make it onto the span. it's backed up for a 20, 25 minute delay. l you will see that traffic is going to be busy. also some slow traffic this morning on the bridge itself getting into the city. we don't see a lot of slowing on 880 yet northbound as you drive past the coliseum. you have seen a couple issues on southbound 880, but nothing major yet as you head south toward hayward. we have seen some slow traffic on the commute through fremont. as a matter of fact, i want to show you the newest freeway from hayward to fremont. a couple of things have popped up on 880 and traffic is going to be busier than normal heading south. at 7:02, let's head back to the desk. san pablo's police department is grieving the loss of a fellow officer. william zenk was killed in a motorcycle accident yesterday. the officer is being remembered as having made a big difference to the community especially by some of its younger members. >> reporter: good morning, gasia, if you take a look, we are waiting for the lobby to open. if you look inside, you can see that there's a memorial set up to officer ken zenk as he was noun here to the officers. -- known here to officers. the officers beginning to come to grips with their grief over the loss. he served as a school resource officer at helm middle school. grief officers are scheduled to be at helms as students say good-bye to the 53-year-old officer. according to chp, he was headed to the school on his harley davidson motorcycle riding between a nissan pickup truck and a big rig when he collided with the pickup truck and fell under the big rig. that crash shut down parts of interstate 80 for hours, and you might have seen that yesterday on mornings on 2. students and administrators and those who worked alongside officer zenk say he reached out to at risk teens taking on an active role to advocate for the teens he protected. >> every day he used to ask me, are you okay because like i had approximate, and he used to like -- problems, and he used to like support me and tell me what i should do. >> reporter: san pablo's police chief spent the day with zenk's family. zenk serve instead el cerrito before switching to san pablo. he has won numerous awards and students and fellow officers believe what set him apart is the ability to connect and help children and teens. children are pushing to have september 29th overnight, police in fremont want your help in they're search for a possible witness to a hit-and-run crime. they released video from an ac transit bus taken around the time of the crash wednesday night. investigators say this man may have information on the crash that critically injured a woman. now, it happened on fremont boulevard near chapel way. the man appears to be in his 40s and was reportedly driving a light colored, possibly gold toyota camry. if you have any information, call fremont police. well, now we have an updated report on yesterday's deadly train crash in hoboken, new jersey. federal investigators are shifting through the wreckage to figure out what happened before that speeding train smashed through a concrete and steel bumper and then slammed into a train station. a 34-year-old woman who was waiting at the platform was killed by falling debris. she had just dropped off her 1- year-old daughter at day care. more than a hundred people were also hurt in that crash. the ntsb will try to figure out how fast the train was going at the time of the crash. we're collecting everything on the operations, on the human performance, the track, the survivability of this train. we'll be looking at all of that. >> now, as part of the investigation, the ntsb will examine whether a system known as positive train control should have been installed and maybe might have prevented the crash. the system is designed to prevent accidents by overriding the engineer and automatically slowing down or stopping trains that are going too fast. >> now to new from overnight news, a violent demonstration against tuesday's deadly officer involved shooting in el cajon. that was the sound and the scene as police fired flash bangs to push back the crowd of protesters. a group of 50 to 75 protesters blocked a major intersection in the san diego suburb last night. some demonstrators threw bottles at police and smashed car windows. protesters also got into shoving matches with drivers and motorcyclists. one man was knocked off his motorcycle, then assaulted. this was the third straight night of protests, following the shooting that claimed the life of alfred alongo. his mother spoke publicly for the first time about the death of her sign son. >> i'm telling you the truth, my son is a good loving young man. only 38 years old. >> along o's family is upset that police released a single still image from cell phone video taken of the shooting. the family wants the entire video released. the picture we just showed you shows him pointing an object at police who then shoot and kill him. that object turned out to be an electronic cigarette. a tulsa police officer is expected to plead not guilty today when she makes her first court appearance in the shooting death of an unarmed african-american man. betty shelby is charged with first-degree manslaughter in the death of terrence crutcher two weeks ago. prosecutors say she acted unreasonable when she shot crutcher after she found his abandoned vehicle on the street. she told investigators she feared for her life. according to an affidavit, another officer told shelby he had a taser ready to deploy. shelby says she experienced what doctors call auditory exclusion and never heard the comment and didn't realize other officers were with her. time is 7:08. police at sonoma state university investigating a sexual assault on campus last week. it happened last saturday night about 9:00 during a country music concert at the green music center. police say the victim did not know the man who assaulted her, and he is described as a white man in his early 20s, about 6 feet tall, with a thin athletic build. if you have any information call sonoma state university police. san jose math teacher was arrested on suspicious of sexually assaulting a student. 64-year-old david graham was arrested at harker school. police say the alleged crimes occurred on the campus in 2011 2011th 2007, and the alleged victim was 13 years -- campus in 2007. and the alleged victim was 13 years old. graham has been put on administrative aide leave. a football team has been thrown for a big loss. this was the delta youth football league, announced it's dropping the hayward aggies, it's a decision that affects nearly 90 young players. the league commission tells ktvu they have failed to meet minimum player requirements during the past five years but parents point out many of the children who play for the aggies come from low income and single parent homes. >> it's hard out here, parents have one it points to a bigger problem. we are not dealing well in society with repetitive offenders. >> police say diaz is banned between 18th street between castro and hartford for the next six months and offer new commuter ferry service on the bay. state regulators approved it yesterday. now, one of the companies called prop expects to start operating daily ferry service between berkeley, emeryville, redwood city in san francisco at the beginning of next year. another company tide line marine group says they will offer ferry service between berkeley and san francisco beginning the end of october. there is no ferry service between berkeley and san francisco. governor jerry brown signed off on $10 million in funding to get california's earthquake warning system up and running. >> earthquake light shaking, expected in 59 seconds. >> the office of emergency services says the money will almost double the number of sensors statewide to about 1100. an early warning could provide precious seconds for trains to slow down, school children to duck and cover, and for automated systems to shut down gas lines. the warning system called shake alert is expected to be in operation within the next year or two. >> time is 7:24, one of oakland's first new housing developments in years is generating a lot of interest in west oakland. it is called station house west. take a look. it will have a little bit slow, but compared to other days, 35 minutes, those are summer times there. that's what it was like in summer. sure, it's slow in places, but earlier this week, we had delays of almost an hour, so i'll take 35 minutes from the carcinas bridge to the macarthur maze, average speed, 33 miles per hour. when you get to the bay bridge, you'll see a 10 or 15 minute delay at the toll plaza. looks more like 20, 25, looking at my sensors sensors, it kind of jives with that. 20, 25 minutes before we get on the bridge. a lot of slow traffic on 880 southbound as you drive from 92 hayward down to fremont. a couple crashes in the way. even if they are now on the shoulder, it's still very slow. 7:31, let's go back to the desk. in just the last hour, cal fire released new numbers on how big that fire is, the one that's burning in the santa cruz mountains. the loma fire has burned more than 4300 acres. it is still 34% contained. ktvu's janine de la vega, you're out there live with more information. good morning. >> good morning, dave, we are at the top of loma, and you can't see smoke up here. we're told it is underneath marine layer. what you can see, though, is the burned area from the loma fire. you can see it's right underneath where the tv and radio transmission towers are. now, fire crews that we ran in told us that the fire laid low last night. there were cooler temperatures, and that really helped. now, we did pass cruise as i mention -- crews, as meaningsed, in case the -- as i mentioned in case the fire jumps up. people who live in the mountain communities who had to evacuate from their homes, they met with cal fire at loma prieta elementary school. one woman says she's not sure if her home has been destroyed but her friends have lost everything. >> we just have nothing. their pets were in their house. we just lost everything. and we're not out of danger. >> reporter: firefighters are preparing for the worst because wind gusts up to 30 miles an hour are expected this weekend. right now, crews on the ground here, they are holding containment lines. they are hoping to get things under control. the fire is still burning in steep terrain that's not accessible. we have been told by cal fire that they have seen residents, they have been driving up here on these roads, trying to check on their homes. not sure how far they're going to get, but we are going to continue to keep going down the road to see if we can find more homes that see the damage. you are looking at a live picture of the marine layer and and maybe once that lifts or clears, then maybe we will start seeing smoke. but we certainly did start seeing or smelling smoke when actually we were lower on the mountains. so we're just going to have to see what we run into once we lines in sonoma county. the saw mill fire is 100% contained. it started five days ago in a remote area. it burned more than 1600 acres. two minor injuries were reported, but no buildings were damaged. investigators are still looking for the cause of that fire. 7:34. new this morning, president obama and other world leaders gathered in jerusalem for the funeral of former israeli president, shimon peres. other international dignitaries include prince charles, french president frances holland, and peres died earlier this week from complications of a stroke. president obama gave the final eulogy and talked about the life of shimon peres. >> a free life in a homeland regained. a secure life in a nation that can defend itself by itself. a full life in friendship with nations who can be counted on as ally allies. >> president obama mentioned palestinian president says his presence at the funeral was gesture and reminder of unfinished business of peace. shimon peres visited the bay area four years ago, and we talked with people who met him during that visit. >> you know, at 90 years old, not only was he not retired it didn't seem like he was tired. it seemed like he was still filled with a passion for the work that had carried up up to that point. >> he met with high-tech leaders like mark zuckerberg during that visit. consul general says he is touched by the condolences messages he has received. >> i know that san francisco has shown that they are mourning with us, and i'm thankful for this community for doing that. >> there is a condolence book at the israeli consulate in san francisco where the community can leave medications. a memorial is being planned in san francisco for october. an oakland police officer and a former contra costa sheriff's deputy are expected in court to face criminal charges connected to a widespread police sex scandal. former deputy ricardo perez are due to be arraigned on felony sex charges. and faces charges of lewd conduct in public. 7 current and former officers from the east bay are facing or will face criminal charges in connection with that scandal. the now 19-year-old former sex worker at the center of the scandal, jasmine abuslin has filed a $66 million lawsuit against the city of oakland for quote failing to protect children. 12 oakland officers were disciplined for their roles in the scandal, and dozens of other officers were investigated. a disbarred harvard educated lawyer is waiting for his sentence after pleading guilty to a bizarre kidnapping in vallejo. 39-year-old matthew muller pled guilty in federal court yesterday. he was facing a maximum sentence of life in prison but as part of his deal, prosecutors agreed they would not ask for more than 40 years. muller is scheduled to be back in court for sentencing in january. now, the cameras were not allowed in the sacramento courtroom for the hearing yesterday. muller admitted that he broke into the home of aaron quinn and denise house -- huskins, and drugged them, and drove huskins to her hometown of huntington beach and released her. san francisco police are investigating the daylight mugging of two tourists near the crooked section of lombard street. police say two men approached the couple and one of the men claimed to have a gun. they stole two cameras from the victims. the victims were not hurt physically. this is the latest metropolitan a string of crimes in -- in a string of crimes in that area. the city of san francisco launched a new initiative beginning tomorrow, at least they will, to crack down on speeders. the city has released a map highlighting troubled areas. there will be more police officers out there patrolling these parts of the city. now, the safety campaign will last for a year. at least ten people are hurt every day on san francisco's streets and studies show if a car going 30 miles per hour, rather than the 25 miles per hour limit and hits a pedestrian, that person is almost twice as likely to die from their injuries. thousands of people will be in san francisco's golden gate park this weekend for the hardly strictly bluegrass festival. ♪ ♪ >> the free three day event kicks off in a few baseball. jose fernandez and two friends were killed in a boating accident last weekend. fernandez was just 24 years old. a 6-year-old boy in south carolina is fighting for his life two days after being shot at his elementary school. the family of jacob hall says jacob is on life support, they held a prayer vigil yesterday. he suffered a major brain injury because of the amount of blood he lost after wednesday's shooting. investigators say a 14-year-old boy shot jacob, another student and teacher at a playground at townville elementary school. the father of the suspect was found dead not far from campus. the suspect is due in court today for his first hearing. the teacher and the other student were both treated and released. time is 7:44. happening today, social workers in contra costa county will begin a 3-day strike. the walkout will be today, monday, and tuesday. this union represents 1100 workers in the county's department of employment and human services. labor dispute includes pay issues, low staffing levels, safety issues and a lack of resources in the public assistance programs, children, seniors and the homeless. the county officials are making no comment about the strike except to say they hope to resolve the matter at the bargaining table. well, golf's ryder cup starts today in minnesota, but there is already a front runner for best putt, a heckler was called visibility for drivers. a new accident in fremont, we have had several but now there's a new crash, southbound 880 right here at mowry avenue, and this one, unfortunately, with injuries. southbound 880 at mowry, involving a motorcyclist, so now traffic that had been recovering from earlier issues is going to be slow as you get to mowry avenue. they called for paramedic team. it's a motorcycle maximum high temps for sunday, october 2 october 2nd. the coolest high temps for the day. it would not surprise me at all. a lot of 60s for inland areas. the low temps have been in the 40s and 50s. once everything clears out there will be plenty of 30s next tuesday, wednesday. today it's all about the inland high temps, continuing to come down. the last few areas to cool off, lake county and also the east bay, but everyone else has already started to drop, and they will continue to do so today. there are breaks. i know el cerrito, george mccray there says some of the fog beginning to burn off. also over large spur and areas over the bay, i can see a few breaks in the clouds. it does look like there are breaks to the north. plenty of low clouds. you get that northwest wind and that's starting to take care of a little bit. behind that is a cool pattern. the deeper part, stronger part will be here sunday night and monday, and i mean it's going to feel very much like the end of october or early november. not the beginning of october. west at oakland, west at hayward, west, southwest, 24, gusts at 32. and there's strong gusts and higher elevations. i have seen the altamont pass about 30 to 35, pretty good gusts out there. low 50s for many. peninsula, stuck in the low 50s. woodside, there are mid-50s. stanford, palo alto, belmont is 54. 44, good morning, ukiah, 36 in truckee. 52 down in monterey. low clouds will give away. mostly sunny on saturday, and breezy and cool. the system swings in. now, again, not only will it be cooler. we have gone from one extreme to the other. breezy to windy today. cooler inland temps. saturday looks okay. and the morning will be cool. i think we get north bay rain, late sunday to early monday. it depends on what forecast model you put in here. one cuts the rain offer about san francisco, and another one, it takes it all the way down to month ray. i tend to buy the -- monterey. i tend to buy the one that's wetter. there are hints it will be stronger and deeper. 60s, 70s on the temps. that's it, 60s, 70s. out of those 80s, out of those 90s. we started off with record heat, 90s and 100s and look at the end of the week, we morning, this is affecting wall street, and san francisco's sales force is going after microsoft. pam cook is back in the studio with me now with this morning's money business. >> sales force, wells fargo, those are just some of the names affecting stock markets today. deutsch bank also among the stocks to watch. costco, and mccormick, the spice maker report good earnings and wells fargo of course remains on the watch list as the bank deals with the fraud investigation. the sound of the opening bell a short time ago, and a bay area company starts trading today. the cloud computing company in san jose, $16 a share, hasn't started trading yet. it is at the low end of expectations for the ipo. analysts are saying that is not a good sign. checking in on the numbers right now, a live look at the dough jones, very -- dow jones, very nice day, a nice way to end the week and month. it is up 120 points. up 3/4 of a percent there. the nasdaq also up about a 1/2 of a percent. 25 points on the up side there. s&ps&p 500 also posting gains. we'll see what happens, but that could be part of the reason as we are wrapping up the month. wells fargo, not the only bank affecting wall street, though, today. shares of deutsch bank, germany's biggest bank are down 10 percent today. they dropped to 30 year lows after reports that ten hedge fund clients are reducing their dealings with deutsch bank. that report has investors and customers worried about the bank's financial stability. deutsch bank is facing a huge fine here in the u.s. for trading in toxic mortgages ten years ago. this morning the bank's ceo tried to restore confidence by talking about the good strong fundamentals that did help a little bit of a recovery for that stock. san francisco's sales force calling on european regulators to investigate possible antitrust issues with microsoft. the allegations are related to microsoft's proposed $26 billion acquisition of linked in. the sales force lost out to microsoft in bidding for the bay area neighborhood linked in is based in mountain view. and holiday hiring is expected to be flat at fedex from last year but the delivery company did announce actions to speed things up for customers this holiday shopping season. it's opening four new hubs and dozens of small satellite facilities to receive that huge rush of packages between thanksgiving and christmas, and dave, i mentioned to you yesterday, millions of people have already started their holly shopping. you're not feeling -- holiday shopping. you're not feeling the pressure are you. >> i which does make a difference. moving along and looking at 880. slowing past the coliseum as you drive north. we have had a motorcycle accident the last, i don't know, it's been there for a little bit. southbound 880 at mowry avenue in fremont, and traffic is very solid here heading south. if you happen to get on the freeway after mowry, it does look good down to milpitas. this is a motorcycle motorcyclist struck and killed on interstate 80 in vallejo. the victim was a san pablo police officer heading to work on his harley davidson. officer william zink was a popular school resource officer at helms middle school in san pablo. christien kafton joining us live with more on how officer zink is being remembered. >> reporter: yeah, a real tragedy for the community, mike, if you take a look inside the lobby, you might see the memorial for officer zink. officers beginning to come to grips with the loss, servings a a school resource officer where he worked closely with students. >> he was a rock for them. you know, helping them bridge with their families, when there's problems, you know, helping them at school, when they can't concentrate. >> the grief counselors are scheduled to be at helms today as students begin saying good- bye to the 53-year-old officer, and according to chp, zink was headed to the school on his harley davidson riding between a nissan pickup truck and a big rig when he collided with a pickup and fell underneath the big rig. the crash shut down parts of i- 80 for hours yesterday morning. students and administrators and those who worked alongside officer zink reached out to at risk teens taking on an active role to advocate, teens say they remember his general use concern for his -- genuine concern for their well being. >> he used to ask me, are you okay. i had problems, and he used to like support me, and tell me what i should do. >> reporter: san pablo's police chief spent the day with zink's family in dixon. zink served in the el cerrito police department before switching to san pablo. officer zink won numerous awards but students and fellow officers agree what set him apart was his ability to connect and help children and teens. officer of helping 1996 miss universe winner become a u.s. citizen quote so she could use her in the debate. he also alludes to an alleged sex tape featured mashado, in another tweet trump suggested mashado duped clinton. donald trump is also denying a news week report that he explored business opportunities in cuba in the late 1990s which would have violated the u.s. trade embargo. news week reported that the work was done by a consulting firm and that trump rusted the firm $68,000 for business expenses for its work in cuba. but the magazine says neither trump nor the firm obtained a federal government waiver that would have been required at the time for that type of work. trump insists he never did business in cuba, and says the news week reporters who wrote the article has a bad the continuing coverage another deadly train crash in hoboken new jersey, you saw yesterday as breaking news. service on the rail line has been suspended this morning. federal investigators are at the train station trying to learn why the train overran its stop yesterday, ran through a bumper and went airborne. the train killed a 34-year-old woman who was waiting at the platform. shesome just dropped off her 1- year-old daughter at day care. more than 100 other people were hurt in the crash. we're collecting everything on the operations on the human performance, the track, the survivability of this train. we'll be looking at all of that. >> as part of its investigation, the ntsb will examine whether a system known as positive train control should have been installed and could have prevented the crash. the system designed to prevent accidents by overriding the engineer and automatically slowing or stopping trains that are going too fast. a san jose math teacher was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a student. 64-year-old david graham was arrested at harker school, and police say the alleged crime occurred on campus in 2007 and that the alleged victim was 13 years old. police say she only recently told the friend about the alleged assault and that the friend called police. harker school says graham has been placed on administrative leave. with three months left in the year, richmond has reached 21 homicides, the same number as all of last year. this spike comes two years after a safety campaign cut the homicide rate to eleven, the lowest on record. the east bay times reports the latest increase may be an anomaly because other violent and property crimes have gone down this year compared to last year. richmond police are increasing patrols and working with an anti-gang fbi task force. new from overnight, fremont police are asking for the public's help for their search in a possible witness to a hit- and-run crash. they have released video from an ac transit bus that was taken around the same time of the crash wednesday night in the city's irvington district. investigators say the man in the center of the screen may have information on the crash that critically injured a woman. it happened on fremont boulevard near chapel way. the man appears to be in his 40s, and reportedly driving a light colored toyota camry. the city of san francisco launched an initiative to crack down on speeding drivers. the city has released a map that highlighted troubled areas. there will be more police officers patrolling the sections of the city. the safety campaign will last one year. at least ten people are injured every day on san francisco streets. studies show if a car going 30 miles per hour rather than 25 miles per hour speed limit, and if that car hits a pedestrian, the person is almost twice as likely to die from their injuries. world leaders say good-bye to former israeli president shimon peres. >> a bountiful fired flash bangs to keep back protesters. a group had blocked a major intersection in the san diego suburb last night. some demonstrators threw bottles at policed and smashed car windows. protesters also got into shoving matches with drivers and motorcyclists. one man was knocked off his motorcycle and assaulted. this was the third straight night of protesters following the shooting that claimed the life of alfred olongo. >> i'm telling you the truth. my son is a good loving young man. only 38 years old. >> they are angry police have only released the one still photo. police shoot and kill him. the object turned out to be an electronic cigarette. the family wants the entire video to be released. a tulsa police officer pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance in the shooting death of an unarmed african-american man. she is charged with first- degree manslaughter in the death of terrence crutcher. prosecutors say she acted unreasonable when she shot crutcher. she told investigators she feared for her life. according to an affidavit, another officer told shelby he had a taser ready to deploy. shelby said she experienced auditory exclusion and never heard the comment. didn't realize other officers were with her. her preliminary hearing is set for september 29th. the release of a convicted arsonist is making people nervous in a san francisco neighborhood. david diaz spent three years in jail for involuntary manslaughter. he was convicted of strangling his sex partner in buena vista park and setting the body on fire. >> i think the thing with the arsonist is scary. it points to a bigger problem. we are not dealing well in society with repetitive offenders. >> police say diaz is banned from 18th street between castro and hartford for the next six months and officers plan to circulate diaz's photo to every merchant within 150 yards of the mix, a bar on 18th street, which is owned by one of diaz's former partners. governor jerry brown signed off on $10 million funding to get california's earthquake warning system up and running. >> earthquake light shaking expected in 59 seconds. the officer of emergency services says the money will almost double the number of sensors statewide to about 1100. an early warning system could provide precious seconds for trains to slow down. school children to duck and cover, and automated systems to shut down gas lines. the warning systems is called shake alert, expected to be in operation within the next year or two. it's official, lady gaga will head the super bowl half- time show next year. >> truth on the nimitz freeway. i think it would be better if this crash wasn't there. and rather unfortunately another motorcycle crash, and we have had a lot of serious ones lately, and there were injuries in this one. southbound 880 at mowry avenue. traffic is backed up now out of hayward, and it's very slow heading down if you want to think about an alternate. if you're going to the peninsula, you may want to think about using the dumbarton instead of 237. it would cost you a little more but aggravation may not be worth it. we have a lot of slow traffic when you get to the south bay. let's look at highway 24 now, getting better through lafayette as you drive to the tunnel. slow in orinda. 680 is clearing out from concord to walnut creek. we have a robust backup at the bay bridge. backed up for a 15 to 20 minute delay before the span. rather normal on the bridge. a couple minor incidents. nothing major. i think you'll get through doing your normal commute. it should be normal for you. 8:19. let's bring steve. >> nothing normal about our temps, they have gone below normal, and when they were way above on sunday, monday, and for some on tuesday. that's all changed and in fact cooler weather is going to spill in by sunday. fog bank is getting chewed up. too much cool air aloft. inland temps come way down, when you go from 99 to about 73. the fog doesn't have a lot of support left. there's still low clouds and fog there, and a little drizzle this morning. most locations did say cloudy, mostly cloudy, but you can see there's rapid clearing, taking place. a decent system on tap. in fact, pretty strong for early october. looks like it will move in here late sunday into monday, and very cool air associated with in, and i think the north bay gets in on rain late sunday into monday. west at hayward, 8 miles per hour. the delta breeze has been full force, and a blustery to windy day for some. as soon as the low cloud deck picking ups and 40s, and 50s, there were cool readings. tiburon 51. mill valley 49. calistoga, kelseyville, bodega bay. quite cool. truckee, 39. there will be slow late sunday, monday, even up to the northern mountains i would think. it does look mostly sunny here today, booked saturday, then increasing clouds. -- spook saturday, then increasing clouds. -- into saturday, then increasing clouds. i do think the north bay is looking for the first rain late sunday, monday. not a lot but a little bit. we'll see if it makes it south of san francisco. one forecast model shows it. the other does not. 60s, 70s on the temps. out of those approved it. a company called prop expects to operate between berkeley, emeryville, and san francisco at the beginning of next year. tide line marine group says it will offer ferry service between berkeley and san francisco starting at the end of october. there a housing project in west oakland is generating buzz and getting concern from residents who live there. it's called station house west and will have 171 two and three bedroom town homes. prices will start around $600,000. the new homes are just a few blocks away from the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. the first ten homes are ready to be sold, more than a thousand people have applied to buy one of those ten homes. some locals worry the complex will drive up price further. developers say they want to give renters a chance to become buyers. it was row toe rooter to the -- roto rooter to the rescue. he got a little closer and heard the meow of a kitten. the firefighters were able cocoax the kitten out. she wouldn't budge. therm been down at the loma fire in santa cruz. we have had new developments. we're going to get to her in a live report in a bit. first we want to check in on the forecast. firefighters have been dealing with hot temperatures earlier in the week, now a lot different. >> what a difference, mike. upper 70s to near 80s around 3000 feet. that helps, the humidity is up as well. what the firefighters are concerned about is what's in the forecast and that's a breezy blustery, maybe down right windy pattern for some, going into the weekend. low clouds are rapidly burning off. there's not a lot to support it anymore. about 6:00 in the morning, almost everybody said cloudy, that's losing its grip fast. system is on its way, saturday looks mostly sunny, and then the system looks like it will barrel in here for late sunday into monday for possible north bay rain. west at 15, west at 8, west at 24. vacaville, west, southwest, 10. 50s on the temps here. a cool start here. there might be a couple low 60s. most are in the 50s. a lot of 40s in the russian river area north, and down to the santa cruz mountains. fog is losing its grip, and the system will eventually swing in here. it's going to be a fall like pattern as we go into october. today, 50s, 60s and 70s. what would you give to the commute this morning. >> i'd give it a b plus. i'm a generous grader. i grade on a curve, but, we have had some slow traffic. it's better than normal, though. it's better than it would be on a wednesday. in summer it was kind of a rough one. in fall, 31 minutes is actually a very good commute though there is waiting to do in richmond and el cerrito. when you get to the macarthur maze, when you see traffic ease out. if you are going to be bat bridge, you'll be waiting an additional 20 minutes to get on the span. i feel as if i need to let you know that this commute usually is better. we had an earlier accident, 880 at mowry, and the traffic is still very slow as you pass this scene on the right shoulder. and we go to the south bay, 101 is the heaviest freeway, 85 and 280 are pretty good. if you have an option to get in the west valley, 280 and 85 are better than 101. 8:31, let's go back to the desk. cal fire released new numbers on the big fire burning this week in the santa cruz mountains. >> that's right. the loma fire has now burned through more than 4300 acres. it's 34% contained. we have a reporter team there in the santa cruz mountains. we'll bring in janine de la vega a bit later on in mornings on 2. she will show and tell us about all the damage she has found as a result of these flames. new this morning, president obama joined other world leaders in jerusalem today for the funeral of former israeli president shimon peres. dignitaries include prince charles, french president and former president bin bill clinton. he died earlier this week from complications from a stroke at the age of 93. president obama gave the final eulogy go no better than the cynic if you look over the arc of history, human beings should be filled not with fear but with hope. >> president obama also mentioned palestinian leader saying his presence at the funeral was a gesture and a reminder of the unfinished business of peace. p irs won a peace prize for attempting to resolve the palestinian conflict. we talked with people who met with him during the visit to the bay area. >> at 90 years old, not only was he not retired, it didn't seem like he was tired. it seemed like he was filled with a passion for the work that had carried him to that point. >> peres met with tech leaders, such as mark zuckerberg during the visit. >> i know that san francisco has shown me that it is mourning with us, and i'm thankful for this community for doing that. >> there is a condolence book at the israeli consulate in san francisco for the community to leave messages. a memorial is being planned in san francisco for october. back now to that top story, the loma fire, the area devastated by the flames this week. janine. >> we have been driving around for a couple of hours here on loma prieta road, and we found what used to be a home. if you take a look at this, what we're staring at right now, just pure devastation. this was a home that was once standing. behind it, all the rubble, you can see all the mountainside here that has been completely eaten up by the flames. now, i do want to go to some pictures to show you what we believe is this big house that we're standing at right now, being eaten up by those flames, near the loma prieta ridge a few days ago. underneath it you see a smaller home in tact. we believe we're at the same location this morning as you can see, we go to another picture, the larger home is completely gone. the other home doesn't appear to be damaged at all. now, last night, residents who met in cal fire to get an update on damage, so far 8 homes and 9 outbuildings have been destroyed. we spoke with one whom who's worried she's lost her belongings. >> my children's childhood and all the paintings i had done, and my photo equipment, and my grandma's stuff, everything you don't want to lose. >> as we have been driving, we have spotted a lot of burned area underneath the tv and radio transmission towers. there's a lot of heavy equipment, and cal fire crews holding containment lines. the fire is burning down steep rugged terrain that is inaccessible. cal fire is monitoring the weather. the wind is supposed to pick up this weekend, and that's not good for fighting the fire. and back out to these live pictures. we have not run into any of these homeowners yet up here. cal fire has been telling us that at 3:00, 4:00 in the morning, that they have run into a lot of the homeowners who have been trying to check on their homes, seeing if they can get past some of the fire crews. they have had to show id. one of the things that sheriff's deputies have told us is that the homes that are intact, they want to make sure nobody who is not supposed to be up here, like looters, that they're not up here. we are going to drive to see what more we can find just because a lot of residents are worried, you know, if it is more than 8 homes that have been destroyed. back to you. >> janine, thank you, and staying in the south bay, milpitas police are searching for suspects in the city's first homicide of the year. the deadly shooting happened on dixon road yesterday afternoon. the body of a 47-year-old homeless man was found at a vacant lot behind a shopping center. he had been shot. he was transported to the hospital where he later died. there is no word on what may have led to the shooting. happening today, an oakland officer and former contra costa sheriff's deputies are expected to be in court to face criminal charges connected to a widespread police scandal. oakland officer, giovanni loverde, and former deputy, ricardo perez are set to be arraigned on felony sex charges with a minor. 7 current and former officers from the east bay are facing or will face criminal charges in connection with the scandal. the now 19-year-old former sex worker at the center of the scandal, jasmine abuslin has filed a $66 million lawsuit against the city of oakland for quote fail to go protect children. 12 oakland officers were addition palestinianed for their -- were disciplined for their role in the scandal. the football team in the east bay has been thrown for a big loss. the delta youth football team announced it's dropping the hayward aggies in a decision that affects nearly 90 young players. the team has failed to meet minimum player requirements in the past five years. parents point out many of the children who play for the aggies come from low income, single parent households. >> it's harder out here because parents have one or two jobs to survive in the east bay. they don't have time to bring their kids to practice. >> everything is not going to go restricted and it's how you handle it. as a person, that defines who you are. >> coaches, parents, already working on a new game plan for the young players. they're looking at ways to get the league to reinstate the aggies. happening today, social workers in contra costa county will begin a three day strike. the walkout will be today, monday and attitude. the union represents 1100 workers in the county's department of employment and human services. it includes pay, staffing levels, safety issues and the amount of resources in the public assistance programs that serve children, seniors and the homeless. county officials aren't commenting about the strike except to say they are hoping to e are solve the matter at the bargaining table. 8:38. thousands of people will be in san francisco's golden golden gate park this weekend the bay bridge. there's slowing and waiting to do. but in general, the volume has been a little lighter. the backups aren't as deep, even though they look the same. taking a look at interstate 880. into downtown oakland, southbound 880 is slow getting to fremont, if you have to drive from hayward. i want to look at the south bay maps because there's an easy way to avoid the valley traffic and that is to use 85 and 280 instead of 101. 8:48, let's go to steve. we're seeing the low clouds dissipate, and that makes sense. higher clouds are enhancing ahead of the system, getting a southwest flow aloft, especially over the north, mostly sunny, to partly cloudy to the north, but the low clouds, i think they'll get chewed up here, not enough to support it much anymore. getting so cool in the higher elevations and also at the surface. you can see enhancement taking place ahead of the system on its way. saturday looks mostly sunny to partly cloudy, but it's sunday night and monday as the system digs in here, that could give us at least the north bay, first taste of rain. it feels like fall and temperatures continuing to drop as we head into sunday. there's going to be breezy, blustery and for some very windy as we head into the next couple of days. started the week off very hot. most temperatures are trending cooler than 24 hours ago. minus 2, minus 3. it feels cooler, it is. the low clouds will disappear. higher clouds are getting a little bit of help here, and you can see the enhancement taking place right there. that's the secondary, the stronger part of the low has to drop in, sunday night, monday night, the i think the north bay gets rain. 60s and 70s, should be about the same. maybe a slight warm up on saturday as we get south wind out ahead of the system before it approaches. it will increase the clouds on sunday. today, though, it's 60s, 70s, out of those 80s, 90s, record heat, beginning the week, but not now. i would plan on rain north bay, sunday mugger two blocks away from the latest incident. a missouri couple is accused of forcing three children to help them grow and sell marijuana. christine at whileer were arrested tuesday after someone filed a complaint. they found 40 marijuana plants as well as guns and ammunition at the home. investigators say the couple forced their children, ages 8 to 13 to help grow and process marijuana. an 8-year-old girl told investigators her mother said they needed to do it to support the family. >> my heart goes out to the kids, and i have spent time praying for the kids because i can't imagine being raised in a family where that were the case. >> investigators say the couple had a sign in the dining room that read unruly children will be forced to pick weed. deputies say both with felons with prior drug convictions. they are facing several new charges, including endangering  the welfare of a child. wells fargo in trouble with military families. pam cook is here with this morning's money business. >> shares of deutsch bank, down 10% today. it's dropped to 30 year lows after reports that ten hedge fund clients are reducing their dealings with deutsch bank. that report has investors and customers worried about the bank's financial stability. deutsch bank is facing a huge fine here in the u.s. for trading in toxic mortgages ten years ago. we'll keep an eye on that stock. the opening bell there from just about two hours ago. a new report on consumer spending came in this morning. little disappointing, spending leveled off in august. analysts say that is a sign that americans are more cautious about the u.s. economy than they were a cup of months ago. a -- a couple of months ago. a big drop in spending on cars. checking in on the numbers, the dow, the nasdaq, and the s&p s&p 500 are all doing well this morning, up almost a full percentage point. there are more troubles for san francisco based wells fargo. it will pay $24 million to settle allegations that the bank mistreated military families, including repossessing cars without a court order. the settlement comes on the heels of the embarrassing scandal over the fang accounts. john stump was grilled yesterday during a hearing at the house financial services committee. stump will forfeit $41 million in pay and says the bank is enacting reforms but that investigation continues: san francisco's sales force.com is calling on european regulators to investigate possible antitrust issues with microsoft. the allegations are related to microsoft's proposed $26 billion acquisition of linked in. hall says jacob is on life support. they held a prayer vigil for him yesterday. he suffered a major brain injury because of the amount of blood he lost after wednesday's shooting. investigators say a 14-year-old boy shot jacob, another student and teacher on a playground at townville elementary school. the father of the suspect was found dead not far from the school. the suspect is due in court today for his first hearing. the teacher and other student were treated and released. meantime, a volunteer firefighter is being called a hero for stopping the school shooter. police say jamie brock tackled the teen and held him on the ground until police could arrest him. brock says he and the fire chief rushed to the scene after the school's front office confirmed the shooting. when they got to the school, brock says the fire chief went to help the victims while he went to search for the gunman. brock says he did what any other volunteer firefighter would have done. the california bakery trying to bring out the sweeter side of the election, selling donald trump and hillary clinton cookies, both made with the same ingredients. the owner says they started make the cookies to coincide with the first presidential debate: golf's rider's cup starts in minnesota. there's a front runner for best putt. a fan was heckling justin rose during the practice round. the fan was saying rose
