other days, this is not as severe as normal. with the traffic is a little slow as you can see. it is not that bad. that is if you are driving on 580. if you are driving, let's say to the south a, this is 280 and traffic is moving along relatively well. in fact i would say it is moving really well into the southbay. on highway 80 westbound, the bay bridge, that is light. let's go back to the desk. new this morning, investigators believe a serial arsonist has struck twice again in contra costa county. to mark our first happened early this morning. this is just off highway 24. one was on one knee to drive in walnut creek and the other about 2 miles away at pacific court in lafayette. christian captain joins us from the area. you talk to the fire marshals right?>>yeah, we talked with fire marshals and we will talk to them again in a moment. first i want to show you the latest vehicle that was set on fire. this toyota highlander here in lafayette. you can see that the fire crews actually had to remove the hood to gain access to an area where they could actually put out the fire. if you look on the street you can see that there is some remnant of the foam used to put out the fire. robert marshall is joining us now from contra costa county fire to let us know the very latest about this. if you could let us know where we stand. to fires reset overnight. >>we had two fires this morning in lafayette. one in the unincorporated area and then one [ indiscernible ].>>put this in context force please, there's been a number of fires that you believe are connected. >>there have been five fires this week that you guys have been reporting on. we believe that these two ladies fires are related to those other fires. we believe that there are at least 10 fires that are all connected. through some common threads and again, we believe these to be related to the fires as well. >>very fortunate that no one has been injured so far but that doesn't mean that somebody could be injured. we're talking about a very dangerous situation.>>correct. the two fires this morning were set on the street. the other fires have been set in driveways at homes in the homes have had sleeping occupants. so, with the car that close to a structure, there's always the chance that it could spread. one of the fires in brentwood yesterday morning did start to spread to the structure was right under the bedroom of a young child. we are hoping that the public can help us out if they live in an area that had a fire recently and they can give us some information. they could call the arson tip line at 866-arson. give us any information even if you think it is not relevant. we can make that determination. even small tips can help us catch whoever is responsible. >>briefly, one of the things you talked about before was you have a lot of that you think a lot of people have video surveillance. >>cable providers are providing home security systems, you can go out and buy a number of home security systems that are just cameras to take a look at what is going on the yard, so if you live in an area and you think there was a fire, and you know there was a fire take a look through there you how dangerous the situation could have been. the fire was contained to this toyota highlander. as we showed you in the last half hour, if we look up you can see that there are trees here in the area. you can imagine how easy it would have been for the fire to have spread from the vehicle to the nearby trees and possibly to a home. certainly fire officials are looking for any information the public has to locate the serial arsonist in this case. thank you for the update. the first homicide on treasure island in years. it is now being investigated by san francisco police. man was shot and killed wednesday night inside a duplex on avenue e. there are very few details right now. the victim is a man in his 30s, we don't know his name yet. people living nearby say it is usually quiet in now 510. back here at home, a disk in healdsburg at if you truck. it led to a freeway shooting where two men were shot and wounded. it happened in the southbound lanes of highway 101 near westside road. investigators say two men had stopped at a food truck that was parked on it in spring road just off the highway. there was an argument with another person at that food truck. the chp said the two men then got back into their white honda accord, drove south on highway 101 but a short time later a truck pulled up next to their car.>>and then an unknown vehicle pulled alongside and began firing at the driver side of the victims car. both the victim and a male passenger were hits. he was able to pull to the right shoulder and stop. >>the driver and the passenger and the honda accord are in serious condition at santa rosa hospital. the fresno democrat reports the hospital was locked down. we don't know why it was extra security. the chp said it does not have a description of the year. most of that will go to k-12 education. the governor is also withholding $50 million from the university of california after an audit found the uc system he had millions of dollars in reserve accounts. he did not criticize the uc president janet napolitano. >>i'm not in the business of opining on my colleagues. so, most people think she is doing a good job. that certainly is the view of the regents. i think a lot of others.>> governor brown also said he will release the money when you see complies with the audit. the state legislature has until june 15 two approve the budget pick as republicans work to rewrite the affordable care act, the current health care law just took a big hit. aetna, the nation's third largest health insurer, is completely withdrawing from the state-based is quite impressive for may. it has to sweep and a little bit of cooler air so i think we will take off a couple of degrees on the inland highs that we chew up a lot of the low cloud deck. 60s and bond measure passed by voters last november increased property taxes for homeowners in several bay area counties to prepare the bart system. the project include $1.2 billion for power systems, $625 million for track renewal, 570 million for repairing tunnels and other structures. police in antioch are searching for a man who robbed a wells fargo bank that was inside a safeway supermarket. it happened wednesday afternoon inside the safeway on deer valley road. police say the man was wearing a mask and he had on all dark clothing when he walked up to the teller and demanded money. he escaped in a tan colored suv that had paper license plates. that was waiting outside for him. if you have any information on the car or that man, please call antioch police. palo alto police are looking for the public's help to identify a man who exposed himself on a hiking trail. authorities released the sketch of the suspect. they say he exposed himself to a woman and her young child on a trail at the palo alto bay land. she said she heard someone clear their throat as he passed by some vicious. then she saw a man. there is the sketch there. take a look. he is described as a mid-20s man with dirty blonde hair with pulled back in a ponytail. he also has tattoos on his arms and legs. new information about the races and anti-somatic incidents targeting high school students of the piedmont unified school district. ktvu news has learned several students have been suspended. earlier this week we told you about incidents that included the use of the n word and [null] salutes in the hallways. some students at piedmont and millennium high school say there were also shoved and pushed. piedmont polycarp conducting a full investigation.>>we are in the process of reaching out and interviewing students. we have also been briefed on interviews that the school district conducted. we are made privy to those contents of the interviews. and we will be using those as a basis to work with our investigation. >>on monday, school administrator is held an assembly about the dangers of hate speech the school district also issued a statement saying piedmont unified has no tolerance for bigotry. san francisco police arrested a ucsf psychiatrist and his boyfriend on charges of possessing child pornography. police say benjamin martin and doctor billy lockhart were arrested at their home on point avista terrace on tuesday. investigators say they discovered hundreds of videos and images of child pornography in their possession. they say that lockhart was even using the wi-fi network at ucsf to upload images online. in a statement, us that ucsf said they placed doctor lockhart on investigatory leave from the department of psychiatry's residency training program. it is now suspended that he is now suspended from clinical activity and access to all ucsf information systems. a former la county sheriff is scheduled to be sentenced on federal corruption charges. back in march, 74-year-old lee buckingham was convicted of a -- obstructing justice into other federal charges. prosecutor say he tried to block an fbi investigation into guards abusing inmates in his jails unified school district lost a $3 million federal grant. the money helps pay for afterschool programs. 35 schools in the city use but now it will be parents who have to pick up the tab.>>this is a little disconcerting. and what this will mean to us and two other families that are already trying to make it in san francisco. families will have to pay anywhere between $50-$500 to enroll in afterschool programs. students at the lowest economic levels will not have to pay. a federal judge. >>a federal judge approved a $1.2 million settlement that should wrap up most of the legal battles south lake tahoe, 155 inches of depth. what is it right now? that is 105 and that is still pretty good. with the cooler temperatures,, -- temperatures coming in, we might get a little bit more snow next week in the mountains. for us, mostly sunny today. there are a few clouds slipping through but wonder temps continue to be cold. i have been harping on this but it makes a huge difference in the fog machine. the inland temps are so cool and the higher levels of the atmosphere are also very cool so that doesn't support fire. the water temps are cold all the way down to santa barbara. they're slightly below average. then it's about average in southern california. northwest, west, northwest at hayward, out to the delta, as well as southwest, northwest, it's going to be a breezy day even though we have sunny skies. slightly cooler temps santa rosa is a cool 42. 50 for others. kelsey is now at 41. calistoga has dipped to 41. 43 at napa. bodega bay gazette 47. 41 in truckee. everything is coming in -- the system is to the north but we get the southern edge of it in the southern edge can rotate cool dry air. there were a few hit and miss showers to the north but i think overall the trend -- i will get out of the way. it will park here and that another system will drop in on tuesday. as you can see the extension of that, that is what has to sweep through. that's why think we keep it breezy and blustery and then take a couple of degrees off of the inland temps. i think coast and faith are stuck in the 50s or low 60s. no change there. overall, through next tuesday, very subtle changes. maybe one or 2 degrees up and down. in the big system comes in on tuesday. then we would -- we should see some warmer weather. i went out yesterday evening without a jacket because i got out of the habit and well back was it cool.>>the final movie featuring the talents of robin williams debuts today. >>the movie is called absolutely everything. robin williams is the voice of the dog. the movie is about a man who gets the power to do anything he wants. robin recorded his part back in december 2013. just a couple of months later, robin williams died. the movie by the way is rated r. so glad we have all of those movies to listen to. oh my gosh, you can't replace that voice. that talent. finding common ground. this is on the soccer field.>> when i saw the ball i [ indiscernible ]. >>we will tell you more about the event that cal stated today that had athletes of all nationalities sharing their love of soccer. welcome back. in hayward, there was a first of its kind event to bring together students from a wide range of cultural backgrounds. it was a soccer tournament for immigrants and refugees. cal stadium teamed up with soccer without borders to organize last night event. players came from 10 different countries including afghanistan, mexico, and burma. benny spoke no english when they arrived here in the united states. the cal state east bay computer science student who is an immigrant from congo along with his professor, came up with the idea to hold the tournament.>>more than just soccer, it is about winning or losing, it is about the educational aspects. feeling socially networked. and connected with people. >>i love the stadium. everybody are free to be what they want to be.>>the organizers also say the tournament is about building confidence and community of inclusion. to some spectacular will watching sites can be seen along the northern california coast, even near the bridge. while there are wheel settings from monterey bay to the marin coast, that will write their was seen wednesday near the golden gate bridge. wow the people on the whale tours saw this humpback whale breaching the surface and putting on a show. one person on board also took this photo. i love this. the humpback whale leaping out of the water posing in front of the golden gate bridge. and just holding it there. hold that pose. that is gorgeous. we are coming up on our 6:00 our. unified school district has held its fifth entry -- fifth annual honors. 200 school employees including teachers, nurses, custodians and volunteers. organizer say they hope the event would help bring the district together as a community.>>there is a lot of people in this school district that care deeply about students and we worked very hard to make it all work. we are here to celebrate that tonight. 350 people attended the event. all of the food was cooked and provided by a culinary class at mount diablo high school.>>we already know how to cook.>>an arsonist in -- hit again during the night in custer county desk custer contin county. will tell you what firefighters are investigating and what they are telling us.>>a little later, state employees are put to the test. we will tell you why their supervisors try to trick them with an email scam. >>it is getting a little more crowded out there. some commutes are getting more crowded and you can see traffic is moving along on 880.
