The traffic is very slow because of an accident as you head up to sunnyvale and cupertino northbound 280 at the lawrence expressway. You can see how slow the traffic is here getting up past this 17 interchange. Its backed up into downtown san jose. The accident, which i will put on the map, is northbound 28 on the the lawrence expressway. There was also a car Fire Associated with this. The Fire Department and rescue crews are there. Happily, there is there are some good alternate routes. 85 is not that bad. 101 is lighter than usual. You will see slow traffic on the freeways. But i would say its better than it normally is in the areas. Move along to the contra costa commute. Thats lighter than usual. A little bit of slow traffic here and there on 680 and highway 4. But otherwise doing pretty well. When you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see the traffic is backed up for about a 25minute, 30minute delay at the toll plaza. 7 0. Back to the desk. Thank you, sal. An investigation is underway into a Deadly Police shooting in San Francisco. Two plain clothes officers say they had no choice but to shoot a man armed with a itch can with a kitchen knife. Tara moriarty is live to let us know how the investigation is being handled there. Reporter police chief greg suhr says a town hall meeting will be held in the neighborhood where the shooting happened. We know that late last night and into the earlymorning hours, investigators were busy talking to at least eight people who witnessed this shooting. It happened last night around 10 45, two plain clothes officers saw a man holding a kiffin knife and chasing a bicyclist down folsom from 25th to 4th. The plain clothes officers were on patrol and responded to a help for an Unmarked Police car. The suspect pulled out a long kitchen nich and was trying to steal his bicycle when Police Stepped in. In interviews the victim, the victim told the captain that he was coming after me with a knife this big. That is the knife was not that big. However, it is large. He thanked the captain saying you guys saved my life. Reporter chief suhr says officers told the suspect to drop his weapon before they opened fire and he did not. Investigators found six shell casings at the scene and so far, the identity of the suspect has not been released. Live from San Francisco, im tara moriarty, back to you. Thank you, tara. 7 04. San Francisco Police officer accused of using Excessive Force during a confrontation with a homeless man on a muni bus. This happened on february 11th. It was captured by surveillance video. Look at this. The bus driver told police, the homeless man was asleep and refused to leave the bus. The video shows Police Officer raymond chu apparently trying to rouse the man identified as beraround warren. The situation bernard warren. The situation escalated when warren told him to stop touching him and threatened to beat up the officer. [bleep] he made some comments to the officer who immediately takes the situation and turns into something violent. Officer chu used his police baton and pepper spray to make the arrest. Warren is facing a misdemeanor charge of threatening a Police Officer. Police chief greg suhr says hes reviewed the incident. He thinks the use of force was justified. An oakland man is in jail this morning accused of sexually abusing a 15yearold girl and forcing her into hue map trafficking. 32yearold Patrick Leo Simmons is due to appear in court later today. An undercover operation led officers to a motel in sunnyvale. Now, according to the Santa Clara County d. A. s office, simmons met the teenager on social media. Undercover agents arranged for a date with the girl through a website. They recovererred her through a recovered her through a motel room. They found simmons nearby with 6500 in cash and a motel key. He had sexually abused her. He was aware of her age and that he had also physically assaulted her. Simmons is being held on 1 million bail. He could face up to 15 years in state prison if convict on all charges. Menlo college has dropped its Football Program but still some. Students and the alumni they are fighting to get it back. Today they will hold a rally on the schools campus. They will protesting the boards decision last month to drop football after 29 years. A petition on causes. Com called save menlo football it already has more than 1700 signatures. Now, only 750 students go to menlo college. It was the fifth smallest Division Three school with a Football Program. The Health Department in marin county warning about a possible resurgence and comeback of polio. Now, polio was eliminated years argue. It terrorized the nation for years. This is because of an accident thats clearing from the lawrence expressway. It was blocking lanes for quite a bit and traffic is still very slow in the area. Northbound 280 at the lawrence expressway and all lanes have been open now for just a little bit. Maybe ten minutes or so. Buts traffic definitely still unwinding. You can see that the traffic on the map, im gonna show it to you. Traffic will be unwinding. That crash has been cleared from the lanes. Were looking at the commute in Contra Costa County. Thank you. 7 19. President obama was asked about decriminalizing marijuana. He wassed about issue was asked about the issue in washington, d. C. It allows adult residents to privately smoke pot and grow up to three marijuana plants. President obama says it really doesnt make sense to give Recreational Marijuana users the amount of prison time as violent drug offenders. There is a lot of concern about drug abuse of any sort by our children and the general population verses the heavy criminalization of nonviolent drug offenses. The city and states dont have to punish users with stiff prison sentences. 7 20. San franciscos new 628 area code, its creating a frustrating and expensive problem around the city. Last weekend, San Franciscos new 628 area code took effect. So now everyone with a 415 area code, you have to dial a 1 first to make a local call. It turns out most Apartment Building intercom systems they are not programmed to dial that extra digit. The Entry Systems are a phone system. It needs to call someones phone number. It needs to dial 1415 in addition to the other seven digits. One of the big problems is delivery people and others who cant get into buildings. Were told that newer intercoms would be reprogrammed for a couple of hundred bucks. But replacing an older system could cost as much as 5,000. Authorities tell a missouri newspaper, eight bodies were found in at least five separate location. Heres some of the photos from the investigation. Police responded to the first scene last night after a girl said she heard gunshots in her own home. She managed to escape. When the authorities arrived, they found two bodies inside her home. Investigators later found five other people shot to death at three other homes just a short distance from each other. The gunman, a 36yearold man was also found dead inside of a parked car. Now, investigators havent released any information about the relationship between the victims and that suspect but they are planning to hold a News Conference later today.
