Low cloud deck in place. Inland temperatures have cooled down. Not much change. Heres sal. Traffic on highway 24 westbound is moderate between walnut creek and oakland. Not all that bad. When you get to the toll plaza, its backed up. But on the toll plaza of the golden gate bridge, its not. Back to the desk. We have developing news coming in from San Francisco. Firefighters have found an illegal marijuana grow operation. You are looking at some of the video there. Alex savidge is there and the police are looking for whoever is responsible for this. Good morning, alex . Reporter good morning to you, dave. That search is underway still. This growth operation took up five rooms here. I want to show you some of the things they they pulled pulled things they pulled out. You can see lights in this debris. The home was locked up. Firefighters had to force their way in. The battalion chief told me there were probably 60 or so pot plants inside and also grow lights and two small bags of marijuana ready for sale. This fire was called in at 1 00 a. M. This morning by a neighbor who smelled smoke. The flames were knocked down fast. The fire posed a huge challenge for crews. Meter was bypassed and so that meant that firefighters couldnt fix it. They had to call in pg e. This seems to be a more common occurrence. Its becoming our bread and butter operation. They often ply use plywood over windows and doors. It makes it a challenge for firefighters. Reporter officers have seized the marijuana inside the home. Officers are trying to figure out who was doing this. One neighbor said there were several people what appeared to be living here. One of them, she said, was here after the fire broke out. She said that man walked off before the firefighters arrived here. We expect police to be back at this home later today to gather additional evidence. Its an emotional day for the family and friends of an 8 yearold girl who was shot and killed in oakland during a sleepover early this month. The funeral for alasha carradine is set for 11 00 this morning. Police say she was at a friends home for a sleepover when someone rang the doorbell, then started shooting. Two other children and a grandmother were also hurt. So far no arrests have been made in this case. 7 04. A radio tower in the east bay has collapsed in what is being called an act of vandalism. Tara moriarty is live with the damage done and what park officials are saying how it happened. Tara . Reporter well, we put a call into parks police as well as the sheriffs department. So far weve not received a call about the downed tower. We know its in a remote area at the end of bullenjer canyon road. The toppled tower collapsed from a lack of support after vandallals cut through the lines. It happened around 12 30 yesterday morning. Officials say someone sliced six lines possibly with bolt cutters. The damage, more than a million dollars. Officials have not said why the vandals did this, if perhaps they were after copper or what. We were at the foot of the trail that leads to the tower earlier this morning. Its at least a 20minute hike to get up there across steep terrain. The roads are blocked off with gates and the park closes well before midnight. The people were obviously very determined. The police say they are looking for any information about who may have done this. This tower is on the list of registered microwave towers in san ramon and is used for radio purposes. Were trying to get more information about how any Damage Services might be impacted if at all. Well let you know who we find out. Tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. Recycling workers in oakland are walking off the job saying they are fed up with abuse and disrespect from city contractors. This video is from two weeks ago from a similar protest. 200 workers are involved in todays walkouts. That makes it one of the nations largest protests in recycling history. They are expected to converge on Oakland City Hall plaza at 10 00 a. M. This morning. Sal is now tracking a transformer on fire in oakland . Thats what we thought it was. Okay. I just got new info, dave. Not a transformer fire. Now its downed wires. The first report was a transformer fire of some sort near third and harrison. We were just on the phone with oakland Fire Department. Theres wires down in the area. Some of the businesses nearby are without power. Were trying to investigate further but if you come up to a traffic light not working in the Jack London Square area. Thats why. Lets take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. Westbound as you come up to the toll plaza, its backed up from the macarthur maze. The metering lights are on. About a 20minute delay, maybe 25 minutes. Now were getting to the peak of the morning commutes. Interstate 880 in oakland its getting busier. If you are heading south to hayward you will see slower traffic as you approach a street. We have a look at the Livermore Valley northbound. Westbound 580 there is a crash on the shoulder. Also, southbound 8le 0 we have slow traffic. Its ramping up from 238 to mowry avenue. About 18 minutes. If you are driving to san jose, northbound 101 is slow after 280 and pockets up to sunnyvale. At 7 07, lets go to steve. Very good morning. Cloudy skies. A westerly breeze in place. Its an onshore wind. A couple of fires, one down in Fresno County and a big one innerry ginn giving in oregon giving us hazy days. 50s, 60s, coast and bay. Upper 60s as you start to work inland. 70s and some inland locations are only in the 70s. I think that includes la fayette, concord sand a little bit you will see some low to mid80s. Mostly cloudy here this morning. Kind of cool and breezy. If you are stuck in the fog, it can be fog. The low responsible for our weather right there spinning. Its not going through until probably Late Wednesday or thursday. Thats going to keep us on the cooler side. That includes clearlake and also ukiah and even vacaville. I think everything is okay if you are flying out today. Once that does, well see slight warming. Were getting new video of a massive explosion at the propane plant in central florida. Did you see that . 15 workers were reported missing have now been accounted for. Eight of the workers are being treated at hospitals and three are in critical condition. There were propane cinders stored in various parts of the property. 53,000 20pound cylinders. This explosion comes three months after a deadly fertilizer plant rocked the small town of west, texas. 15 people died in that explosion. Most of the victims were first responders. Happening right now president obama is preparing to unveil some big changes to the Corporate Tax rate. Kyla campbell is joining us live in our ktvu newsroom. Reporter dave, republicans this morning say the president s plan is not a bargain, let alone grand. Heres a closer look at the plan to lower Corporate Tax rates. The current rate is 35 but he wants to lower that to 28 and he also wants to give Manufacturing Companies a better rate of 25 . The president wants to impose a minimum tax on foreign earnings in order to keep bizs from using tax havens abroad and paying less taxes. He will be in tennessee at an amazon. They plan to hire in 13 states including california. On top of that, he wants investments in middleclass jobs. But House Republicans say that means simst stimulus stimulus spending and thats something they oppose. So before the president even lays out his plan publicly this afternoon, Senate Minority leader Mitch Mcconnell is shooting it down this morning. His reaction, when i see you next. Investors are hoping ben bernanke and his colleagues will give some sign as to when they are gonna slow their economic stimulus program. Its not likely when the fed will say when it will cut back the bondbuying program. But they say the fed could choose to clarify the issue about raising rates. Breaking news out of oakland. Were on 3rd street between harrison and webster. The power outage happened just before 7 00 this morning of the a couple of downed power lines as well as a couple of downed transformers as well. Pg e crews as you just saw, you can see a lot of residents hanging out here because their power is out. They also described hearing a couple of loud explosions as well, kind of like a couple of gunshots because the transformers blew. But i want to talk to tom, who lives at the lofts near where this happened. What did you hear and see . It was about 10 to 7 00 and i heard a loud boom. It didnt sound like a gunshot. It sounded like an explosion. And then i saw flash and then i heard another loud noise. I honestly thought it was something coming from the freeway. Reporter yeah. I got out of bed and heard some people out in front of my loft and came out into the hallway and saw that all of the power was out. Reporter yes. Whats next for you . I know youre on your way to work. Are you just gonna wait this out until pg e crews fix the electricity or are you gonna call it a day . No, i cant call it a day. I have to go to work. Reporter i understand that a couple of downed power lines are down here. Oakland Fire Department crews are here kind of core donting off where the cordening off the power lines are. Pg e just arrived. You are taking a look at the fire crews keeping a watch on everything. And you saw the black box up there in the pole. Thats where one of the transformers blew. President obama is scheduled to meet this morning with israeli and palestinian leaders at the white house. The new talks come a day after negotiators sat down to dinner with secretary of state john kerry. Thank you. Very, very special. We have not very much to talk about at all. Kerry is also expected to speak about todays talks later this morning. The two sides remain far apart on a host of issues including settlements in the west bank and settlements in east jerusalem. Talks are scheduled to continue over the next nine months. The suspect in last years mass killing in San Franciscos engelside district is due back in court. Hes accused of killing five people at a home near San Francisco city college in march of 2012. Theres still a lot of Unanswered Questions in this case. Prosecutors may reveal a possible motive during this mornings Court Hearing. Newly released Court Transcripts revealing new details about the chandra leavey murder case. Shes the woman from modesto and vanished while an intern on capitol hill in washington in 2001. Her body was later found on a washington, d. C. Hiking trail. Court records show the man convicted of ill canning her was physically abused by marshals bringing him to court. In one case, the marshals reportedly beat his head against a wall. How investigators uncovered thefts of luggage at sfo following a deadly plane crash. Good morning. San jose were looking at a live picture of some traffic that seems to be moving along pretty well as you drive up to interstate 880. Another look at the commute coming up. A United Airlines employee at sfo is accused of stealing luggage from passengers whose flights were diverted after the asiana crash. Sean sharif crudup crudup is shown giving bags to his wife and another woman. His wife returned clothing from that luggage to a nordstroms and got 5,000 in cash. Those thefts were discovered when the victim got a call from her personal shopper. Asked her how her vacation was and she said, by the way, why did you return the clothing . Your sister returned the clothing. She said i dont have a sister. Crudup has pled not guilty. His wife is scheduled to be arraigned next month. Investigators are still searching for the second woman seen on that video. 7 24. Want to turn it over to sal. I dont know if were seeing any issues because of the power lines down in oakland. Some of the people at Jack London Square are out of power. Some of the traffic lights may not be working. Im wondering if the Railroad Signals are on a different circuit. That certainly could be dangerous. A lot of train traffic in the area at this time of the morning. Lets take a look at the commute on 80 westbound. It seems to have improved here getting out to the macarthur maze and the bay bridge. When you get to the toll plaza, theres a 15, 20minute delay. Also the morning drive will be busy in san jose, although its not all that bad. Northbound 101 especially after 880 is slowing into sunnyvale. Lets go to steve. A lot of low clouds in place. A lot of hazy skies from the fires. Mainly up in oregon. Higher clouds skirt, the north bay. If you dont have the low clouds underneath. Fog, sun breezy. Mostly sunny, kind of hazy skies.
