The city is poised to pass an emergency drought declaration and some new restrictions but one council man wants to take it further. And one of those proposals is to stop watering grass areas on cityowned land that are not being used for recreation or is playing fields. Next week, the city will be voting on an emergency drought declaration which consists of restricting water use during certain hours. The council man who is also running for mayor will be introducing a proposal that includes a number of ways to cut water usage. As i mentioned cityowned land with grass would not be watered if other water was being used on it currently. And grass being used for deck ra live turps would be replaced with droughtle to rat plants. They want to create a Water Conservation core of young adults or teens. They would be paid using recentlyauthorized funding to do a number of tasks. They could be tearing up lawns where residents are willing to instead plant drought plants. They could be distributing information for challenges conserving water and making sure folks know how to best save water. He also wants a fast track plan to start using recycled water for drinking. This would involve treating the water to safe levels and recharging our ground water bases which is already part of the Water Districts longterm plan. This proposal will be presented to the city council next tuesday where other members will get a chance to decide whether they want to go forward with exploring these ideas even more. One of the reasons the Companies Get water from our state is because were the only state in the west without ground water regulations, or management.
