Police are we begin with developing news from san jose. Police are on the scene of a suspected drunk drive. Janine de la vega got new information about the suspect and the victim and she joins us now live from san jose. Good morning. Reporter good morning. We know that they are friends, the suspect and the victim in this accident. Police are talking to the suspect back at the Police Station interviewing her. She was behind the wheel of the suv that with see parked in that driveway. Were being told that the driver was drunk at the time. One of the questions that we wanted to find out from officers is did she know she hit her friend. Was she trying to help. Police were called to weeble way after a neighbor called to say that a woman was crying outside. When officers arrived, they found the suv and next to it a 26yearold woman seriously injured. She died at the scene. It appears the driver backed into the garage hitting it and her friend. Its unclear where the victim was standing at the time, but Police Believe prior to getting hit that she was a passenger in the car. Police have arrested the 27 yearold driver. When the officers did arrive here, they did suspect that she was driving under the influence immediately, so that led them to believe, again, that she was pretty intoxicated. There are some indication that there was some beer there. Whether it was in the vehicle or near the area. Reporter the driver was arrested for vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence. Its unknown if the victim or the suspect live at the condo where the accident happened. We havent seen anyone come in and out of that home yet. Now, this is the 21st vehicle versus pedestrian accident that has resulted in a fatality. High winds knocked out power to 15,000 bay area homes and businesses last night. In San Francisco, scaffolding toppled down on power lines on hyde street and 5500 people lost power. Most customers have power back on now and it should be fully restored by 10 this morning. Spains newspaper says documents provided by former National Security Agency Contractor Edward Snowden showed the United States and the nsa monitored 60 million phone calls in spain last december. Now all this comes as a delegation from the european arrives today in washington d. C. They want answers about the latest round of purported u. S. Spying activities. The guardian says the National Security agency monitored the calls of 35 world leaders, including the leaders of france and germany. The allegations are coming from the documents leaked by ed yard snowden. California senator Diane Feinstein says she supports giving the nsa limited authority to continue gathering americans telephone records to prevent attackings attack attacks. The committee is drafting legislation to put restrictions on the nsa phone records program.
