A lot going on. 880, 580 and surface roads, we are checking and we dont see much. Traffic looks good in both directions. San mateo bridge, traffic looks good, and the dunn barton bridge. The roads are clear right now. 4 31, lets go back to the death this among, San Leandro Police are investigating a shooting at the bay fair mall. This looks like some type of targeted argument thats what it sound like, some type of a gun battle. Police dont think that anybody was hit by the gunfire so thats good news but you can imagine the scary situation for shoppers shall anybody in this area because shots were being fired right here in this area of the parking lot, in front of the Old Navy Store and the bed, bath and beyond and this happened during what was likely a very busy time. The area was locked down following the gunfire. Witnesses described this as a shootout between two men in a car and two people walking nearby. When police got here, they did find a car that was hit by bullets. Not long after the shooting, police did detain two men inside the mall and both are being questioned about what happened. Police dont think that anybody was hurt out here but they are working to make sure. Police detectives are checking with local area hospitals, because of the fact that we dont know if we identified or located all of the people that are involved in this. Right now, we are checking to make sure that no other gunshot victims have shown up at a local hospital for treatment that could have before involved in tonights incidents. Police are not sure what prompted last nights shooting, what the motive may have been but they are investigating. They are also checking Surveillance Video from the bay fair mall here and trying to figure out if that may help them in any way and talking to any witnesses as possible out here. So far, no arrests have been made in connection with this shooting. The good news is that nobody apparently was hit by gunfire here but the shooting played out in a very public place, a very dangerous situation for a lot of innocent people. I would say, very scary. But i would imagine, sin the time of the day that it happened, there would be a lot of witnesses for them to talk to. I would imagine so. Sounds like police had a list of folks of people in the area and may have seen something. The reason they detained those two men inside the mall last night following the gunfire is because they got reports from witnesses about those two men running through the mall. So thats why they were detained. Unclear if they have any involvement, still. They are still sorting all of this out. Certainly a lot of people in this area when this happened. Planned parenthood is suing antiabortion activists for what they say is a smear campaign. Activists from the center for medical progress had been targeting the group with undercover video since last july. The antiabortion group says that it reveals planned parenthood selling fetal parts. But planned parenthood said that the videos were illegally obtained and deceiving trump brought up the question about tez cruds citizenship. After 30 years of protecting his hometown, San Jose Police chief Larry Esquivel is turning in his badge, retiring and heading to tracy to be the new plays cleave. Reporter Larry Esquivel is spending his last day as chief thanking his staff and community. The people, he says, is what he will miss the most after 30 years. The sheriff says that some immigrants have questioned her motives. You think this means that the federal government is going to swoop down and start taking them away. Thats not the case. What we are talking about here is looking at peoples criminal history for serious and violent convictions. Sanchez claims that the gun he was holding accidently went off, striking steinle as she walked with her father. And people are looking into whether a series of attacks were corrected in the Mission District. Man was wearing a hoody, beat a pedestrian over the head with a hammer. A few hours later, another man was shot, ran into a bar for help. A bullet grazed the shoulder of the woman inside. Then in the evening, a mob of about ten men attacked two people waiting at a bus stop and tabbed them several times. As you can imagine, it was violent. They were outnumbered. Well tell you about a bay area Animal Shelter that plans to off free adoption this weekend. A tour bus on its way to a ski resort in japan slid down a Mountain Side killing at least 14 passengers and injuring 27 others. The bus veered off to the opposite lane on a mountain road, ramming through a guardrail and slamming down the Mountain Side. The bus was carrying 41 people, including two drivers taking turns. There was no snow or ice on the road at the time. And a ktvu fox news exclusive, we sat down and interviewed some of the First Responders at the berkeley balcony relapse. You may remember the garden apartment complex packed with young people celebrating a friends 211th birthday. That balcony gave way, killing seven people and injuring 20 others. Officers grieved with the victims family, found comfort in the gratitude show to them by the count the city of oakland has taken the extraordinary step of taking a restraining order against a man who applied to be a firefighter. Stephen aldridge gave him a conditional offers of employment. The off was rescinded after it was revealed that he is a registered sex offender because of a 1991 rape conviction. The city took out a restraining order after he began stalking some firefighters. According to court records, aldridge has engaged in, quote, increasingly erratic, threatening and violent behavior at various Fire Department personnel. The individual is studios and composed at times and in other instances, very erratic and altered, if you will. Rank and file firefighters say that this incident cast a negative light on the departments hiring process and background checks are not done until later in the process because it would be too expensive to check everyone who applies.
