This morning and on a and the longawaited verdict will be announced the trial of antolin garciatorres who is accused of kidnapping and killing morgan hill teenager, sierra lamar. She bennettsville on the way to school in march 2012. Although her body has never been found, garciatorres was charged with her murder in may 2012. But because of various legal motions and the complex nature of the Death Penalty case, the trial only began in late january. That lasted more than three months but took the jury just three days to reach a verdict. Typically, a quick verdict is worse for the defendant. But a legal analyst following this trial says it could go either way. The defense was suggesting that sierra lamar is still alive and if the jury did not get past that issue, then that could be quickly decided that if she is still alive, theres no way this can be a murder. Legal experts also say without a body or murder weapon, the prosecutions case hinges on whether the jury was convinced by the dna evidence. Authorities say they found a strand of sierras hair on a rope that was in garciatorres car and that his dna was on her clothing left abandoned in a field. Pg e crews are in danville trying to restore the power which initially left about 2000 people without electricity. Lets check and with christien kafton. Youre in danville where the outage may have been caused by some trees. I know you were checking in with businesses and traffic signals. They could all be affected. Reporter yes. It could affect a wide range of customers out here. As you said, its looking like trees are the cause of this power outage. If you look over here you can see those lines are still down. The warning from pg e if you see lines like that, stay clear. We have learned in the last 15 minutes or so, we have some updated information from pg e. There was significant damage to the line. If you hundred customers may be looking at an all day outage, up to 12 hours, as crews worked to repair and restore service. We have some video we shot earlier to give you a sense of the scope of how much work we are talking about. Initially that outage knocked out power to close to 2900 customers. Crews arrived on scene to find trees had brought down the power lines. Those crews begin working quickly to reroute power to restore service to the majority of customers. Within 20 minutes, crews were able to restore service to all but about 600 customers who, we understand, are still without power at this time. Under investigation at this time, also, is what exactly brought those trees down in the first place. It was not raining last night but it was windy. That could be a possible cause for why the trees came down. Coming back to our live picture you can see at this time the homes in the area are still in the dark. Mountain Vista High School is nearby as is luceros middle school. Crews confirmed that they should have power restored to the middle school within a few minutes. That is good news. No word at this point if the overnight power outage will impact start times at those schools. Also, if you are driving through the area, be aware that the outage has knocked out power to traffic signals. If your commute takes you through the danville area, it could still affect that morning commute were trying to get a better timeline on when power will be restored. Again, the majority of customers now have power restored. Initially, 2900 customers. Now we are hearing is closer to 600. The man accused of shooting and killing a Hayward Police sergeant during a traffic stop two years ago has been ordered to stand trial. And Alameda County judge said there is powerful evidence against the suspect, 22year old mark estrada. One of the people testifying at the preliminary hearing yesterday was a fellow officer who witnessed the shooting of Sergeant Scott lunger. Estrada is charged with the murder of a peace officer with special circumstances. Prosecutors are not saying yet if they will seek the Death Penalty for estrada if found guilty. Saint john lived alone after her husband died last spring and she was killed in december. Authorities believed dacany showed up at the house to commit a burglary but then killed her when she confronted him. And at that time he killed her and then burned the residence in order to hide the evidence. Dacany was arrested in february on unrelated charges of lewd conduct with a child. While in custody, Authorities Say he implicated himself in the Castro Valley case. He does remain in the San Joaquin County jail awaiting a transfer to Alameda County. Police in fairfield are investigating a shooting where one person was killed and two others wounded. Police received several 911 calls early yesterday morning about shots fired near pennsylvania avenue. One victim died at the scene. The injured were taken to the hospital. A registered sex offender from Orange County was arrested at Santa Rosa Junior College where he was attending classes using a different name. Daniel lee was wanted in Orange County for a violation of sex offender registration requirements. The California Supreme Court issued a ruling in the states day of rest law. The court ruled californians can be required to work more than six Straight Days without overtime as long as they dont work more than six days in a single week. The state Treasurers Office said california has obtained a 500 million line of credit to fund repairs to the damaged spillways.
