Right now you have a pretty decent crowd coming up to the bay bridge toll plaza. No major problems. Also looking at the commute here on interstate 880. The traffic continues to look good in both directions right in front of the hackenberg rode offramp. Also looking at the peninsula, if youre trying to get to San Francisco international airport, no major proble. As a matter of fact, travel is going to be very important. So were watching airport especially closely. Right now we have no trouble at any of the three airports or getting there on the highways. 4 31. Lets go back to the desk. Apartment fire in berkeley for 30 people out of their home and damaged a wellknown books bookstore. Allie rasmus joins us now from berkeley. Alley, what happened . Reporter thats what investigators are still trying to figure out. Theres a fire truck out here, its been out here overnight, just keeping an eye in case there are hotspots. The building affected is right above it on the Court Directs of telegraph and white, this is a three to four story building, almost a half block long. Apartments units and businesses on the bottom. Its hard to see the damage from out in front but the fire started inside this building in the back corner, above the bleecker bistro on the corner around 5 30 yesterday evening. Again, no word yet on exactly how it started but about 30 people who lived in this building were displaced by the fighter. Firefighters say when they arrived, most of the people had already evacuated the building. So no one was seriously hurt. A man who lives across the hall from the apartment says he helped rescue his neighbor who was in a wheelchair. The whole front door of his apartment exploded off its hinges. And i obviously got a little singed from the fire there. And we did manage to get him out before the smoke got too bad. It was filling up the entire fourth floor. Theres a some businesses on the ground floor of this Apartment Building as we showed you. A couple cafes and most notably most books. Its been a staple here for decades moes books. Taking a look outside, you can see the lights are on, the window display, all the books seemed to be intact so its not clear if most of the damage is on one of the upper floors or in the back storage area. The future of these businesses, whether they are open today, is kind of unclear. As for the residents who live, 30 people who live in this building, we know they have been displaced. Soldiers are patrolling the streets there. They are also carrying out raids. So far 21 people have been detained. After landing, police cleared the plane, used bombsniffing dogs to search it. At least one person says the unruly passengers didnt seem like much of a threat. Police found nothing during their search. The three detained passengers were allowed to take another flight, and no charges were filed. Easy thanksgiving Holiday Travel period continues today across the bay area. The airports were packed this weekend with people trying to get off to their destinations. Sfl is predicting more than 3 million travelers will come through the airport from now through january for which is a jump of nearly 8 from last year. People are urged to take Public Transit since parking lots will be full. Bart is giving Holiday Travelers an extra boost. The Transit Agency is reserving an additional 400 Parking Spaces for people with plans to take part to take flights out of oakland or sfo. Longterm parking costs five or 7 a day. The busiest week of the year for amtrak. And check is adding more servers two lines here in the bay area and across california to accommodate some big crowds. Last year amtrak carried a record 772,000 passengers during the thanksgiving travel period. Just a reminder if youre going to hit the road this Holiday Season, youll notice a lot of law enforcement. The chp will be stepping up patrols through the thanksgiving holiday. Officers will be on the lookout for people who may be breaking the law. That includes people who speed or drive under the influence. The maximum enforcement period starts on wednesday at 6 00 p. M. And it continues through sunday, the sunday after thanksgiving. If youre driving, youll be spending a lot less on gas this month. National average for a gallon of regular is now 2. 07. Thats down 0. 14 from last month. And 0. 75 decrease from this time last year. Analysts say if gas prices continue to slip, the National Average could be less than 2 a gallon by christmas, which would be the lowest level in seven years. Theres going to be more snow, precipitation thing rain here but the sierra could get easily 10 to 20 inches of snow between tuesday, wednesday and thursday.
