Seven High School Students had to be taken to a hospital in walnut creek after the bus they were riding on caught fire last night. The bus was carrying about 40 teens from arizona to a sign language event. They were on southbound i680 when the driver noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus and he pulled over to the side of the freeway. Contra costa sheriffs Deputy Anthony coniglio also saw the problem and stopped to help. There was a lot of smoke. Many of the kids teens from out of state on a. Police say she was on commercial avenue with her younger brother when a car came by and hit her. She was rushed to San FranciscoGeneral Hospital but her injuries are not considered life threatening. Police say the driver, 26year old Alberto Marquez gomez failed a sobriety test, booked into jail on a felony dui charge. Napa police are looking at more details about a suspect. They were already at the napa home when the 41yearold suspect James Richard jimenez rode up on a motorcycle. Officers say he recognized them and sped away. They chased him for a few blocks before he crashed. When officers moved in they say he reached for a handgun at his waist and that is when a officer fired three shots killing him. Police recovered a gun, methamphetamine and large amount of cash. His family held a vigil last night. They say he was a good man who didnt need to die. A protest is planned in downtown santa rosa today in recognition of the 19th anual International Day against police brutality. The protests begin after an informational session about how to engage safely with police. It starts 3 00 this afternoon at courthouse square. We have more details on racist texts allegedly sent by convicted San FranciscoPolice Officer ian ferminer and four coworkers. The texts made public when filed in Court Documents friday. They were used to argue against allowing him out on bail. He was convicted last december on corruption charges. The other four officers have been reassigned to jobs where they dont work with the public. It includes slurs against africanamericans, latinos, filipinos and gays. According to the court filing ferminger texted we have two blacks at my boys school and they are brother and sister, i am watching them like hawks. In response a text saying just boarded train at mission and 16th. He wrote ok, just watch out for black males. Along with the slur to the black officer promoted to sergeant, he says any bias has no place in the San FranciscoPolice Department. Fermingers attorney has yet to comment. For the first time were hearing from the family of a mother shot and killed in oakland while protecting her children. The family of 30yearold shamille pierce spoke at an event to celebrate her life outside Oakland City Hall yesterday. She was an innocent victim who was shot while trying to protect her children from gunfire in her west oakland neighborhood last monday.
