Its going to send everything up and over up towards vancouver and seattle which means we have a lot of sunshine here. As you know, the days are short. Cold morning and then sunny. But hazy, patch or two of fog. Not a bunch. But theres a little bit around. Highs will be in the low to mid 60s at best heres sal. Were looking at a commute thats slightly different today. Its a little bit lighter in some areas but weve had so some problems. 80 westbound has been up and down but the toll plaza delay has not reached more than 15 minutes. Thats about the maximum today. There are no major problems coming into San Francisco. Were also looking at highway 4 which is a little better than it normally is. Judging by the comments on the facebook page, we put out a question on my page. Are you working this week . Some people actually have the whole week off. Some people get thursday and friday off. Happening today president obama is waking up on the west coast this morning. This is video from the president s arrival in seattle yesterday. In just a few hours, he will be arriving in San Francisco. The president has a short but busy visit here. This visit is all about fund raising but the president will be making a policy speech later on this morning and talking about immigration reform. The first stop of the morning will be here at the Betty Ong Center in San Franciscos chinatown. Preparations are well underway both inside the center and outside as well. The secret service is here in and around this facility doing their security sweeps right now. This is a center, by the way, thats named for a hero Flight Attendant who died on 9 11, betty ong. The president will be here in four hours, speaking inside the gym at 11 30. And he will be calling on congress to pass immigration reform. He wants an earned path to citizenship coupled with tighter border security. The white house says the immigration issue is critical to the asianamerican community as well, with an estimated 1. 3 million of this countrys undocumented immigrants being from asia. The director of a local immigrant rights group is hoping the president can get things moving on the issue. But shes not exactly sure what the plan is. I wish i did. But i hope he jumps over congress and does something bold. Reporter following the speech this morning, the president will head to the jazz center for a Democratic Fund raise there. After that he will attend a private fundraiser at the home of mark benioff. Thats in the Presidio Heights neighborhood. Events are sold out. But tickets had to be reduced leading up to the events. He will be greeted at various locations. The president , again, here at the Betty Ong Center in chinatown at 11 30 this morning. President obamas visit to the bay area comes as his Approval Ratings are falling dramatically. On the president s last visit to the area, on june 6th, gallup tracked the Approval Rating at 62 and disapproval at 32 . By last friday, it was almost the reverse. His Approval Rating was 39 but disApproval Rating, 54 . President obama hoped to meet batkid but apparently the superhero has a very busy schedule. He was among the many people who cheered on miles scott during his make a wish day here. But the batkid is not available because hes scheduled to been a National Television show. In other news a woman is in Critical Condition after she jumped from the third deck of the Oakland Coliseum yesterday. It happened just as thousands of fans were leaving the raiders game. Ktvus Tara Moriarty joining us live from the coliseum to tell us about the Good Samaritan. Reporter yes, hes being called a hero. A 61yearold marine corps veteran from stockton has been coming to raiders games since he was a kid. The incident happened behind me. It all happened as the raiders titans game let out. The woman jumped from section 301 above the south end zone covered by a tarp and closed to the public. The Good Samaritan was by the flagpoles when he lunged to grab her. She she plunged 50 feet to the pavement when fans begged her to stop. Your heart reaches out to the woman and the man who very heroically tried to save her. You always wonder why, why would you do that . Reporter the Good Samaritan suffered serious injuries. Hes credited with breaking the womans fall and saving her life all she that woman is in critical can although that woman is in critical can be. Today the chronicle reports there will be a oneyear lease considered for the raiders. They will also vote on a reported deal that would keep the as in oakland for the next two years. However, neither Lease Agreement deals with the long term question of whether oakland can keep the as and the raiders from leaving town. The warriors already are planning a move to San Francisco. 7 08. Hundreds of people remain without power in daly city. Pg e says the outage was first reported just before 12 30 this morning in the westlake neighborhood west of mission street. Initially, more than 6300 customers lost power because of damage to an underground cable. Right now, about 1500 people still dont have electricity but pg e says they expect to have the power fully restored by 9 30 this morning. A Real Estate Developer is at the center of a sex scandal tied to one of San Franciscos oldest churches. The landmark, st. Francis in north beach, has fired william mclaughlin. Hes a marin county Real Estate Developer and animal activist who served as chairman of the churchs volunteer program. His firing reportedly stemmed from allegations of improper behavior, including involving mclaughlin and a former Church Employee including lewd photos and sex in the sanctuary. Hes also accused of misusing church funds. All right. 7 09. For the third year in a row, california was named the worst run state in america. The website 24 7wall street used Financial Information to rank all 50 states and it says california took a big hit with the housing crisis. California also ranked dead last for having the 20th highest debt per capty ta. The third biggest budget and the second highest enemployment rate. Theres good news. California has the 11th highest per capita of income. The bestrun state according to the survey, north dakota. A new report on oaklands i. D. Program says both people are not using the cards debit function. The chronicle says more than 4,000 i. D. Cards have been issued since february but only 80 people have used it as a debit card. Now, the cards were created in part for undocumented immigrants. When it was first introduced, the cost of using the Debit Service was higher than other cards on the market but since then, the city has reduced the debit fees. Also later today, a San Francisco task force appointed by mayor lee will recommend ways to fix the Transportation System in the city. After studying the issue for months, the Task Force Says it will cost 10 billion over the next 15 years to pay for repairs. That task force is recommending three ballot measures that would raise about a billion dollars each to help pay the cost. 7 11. Right now were looking at a commute thats moderately heavy. I will tell you where the heaviest traffic is and how you can get around it. Except for some patches of some fog or low clouds, its cold out there. It will be dry today and tomorrow. But i will tell you, if theres gonna be any rain this Holiday Weekend. Its called knockout game. Its come to california. The game involves people randomly targeting unsuspected strangers and knocking them out with one punch to the head. Knockout game incidents have been reported in at least five states and washington, d. C. Then a few days ago, an incident was reported in san diego. At least four victims have died. Police say its hard to find the people involved because victims are being knocked unconscious and dont remember what happened. A shortage of Forensic Pathologists at the San Francisco medical Examiners Office is being blamed for long delays in releasing death certificates. City data shows that more than three quarters of all pending cases have been waiting for a cause of death for more than three months. The office is supposed to have four Forensic Pathologists working but it currently only has one permanent and one temporary pathologist. The chief medical examiner says the office is working to fix the problem. 7 15. Unattended deepfryer blamed for a house fire last night in pittsburg. It happened yesterday around 5 30 at a house on springfield drive. Firefighters say the smoke and the flames was visible from a halfmile away. It caused about 60,000 damage. On scene, we had heavy involvement in the kitchen. It started to spread into the living room. We were able to knock the fire down. The battalion chief also reminds everybody to be extra careful with the deep fryers. They are used to a lot to fry turkeys for thanksgiving. Crews are making progress on a fire burning in sonoma county. This one started fry about ten miles northeast of friday about ten miles northeast of geyserville. Its 65 contained. Its burned about 3300 acres. All evacuation orders for the area have been lifted. Some of the 1700 firefighters will leave today. The cause of that fire, still under investigation. Its 7 16. Cleanup efforts are underway one week after that deadly tornado tore through illinois. This is video from new mindon, illinois. People say some of their homes were torn from the foundations and are completely gone. Others are clearing debris and sorting it into piles. At least two deaths are blamed on the tornado. A new report shows that hundreds of underground water leaks will go unmonitored because of a new state policy. Since the 1980s, more than 44,000 underground fuel tank leaks have been recorded in the state. But a change went into affect last year that allows some of these sites to end regulatory monitoring even if contamination is traced. The state said too much money was being spent on low threat sites. Marin county is a big step closer to banning single use plastic bags. Residents are being invited to express their opinions on the countys Environmental Impact report on the issue. County officials are expected to certify the report in late january. After that is done, cities and the county are expected to approve a ban on plastic bags. 7 17. About 4. 5 million californians will travel for the thanksgiving holiday. And the travel experts including our own sal castanedo say the day before thanksgiving is expected to be the busiest day os on the day on the highways. If you drive on wednesday, leave before 10 00 a. M. To beat the biggest traffic jams and sunday will be busy all day. Another 500,000 californians are expected to fly somewhere for thanksgiving. The airlines say check in, see if your flight is leaving on time. Weve heard about the weather problems, too. They also want you to get there at least 90 minutes before your scheduled takeoff. All three bay area airports expect crowds to be bigger this year than last year. Speaking of traffic, lets check in with sal right now. The regular commute might be different this week. Yes. A little bit of slow traffic coming up over the hill. No major problems. And public Transportation Systems are doing a normal thing today. They are doing regular schedule. Westbound 237, you can see traffic is a little bit slow. So today is the day that most people do have to go to work just judging by the comments on social media on my facebook page, most people have thursday and friday off. Not much. But a little bit of stress. Otherwise, clear and cold. Any rain holiday week . Does not look like much will happen here. Its been a mostly dry november. Last tuesday and wednesday were good. Hint of something this thursday. Does not look like it will make it. Everything says it will push south and thats probably the projection. But the low that brought us our rain is doing all sorts of damage in the Weather Department with freezing rain. Probably the worst. Our rain has moved through in the deep south. If anything has travel plans between the carolina, tuesday, wednesday and then the northeast wednesday and thursday, this looks like a whopper of a system. So just to give you a heads up there. For us here, you can see the bend in the clouds. That says up and over the mountain of High Pressure, even though its not that strong. 30s and 40s. Very cold for many. Not too bad for others. But theres a lot of cold air in place. 18 up in tahoe. 31 ukiah. 32 up in middletown and lake county and sacramento, 39. Its a dry forecast for us. Well talk about Late Wednesday into thursday. But right now, it does not look like much is going to happen here unless you are heading to Southern California. The name might have more rain than anything here.
