Paramedics were called and 19 people were taken to the hospital. 14 were admitted to the hospital, including three children who went to the icu. The symptoms raise several questions. Was it an edible marijuana or some sort of drug that somebody intended to put in there. Ktvus brian flores live in the city with what police and the victims family and friends are doing. Reporter thats right. National park police and the victims family looking for answers on this case, gasia. We are live, as we mentioned, San Franciscos aquatic park. As you know, this is a very popular tourist destination. Ghirardelli square across the street. Have you people exercising, swimming, enjoying the view at any given part of the day meaning that thousands of people are here and police are hoping that somebody knows something when it comes to this shooting. 20yearold calvin riley was shot and killed after 10 00 on saturday night. Rileys family says he was playing pokemon go with a friend visiting from the east coast when riley was killed. This happened as they were leaving the park on saturday night. Rileys family believes this was a random killing as riley had no enemies. They say that riley was at the wrong place at the wrong time. Riley was a pitcher for the san joaquin team. He was a standout player with dreams of making it to the major leagues. Very well respected by all of his teammates, his teachers. A good student. Just the type of kid you hope your kid grows up to be. Really, it is a fairly safe area. We get about 4 million visitors to the park. Probably 2. 8 walking along where we are now. Reporter again, police are hoping that somebody saw something with regards to the shooting. Riley graduated from Sarah High School in san mateo last year. Police have not said anything about a possible motive or suspect description. Calvin rileys cousin set up a gofundme account to help put calvin to rest with the dignity and honor he deserves. As for rileys team, they plan to wear something on their uniforms in remembrance of him. He wore number 27. Police say also, unfortunately, there are no surveillance cameras here at aquatic park, which is again why theyre saying if you saw something or heard something in regards to what happened on saturday night, to please call them. So far no arrests have been made. Happening today Santa Clara County Court Workers expected to be back on the picket lines against today. Leigh martinez joining us live to tell us why the workers say they need to be paid more. Good morning, leigh. Reporter good morning. Well, the court was supposed to open at 8 30. The clerks and other city workers are not inside. They are out here. They are ready to strike again. This is the first group that has shown up here. Its a small group right now. They are expecting another 300 to show up for the strike today, and they are getting comfortable. They have their yoga mats. They have their chairs. They have their coolers out here. They are going to stay out here for a while. They are not going in today. Joining us now, we have ingrid stewart, who is the president of the courthouse workers union. So a lot of the the problem here is not getting a raise in eight years. I am seeing the signs here. And there is a lot of anger over that new courthouse, is that right . Thats correct. What we believe is that the court gambled and the funds coming in through generated revenue from the public, and so the funding that they thought they would have is not there. So were paying for it and the publics paying for it. They gambled on that. Reporter so the last best offer you got from the court was for a 9 raise for 88 of the court house workers. That wasnt good enough. Is that right . We are looking for a second year raise. We have been without a raise for the past eight years. As a matter of fact, we took concessions during that time. So were making less than what we were making back then. So the first year is barely enough to cover what we lost already. And so in order for us to keep living in this area, we need a second year raise. A lot of people are working two or three jobs. We have people that are having to move 100 miles away just to be able to come to work here. We have people who are in a shelter. And so people are just hurting. And we need that second year raise in order to even survive. Reporter that courthouse is already built. The moneys been spent. Do you think the money is there to give the workers a raise . I believe so. Just like what administration said the other day, by consolidating the courts, they are going to save hundreds of millions of dollars. So they have the money now. Reporter if people were to come to court today, if they need to get something filed, what can they expect as they come here . Basically, practically not being able to get anything done because all of us are going to be out here in force. I am sorry that the public is being hurt by this. But we have reached out to the court to go back to the table. We are just waiting for them to respond. So if anything, its in their ball court. Reporter how long are you going to stay out here today . As long as it takes. Reporter thank you very much. Well, the last week they had their first strike on wednesday. It went through friday. They are resuming again today. Last week about half of the courtrooms were shut down, darkened, and about 8,000 potential jurors showed up and were sent home. This is a problem you might expect today. But the courts are saying if you have an appointment, if you are a potential juror, you are supposed to show up and they will provide that information whether you stay or go once you get here. All right. Thank you. State lawmakers are considering a bill that would no longer allow minors in california to be prosecuted for prostitution. There have been no problems getting onto the span. Moving along and taking a look at 880 northbound, we are gunning to see some of the bunching up we get near the coliseum heading up north. That earlier crash in walnut creek has been cleared on 680 northbound. Walnut creek, pleasant hill. Southbound 680 is slow in the area. I want to mention the south bay commute where traffic here is going to be slow on all the major approaches, but nothing major when it comes to accidents on the way up into sunnyvale and cupertino. 7 47. Lets bring steve in here. Thank you, sir. We have our usual fog and low clouds. Although from the marin coast southward, look to be fog free. A little northnorthwest breeze chewed up some of that fog. South of that over the bay and some inland areas its a gray sky and temperatures, i think they are stuck here for a while. Take a look at whats going on down in the gulf coast. A nice satellite into the morning satellite. Midlevel system is going to park it, stall out, and there is projections between now and next monday of about 17 inches of rain from around new orleans down into the southern gulf coast into the florida panhandle. So if you have travel plans there, just be advised. You didnt tell me that. I just did. Low clouds, sunny and nice here. Fog, cooler on wednesday. Warmer inland thursday, friday, saturday. The lows have been cool, cool. Very falllike. I think so. Scots valley, Santa Cruz Mountains 43. Occidental 44. Boulder creek 45. One oh near santa rosa at a cool 46. Speaking of, Jake Mckenzie says back from the beach in socal to a cool 49 on the sunny slopes of northern roanoke park. And it has been cool. A lot of upper 40s. Sebastapol. Petaluma as well. I think thats disappeared right there. South of that its pretty solid. Westsouthwest. West breeze. So an onshore breeze. What about the delta . Yeah, but nothing crazy. 15 is a hohum, if you will, for travis. They can be up to 40. They are not showing that this morning. There is a breeze thats onshore. 40s, 50s, to one 60 in there. They didnt get that southeast breeze. They get more of a west. We do have 32 in truckee. 55 reno. 54 ukiah. Same in monterey. Desert southwest, las vegas 85. 90 in phoenix. Palm springs 82. The monsoon moisture because of the westsouthwest direction of the upper atmosphere swept away. However, big changes are brewing for some. Not a bad looking low for august here bringing some scattered showers to seattle and also portland, and then we also have a Tropical Storm. If you are down in Cabo San Lucas or la paz, they will get a lot of rain. Wind 50 miles per hour. This will be a big rain producer. A lot of that moisture is heading into arizona, and they could get some heavy duty rain there. We wont get any though. Sometimes you get the remains of a Tropical Storm coming up from baja. Thats not a favorable pattern. This low is digging a little bit. I think that will enhance our fog bank through wednesday after that High Pressure builds back in for warmer weather inland. Low clouds for most. Some parts of the coast already sunny. I think most will later on. But it stays pretty cool there by the waters edge. 60s and 70s. 80s to a few 90s. But again pretty close to average for this time of year. Walnut creek at 85. A little bit of a breeze. 80 in san jose. Slightly below average. 84 saratoga. 62 daly city. 72 san bruno. 81 woodside and palo alto. Looks like a pretty similar pattern. A little cooloff on wednesday. Warmer inland temps, dave, thursday, friday, saturday. Thank you. 7 50. They are cleaning up this morning in golden gate park. Some passengers waiting for hours and passengers looking at the possibility of more delays through the morning. Lets show you the arrivals board here at Delta Airlines. A flight from cincinnati was supposed to arrive at 11 47, now at 12 06. Take a look at this line. A lot of folks waiting in line. The line actually shorter now than it was about an hour ago, but we expect to see fluctuation in this line. Delta is still warning passengers that their flight could be on time, delayed, or canceled. We have some video that we shot earlier. We saw a few passengers sleeping in the terminal after having spent hours in some cases overnight at the airport waiting to find out the status of their flight. This is the result of a computer problem in atlanta. That caused delays and cancellations worldwide. At 5 40 our time the problem was resolved. The damage had been done. The airline is telling passengers to expect long lines, delays and cancellations as they recover from the outage. We were on the plane for two hours when we got off. They said the systems were down. They directed us to the gates here in the wrong line. So we have been sitting in line for about four to five hours. Yeah. Waiting. Reporter you are now booked and on your way . Yeah. An expert says the fast onset of symptoms is a troubling sign. The first thing i think of is this analogy . It would be kind of funny for 19 people to have the same allergic reaction. That brings up the question, is this some kind of toxin . Was it, you know, an edible marijuana or some sort of drug that somebody intended to put in there . San francisco Health Officials are interviewing people who became sick. They are also testing all the food at the party, which was brought in by organizers or guests. For more on that and other issues in the biggest city in the bay area we are joined by san joses mayor samueli card sam liccardo. Are you as a city leader having impact on the talks in trying to get if this stalemate to end . Well, no, bluntly. This really involves state employees. So we dont have any direct involvement. Obviously, we want the parties to come to a good resolution so they can serve san jose and Santa Clara County residents again. Clearly, you are hearing frustration from the people you serve, im guessing . Certainly. We want to get all of these issues resolved. We certainly had our own issues here within the city of san jose. The good news is we will be going to the ballot in november with a pension reform settlement measure that i think will put a lot of our own labor challenges behind us. Lets talk about your city. Today is monday, august 8th. So far, according to the last numbers we checked, you had 29 homicide in your city compared to 30 last year. Have you sat down with the chief of police . Have you talked about this . Is this a concern with you . Is this not a concern with you . Whats your state of the city when it comes to homicide . Thats absolutely a concern. You know, one homicide is one homicide too many. Although just about any another major city would be envious that san jose has low numbers of homicides, we know thats a high number for us. And thats why were laser focused on additional patrol cars, particularly in gang impacted neighborhoods. We are seeing how we can get to the kids before the gangs do. We are really laser focused on trying to get more Police Officers out on the streets. Thats going to be a critical issue as we turn towards november with this pension reform settlement because if we cannot get voter approval of this settlement, we are going to have a very difficult time hiring and retaining Police Officers in the city. Do you think its unfair that the city gets judged sometimes too harshly based on homicide numbers . I am not too worried about the judgment. As i said, one homicide is one homicide too many. We have got to do everything we possibly can to reduce Violent Crime. The one thing i know we can do together with our residents is by getting this measure approved in november, we can start hiring Police Officers aggressively, and thats the most critical issue facing us today. We have the most thinly staffed Police Department of any major city in the country. We have lost over 500 officers in the last half decade. Take mibach to National Night out a few days ago. What concerns did you hear from people who live in san jose on National Night out about whats happening in their neighborhood . Well, believe it or not, contrary to what you might read or see on tv, most residents feel pretty good about their relationship with police. We see particularly those who are deeply engaged in their neighborhood, who have a lot of positive things to say about our Current Police leadership and the rank and file and how they are working with the community. We know there are a lot of issues in cities through the country, and i feel very grateful that we have a community and Police Department that are working well together. Certainly, everyone is concerned about crime whether their rates or high or low, but they are making progress in reducing property crime. We continue to have the lowest Violent Crime rate of any major city. But we have got to do more, and we have got a lot of work to get done, particularly in november. I know your city was recently in the spotlight across the country. You were at the dnc. You were unable to attend the Major League Soccer allstar game. A week plus later, is it being deemed a success for the city of san jose hosting that big game . Well, as you can imagine, it was a huge moral conflict for me. I wanted to be here for the mountain lions star game in san jose. I am a soccer fan. I was a delegate at the Democratic National convention. It wasnt a bad thing being a part of a historic moment certainly to nominate the first woman of any Major Political party to be president of the United States. It was a great experience, and i think we all enjoyed it. Hopefully, it will come back soon some day down the road here. The mayor of san jose, sam liccardo. Always appreciate your time. Thanks for joining us on this monday morning. Thanks, mike. Thanks for taking the time. Sure. Time now is 8 45. I was just so thankful that my dad could be here with us today in spirit and in a piece of his physical being as well. That was really, really special for us. A lot of this is heading into arizona and thats going to give them some flood issues if not tuesday, into wednesday. I think thats going to keep us in this pattern here probably through midweek. 60s on the coast. 70s around the bay. Mainly 80s inland after that High Pressure builds in on thursday. Near normal temps. Breezy at times. Its been a chilly pattern if youre anywhere near the city or on most of the coast. Not all of the coast, but most. 60s, 70s, 80s, some low 90s. Temperatures right about where they should be this time of year to slightly below for many. And i dont think we will see too much change here until tuesday.
