Helping people in need, the vital count in San Francisco that is helping Homeless People get the services this that are so important. Flames tear through several homes in San Francisco. What witnesses saw moments before firefighters rushed in. On the heels of record warmth in the bay area yesterday, were going to cool down some for today. Ill look at the numbers in the extended forecast coming up. Looking at rain. This week volunteers conducted what is called a Homeless Count in San Francisco i know you were there thursday night. Tell me about the process. We had video of you counting the homeless. What are you actually looking for and what are you doing . First, we have hundreds of volunteers from throughout the city of San Francisco and frankly the bay area, and we do it every two years. It gives you a report of how were doing and a road map forward. We dont get the report card until spring or summer . Correct. How are we doing in San Francisco . Its tough to tell. Ill say anecdotally the issue is becoming worse. We have people in our neighborhoods feeling the effects of it more than ever before. Part of the benefit of the economic boom were having in San Francisco is a lot of places such as downtown, all being redeveloped, new high rises coming up, great for jobs and so forth but also displacing, if you think about our homeless issue, displacing a ton of individuals and families that were living there before. So coming out to different parts of San Francisco. It seems counterintuitive. When the economy was terrible people losing jobs, it made sense more people would be on the street but now that everyones improving most people think it should be Getting Better if its not Getting Better because the economy is improving, do we have more resources to address the problem . We do but i think what were doing and what i spent a lot of time doing the last year anda half and taking a hard look at what were doing and what weve been doing to date. Is it working . Not be afraid to challenge the status quo and say if the services or policies are not working, lets break the mold, lets do Something Different in San Francisco because we want to have a real effect on the streets. You talked about that. You talked about where to put the money. Could you give me one example of what is not working where youre looking, ok, were throwing money at this program and its not it hasnt been good for us . Heres maybe what we should try . The one thing that does work and we know it, every city knows it, San Francisco knows it, it sounds trite but the best way to work on our homeless issue is to house the homeless. San francisco, as we think of housing now we have an affordsability crisis across our city, certainly affects the citys ability to provide enough housing for the homeless population. When youre talking to homeless, do you sense frustration . Do you sense they are looking for services and not getting them . Did they not know they were out there . What is the general consensus . I think no one is created equal obviously and everyone has a different situation. Some have mental illnesses, some are just down on their luck and if the right situation appeared could get a job and be part of society again. Some quite frankly are never going to rejoin society if you will. We need to think about them from a government perspective, about providing long term care. Everyone is different. But i will say that the more attention that we focus on the issue the better it is for the city of San Francisco. If we talk about anecdotally or through numbers the situation getting worse, ignorance and putting our head in the sand is not an option. What is the Progress Report . What grade would you actually given the city now . A b right now. I think were putting a renewed focus on the issue but in the aggregate i dont see our numbers Getting Better right now. Were focused on it, the board of supervisors, mayor, were all pulling on the oar right now and im hopeful for what it is going to bring in the future. Thank you for coming in. Back to mike and rosemary, talk about how our weather is shaping up today. North bay yesterday, one pocket, 80 degrees. Santa rosa. Fantastic. But a lot cooler today. Were cooling down. Still going to be above average but temperatures are coming down and actually want to start by showing you some of the records that were broke well, the records that were set yesterday. New records, giving you a live look into San Francisco and ever othe bay. Lets go to the graphic. Again records from yesterday. Mid70s in richmond. San jose tied a record at 71. So for today the ridge of High Pressure is breaking down, we have systems that will ride through the Pacific Northwest not bringing rain but bringing high clouds you may have outside your door. The fog is back, the onshore breezes a little stronger. And because of it again our temperatures will be not quite as warm as we get into the afternoon. I want to speed you up into thursday and then ill bring you back to today. As we get into thursday morning notice the rain line moving now a little closer to the bay area. By thursday night well have the possibility of scattered showers arriving. It looks like friday could be a wet day. That rain line begins to move a little farther south and were hoping that it comes all the way down into monterey, at the least. As we get into saturday morning we continue with that possibility of wet weather. So right now what looks like thursday, friday, maybe lasting into saturday were still a few days out and well be tracking it between now and then and finetuning it. 43 degrees in oakland. 39 napa. I have to point you to, i should say 39 san rafael. I want to get to napa, 36 in napa now is about 14 degrees colder than where we were 24 hours ago. So already big changes underway. 39 livermore. 42 san jose. The offshore winds are gone. Because of it again patchy fog back and temperatures not as warm. 68 degrees for vallejo. 67 in novato. 70 concord. Jrn 60s to near 70 in the south bay. And 69 san jose. 70 morgan hill. 72 santa cruz. The extended forecast with the second half of the weekend in view, a cool start followed by a mild afternoon. Temperatures wont change a lot as we get into monday, tuesday, wednesday. But by thursday, yes three World Series Championships in five seasons, not bad. Coming up at 8 15 well have mario from the San Francisco giants in studio to talk about the upcoming fan fest. Its that time of year already. And the Upcoming Season at the ballpark. First, nearly 1 billion mistakes off for space, how it could impact food grown here in. Liftoff. Delta 2 rocket that launch near Santa Barbara yesterday is the start of a threeyear mission. Im claudine wong. Speaking of how nice it is rosemary, once again, escapes the studio to get to the roof to enjoy that sunshine. Is it still a little cold . Reporter yes. I think that is the take away for today. Not as warm. Were still going to be well above the seasonal average but a cooler pattern has already settled in to the bay area. This morning we have low clouds, a little patchy fog. High clouds, offshore wind is gone and because of it chillier in many areas. Lets get to the current temperatures and take a look, 36 in napa now. 39 for novato. 36 walnut creek and low 40s in concord, livermore, santa rosa. If you remember we were nine games up earlier in the year, nine games down something about the chemistry of this team, the connection with fans and i would tell you when we got to the game, world series that was a lot of fun. When it comes down to the one game kansas city was really something to see. It was a special year. Memorable moment for you during the playoffs . So many of them. I think for me the most memorable moment was after game seven and we won the game, everyone was celebrating. I saw a kansas at this royals fan sitting by himself, practically in tears. People were so emotional about their team. Passion. Everyones passionate. Weve been through that too in 2010 when we won for the first time. Its a great game. Its been just a wonderful five years. Its Pretty Amazing when you look back we won three times. You talk about that royal fan, i remember being that fan in 2002. I didnt want to say that but i remember the other game seven. Didnt want to mention that. One player not in scottsdale, pablo sandoval. He was a huge draw to the park, the kids loved telling mom and dad lets go to the ballpark and see panda. Maybe not going how much of a hit do you take when you lose a player like sandoval . Who has been with you so long . He was a fun player to watch. Fans connected with him. But when you think about it all our players have that connection with our fans. Its not our team is not just about one player. I have to admit watching our fans with the panda hats on was a lot of fun. Our brian and bobby are baseball folks, they always figure out a way to get the Team Together so it works and its a long season. Its a long story so well have to see how it happens. Well miss pablo but we have other great players on this team. I think our fans will connect with them. Look at hunter pence, quite a character. Buster posey, you can go down the lineup, theres just a real special connection that our players have. Fan fest next weekend. Saturday rain or shine . Rain or shine. Sphrirchtion maybe out there . Lurking but coming off a world series is nothing like a fan fest. 2011. Then obviously in 2013. What should fans expect when they go to the park next weekend . Its funny, todays super bowl sunday, its the beginning of baseball season. Next saturday our fan fest from 10 00 a. M. To 3 00 p. M. Most of the players will be there. The ballpark is open, its free admission. You can get autographs. Tour the ballpark, go through the clubhouse. Actually the visiting clubhouse this year. Go through the press box. Its a time to really get fans emotionally, just ready for the new season. Our tickets for a Single Game Tickets also go on sale at 8 00. Sfgiants. Com. Its the first time you can buy tickets to individual games. You have players there . Players will be there. We have six or seven locations around the park. Every hour we rotate players so you can get autographs. Its a way to officially get spring training kicked off which starts in a couple of weeks. I always asked you before we have to go, if you build it they will come. How much is true when you build the ballpark i grew up in candlestick, minimal fans when not winning, how much is it when they actually win . Candlestick park is where a lot of us grew up. Theres Something Special about at t park. Its so beautiful. Its part of the experience. The baseball game happens on the field but the experience of come to the giants game. People call about the food. Everyone comes to the games for different reasons. This ballpark has become part of the giants brand. I think its one of the most beautiful baryks in the country. When they win its even better. Well see if they can repeat. Something theyve been unable to do. You are season starts at home april 13th. Well raise the pennant and start all over again. Thank you, mario. Have a great season. Good spring training in arizona. The oakland as are having their fan fest next weekend. We reached to fan officials to come to studio but so far we have not gotten the green light. It will be sunday from 10 00 to 4 00 at or ankle arena oracle arena. Introductions will be 10 00. Admission is 10. People are told to get to the event early. As mario said, super bowl means baseball season is here, exciting time. Indeed. Good baseball weather too . Yeah. Good weather all the way r507bd at least for a couple of days. As mike eluded to maybe a few splimption come next saturday. Well talk about that in a minute. Lets get outside and look at the high clouds overhead this morning. Patchy fog back as well and temperatures a lot cooler. Actually want to give you a comparison here as we turn over to the graphics. Were looking at 10 degrees of cooling for areas around santa rosa today. San francisco, youre expected to drop by about 8, concord 7, san jose a few degrees cooler for you. As we get into the afternoon, monday not a lot of change, even overnight lows wont be budging a lot. Widespread 40s and low 50s in the forecast. Partly cloudy skies to mostly cloudy skies. Finally on thursday, switch in the weather pattern and models have been fairly consistent in bringing us some rain, thursday, perhaps evening into friday, maybe lingering into saturday. Still a few days out but yes, were hoping that actually comes into fruition. I have to say that yesterday the heat did it surprised me, im like oh, its warm. You said it would be a nice day. If even warmer than anticipated. I think we were looking at 73, 74 santa rosa and it got to 80. I even noticed a couple of buds on plants and flowers. Feels like spring. Feels like may. Im glad i see a little on mine because i dont water it anymore. With the drought. Hopefully something will appear. Thank you. This weekend representatives of the Bay Area Host Committee along with jed york took part in a hand off ceremony from bay areas officials hope to raise the bar higher for next years game. The last time the super bowl played here in the bay area was january 20th, 1985, thats way too long. Thats way too long. We do have a new stadium. It was the 49ers taking on the dolphins. And the 49ers won, 3816. Mvp if i remember this correctly. At that time, Ronald Reagan was president and the number one movie back to the future. The number one song . Like a virgin. So good. [ laughter ] it was so good in the 80s and 90s. What position . Class of 94. Guess whos playing left corner . So it was like third and gold from the three and he had a little slot to his left and a little tight end on the right i was on the right side covering the tight end. You said you found this in your garage . Yeah, the inventor of this, hes like this audio engineer tech guy he invented this and came up with this in his garage and we help it to bring it and designed it and now we are bringing it to market. We have shipped our first batch. It is awesome. It is blue tube, i want you to turn on some music. I will say that we talk about sound. It is pretty good. It sounds great. We are really excited because it is the same price and the same size quality as the other blue tooth out there. It is just cool, now, tell me how it works. So there is e electro magnet in the base. Dont get to techy. There is a Center Gravity thats created. Is this just for fun. Can you do anything else . Is it a novelty kind of item here . Well, it is novel but we dont think of it as a gimmick. You can take it off the base and you can carry with you, it is a portable speaker. I thought it was the soccer ball. Yeah, i think one of the press publications says this has a clearer sound system. It is floating. You feel the table vibrating. Can you use it for Conference Calls or Something Like that . I want to take us back to one day wow was it a warm one yesterday. We set several records napa and San Francisco at the airport all setting new records for today. I should say yesterday; 78 until oakland and 73 at the airport. But, we do have changes in store if you are outside this morning. You may have noticed we have got clouds again and numbers are not as warm as we get out the door this morning. The offshore breeze is gone. We have a system riding to the Pacific Northwest. A few showers, that should be about it. If i slide in closer picking up some moistures here near areas around here. Again, it is not hitting the ground. A little bit of moistures out there. As we get to the next few days, well see this system continues to move through. I will show you this, it is not going to touch the bay area, it takes all the way until thursday, we are here at lunchtime and we got some rain moving closer to thursday night. Looks like north bay could see a few scattered showers as we get into the friday time frame. We are still a few days out this is going to change with each passing hours or so. As we get into saturday morning we wake up with scattered showers in our forecast. Some rain and the time line likely to change as we get closer but something to be aware of and hope for. 47 degrees in concord and low 50s around the bay and 55 at sfo and 56 in San Francisco. Hayward, you are checking in at 53 degrees this morning. Our temperatures are beginning to turn around. Upper 60s to low 50s. 67 in oakland and 70 for concord. South bay, mountain view. 5 9 for san jose and low 70s are expected for santa cruz. Temperatures are not going to change a whole lot in your business week. Temperatures are coming down, still going to be very nice, just not as warm as what we had yesterday. And then we may see some rain comes on thursday. Everybody say a little prayer. All right we are about to turn up this Super Bowl Party here. [ laughter ] yeah, it is kind of interesting. Torrey campbell is here. I am not in my regular anchor gear. I went to Hamilton College this is the one i pulled out. I made some Healthy Snack for you. [ laughter ] a lot of people like, okay, okay, how about guacamole and chips. You take a regular chip like this and sliez it into wedges. You made the chips . Yes. These, i sprayed it oil spray. You made it this morning . Yeah, theyre kind of plain on their own but if you have it with guacamole, it is great. This one i added with beans. I know avocado are healthy fat but they are high in calories. If you kind of spread it out with white beans, you get the texture but you dont have as quite of a many calories. This one here, i added broccoli to it. I have never done it before but it is easy, you put in some lime and some onions and i added a little garlic to this. So it is the same but just the broccoli. You are like the parent that hides the good food. You have to be careful with the guacamole, the only two times i have had bad Food Poisoning was when the avocado going bad. Under this light hoping it will be eaten quickly. We have to move to this other thing want to talk about the super bowl commercials. I dont know that years ago, before the heat come on.
