Traffic is a little bit busy as you drive through. You can see traffic is slow but gets better by liver more and dublin. No trouble in the east bay so far. Traffic is light. We have a problem highway 101 at embarcadero with two lanes taken away by a truck accident overnight. We will have live reports from the scene. The alternate route is 280. This problem will be going on for a while. Lets look at interstate 880. You see traffic is moving along well if you are driving past the colosseum. At the bay bridge toll plaza, you can see traffic is going to be a little bit not slow at all. Sometimes it is slow but this morning it is not. 5 02. Back to the desk. You heard sal. We are starting with a shut down of a major freeway that will affect todays commute in the south bay and on the peninsula. Two lanes of south bound highway 101 in palo alto are still closed because of an accident involving a dump truck. We had pictures of the part of the truck lodged into the over pass. Reporter the dump truck is gone but its impression is still here on the over pass. We are down to two lanes. Fortunately, traffic is moving pretty well and we are seeing traffic above on the over pass, the embarcadero over pass right there. We are seeing traffic moving pretty well this morning despite having two lanes shut down. We do have a construction project on 101 both lanes, north and south bound, for 300 or 400 yards. Thats where this dump truck was working last night a little after 10 30. He left the construction site and he ended up not lowering down the bed to his truck. When he hit the over pass, he hit with such force that the bed top of the truck ended up hitting the over pass and jammed in there. It lifted up the truck. When the truck came slamming down on the ground, the driver of the truck ended up hitting his head on the steering wheel. We were told he ended up going to the hospital with an injury. The bed of the truck ended upcoming off of the hydraulics and getting stuck up there. We had to have cal trans come out and take a look at the damage, take a look at the integrity of this over pass. They ended up shutting down two lanes just as a precaution. We have seen cal trans out here. The big rig did come by and use cables to take away the dump truck. We are back out here and there are two lanes working now. Cal trans is out here and will be looking at the integrity of the over pass. Police in santa clara arrested a monday accused of having child pornography. 63 year old david bruce lang, chief financial asker of the bill wilson center, youth and Family Services organization, was arrested yesterday. He is being held at the Santa Clara County jail right now. If you have any information about him, get in contact with santa clara police. There are several developments regarding that landslide on Morgan Territory road in contra costa. The chp reports there was more movement on the landslide overnight. One week ago you might remember it collapsed a section of the road which runs along the eastern side between clayton and liver more. Last night county officials held a Community Meeting to say Morgan Territory road will stay closed for months. They did not give a specific time. Even though it has not rained for a few days, the slide as we said is still moving. It is about 400 feet long. The north end of the road provided access to clayton and brentwood are cut off. We will be going to the board of Supervisors Office specifically to claim an emergency status for this project which will give the county more authority to move faster with contracting. There is some good news. Last night the water was turned on for people in the area. They have been without Running Water for a week. A gio Technical Company has been hired to analyze the slide. The time is 5 06. Two suspects were arrested accused of shooting at an off Duty Oakland Police officer on interstate 880. He was driving south in his personal car when sun in a Ford Explorer fired shots near the 16 16th avenue exit. A bullet hit the officers car but he was not hurt. Reportedly the people in the explorer may not have known they were shooting at a Police Officer. It is not clear what led to the shooting. Police found the explorer in east oakland but they lost it in a chase. The suv was later found abandoned after a crash. The suspects were arrested after a search overnight. 5 07. President trump is tweeting this morning that the u. S. Attorney general Jeff Sessions is an honest man who is the victim of a witch hunt by democrats. Many Democratic Leaders and lawmakers want Jeff Sessions to resign after it was revealed he did not disclose meeting with Russian Ambassador to the United States during the president ial campaign. Yesterday Jeff Sessions bowed to pressure and removed himself from any investigation into possible connections between the Trump Campaign and russia. Recuse myself in the matters that deal with the Trump Campaign. Reporter the fact that the attorney general, the top cop in our country, lied under oath to the American People is grounds for him to resign. President trump says he has total confidence in Jeff Sessions and his ability to continue to serve as attorney general. Former Texas Governor rick perry is officially the new energy secretary. Like the president , ben carson has no previous political or government experience. He is seen as a washington outsider. Hundreds of people plan to gather in berkley to show support for president trump. The event is called march for trump. It is one of dozens of marches held nationwide but the only one planned for the bay area. That is set to begin at 2 00 in the afternoon at Martin Luther king civic park. There are reports of possible counter protests including from groups that organized the violent protest last month. Also happening today, emergency supplies are scheduled to be airlifted to parts of big sir. Supplies will be sent to areas shut off because of the mudslides and the collapse of the bridge. About 450 people are living in the affected area. Crews will fly in food, pet food, and fuel to both people and businesses there. Officials estimate it will take about 11 helicopter trips. The county is paying the bill. The cost is 20,000. Crews have been busy clearing the slide. The road can open on march 13. The bridge will be demolished. Officials in nebraska expected to release details after two inmates were killed in whats described as a revolt at a prison. It involved 40 inmate. Two died and several others injured when a fire was set in the courtyard and the facilities was on lock down for several hours. Officials were able to put out the fire and got inmates back to the cells. No prison employees were injured. The wife of the Orlando Night Club shooter is still in a dublin jail cell. Shes been there since being arrested in january at her mothers home. Shes accused of helping her husband look for potential targets including Pulse Night Club in florida. Wednesday a federal judge in orlando in oakland approved releasing her on half Million Dollars bail while awaiting trial in florida. There is a Catholic High School in Mountain View thats made between 20 and 50 million off of snaps ipo. St. Francis high school invested 15,000 in the start up company five years ago. Investigators say a swat team searched the apartment of marcus jones and say they found several weapons including an Assault Rifle and three hand guns. A family is waking up without a home after a fire tore through their house. It happened yesterday afternoon near springs road. The valejo Fire Department posted this video on their facebook showing the fire and damage. Half of the home was already engulfed when crews arrived. Firefighters were able to put it out and save the family dog that was trapped in the yard. The house was a total loss. No one was home at the time and the cause is under investigation. Funeral services are taking place today for a fallen Alameda County sheriffs deputy. Deputy Michael Foley died last thursday. He was hit by a Sheriffs Department bus in dublin. Michael foley served 30 years as a concord Police Officer and then joined alameda Sheriffs Office as a deputy serving ten more years earning money to pay for his 18 year old sons college education. He died thursday one day after he was struck by a bus in an accident at the jail. His family and friends say while he was a dedicated Law Enforcement officer, they will miss the man behind the badge, the man who devoted himself to his family. Mike had set goals for his family. Thats why he was working so hard, for his family. I think everybody can relate to that and appreciate that. It shows you, once again, the character of the person that he was. The Funeral Services are set to be underway at 11 00 at the Concord Pavilion. Bart is being sued by the family of a 12 year old boy who says he was robbed at gun point moments after walking off a bart train. This happened in april. He was heading home from lacrosse practice in oakland. His mother says a man stopped him at the station, jammed a gun into his side, and searched him. He was able to get away. His mother who does not want to be identified says bart has not done enough to catch the attacker even though her son helped investigators make up a sketch. My sons quality of life has definitely changed. You know, he has struggled with sleeping, having to be dependent on medication. We dont send every sketch to the media. Its obviously a call that you make if its something we feel that the media or the public may play a role in helping. Bart says it did share the sketch with local Law Enforcement agencies and it is upgrading Security Camera systems in july. The family is suing for compensation of costs related to psychological and emotional support for the now 13 year old boy. A man who jumped off a pier along San Francisco water front is safe after a dramatic rescue. It happened yesterday afternoon at pier 23 and people at the pier 23 restaurant watched as a man jumped into the water and started swimming around. Eventually it looked like he was starting to struggle. People at the bar lowered a ladder and even tried to form a human chain to get him out. When he started going under water, two people at the bar jumped in. His head started dipping under the water. He took a couple gulps and at that instant, it was into the water. We jumped in and i think our feet hit the water at the same time. We just kind of saw that thats not going to happen today. That last man says he is a former life guard. The pair managed to pull the man to safety and he was conscious when paramedics arrived. It is not clear why he jumped in the water in the first place. Oakland suing a major hotel chain over wages. The suit names quality inn on Enterprise Way and its Parent Company Choice Hotels international. The city says the hotel forced employees to work off the clock and without pay and then retaliated against employees for calling in sick. A spokes woman for Choice Hotels did not comment directly but says that the oakland of the quality inn is responsible for owner of the quality inn is responsible for the lawsuit. Several big name silicone valley Tech Companies supporting a virginia Transgender High School student in a legal case that will be heard by the u. S. Supreme court later this month. This student was born female but identifies as male. 17 years old, suing for the right to use School Bathrooms that reflect his gender identity. Apple, twitter, sales force are among the 53 companies that signed a legal brief saying they serve and employ transgender people who would be hurt by bathroom restrictions. The California Supreme Court ruled that government e mails sent from personal phones of state officials are public records. Ruling involves a law suit about development in downtown san jose. Lawyers wanted access to private devices used by san jose mayor and city council members. There is a new measure making its way through state legislature. It would set legal limits on driving while under the influence of marijuana. Experts say the current state law isnt clear enough on how to determine if someone is too high to drive. San mateo state senator jerry hill wrote the new bill. If you have. 04 alcohol whereas today it is. 08 blood alcohol content then you are impaired. If you have. 04 and 5 5nano grams of delta thc or other drug in your system you will be considered impaired for driving and you can be cited for a dui. Lawmakers say the bill is a temporary fix ahead of a new state law that legalized Recreational Marijuana use. One problem is a lack of a blood test to accurately measure impairment caused by marijuana. Uber says it will apply for a permit in california to test its self driving cars. Previously the Company Refused to apply for the self driving permit arguing that since human drivers were behind the wheel it wasnt necessary. So uber moved the fleet to arizona. Its not clear when ubers self driving cars might be back on california roads. 5 39. Marin leaders caring proposals to ease traffic jams by allowing buses to drive on the shoulders of highway 101 during rush hour. Transportation authority has applied to cal trans for a Pilot Program allowing buses to use shoulders along a ten mile stretch between the North San Pedro exit to san rafael. Instead of sitting in traffic and clogging the road the buses could bypass other vehicles but they would have to drive slower. Doing this safely is our number one priority. We do have to consider traffic entering the freeway. They may be stopping at a ramp meter. While buses are allowed on freeway shoulders in minnesota, that idea has not been tried in california. If approved, it would still take two or three years before the proposal really takes effect. Very interesting idea. 5 40 is the time. National park service installed 16 new fire pit rings available on first come, first serve basis. Groups up to 25 are allowed to light fires until 9 30 p. M. The park Service Allows beach fires in those 16 designated areas between now and november 1. The bay area is home to the 5th deadliest National Park in the country. A new report shows Golden Gate National Recreation Area had 85 deaths from 2006 to 2016. The area stretches from marininto San Francisco and a few parts of san mateo. The number one cause of death in all National Parks is drowning. The golden gate Recreational Area has beaches. Other causes of death involve falling from cliffs. 5 44. Violent storms caused destruction and damage from the midwest to the east coast. Areas along the east coast were hit yesterday with heavy winds that knocked down trees from maine all the way to south carolina. A falling tree is blamed for killing a man in southern massachusetts.
