Driver told police that he accidentally pressed on the gas and accelerated and he ended up driving, crashing through the front windows here of lees sandwiches. And he actually put a hole in the wall and did damage to the business next door which appears to be some sort of
Sandwich Shop
as well. So two different businesses now have damagement you can see theyre cleaning up the glass right now. I asked police if there were any drugs or alcohol involved and they said no. This is just an accident of somebody pressing on the gas. Nobody was injured here. It was sufficient a solo driver. It was fortunate because this place just opened up at 6 00 a. M. And this accident happened about ten minutes later. Only employees were in there. We havent had a chance to speak to any of them. The good news while there is a lot of damage, nobody was injured. Back to you in the studio. We see that cleanup is underway. Thank you, jeanine. The time is 7 02. Lets check your weather. Hopefully everything is nice and calm weekswise. Yesterday was pretty cold. Yeah. And gray and rain. Not much in marin county. But not too shabby. Most locations cup most locations picked up a little bit of rain. A system moving into the
Pacific Northwest
that is allowing the cloud cover to hang around. Top of the morning to you. Top of the morning to you. Only a. 01 in the last 24 hours. There was decent rain, especially northward. Sea ranch,. 44. Port rays, a quarter of an inch. Hillsborough,. 14. I know they had half an inch of rain. There were half an inch in northern mendocino county. A little bit left over. But another system has to move through. 50s and 60s. Tomorrow will be a lot cooler. There are a lot of mid50s near santa cruz. Except for low clouds and high clouds and morning clouds, it will be mostly sunny. 60s and 70s. Sal, what do you have for us at 7 03. A lot of slow traffic. Im not surprising you by saying that. Lets look at what we have at the bay bridge toll plaza. The traffic is backed up for 25 to 30 minutes. Nothing out of the ordinary here. But you will see slow traffic as you drive through. Were looking at a commute where highway 24 is slow. And so is 680. 680 from 242 or so. And highway 24, highway 4 had a minor accident in pittsburgh. That commute is behind schedule. As we look at the east bay commute, you will see the traffic is also busy on 880. A little slower in san leandro heading down to 92. San mateo bridges are filling in. And pretty much everywhere. We had an accident in the counter commute direction eastbound 588 livermore. That is not affecting too many people. But if that is your commute, add extra time. 7 04. Lets go back to the desk. Thank you, sal. Donald trump is talking about the
New York Times
report of his almost 1 billion tax loss and the possibility that he may not have had to pay federal taxes for 18 years. Ive been saying from the beginning of this campaign how ridiculous, complex and, yes, unfair the tax system it is. It is an unfair system. And so complex that very few people understand it. Fortunately i understand it. Understand it. Now, trump said he legally used tax laws to his benefit. His campaign issued a statement saying that the documents that were sent anonymously to the
New York Times
were illegally obtained. Now,
Hillary Clinton
also talked about donald trump not paying federal income tax. In a
Campaign Appearance
in ohio clinton said its important to recognize what paying zero taxes means for the country. Zero taxes means zero for our vets, zero for our military, zero for grants to send young people to college. Zero for health. Zero for education. Ro for education. Now, clinton says she and her husband have released their tax returns and that they pay a lot of taxes. She says she is grateful they are able to contribute to the nation. Wiki leaks founder said today that his organization will publish 1 million documents related to the u. S. Election before the november 8th election date. He spoke by way of a video link at an event in germany, marking the 10th anniversary of the groups founding. He remains in the
Ecuador Embassy
in london. He was granted political asylum. He didnt say what documents they would be releasing but in addition to the u. S. Elections, theyre also related to three governments. The documents would be released starting next week. The focus will be on clinton and trumps running mates. Yeah. Tim kaine and mike pence will face off in their first and only debate. Joining us in the studio is joe, thank you for coming back. Good morning. Thanks for joining us. I would like to pop up an ad released by the republican tar getting tim kaine. Lets show you some of that. Long before tim kaine was in office, he consistently protected the worst kinds of people. After being paroled for murdering a 17yearold girl. Youre saying this ad is reminiscent to what voters saw decades ago. Yeah. If you watch the ad in its entirety, the person that comes on camera after this in a mug shot is percy walton, a man convicted of triple murder when kaine was governor and whose
Death Penalty
was commuted by kaine. That was his judgment. The
Death Penalty
to life in prison. The ad, the tone in the background, even the far tores voice is reminiscent of an ad call a
Willie Horton
ad run in the 1988 campaign against in the
Bush Campaign
. He was accused of a prison furlough program, a federal court had implemented and forced on his predecessor by the way who was a republican. He was just carrying out the court order that allowed prisoners to go out on weekends to visit families to get used to living in a community again. Unfortunately in one of the situations, a man named william horton, his name was never willie, the ad called him that because it sounded like a slave name. He escaped and raped the wife and killed the husband. The victims were white. Mr. Horton was african american. The ad was denounced as racist but had a huge impact on the campaign. This ad is similar to that. Coming on the eve of the debate was designed to raise questions under the guise of under criminal justice and the righteousness of the
Death Penalty
it injects race back into the campaign that will not be positive. Youre saying that the ad features a criminal who happens to be africanamerican and thats what jumped out at you. If you go back, you can find this on youtube. It is called the turnstill ad, the original ad. The construction is similar to what youre watching here. Africanamerican voters and most people in 1988 were revolted by what they saw in that. The
Bush Campaign
said that the ad in 1988 never mentions
Willie Horton
. But the only person who makes contact with the camera in that ad was africanamerican. And news stories were carries his name. So when viewers watched that remembered that. This ad is very much the same. It is relevant for tonight because i guess that mike pence is going to go after tim kaines record in government. Do you think he will bring up this incident in the ad. I think he will talk about him being light on criminal justice and light on the
Death Penalty
and things like that. It also attacks kaine for providing legal representation to those accused in murder and appeals after being convicted as if somehow thats an error in judgment. If youre a lawyer, youre supposed to defend the class that you have. This deal sort of is injecting race. If you watch the video carefully, the africanamerican who is shown is shown in a mug shot which is playing to stereo types about black males. I dont think we need that in this election. Do you think that people have made up their idea about these vp picks . They are new to most people. I dont think so unless you live in an area where they have personally campaign. He has spent months trying to explain what donald trump said the night before or the day before. This will be his opportunity to speak. In style, hes a real contrast with tim kaine who is energetic, kind of like an excitable puppy but also a very happy person. Pence is more serious and provides the gray hair. Both have been former governor and have relationships with people in congress. Their job tonight in some ways is to reassure voters, both of them, if anything should happen to the main candidates that they can step in and fill that void. We know in our lifetimes, this has happened. Sometimes president s dont finish their terms and being number two is an important pick. Right. Voters will pay some attention to this. Joe has a busy morning ahead. Yes. We will bring you back in the 8 00 hour to talk about the vp debate. Thank you for joining us. Lets move to the question of the day. It is about the
Vice President
ial debate tonight. If elected tim kaine and mike pence would be first in line to take over as president if anything happened to their running mate. Does that

In 20 minutes, we will actually break down the numbers and talk about the freeways that in fact do see the most congestion in the bay area. Yeah. I can show you some of that right here right now. This is one of the commutes here at the bay bridge. A lot of slow traffic trying to get on the bridge. We will give you drive times and give you some of the worst commutes going on right now. Still some mostly cloudy, partly cloudy skies. But the trend is for a little bit of warmth today. We will have your tuesday numbers coming up. Dollars to defeat it. Vets in voting yes on prop 61. Elimination Game tomorrow night. Its win or you go home for the giants and mets. The giants had to win a wild card game two years ago and they did and they went on to the world series. We know how that ended. Joe fonzi has a look at the playoff history of the team. The giants are champions in the
National League west. Six years ago, the giants needed a win against the padres on the final day of the season to clench the
National League west. They went on to defeat the rangers for their first championship since moving to
San Francisco. Two years later, the giants won three straight
Elimination Games in cincinatti and three straight against the cardinals before sweeping detroit in the world series for their second championship in three years. Its back at the wall. And then in 2014, the giants were the last team in the playoff field. That season ended in a thrilling 7game world series win over the kansas city royals. Whether the names are huff or travis, this group of giants knows its a different game in october. And when it comes to the playoffs, its just about getting in. It has not been smooth but weve gotten just enough wins to sneak us into the post season. And now were on the same page as everyone else. We have a good team. We were confident the whole time that we would get into the post season. We had faith we could do this. We never got down on ourselves. So now just like 2014, the giants hit the road for a one game wild card. Win and they move on. Lose, and theyre finished. This time its in new york. And like two years ago in pittsburgh,
Madison Bumgarner will be the guy who takes the mound. We have been there before with him on the mound. Were a confident group. We dont think of ourselves as underdogs. We know recordwise and know the mets have a better record at home. We like that. Thats what you would expect every team in the playoffs to say. But until the giants have lived for three world series championships in five years, no one will discount their chances to make it four in seven. Joe fonzi, ktvu fox 2. The

Plus reporter and we now have new research to confirm what many of us already knew, traffic is getting worse around the bay area. We will tell you how much worse and we will tell you about the worst commute in the bay area coming up. [music] slow ride taking it easy on 80 in the east bay. Inching your way to work and school this morning. For years we have said that interstate 80 along the maze is the worst commute in the bay area. However, can you believe its been bumped from the top spot. Amazing. Amazing. I cannot believe it. We will bring in alex savage in a minute to talk about the new worst traffic spot in the bay area and get you caught up on todays news. This
Tuesday Morning, october 4th. Im gasia mikaelian. And im dave clark. We get to miss all of that because were in here. Steve is here to talk about our weather. It looks pretty nice today. Yesterday cloudy and cool. Rain to the north. Northern napa and lake county. But it was a cloudy, cool day. Mostly cloudy skies right now. You can see a little bit of low clouds there. Higher clouds. And if youre stuck in that traffic, at least its not raining. Thats the good news. Dont see any for a while. It will be warmer today. After yesterdays 58, burr, 62 in the city. We will go 65. Livermore 65. Santa cruz 68 to 72. A little bit of rain on the north coast. Very little. Not much. This system plowing into the
Pacific Northwest. Its hard to warm up that much. The front has gone through. 50s on the temps. Cloud cover holding these up. North bay temps trying to find 40s. Kelseyville at 49. Mid50s for most including mill valley. Partly cloudy and partly sunny. More sun later on. 50s along the coast and 70s for inland temps there. Sal. 7 32. Where is it a slow ride . Its a little fog hat here. Thats fog hat. On a tuesday, its good with fog hat. Thank you. Its slow in the south bay, steve. You know what, its slow on most of knees commutes im these commutes im about to show you. Were starting with the east bay. Were going to get to 280 in a moment. Were starting with highway 24. And you can see traffic is going to be busy through la fayette and also in orinda. Look at 280 here. 280 is very slow through 680, getting up all the way into cupertino. Thats not the only one. 85 and 101 are slow as well. Lets move to the bridge where we had problems there. We had earlier issues. That is a little better than it was. Just the whole commute, san mateo bridge, an accident. And 880 is jam packed. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza. If we can take a look at that. Traffic is going to be busy there at the toll plaza as you get there. It is backed up for a 25 to 30 minute delay. This is not be as bad as yesterday. Yesterday the rain made things slow. But it is pretty slow. A new
Study Confirms what many drivers have suspected. Traffic around the bay area is indeed worse. For more on that, lets go to alex savage who is live in berkeley with the commute that is really slow. Reporter sal, good morning to you. Certainly it is not your imagination. Things have bogged down in a big way on bay area roads in the last few years. It turns out the time we all spend sitting in slow traffic is up 70 . If you can believe that. Since 2010. Thats according to new figures out from the metropolitan transportation commission. A live look above the east shore freeway. You dont want to be in that mess. This commute, westbound in the morning along 80 between hercules and
San Francisco is the second worst commute. Just the second worst commute in the entire bay area. The top honor, if you want to call it that, is the evening ride outside of
San Francisco heading east towards the bay bridge along 80 and 101 in the city. Then the interstate 80 commute holding down the number two spot. Then the third worst commute in the entire bay area is the morning drive from 680 from about san jose to cupertino. And in fourth place on that list, the evening commute along southbound 101 from sunnyvale to south san jose. Drivers we spoke to this morning say they are heading out the door earlier and earlier trying to beat the rush. If you leave early enough, youre okay. If you leave at 6 00, youre bad. Thats why youre leaving im trying to get out of here. Were holding you up. A minute or two wont hurt me. Thats why you do the ride early. Yeah. Leave at least 30 to 15 minutes early in order to beat the traffic. Now, researchers involved in the study say growth in the bay area and the improved job market are some of the factors at play here. And part of the reason that traffic is getting worse. More and more commuters hitting the road. There are no such
Things Considered rush hour. The morning commute extends further into the day. The evening commute begins earlier and earlier and extends later into the evening in fact. And along the east shore freeway, according to this study, there is no longer any sort of hisdaybreak, gasia. You used to be able to hit the east bay freeway at 11 00 or noon and might have a chance. According to thed study, the east shore interstate 80 congested pretty much the entire day from early in the morning to late in the evening. Yep. All right. Thank you so much, alex. Police are now saying that an
Armed Robbery we reported on last week that left two people injured may be connected to a series of other robberies in contra costa county. Communicating with each other to see if the crimes in fact are linked. Reporter well, gasia, were talking about six armed robberies during a fourday period last week throughout contra costa county. In each, the robbers confronted the victims in the driveway of their own home or in one case in the victims garage. Here is a map showing where the crimes happened. The
Armed Robbery in orinda received the most attention because it was the only incident where someone was shot. The carol brown was the victim. She was shot. Her husband was pistol whipped during the robbery. Both are expected to recover. When they pulled into the driveway of their own home, they were attacked by three
Armed Robbers. Now, people who live in the area say this type of brazen crime is not what they expect to happen in the community. The violence. People want to feel like theyre safe in their community. When somebody gets pistol whipped and somebody is shot a couple of times, especially someone who is giving back to the
Community Like a school board member, that is a cause for concern. Reporter the police chief says its unclear what connection these crimes have or there may not be a connection at all. They are looking into it. The similarity between the cases, quote, certainly has not gone unnoticed and communication between our agencies, talking about the various
Police Agencies looking into it, absolutely has taken place. Now, another similarity in some of the robberies is the type of vehicle used. A lot of the victims at least in three cases reported to police that the three
Armed Robbers got away in a white sedan. These are questions that we have for the police chief. We are hoping to get in touch with him later this morning. We have reached out to him and hoping to hear back from him this morning. Thank you so much. The time is 7 39. Overnight you angry protests in the streets in los angeles in response to two

Earlier this morning, ktvus own jeanine actually saw one as she was waiting to go on tv and talk with us. The pigs have been tearing up lawns and yards on
Running Springs road in southeast san jose. People who live there say the pigs are really active at night. Theyre coming from this ranch land right across the street. A few years ago, neighbors reinforced a fence with barbed wires but think that the pigs found a hole. As it is getting more and more dry, there is less food out there so theyre looking for grub. Theyre looking for worms. The experts, licensed trappers say those pigs are dangerous. Do not try to confront them. They also say putting up a temporary plastic or metal fence around your lawn may help to keep them away. Happening today, the big

But we still have plenty of slow traffic as we check in interstate 80, the east shore freeway. Now more than an hour to drive from the bridge to the macarthur maze. Part of it has been a couple of incidents. Most of is just volume. A lot of people on the road. Traffic will be busy as you drive through. No major crashes along the stretch. We certainly have slowdowns that look major to me. When its more than an hour, that is not a good commute obviously. Lets go to the bay bridge toll plaza. You can see the traffic here is about a 25minute delay. Remember, 25 minutes added on top of what you have just commuted from vallejo, if you drive from vallejo to
San Francisco, it is taking about 90 minutes to do that run. That doesnt count the time that youre in the city going to your job or looking for parking. Big, big nascar race this weekend in charlotte. I dont think that happens. And then also what happens in the northeast, there could be some torrential rain heading up that way late in the weekend as well. Plenty going on in the next five to seven days. Sandwich Shop in san jose got quite a scare after a car crashed into their building. This happened just after 6 00 this morning in a strip mall. Jeanine is there now. Jeanine, did you talk to the owner of that shop. Reporter yeah. I did. She said that the employees didnt even know what hit them. They thought it was an earthquake because they heard a loud boom. Take a look. There used to be a glass here. Look, no more glass. Completely taken down. They cleaned up all of the shattered glass. The car went into the wall. So theres a huge hole there. You can actually see into the other shop next door. Now, here is what it looked like shortly after the crash happened in the strip mall here on story road near mclaughlin. The driver of the honda accord said hes was parking in front of lees sandwiches but accidentally pushed on the gas instead of the brake. The car plowed through the doors and the wall that i showed you. Employees were inside but no customers yet. Fortunately no one was injured. We did speak to the brandnew owner of the
Sandwich Shop who is pretty understanding. No. Im not upset. I feel sorry for him. What happened is not thats not what he wants. So i told him dont worry. The insurance will take care of it. It has happened to me. This is the fourth time that it has happened. Not at this location but other locations. It has happened twice. Yeah. Reporter the owner owns another lees sandwiches on mckee avenue and cars have come crashing into it twice before. They put up a pole to prevent that from happening now. Now the owner is going to ask the landlord to do the same thing at this location. We did ask police if the driver was under the influence of any alcohol or drugs and they said no. It just appears to have been an accident. But both of these businesses here, lees sandwiches as well as another vietnamese
Sandwich Shop next door looks like they are saying open. They cleaned up fast and customers are coming in and they have put up plywood and theyre going to have repairs done as soon as possible. They are still both open for business. At least no loss for them as far as getting customers. Back to you. Thank you, jeanine. Now to politics. Republican president ial nominee donald trump commenting on the
New York Times report of his nearly 1 billion tax loss and the possibility that he may not have had to pay federal taxes for 18 years. Ive been saying from the beginning of this campaign how ridiculous, complex and yes, how unfair the tax system is. It is unfair. And so complex that very few people understand it. Fortunately i understand it. Trump said that he legally used tax laws to his benefit. His campaign issued a statement saying that the documents sent anonymously to the times were illegally obtained. Hillary clinton also talked about donald trump not paying federal income tax. In a
Campaign Appearance in ohio she said its important to recognize what paying zero taxes means for the country. Zero taxes means zero for our vets, zero for our military, zero for pel grants to send young people to college, zero for health, zero for education. Clinton says she and her husband have released their tax returns and that they pay a lot of taxes. She said she is grateful that they are able to contribute to the country. Wiki leaks ceo said that they will publish one million documents related to the election before the election date. He spoke via video link at an event in germany. He remains in the
Ecuador Embassy in london where he was granted political asylum. He did not say what the documents are that they will be releasing. He said in addition to the election, they are related to three governments. He said the documents would be released starting next week. The focus will be on clinton and trumps running mates tonight. Right. Vice president ial nominees are facing off in their first and only debate. Joe is joining us now. Im sure that you expect the tax issue to come up right off the top. I would think so. And given the mantra that was coming from the republican party, other surrogates for mr. Trump yesterday and the day before in attacking the
New York Times, they tried to turn this into a positive already. He is a good businessman. Hes a smart guy and nothing that he did were illegal. He was working with the laws to take advantage of the system. And so, you know, trump is using this as well to try to suggest that that gives him a better insight into the unfairness of the tax system, even though he has taken advantage of it. I would look for in pence to do some of that tonight as well. I really think that pence would rather, instead of defending trumps actions in the past, he would rather distinguish himself from his running mate, running opponent rather. And i think that kaine will try to do the same thing as well. The testimony contain to attack the main candidates will be overwhelming tonight. Do you think one of his jobs is to offset a lot of the questions about
Hillary Clintons trustworthiness. Yeah, i think so. To a degree. Both candidates, clinton and trump have high negatives. Where clinton is concerned, trustworthiness and truthfulness are the big issues. And so when those arguments are made tonight, i suspect that he will be very strong in defending her. But as i said, i think at the same time, both of these candidates need to nobody is going to win this debate. The way that youre successful will judge us not by winning but by success is if you can reassure voters if you are the person in the number two spot, they should feel comfortable with you succeeding the president if something happens to the person in office. That has happened. Weve had people leave office by death or criminal reasons or in advance of that. And the next person in has to step up. So we want as voters to know that that person in the number two position is capable. Weve had candidates in the past who had reflected poorly on the candidates who selected them. Like sarah palin or dan quail by way of example.
