Transcripts For KTVU KTVU Mornings On 2 At 7am 20160620

Morning. Thats the first time that happened on the same day since 1967 here. Summer solstice and the june full moon. Clear skies except for the patchy fog. Decrease, decrease, decrease. Travis, hang my hat on that. When its under ten, thats a sign inland temps are going to warm up. Cool readings. We had plenty of 40s and 50s. Pacifica 51. San mateo 52. Wont take long now. Beginning to heat up here a little bit. Highs mainly centered in the four corners. To be honest, it looks like its going to hang around with day to day changes for a while. Patchy fog builds in. 90s inland. Above average temps. Coast though 60s and 70s. A pretty big difference with some of that patchy fog. All right. Sal, 7 01 what do you have for us, sir, on a monday . Slow traffic, steve. One of the things that i will mention is that the east shore fiancee is getting a little bit slower if you are driving in from the carquinez bridge all the way out to the macarthur maze. When you get to toll plaza, you will be waiting there for another 30 minutes. It appears to be improving especially on the ramp from 880. Lets look at where the slow traffic is. Highway 4 is slow. Concord, pleasant hill, walnut creek, your commute is slowed down to walnut creek and westbound 24 is moderate. Southbound 880 continues to be slow. 880 is an alternate route for a lot of people who are avoiding 680. It has been slow from some earlier issues out of pleasanton. For your Silicon Valley commute, 280 is a little slow. 85 and 101, it looks okay so far trying to get into sunnyvale, Mountain View and palo alto. 7 02. Back to the desk. Thank you. You got to give it to the warriors. They had a dream season. But the dream season ended with heartbreaking 9389 loss to cleveland in the final seconds of game 7. Curry one on one. Irving puts it up and scores kyrie irving i dont want to watch that again. Oh, boy. All right. The Cleveland Cavaliers took the lead for good with 53 seconds left. Warriors several missed opportunities in the final minutes of the game. It was a close game the entire game. Draymond green phenomenal. He ended with 32 points, hitting six threepointers. But lebron james and kyrie irving led the cavs to victory. They became the first team to come back from a 31 deficit to win the nba championships. For cleveland, its the citys first sports title since the browns won the nfl championship back in 1964. Our fans, they ride or die, no matter whats been going on. No matter, you know, the browns, the indians, the cavs and so on, and all the other sports teams that support us. At the end of the day you congratulate them for accomplishing what they set out to do. It will be a good image for us over the summer and all next season to remember so that, you know, we come back stronger. Thats all you can do. Dont really want to remember it. Yeah. Lebron james and his team, yes, there they are spraying champagne in the visitors locker room at oracle one year after the warriors did that to cleveland. James was named finals mvp. So many fans trying to figure out, all right, whats next . We are like whats next for the warriors after this sad sad end to the history making lets look to the future. What a talented team. Look at what they accomplished this season. Obviously, made it all the way to game 7 of the nba finals. We know the core group of warriors players will remain intact, of course. The team will be making some moves this offseason and a few familiar faces may not be here. Eight players on the roster become free agents next month. The future uncertain for festus ezeally and maurice speights. We are also still waiting to hear about the health of starting center andrew bogut, who injured his knee during the finals and was forced to sit out the last couple of games. Of course, there are Big Questions surrounding the future of harrison barnes. He was heavily criticized for a lackluster showing in these nba finals. He went ice cold at the worst possible time, shooting 5for 32 during those last three losses to the cavs in the finals. Now, after last nights game barnes was asked about his performance in that crucial game last night and his future with the warriors. First shot fell. That was night. I got some rhythm in the second half. Reporter is it emotional for you in looking ahead . I havent put any thought to it. And there you see a dejected harrison barnes, obviously, after last nights loss. But looking ated to next season in ahead to the next season in terms of the Coaching Staff, at least one different face. Luke walton is leaving the team. He will be taking over as the head coach of the l. A. Lakers. He was the interim head coach to start off the historic season. He helped get the warriors off to a hot start this year. His departure leaves a big hole on steve kerrs Coaching Staff. As the warriors look to make adjustments this offseason, there is still talk of pursuing free agent kevin durrant. Obviously, he is a hot commodity around the league. According to one report, the team plans to be very aggressive this offseason, especially with durrant out there and available. The warriors, they remain the oddson favorites in vegas to win the championship in 2017, if thats any consolation to you guys. They are still a great team. They are. I said this morning, when people have been Walking Around the newsroom like this. Yeah. That the one thing i will say is that it didnt feel like the same team. They werent smiling. They werent having fun. A lot of pressure on the season like they have had. Its almost a relief that they get break. Like take a break. Heal physically, emotionally. It takes such a toll. Yeah. The playoffs are so grueling. You did get that sense that they kind of ran out of gas, you know. The injuries started to build up. And have fun. I like watching them because they are a fun team to watch and they are always laughing and having a good team. That is not the team i saw towards the ends. The pressure. Yeah. Are you going to hold this up . I dont want to. Dethroned by the king. There you go. Yeah, yeah [ laughter ] we dont want to show it. Our director refuses to zoom in on that. We are not gonna talk about it. Lets look ahead to next year. Were gonna get rid of it and move on. We will talk to you later, alex. Time is 7 08. Well, warriors fans were hoping to celebrate another nba championship, but of course they are disappointed this morning. Fans are saying that loss was a heartbreaker. Especially after the warriors had such a magical season. Devastated, but i am encouraged by the effort, know. Sometimes it just doesnt fall. Just got to stack up and get better again. The team played so hard. They gave me a Great Fathers day present an season. They were awesome. We love our warriors. And a lot of people do. The team and the fans remain optimistic. They are looking towards next season. Now, outside oracle arena and around the city of Oakland Police were on standby in case there were problems after the game. There was one report of a sideshow in east oakland and some bottles were thrown at police at 105th and eads, but no injuries are reported. The close game and then the loss seemed to take almost all the energy out of warriors fans. Some of the people who gathered at bars and restaurants and were ready to celebrate, they just seemed dazed when that final buzzer sounded. They walked quietly out the doors, headed into almost empty streets, trying to process what had just happened. I dont know, man. It just seemed like they broke down, man, as a team, you know . They didnt have that same tenacity that they had through the season. I am like heartbroken inside. I have been cheering them on all season and this is a heartbreaking loss. Yeah. One fan we talked with said it felt like the game was payback for what the warriors did in cleveland last year. She took the high road, saying the cavaliers played really hard. She is already looking ahead to next season. A fan inside oracle fell from the second level right after the game. Police say the man in his 20s was involved in some kind of altercation and then fell over a railing. He was taken to the hospital. Was reported in critical but stable condition. No arrests have been made. Police are still investigating. During the game Oakland Police made one arrest, issued five citation, and ejected two fans. In cleveland, tens of thousands celebrated in the streets after the game. Yeah, looks like thats a police car underneath their feet. Some fans heavily damaged that car. No injuries were inside. People have been gathering near the arena to watch the game and to later celebrate. Cleveland police say not many arrests were made. Our time is now 7 10. Meantime, more than 50 people in San Francisco have been displaced after a huge Apartment Building fire over the weekend. It was a fivealarm fire. It took crews hours to put it out. There is a lot of questions about how it started. Ktvus brian flores in San Francisco right now in the mission district. Whats going on today, and might this fire have been prevented . Reporter well, thats the question that hopefully fire investigators will have answered sooner rather than later. This is whats left of that huge fire from over the weekend that started on saturday afternoon. Lots of damage to the building. You can see San Francisco police, even though this fire started on saturday afternoon, they continue to block off a portion of 29 from mission to san jose avenue. As you mentioned, the key here is figuring out exactly how this fire started. First i want to show you again how intense this fire got. Again on saturday afternoon just after 2 00 here. This was a fivealarm fire that took firefighters close to four hours to put out on mission and 29th. About six buildings overall were reportedly affected. Luckily, nobody was killed. There were some moderate injuries. Reportedly, mostly smoke inhalation concerns. According to the chronicle, at least 58 people now are displaced, including some children. Firefighters remained here over the weekend just in case of any flareups. So we keep the hose lines out right here and ready just in case another fire breaks out. We will be here to handle it. We usually do it for 24 hours after a big fire. Reporter now, the paper is also reported that residents living at a hotel called the graywood had filed more than 50 complaints over the past 20 years resulting in numerous citations. The chronicle reports some of those citations include things from a heating system being installed without a permit, Circuit Breakers tripping up at times, and even complaints of wastewater coming into the units. But as we take it back out here live again, lots of damage from this fire over the weekend. Some of the buildings got more damage than others. Heavy damage on one building. This Hardware Store, there is some units up there. There is some belongings. Those guitars look salvageable. We understand some of the residents may be able to return this morning. Unclear if they will be allowed to retrieve some of their belongings. A hotel damaged. A bar. A Hardware Store. Another apartment complex nearby. Still lots of Unanswered Questions when it comes to this huge fire that happened over the weekend. Dave, back to you. All right. Brian flores in San Francisco. Thank you. All right. Time now is 7 13. It is heating up in the bay area. In 20 minutes, we will tell you why the rising temperatures have local firefighters on high alert. Also, new developments into the investigation of the orlando nightclub shootings. The evidence being made public today that could tell us more about the gunman. Good morning. We are looking at a commute where traffic is doing pretty well. If you are driving on eastshore freeway, we will tell you more about the commute when we come back. A little bit of fog on parts of the coast in the city. Inland temps will warm up. Its not going to be record setting warm, but it will still be above religious. We will show you the monday temps for this first day of summer. Welcome back to mornings on 2. Its 7 16. The Public Memorials continue in orlando for the 49 People Killed in the pulse nightclub shooting eight days ago. Last night this happened. Thousands of mourners held an outdoor candlelight vigil in downtown orlando for the victims. A separate Church Service was held nearby. Now, the fbi is still investigating how much help, if any, the shooter may have had to carry out and plan the attack. Tomorrow u. S. Attorney general Loretta Lynch will fly to orlando for an update on the investigation, and later today a partial transcript of the gunmans conversations with police while he was still in the club are due to be released. The u. S. Senate is expected to vote today on four gun control measures. They are all expected to fail. Democrats are pushing for tougher gun controls. Californias senior senator Dianne Feinstein wants to give the attorney general to ban gun sales to suspected terrorists on watch list. We have a strong Law Enforcement interest in protecting the types of investigations that in fact put people on the watch list or that may be around the individuals. Those guns were banned in paris and it didnt stop that terrorist attack. They were banned in brussels. They were banned in california and it didnt stop san bernardino. The point is criminals and terrorists are not deterred by one more gun control law when they are willing to walk into a gunfree club and commit murder with a firearm. Susan coombes maine is working on a compromise that might get enough support for approval later this week. Another hearing about guns is set in connecticut. This one has the families of nine children and adults killed in the 2012 Sandy Hook School shooting, they will be taking on the fun maker remington. They say the gun maker knew the ar15 style gun was intended for military use only and was too dangerous to sell to civilians. Remington says a law shields gun makers for criminal use of their products. All right. Time now 7 18. Lets head over to Sal Castaneda for a check on how the roads are shaping up on this first day of summer. It looks okay. We are looking at some of the east bay communities. They recovered after a rough start on some freeways. Highway 24 westbound though has been looking okay. Its a little bit slow to the lafayette bart station. It slows from marinda crossroads to the tunnel. No major problems coming down the hill to the 580 interchange. At the bay bridge there is a backup of 25 to 30 minutes, and the commute continues to look okay if you are driving through. Its not a huge commute. Southbound 880 though is going to be slow coming out of the hayward area. You will see the slow traffic beginning mere 238. 680 has improved quite a bit. It was backed up quite a bit. There is a backup here, but its only out of the dublin grade. It starts Getting Better as you get out of the pleasanton city limits. 7 19. Lets go to steve with the weather. Thank you, sal. Well, we have a little bit of a difference here between the coast and inland where there will probably be a 35degree spread on some of the temps. Most locations sunshine today. Some thick fog though parts of marin county on the san mateo coast. A little bit in the city. But thats about where its going to stay. It will burn off pretty quick. Summer begins officially today at 3 34 p. M. We had our june full moon at 4 02 this morning. Just me quite the temperature difference in clayton. I added that its 66 degrees at Black Diamond at 1600 feet. If you are a hiker or mountain biker, you know that area well. There is some warm air aloft and Cool Temperatures near the surface. They wont last very long. The nights are too short. San jose climatology 87 60. Average 82 57. Above on both. The record is 102 in 1973. 36 in 1893 for the record low. I love those record lows in san jose. A few high clouds and patchy fog, but not much of a breeze yet. One at sfo west at 12. Thats helping some of that fog formation. If you are by the coast, 60s and 70s. A little bit hard to see, but there is some right there off the san mateo coast. A little bit right off San Francisco. Some in marin county. Then coming down the coast. But the key its moving more north to south than any west to southeast. Low 60s for most. A lot of 40s this morning. Already 60 in gilroy. They will be one of the warmest locations. 40s boulder creek, scots valley. Santa cruz made it to 52 this morning. Low 60s. 63 san jose state meteorology department. Baking hot in the desert southwest. Southern california. In truckee. 52 ukiah. Cool there as well. Except for the patchy fog, sunshine and warm temps. I would get used to this four corners high. It will drift north a little bit, back off a little bit, but it may be here for seven to ten days. Our temperatures, they are not extreme, but they are warming up. Patchy morning fog, sunny, warmer for almost everyone. 80s and 90s in the inland. Above average temps. Summer arrives today. 60s for some. 70s. You wont have to go far to find 80s and also 90s.
