Pg e scheduled to begin the controversial project in sunnyvale as workers expected cut down 30 redwood trees they say are blocking access to the underground natural gas pipeline. The work is taking place in the sunnyvale victory neighborhood with some fighting this project for years questioning whether cutting down the trees is necessary. Pg e says it is a matter of public safety. Our work here specifically involves replacing 30 trees that are placed too close to the pipeline and that could block access to First Responders in an emergency. We recognize how important the trees are to the local community. We have been having meetings with them asking pg e for proof that they tested the pipeline, and theres not been a single proof that theres issues with the pipelines. Cutting down the trees is not telling us anything. The tree cutting project is part of the pg e statewide initiative to clear the gasoline obstructions from bakersfield to eureka. Law enforcement releasing details on the arson suspect in connection with the fire last month that destroyed the development under construction at the emeryvilleoakland boundary. Investigators have been combing through the wreckage since the five alarm fire on may 13. Parents and students are concerned after learning this incident unfolded nearly two weeks ago with 14 students poked with a device that another student found lying in the street. The unified schools released a statement saying that on may 26 the student discovered the used diabetic lane set, similar to this device that was found that diabetics used to poke and test the blood sugar and they reportedly found the device outside of the school. They say the student brought the device in the school and began poking multiple students. The adult solve the student with the land set and took it away and the student told the adult that no one had been pricked with the device but the school learned days later that more than a dozen students have been poked. The fremont unified schools has launched an investigation and notified public health. They said that the student responsible has been punished and they have made two rounds of calls to the students that were poked to make sure that they follow up with the doctors to get visits and blood tested, and they need to be tested for hiv and hepatitis. Those children will need to be tested for those diseases. The district said they have taken appropriate steps to protect the rest of the students at the school. We will follow up on the story and we will look to talk with parents as they arrive at the school and we will followup with the district to find out the latest information about the incident.
