Were going to check on that coming up next time. 5 02 lets go back to the desk. Firefighters continue to investigate that fire that tore through an Apartment Building in oakland yesterday. Three people are dead but a fourth person is still unaccounted for. You were watching it here with us on mornings on 2. Ktvus lee martinez youre out there now. Tell us how some of the residents claim that building was not safe. Reporter well the cause of the fire is still under investigation but a few residents told us they believe it started inside one apartment because that resident did not have working electricity. Weve got records showing that fire inspectors were here eight days ago. This video was taken by oakland firefighters after they got the call at 5 40 a. M. Hours later the 82unit Apartment Building was still burning. Others made it to one of the two fire escapes. Firefighters say tle rescued 15 people. Marcelio harris says he was treated for smoke inhalation. The guys lights wept out okay. And we gave him a big flashlight for his house where he went and lit some candles. The candles fell over and so when the fire started it started on like a blanket. Because if we would of had the fire extinguishers we could have put that out. Unless they had sprinklers it would have went out. As many as 800 residents out in the cold. Two victims were found on the second tloor. Later crews floor. Later crews found a third body. The Coroners Office says the victims are two men and one woman. One man has been identified as edwin anderson. As you heard the last couple of visits there were some violations that were found. Harris had told us that this had installed some smoke detectors but he only heard them go off for about a second. When crews arrived they did not hear any fire alarms going off. The and east bay leaders say theyre disappointed, angry that the nfl owners voted 331. The Oakland County is examining its legal options. The chronicle reports that attorneys could essentially argue that raiders owner mark davis negotiated in bad faith and refused to meet with mayor libby shaf. We have agreed to not negotiate in the press or the public. But we felt at this point that we needed to tell our story to our public. Now mayor shaf says the city had a good and sound plan for building a privately funded stadium for the raiders. But the city refused to evict the oakland as so the raiders would get preference of a site. This year the raiders will play at the Oakland Coliseum and they may extnd their lease. At the same time the raiders are building a 1 1. 9 billion stadium in las vegas. There was a last minute push by the city of oakland and the feeling by raider fans that somehow this just couldnt be happening. Somehow in the end mark davis got his wish of moving the team to las vegas. Usa know we just finish as you know we just finished a very important conversation. Owners approved overwhelmingly. I think anybody that has visited oakland understands the situation was difficult at best. Um, i have mixed feemings obviously. I love oakland. I love the fans in oakland and i know theres going to be some disappointment and maybe some anger and i just hope in the future the fans understand it wasnt the players, it wasnt the coaches that made this decision. As much regret that may have been expressed it all came down to the owners wanting to make sure 750 million of public money made its way into their pockets. We think this will lead to a more stable franchise. Thats the goal of all of us in the league and to have 32 clubs that are all strong. At least one fan group isnt giving up. P says a bull wandered onto the freeway and caused six cars to crash as they tried to avoid the animal. At least one person was taken to the hospital the bull was hit and killed. Another part of the east bay are still talking about this morning how a horse and a mule ended up running around on a freeway. It happened yesterday morning right there on interstate 680 in walnut creek. The mule broke through a fence in alamo then ran down 680. They were safely returned to their owners and no one was hurt. But those cities and counties that defy the administration are taking a big hit especially for those who rely on federal cash. Time is now 5 24 last night the city of pittsburgh decided on whether to declare itself a sanctuary city. Monitors were set up outside the meeting room. Supporters of the sanctuary city urged city council to show concern for undocumented immigrants. While the critics say the risk of losing federal funding is too high a price to pay. Pittsburgh police told the crowd that even without an official sanctuary city designation they will not ask the immigration status of people they come in contact with. If these are our values if this is a policy that already exists all were asking is to codify. This shows a complete lack of respect for the law and it cannot go unchallenged by the citizens. And in the end the Pittsburgh City council decided not to move ahead with the sanctuary city declaration. City councilman larry reed spoke out yesterday says he did you want want the team here anymore. He says hes looking into options to basically tell them to take a hike as soon as possible. We see this a lot in the nfl. Alex savidge at the coliseum. Well talk to you later. Well a Santa Clara County jail inmate was stabbed 40 times by two other inmates. Now the inmates at the main jail used metal neeus that they made themselves. The Sheriffs Office is not releasing the video but deputies say the attack was vicious and unprovoked. The force of the attack actually caused those homemade knives to bend and that likely saved the inmates life. While his back was turned these two inmates began stabbing him multiple times in the head, in his back in the sides with a manufactured weapon. The victim sustained several puncture wounds many lacerations throughout as body to include significant damage to his head. The 22 and 24yearold suspects are in jail facing murder and attempted murder charges. Sources say the attack was gang related. Time is 5 36 a man charged with kidnapping a 13yearold girl in San Francisco last week will stay in jail. The judge agreed with prosecutors. The 27yearold lee igle is a danger to the community and should stay in jail. Igle is facing six felony charges including kidnapping and assault with attempt to kidnap a minor. Witnesses heard her screaming and they pulled her out of this car. They did get a partial license plate number and police found igle just hours later. Last week ig. Les mother told us her son is probably not mentally healthy. His lawyer may use that in his defense. We believe theres more information that will come to light. Its important for the public to know that lee say lifetime San Francisco resident with zero criminal record of any kind. Now his Attorney Says igle will enter a not guilty plea when he is back in court on april 5th. He could get life in prison. An employee at teslas factory in fremont has filed a lawsuit against the company claiming Sexual Harassment on the job. To work at the tesla factory in 2015. Theyre going to be taking it apart piece by piece. Its 288 feet tall. You can see it sticking out of the bay. This is the 19th and final truss of the old bridge to be demolished. It will be loaded onto barges. Theres going to be no public viewing of the process but we will be able to see it here where we are. Caltrans posted these time lapse videos of a truss being removed earlier this month. The first phase of the project which involved removing the canalibra section is finisheded. And now caltrans is wrapping up the second phase and the third phase which has to do with eliminating some of the under water foundation. Thats going to get started here in the next couple of years. Yeah, weve seen hail breaking windows of cars, baseballsized hail shattered car windows. People who have lived in texas for years say theyve never seen hail quite like this. Just like a stampede and all of a sudden just loud thuds hitting our skyline and it sounds like glass breaking. Ive lived here my whole life ive never seen hail that bad. We were in awe. It was unbelievable. Tornados have touched down in other parts of texas. Of the strong storms are expected to continue for the rest of the week. Just hours ago a powerful cyclone slammed into the northeastern coast of australia. Cyclone debbie hit land in northern queensland has a category four storm. It had 160 miles an hour winds just blowing things everywhere. There is major damage as you can imagine. The cyclone has forced tens of thousands of people to evacuate. It also has caused massive Power Outages as well. Big pieces of metal blowing around like paper. Good thing here we have very nice weather. Thats always good news to the commute. I am talking about a bunch of slow traffic. 15 miles an hour as you drive over the altman pass. You might want to leave 15 minutes early if you have that. A little bhit slow near the hayward exits but after that in union city and fremont it looks okay. This is a look at interstate 880 in Oakland North and southbound traffic is not bad and at the bay bridge we see traffic backed up for about a 10minute wait. 5 47. Lets bring steve in. They were riding an escalator in a shopping mall. The escalator suddenly started going in rerers and then it sped up. People were thrown to the ground as they got to the bottom. Believe it or not that escalator had just passed a Safety Inspection last week. The contractor in charge of taking care of the escalator is now trying to figure out what went wrong. Time is 5 50 back here at home bart trains are running on time this morning after yesterday morning system wide delays. Downed power lines on bart tracks in oakland caused all kinds of problems for the morning commute. A kwar crashed into a power pole near the west oakland station. That station shut down and bart suspended service for an hour while the crews cleared the tracks. Meantime passengers were evacuated from trains. They were forced to find some other way to get around. Some of them turned to buses or ferries. Others were calling lyft or uber. The chronicle reports prices for the Ride Share Services jumped 200 or more during that rush. Uber says it is now resuming its selfdriving car program in arizona after a crash friday night. The Ride Sharing Company briefly suspended the test program after that accident. But investigators have determined that the uber car was not at fault.
