New developments in last weekends double homicide in san jose. The eldest of two sons accused of killing their parents is due in court due to make his First Court Appearance<\/a> later today. Yeah, the man accused of being the mastermind behind this alleged murder is 22year old hasib golamrabbi, expected to make his First Court Appearance<\/a> at noon today. But before that, he gave the jail house interview with the San Francisco<\/a> chronicle as we talked about, dave, many people are wondering the reason behind the alleged killing. They are charged in the conspiracy to get a green card for the sister by paying a friend 200 a month for a sham marriage. Gun control advocates, they are taking bold action to toughen californias already tough gun laws. Lieutenant governor gavin newsom says he will turn in more than half million signatures today to put a Gun Control Initiative<\/a> on the november ballot. That proposal would require background checks when you buy ammunition. It would also have a process for felons to relinquish their weapons and also require gun owners to report lost or stolen guns. A San Francisco<\/a> as San Francisco<\/a> undergoes a building boom the city is considering tougher safety rules when it comes to the construction cranes you see towering over the city. Since 2013 56 construction cranes have risen in San Francisco<\/a>. At a hearing yesterday there were calls for local regulation changes. Crane safety has captured the attention of the board of supervisor following recent fatal construction crane collapses in new york city in february and just last month in florida. The city is considering changes such as having onsite safety inspectors and requiring a flagperson to be onsite when the crane lifts loads over roads or sidewalks. In baltimore, a man wearing some kind of animal costume was shot by police after he walked into a fox tv station claiming he had a bomb. This happened yesterday. The man walked into the station, demanded that they cover a specific news story, then threatened to blow up the station. And what is believed to be his car was found with flames coming out of the gas tank. Employees were immediately evacuated out of the building and the police were called. Several of us were on the other side of the street. We could see the guy pacing back and forth, sitting there just standing like just relaxed and he had on the suit but his jacket was open and he had a red vest. He had a red vest on and you could see the red vest with something, some device and he was holding like a flash drive and something that he could probably set a bomb off. He was later shot. He refused police calls for him to take his hands out of his pocket. The man survived that shooting. Hes now in a baltimore hospital. Doctors, nurses and dozens of other workers at San Francisco<\/a> General Hospital<\/a> are demanding action saying theres a crisis involving their patients. They rallied outside the hospital yesterday saying the psychiatric unit is in a state of emergency. A registered nurse who works in that unit says a frequent they frequently turn away Mental Health<\/a> patients because of staffing shortages. Nurses say there are also shortages in the emergency room and they fear when a new er opens next month they will be forced to treat new patients but with the same amount of staff. That means that people that are having mental crises, like suicidal ideations, they are hallucinating or they are hearing voices and they are schizophrenic, having severe depression, they need to be sent to another hospital. The San Francisco<\/a> Public Health<\/a> Department Says<\/a> it does have gaps in the Psychiatric Care<\/a> system and that its working to fill them. They are primarily in areas of nonacute hospital care. Nurses say they plan to appeal directly to city hall and mayor ed lee next to month add more staff. Police in richmond searching for the person who shot and killed a man outside of a gas station last night. It happened at the slayer row gas station valero gas station on cutting boulevard before 5 00 last night. The victim, 26yearold reginal atkinson was shot several times and died at the scene. If you have any information, call richmond police. Also richmond Police Arrested<\/a> this man, 19yearold brandon payne, for the killing of a teenaged girl from bay point on tuesday. Police say they have recovered a gun. He was arrested near the home in richmond where 16yearold Mariana Seymour<\/a> was killed. Sonoma county reporting the first case of the zika virus. The patient had traveled to Central America<\/a> and was bitten by mosquitoes. Zika virus is primarily spread by infected mosquitoes that are found in latin america and parts of the caribbean. The virus is dangerous to pregnant women especially because it can spread from a mother to her unborn baby, resulting in life altering birth defects. You can see the wind bars here, we do have that north and northwesterly breeze in store for today, but on the backside of california, we have a system that will be shifting and moving down into the weekend and that is going to switch that west northwesterly flow into a north northeasterly flow and we know when that happens, it drives the temperatures, so by tomorrow a notable warmup in store. I can tell by looking at the 880 ramp, that has emptied out rather nicely and when that happens, that means we are on the way to improvement so if youre trying to get into San Francisco<\/a> and you have a little bit of the luxury of waiting around, its probably going to get better as the morning wears on here. Taking a look at 880, slow traffic has appeared on 880 from san leandro up to oakland as it normally does. Whats gotten better is contra costa county, highway 4 is a little bit slow still but 680 looks good from the benicia bridge. We are beginning our 8 00 hour developing news from milpitas where early this morning there was an officer involved shooting. Its under investigation. Investigators say a suspect was shot and wounded. Ktvus janine de la vega, you have been there all morning. You have new developments. Reporter well, in the last 30 minutes, dave, they opened up both directions of calaveras boulevard. They were previously closed here. The one thing that is still shut down there where you see all the police cars is the northbound onramp to 680 here. Thats still closed. It looks like they have also brought in heavy equipment to clear away some brush. We are not sure if thats because there is still some evidence over there that they need to look for but they have been very meticulous in their investigation. It was a very large crime scene that stretched all the way across calaveras boulevard here to this motel where they just took down some crime tape. Now, this shooting happened just before 1 00 this morning, an officer made a traffic stop on a cadillac and pulled into the parking lot of the executive inn. Police say the officer and the suspect both exited their cars shortly after the shooting occurred. We dont know if the suspect had a weapon or what made the officer shoot. We are told the suspect ran across calaveras to the northbound 680 onramp, Police Caught<\/a> up with him in the bushes there. Motel guests say they heard two to three gunshots, some ran to the balcony and saw the suspect bleeding. He had a white shirt on and in that area, its kind of wooded so the white stands out. You can see the area in red, you know and a few people that were standing there was like, oh, look, hes slumped over. They shot him. Reporter that suspect was taken to the hospital where he is now being treated. His condition is unknown. Police tell us he is a 27year old latino man from san jose, he has three outstanding no bail warrants out for his arrest. The officer involved was not injured. Police are questioning him to figure out how this all unraveled. Police say they may release some more details later today. As far as that entrance to northbound 680 from calaveras, we are being told that it may open by 9 00 a. M. Again, that could change because we have been getting all sorts of time estimates from police throughout the morning. But right now they are saying possibly by 9 00. Back to you. Janine de la vega, thank you. Time now 8 05. The chp investigating a deadly overnight crash in san ramon. It happened shortly before midnight on interstate 680 near Bollinger Canyon<\/a> road. The chp says the driver of a sedan was killed after slamming into the back of a large crane and two southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for several hours. The chp investigation into that cause of the crash continues. Also new this morning, San Francisco<\/a> police chief greg suhr will hold a News Conference<\/a> at 11 00. These plans, obviously, would address any the same type of behavior that happened in costa mesa. Reporter in a matter of hours the convention will launch with a breakfast kicked off with trump. Protesters have pledged to come out in force. Surrounding agencies are making sure this event safe for convention goers and protesters. Police tell me they are expecting anywhere from 500 to 3000 protesters. They say currently their plan is flexible, they are even considering closing down old bayshore highway where the hyatt is located if they need to. Convention goers, though, they are focused on the political battlefield and say the states 172 delegates would be pivotal in deciding the eventual republican nominee. Depending on what happens in indiana and the other states that are remaining, this election could be decided in california. Reporter Burlingame Police<\/a> say they do have a plan in place to handle the expected protesters. They say that that plan includes a plane flying overhead to give them perspective on the crowd. They also say they are prepared to shut down old bayshore highway if necessary to accommodate the protesters and ensure the safety of everyone. In a few hours here the oldest of two brothers accused of killing his parents set to make his first appearance in the south bay courtroom. Brian flores in the newsroom now with what that brother told a local newspaper about his younger brothers role in the alleged murder. 22yearold hasib golam rabbi spoke with the San Francisco<\/a> chronicle in a jail house interview where he talks about how he says the truths of what happened coming out and how his little brother, a 17 yearold, is innocent. Many people are wondering the reason behind the alleged killing of his parents, gol lamb and golam and shamima rabbi here. He would not comment on his own guilt or innocence. His parents shot and killed in their own home in san joses evergreen neighborhood. Their bodies found after families and friends didnt hear from them for a while. San jose Police Arrested<\/a> hasib and his little brother on wednesday on suspicion of murder charges. Police have remained pretty tight lipped on a possible motive. But we went back to the neighborhood after police announced the arrests. Many were shocked and many didnt want their faces shown either.
