace did him a favor by not starting with the sex tapes. But he went to that question. The way that wallace worded the question about the the question of whether theres truthfulness with the allegations that had come forward suggested the thought that most people have, when trump denied that he didnt know these people and these things didnt happen or denied making comments in the past or saying about Miss Universe being an eating machine. He did say those things. The video is out there. For him to deny it for women voters increased that gap. Let me say this real quickly. Her comment and the moment of the debate last night was not his refusal to accept the results. The moment of the debate is when she said the reason people like donald trump belittle women is theyre trying to build themselves up. Every women knows the pain of what that feels like. Women know she was speaking about herself. She has been blamed not being able to relate herself on a national audience. Thats the reason part of the reason that people dont like her. In that moment she was empathetic. Women could look at her in that moment and relate to her. I think she is going to win this race primarily because women are going to stay with her in this race, despite of the fact that many dont like her. Let me ask you this, it has been almost a twoyear campaign. Earlier we saw mr. Trump saying things comments that would normally have sunk him. But they kind of brushed off him. He was like a teflon guy. Why now . Is it all of the comments are coming back to catch him . What is changing now that the comments and the things are catching up to him . Lets be honest about a couple things. In a primary you say outrageous things to get media attention. Donald trump did that better than anybody else. People like marco rubio and ted cruz, who are seasoned politicians didnt play the game well. Mrs. Clinton didnt get that much coverage in the primaries. Trump mandated all of that. The media helped him rise. No question about that. When you get that high and you say things in the general election, you have to be more specific. Were not going to let you get away with the generalizations. And were also going to be Fact Checking everything that you say in ways that maybe we werent early on. And as you go up, youre going to come down this way. If youre going to run for president or any office, you have to know in the modern era that there will be a recording of something that you said. If you have printed it or sent that message to somebody, there will always be a record of what you said. Those words stick around. And you have to own them in the end. So to continue to deny that save after you know you said it, just makes you not credible. Would you say that Hillary Clinton is winning this election because of Hillary Clinton or because of her candidate and who she is facing. I think she is winning this election in part because of who she is and her resume is going to matter with some voters. But not with less than half. She will win this election at this point unless something radically different happens in the next couple of weeks. Primarily because she has an opponent that has made unfixable mistakes. If it was somebody else running for the republican nomination, would this be different. I would suspect it would be different. Closer. Here is a better what i to think about this. Consider about the fact that when mrs. Clinton ran against president obama he challenged her on a number of fronts but is always respectful. Here is the other difference. He had a message that was beaming with hope. Right. And something positive about america. His whole back story was that. Now, ultimately he couldnt sustain that all the way through. But in that election, that is how he approached her. That was a race she thought she was going to have hands down. He was a newcomer to the process. The difference in tone and demeanor and the respectfulness towards her never made gender an issue. In this campaign, mr. Trump has been the opposite of that from day one. And he violated a cardinal in the debate. , you dont reinforce an existing negative. He didnt do anything to help himself with women voters. The driver a teenage boy is lucky to be alive after all of this. Janine de la vega is live in san jose with a look at all of the problems that the one crash caused. Reporter gasia, the boy is suffering from a broken leg. He is recovering from the hospital because of this. Take a look at this suv that he was driving. The top had to be cut off just to save him since he was trapped in there. Right next to that suv is the power pole that he hit. And as you can see, one southbound lane of almaden expressway is closed at this hour. Just before 11 30 last night, the 16yearold lost control and slammed into the power pole. Power was knocked out to 3100 people. He was stuck in the suv for three hours. And because it was such a dangerous situation with the pole down and trying to get emergency crews to him, thats why it took so long. Now, pg e restored power to all customers earlier this morning. But theyre going to be bringing in a new power pole and installing it. And that could take all day. Now, the suv will be towed one all of the pg e crews clear out. And then all of the southbound lanes along almaden expressway, the southbound lanes, should open up. Again, that could take all day which will take you into the afternoon commute. Right now this is the opposite direction. For the afternoon, everybody is going to be going this way. So that might cause problems. Back to you. Thank you. Oakland Police Arrested one of their own officers. He is ryan waterhouse. He was arrested and released on bail. Police released a statement a couple minutes ago that said he was suspected of obstruction of justice and prostitution related offenses. Once the investigation is completed, the case will go to the Alameda County d. A. s office for review. They say this is not connected to the Sexual Misconduct allegations against a group of oakland officers. San francisco fire investigators are looking for the cause of an Early Morning 4 alarm fire in the castro district. It forced 7 people to run for their lives and also injured three firefighters. It started in a threestory building and then spread to two other buildings. Five adults and two children had to flee. No one was hurt. However, three firefighters were hurt. Theyre expected to recover. On top of that, a gas line broke. The pg e crews shut it down. Its still not clear if that broken gas line caused the fire. And San Francisco police have now identified four suspects in Tuesdays School shooting where four students were wounded in what police call gang related. And they expect to arrest all of the suspects within the next couple of days. The shooting happened in the parking lot of june jordan high school. 4 teenagers were hurt, including a 14yearold girl shot in the hip. Her family says she is an honor student and never been in trouble. Three 15yearold boys were the other shooting vick tips. Reportedly one of them was the intended target. He will talk about his experience being in the middle of that fire storm. Woman how do we protect them from 4 billion in new cuts to california schools . Man vote yes on proposition 55. Woman prop 55 doesnt raise taxes on anyone. Man not on working californians, not small businesses. No one. Woman instead, prop 55 simply maintains the current tax rate on the wealthiest californians. Woman vote yes on prop 55 to help our children thrive. It has now been 25 years since one of the worst fire disasters in u. S. History. 25 people were killed, 150 others were hurt and nearly 3500 homes were incinerated in the 1991 Oakland Berkeley hills fire storm. At 5 30 today a memorial will be held at the Gateway Emergency Preparedness Center in berkeley hills. Ktvus rob roth covered that fire when it happened 25 years ago. At one point and he his photographer were trapped by the flames when they were led to safety by an oakland fire chief. Here is that story told by rob back in 1991. Reporter this was the actual beginning of the fire, the day before. Saturday afternoon, october 19th. Cameraman nick and i were on our way to the calwashington Football Game when we saw fire trucks racing into the hills. We followed. On the top, they want to extend the line. Reporter there were no wins that day and that helped the fire from getting worse. A helicopter hit a bulls eye and the fire appeared out. No damage done. At the time if seemed barely worth mentioning. On sunday we found firefighters looking for hot spots. I had Something Else on my mind. This was also the due date for my wife and my first baby. I was hoping to finish early if case she went into labor. A crew was dealing with a flare up down on buckingham boulevard. Flips were poking up but nothing that the firefighters couldnt handle. But in what seemed an instant, everything changed. Winds seemed to come in from all directions. Strong wind, swirling winds, the kind that blows sand and dust in your eyes. It felt like someone was pouring gasoline from the sky. Then came the sound. You could not hear anything above the sound. It is my most vivid memory from that day. By 11 00, smoke began turning day into night. A wall of smoke had sealed off everything to our right, including our car. The fire in full rage was stretching out to our left. Behind us was a shear drop. And the fire was tumbling down towards us and getting hotter. Nick and i looked at each other. In that look we came to the realization, there was no way out. I remember saying to myself, this cant really be happening. Not on the day my baby is due. At that moment, a small fire truck with four firefighters came out of the smoke looking like bogart in casa casablanca. The chief said hop on. The firefighters started evacuating people along the hillside. A minute or so after we got on the truck the man who invited us to hop on got off to help frightened residents. We never saw james riley again. Did anybody find riley. That night, police found the body of james riley near the body of a woman he was trying to save. That was his car.
