at your current conditions coming up. we're following developing news for you where authorities are investigating a deadly head- on collision. ktvu 2 alex savage is live for us this morning with what we are learning about the crash that killed one person and left another critically injured. alex? >> reporter: police are telling me the driver who triggered this deadly crash was likely drunk and actually speeding down washington avenue when this crash happened. it was about 2:30 or so this morning when this driver slammed head on into another car that we're showing you right now. you can see the extent of the damage here. this car was coming in the opposite direction. let me show you some video of the front of the car crushed in the impact here. the woman riding in the car was killed. the man in that car was critically injured when this crash happened again at 2:30 or so. now, police tell me the man causing the crash may have been going close to 100 miles an hour when he veered into the oncoming lane and hit the other car. the driver who was speeding in this case or who police believe was speeding is also hospitalized, expected to survive. with that being said, i want to bring in lois torres. tell me if you could please why you believe that the driver of that suv may had been under the influence this morning. >> about 2:30 in the morning when of our officers were in the area seeing the car speeding. the driver did make some statement as to consuming alcohol earlier in the night. >> what sort of charges? >> if it determines he was at fault and under the influence of alcohol or drugs, he would be facing a dui charge with a fatality charge attached to it. >> the damage is extensive. is it one of the more horrific crashes you have seen at some time? >> yes, recently. the officer was able to pull one of the drivers out of the vehicle as the vehicle caught on fire. they were able to extinguish it as they were pulling him out. >> we think the man who is alive still who was inside that car. do we believe that he will survive? >> yeah at this point he will survive as he's in serious condition, but he will survive. >> just an awful wreck here. lieutenant torres, we appreciate your time this morning. this investigation could take a few more hours is what i'm told. police are still peacing together the crash scene and the coroner just arrived on an a short time ago. shut down for several more hours this morning as they investigate the deadly crash. live this morning, alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. and also new this morning, san francisco police, they are investigating the stabbing and robbery overnight in the city south of market district. it happened around 2:00 this morning near a nightclub. three victims were hurt including the necklace was taken. one of the victims was stabbed in the chest. police have not confirmed whether or not they were robbed after leaving the nearby nightclub. two santa rosa police officers are being recovered after being assaulted. police stopped the driver just before 10:00 p.m. on southeast street on suspicion of dui. that's where they say that the passenger got out of the car and attempted to free the driver who was being arrested. one officer was kicked in the face during the confrontation. both the driver and the passenger were eventually taken into custody. this morning san jose police are searching for the suspect after the collision with the officer overnight ending with the officer's patrol car hitting the street. they were rushed to the hospital on 12th and east santa clara street. police went door to door searching for the suspect, but never found him. >> i first came out and heard a bunch of sirens. cop cars were going every which way, going down the one way and the wrong way. and they were pretty much stopped. we are one week away from the key deadline. the 30-day contract extension will expire next sunday. two sides plan to meet again tomorrow. the negotiator thomas hawk has been on vacation. transit workers mocked his absence yesterday by wearing hawaiian shirts. >> because the main negotiator isn't there. we're talking about the secondary-type issues, smaller issues. and that's a big ticket item. >> for making progress, we can continue talking. there are lots of options as long as you are making progress and getting towards that deal. >> the union attorneys claim that they have a conflict of interest that their transportation company is receiving $16,000 for setting up the shuttle service during the last strike. but bart calls it a non-issue saying that the fee was only $500. this morning there is more information about bart's salary. following a story we first reported it you earlier this month. that according to bart the average union employee will make around $71,000 a year. plus averages $63,000 worth of benefits in overtime. the mercury news now reports that the bart workers earned the highest salaries on average among the 25 largest government agencies in the bay area. according to the newspaper, the top paid train operator grossed $155,000. an electrician earned $150,000. bart's highest paid custodian made almost $83,000. the unions say that the wages have remained flat for the past four years and that the employees are some of the most skilled and highly trained. the secretary of state john kerry says that egypt's leader must "bring their country back from the brink." kerry also called for egypt's leaders to respect the rights of protesters. kerry made it as comments after at least 72 people were killed during the clashes between police and people yesterday, the deadliest outbreak of violence since the military removed the former president from power earlier this month. a rally sparked by the violence will be held today in san jose. egyptians against the cue plan to hold a demonstration at the plaza on south market street and park avenue starting at 2:00 p.m. this morning some are calling for governor jerry brown to intervene in a prisoner's hunger strike after the death of an inmate near fresno. investigating the death as hey a suicide, but advocates for prison reforms say the inmate was participating in the hunger strike and had been asking for medical help. they identified the inmate as 32-year-old billy sell. he was serving a double sentence for attempted first- degree murder and facing charges for the 2007 slaying of his cell mate at the state prison. >> it is time for the governor to step up before anybody else dies because we're at that point. day 20, day 21, it is time to stop this torture in california. >> and inmate protests in the use have been on a hunger strike since july 28. 800 inmates are taking part in that hunger strike. this morning a protest will continue in berkeley to keep a historic building from shutting down. >> yesterday hundreds of people gathered in front of the downtown post office. this morning the protesters say they are still about half a dozen tents set up. that's one of the many locations that they are looking to sell, saying they lost about $25 billion over the last five years. >> and it is no different than the post office is saved. two popular events in different parts of the bay area are expected to tie up traffic. the area around the raceway have been jammed all weekend long due to the hot rod association. the traffic map shows that highway 37 and 121 are running fairly smoothly right now. you can expect traffic later this evening. some 30,000 people are expected for today's final prewill and again it will be the cool pacific air that helped us out as the temperatures will be coming down just a few degrees for them in the inland east bay and fairfield and livermore. you'll see a few degrees and feel it for your afternoon today. 55 degrees in fairfield. upper 50s in livermore and we've got mostly cloudy skies and the 50s around the bay for them. sfo and half moon bay and even once again this morning a lot like yesterday. here is a look at what you can expect in your neighborhood for today. 78 in sonoma if you are going to the drag races that it will be a beautiful day in richmond and head to the east bay for that and the upper 60s if you are going out to see them play for a ball game and 82 for danville and 83 livermore and the upper 80s in brentwood. and another construction barge on new york hudson river. the man was on the boat with several friends including this bride-to-be and the fiance when the accident happened. a woman's body was pulled from the water yesterday, presumed to be the 30-year-old lindsay stuart. she was just two weeks from walking down the aisle. her fiance survived the accident. >> these barges are not lit and it's a recipe for disaster. it could happen to anybody in a small boat that does not have radar. >> the man still missing was scheduled to be the best man at the wedding. the boat's driver has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and vehicular assault. investigators are looking as to whether or not alcohol may have played a role. members of the indianapolis church are grieving this sunday after the bus crashed while returning from the church camp. three people died and dozens more were hurt when the bus slammed into the retaining wall and rolled over. the church members were returning from the church to michigan. and they were just a mile away from their indianapolis church when the accident happened. most of those on board, they were teenagers. >> some of the teenagers, they are hurting pretty badly as you can see it in their faces. a lot of the adults are in there helping them, even though they are shook up. >> and the brakes, they failed. investigators are still looking into the exact cause of the crash. this morning we are learning the identity of the man who shot and killed six of their neighbors in south florida before being killed by police. investigators say that the 42- year-old set his apartment on fire and then went on a shooting rampage throughout the building, located just north of miami. and vargas held two people at gunpoint for hours in their apartment until the s.w.a.t. teams came in and shot them. >> i heard about 15 t 20 shots. my neighbors were screaming that my parents had been shot. >> police are investigating what the motive was the shootings.> president obama app be digging in for the drawn-out battle with the republican lawmakers as they will reportedly head to capitol hill on wednesday to meet with the congressional democrats as they will discuss issues, including the reforms and implementing the affordable care act. they are at odds over spending with some republicans, threatening the government shut down. on tuesday mr. obama is 11:00, they're clearing out. you can notice along the coastline we remain throughout the day. and for the afternoon, santa cruz, they should see partly to mostly sunny skies. for the rest of us at the beach, it's going to be mostly gray most of the day. now, there are the numbers expected outside the doors right now. widespread os around the lee -- widespread 50s around the coast. mid-70s inland as it will be a mild noon hour if you're planning on doing brunch or lunch outdoors. for the second half of the day temperatures will warm again, but for the inland communities, it'll be a few degrees cooler than yesterday around the bay. a lot like what we have had yesterday and this is what you can expect. 72 for san rafael. upper 70s to the lower 70s. oakland, freeland, mid-70s for you. 77 in san jose. mid-80s for some of our warmer locations. i'm talking about areas like brentwood, you're looking at 87 for today. a nice warm one in areas right around the garlic festival. not hot, but of on collision. alex savage is live to explain how fast the driver was going and why he may have been blamed. >> reporter: good morning to you. they believe the driver who triggered this deadly crash this morning was likely drunk and in all likelihood speeding well beyond the speed limit here maybe going close to 100 miles an hour down washington avenue here. and you can see the entire street was blocked off like this it is a crime scene at this point as they pieced together this accident. what i z was just told by them, that the police officer who was parked here on washington avenue who saw this suv fly by going close to 100 miles per hour. that officer started to follow the suv, but before he could make the traffic stop. the suv, they slammed head on into the car that we are showing you here that was coming in the opposite direction. you can get a closer look at this car and see the impact. the front of it was just crushed. the woman riding in the car was killed. dying here at the scene. the man of the car, the driver was critically injured. this crash is at about 2:30 this morning. the man causing the accident, they may have been going to -- may have been going close to 100 miles an hour as they hit the other car. of course it was the chaotic scene for the first police officer who pulled up to the crash. >> as you pull up on the scene, he began rendering the aid to the occupants of the vehicle. the other officers arrived on scene as they were tending to the victims. the vehicle traveling southbound on washington caught fire. >> the driver accused of creating the wreck has to be hospitalized and is expected to survive. obviously police say that at some point once their investigation wraps up, he could be facing both dui and manslaughter charges. we will bring you back out here for a live look. this is washington avenue shut down entirely. and it will be as authorities piece together the crash as they will have a crash investigation team on the scene. will continue to grow for the 56-year-old dog walker shot and killed outside their oakland home. that she was driving her car on wednesday when she was killed. the oakland city council is organizing a meeting tomorrow to address the shooting and the uptake in violence. that meeting is scheduled for 7:00 in the evening at their en >> they are being remembered. the remains of the first class has been identified. and they were captured and killed during the korean war and his remains are scheduled to arrive tomorrow night. the group that honors the falling service members will be lining the streets chronicle reports two firefighters, they are fighting the flames from the crash, spotted the 16-year-old on the ground and alerted their supervisor. they mistakingly concluded that the girl had passed away and did not have her move to that center. and the other fire truck then arrived several minutes later, as they ran over juan, unable to see her under the foam used to fight the fire. >> they have a new response vote that will be hitting the water soon. it was purchased for 9 -- for $986,000 with the help of the security grant. it's the only one of their kind in the southern part of the bay. these photos were taken of the bird last tuesday. they felt like the flamingo may have been taken from the oakland zoo. but the director of animal care tells us that this was most likely a pet, which flew away. >> the bird is free and living, you know, surviving. why capture it again? >> reporter: so far the zoo experts agree that the bird has the ability to fly away from predators and seemed to have adopted from their home. it may not be a natural occurrence, but they are still having fun watching. >> never had that before. >> the water control plant. >> yeah. last weekend of july believe it take a look at the fog. getting across the bridge is a little tough. down in many cases for them reporting the possibility down to about 3 to 4 miles. along the coastline, you will find it pretty thick, reporting the slight arrival of the delays to about an hour because of the low clouds and the fog as well. this is the system continuing to bring us the cooler air and the on shore breeze and the thicker marine layer and the clouds within that marine layer. we don't see a switch in the pattern until you get in this week. reported along the coastline and around the bay with the thick marine layer in place. pushing through the bay and the delta this morning of fairfield. that wind is 26 miles per hour as you're seeing it anywhere from 10 to 20 miles per hour through the west end of the delta with the cool air coming in. we will continue that cool down for this afternoon. at had hour we are a lot where we were 20 hours ago. 58 in oakland and napa and 59 in redwood city. we're looking at areas like half moon bay in the 50s. 57 foster city. 53 degrees outside your door. so a nice morning to get outdoors for a run. maybe a hike. but if you are going to take a slow stroll, it could be tropical storm warnings for the big island as well as others. they have a tropical storm watch. so this will be passing on through, weakening up as they will continue to weaken over the next day or big island and maui on monday before heading south off of oahu monday night. a 10-year-old colorado boy got mind the wheel of the car when his -- behind the wheel of the car when his great grandmother passed out while driving. they were going about 60 miles an hour. the 74-year-old great grandmother was talking when suddenly she passed out. griffin tried to wake her up and then when that didn't work, he quickly took the wheel, driving the car right into a ditch. >> my mom actually told me after that i'm so glad you turned into the ditch and didn't freak out like i would have. >> he made a very wise decision on a very critical moment and i couldn't be a prouder father. >> reporter: the great grandmother was taken to the hospital as she may have suffered a mild heart attack. he received that medal for his bravery and also a pretty good driver when it comes to go- karts. while at the ride of the bay area park, they started hearing reports of the down bicyclist yesterday morning at 9:45. after arriving at the ridge, it took nearly 30 minutes to locate the man as they found him on the trail in the west side of the ridge, the victim, they were flown by medical center. so far there are no updates on his condition. and the health officials are warning people that live in davis to stay away from the pedestrian bridge where a dozen dead bats were found last week. two of the bats have tested positive for rabies. five more dead bats were found on saturday and they are now being tested. but they will use the bridge and they are not necessarily worried. >> they will do so much greater than the risk. >> that they are generally full of them, but they really shouldn't be. >> they say as many as 3,000 bats may be living around the boulevard and the overpass there. but that is hiding on the bridge. officials say the bats that they will not be afraid to come out during the day. and san jose bride with stage four lung cancer this weekend celebrated the wedding of her dreams thanks to the help of social media. yesterday they were married. the stylish ceremony would not have been possible if not for the wedding planner who saw the couple's story on facebook. they then raised more than $50,000 to help pay for the ceremony and the reception. the cancer donations can still be made to give forward. and friends of the north bay woman will be hosting a fundraiser to help her with the medical expenses after the freak accident. michelle ortiz lost her leg last month during the boating accident. unable to afford the equipment she needs to walk, she is confined to a wheelchair. her friends say they want to raise enough money to buy the equipment so she could better care for her 11-year-old son. the event will be held at 2:00 at the fairgrounds. the fund has also been set up at the redwood credit union. parents struggling to pay for the children that are not covered by insurance, they may qualify for the grant. the united health care children's foundation is offering grants of up to $5,000 for the qualifying parents to help them with the out of pocket cost. children must be 16 or younger. you'll need to meet the financial criteria and have a commercial health insurance plan that does not cover all health care costs. the ucsf will offer the free dental screenings for children in san francisco's mission district today. the cool of dentistry will give them the fluoride treatments. offered from 11:30 this morning to 3:30 this afternoon on 24th and harrison streets. the second set of owls have taken up the nests at the hotel near san francisco international. the san francisco airport marriott, they said that the family of three young owls, they were spotted on the balcony this week. the hotel was already playing host of one family of the been going 100 miles an hour. he was likely drunk according to officers here on the scene. the suv veered into the oncoming lane, coming south here on washington avenue and that the suv slammed into the car we're showing you here. there was an officer parked nearby and they saw that fly by as they started to follow them, but they couldn't make the traffic stop before slamming into the other car. the impact of the crash pushed them up there. the woman riding in the car was killed. the man driving the car was critically injured. both wearing their seat belts at the time. the crash happened at about 2:30 this morning and again there was an officer who saw this speeding suv fly by, trying to follow him. but before he could make the traffic stop, they lost control. causing the deadly crash. >> yeah, that is probably one of the worse things you have seen recently. any time there's a fatality involved, it's pretty crazy. this one is based on the impact and the intrusion of the vehicle. pretty significant impact. >> reporter: the driver of the suv, the man accused of causing the deadly wreck is also hospitalized. he's in serious condition this morning. once being released in the hospital that he will be facing both dui and manslaughter charges. the lieutenant tells me that this driver, they admitted to officers on scene that they were drinking. we will bring you back out here for a live picture. and this street shut down, remaining closed for some time piecing together this accident as they will have the investigation unit here on scene and they will be on out here investigating for several more hours. live this morning, alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. and also new this morning, police are investigating the stabbing and robbery overnight in the city south of market district, which happened around 2:00 this morning near a nightclub. police say that three victims were hurt and jewelry including the necklace was taken. police have not confirmed whether or not they were robbed after leaving that nearby nightclub. two santa rosa police officers are recovering in the hospital after being assaulted during the traffic stop as they stopped the driver just before 10:00 p.m. on southeast street on suspicion of dui when they dialed a car and attempted to free the driver being arrested. one officer was kicked in the face during the confrontation. both the driver and the passenger were eventually taken into custody. san jose police this morning were still searching for a suspect after the collision with the officer's vehicle overnight that ended with the patrol car that they were rushed to the hospital last night for them in 12th and east santa clara street. but they never found them. >> when i first came out, i heard a bunch of sirens, going down the one way and the wrong way. and that they were pretty much stopped. >> the condition of the officer has not been released. we are following breakingnews now out of the east bay that they announced that they are stuck due to the power issues. we are working to get more details and they will bring you the very latest as we get it. they remain as we are one week away from the key deadlines. the 30-day contract extension will be expiring next sunday as the two sides plan to meet again tomorrow. the lead negotiator has been on vacation. the transit workers mocked his absence yesterday by wearing hawaiian shirts. >> they were talking about the secondary-type issues. smaller issues, not the big ticket items. >> but for making items, that they have lots of options as long as they are making progress and getting towards the deal. >> the union attorneys claim that they have a conflict of interest that they say the transportation company will be receiving $16,000 for setting up the shuttle service during the last strike. but they call it a non-issue saying that the fee is only $500. this morning there is more information about their salaries. following the story we first reported earlier this month. they reported that according to bart the average union employee makes around $71,000 a year. plus averages about $63,000 combined with benefits and overtime. the mercury news now reports that the bart workers earned the highest salaries on average among the 25 largest agency in the bay area. according to the newspaper, the top paid train operator grossed $155,000. and the top electrician earned $149,000. bart's highest paid custodian made about $83,000. wages have remained flat for the past four years and that employees are some of the most skilled and highly trained. the secretary of state john kerry says that the leaders must bring their country back from the brink. and they also called for an independent investigation into the violence, urging their leaders to respect the rights of the protesters. they made the comments after at least 72 people were killed in clashes between protesters and police yesterday. it was the deadliest outbreak of violence since removing their former president from power earlier this month. a rally sparked by the violence in egypt will be held today in san jose. the group will plan to hold the demonstration at the plaza on south market street and park avenue starting at 2:00 p.m. this morning some are calling for governor brown to intervene in the prisoner's hunger strike after the death of the inmate near fresno. the corrections officials say that they are investigating the death as the suicide, but the advocates for the prison reform say that they were participating in the hunger strike and asking for help. identifying them as the 32-year- old. he was serving the double life sentence out of salano county for attempted first-degree murder and facing trial for the cell mate at the state prison. >> it inmate protested the use of the confinement being on the hunger strike since more than 600 inmates across the state. this morning they will continue in berkeley to continue the historic building from latest controversy involving the county metro. they had warned them three times since 2011 about the potential breach of contract for failing to meet standards, including a rival time. a month of accident. alex? >> well, good morning. police, they are blaming the possible drunk driver for this deadly crash that happened early this morning. investigators say that the man was behind the wheel of the suv and was going about 100 miles per hour early this morning when he veered into the oncoming lane of traffic here on washington avenue. and slammed head on into the black sedan that you're looking at, which was coming in the opposite direction. now, the impact of the crash pushed that engine up into the passenger compartment of the sedan. the woman riding in the car was killed. the man driving the car was critically injured. both wearing seat belts. this crash happened at 2:30 this morning. there was a police officer parked here on washington avenue who saw the speeding suv fly by him and begin to follow it. but before that officer could make a stop, the suv driver lost control and that he actually told officers that he had been drinking before he got mind the wheel. >> right now he'll be in the hospital. we are basically just going to sit with them and then obviously he'll be facing if determined he was at fault for the accident and that the alcohol was a factor, then he'll need to face on top of the dui charge associated with the person and the fatality in the dui. >> that driver is now in serious condition at the hospital. but again once when he is released in the hospital, he'll be facing both dui and manslaughter charges. none of the people involved in this crash, that driver of the suv are the two people in that car that they were identified by police. alcohol may have been involved. good morning, alex. >> good morning. police say that the suspected drunk driver triggered the deadly crash early this morning and the investigators say the man behind the wheel of the suv, that they may have been going about 100 miles per hour this morning when their suv veered into the oncoming lane of traffic here on washington avenue and slammed head on into this car that we are showing you. it's a black sedan coming into the opposite direction with two people inside of it. the impact of the crash pushed the engine up. the woman riding in that car was killed. the man who was driving the car was critically injured and they were actually both wearing their seat belts at the time. this accident happened at 2:30 this morning. they tell me that the police officer who happened to be parked on washington avenue. they actually saw the speeding suv fly by him. he pulled at him and began to follow that suv. but before they could make a stop, that it caused a sudden crash. >> and especially when any of the fatalities would be involved it is pretty horrendous. spaced on to the impact and the intrusion of the vehicle that was pretty significant. >> and the driver, they were believed to have caused this accident to tell them on scene that they had been drinking before getting behind the wheel this morning. the driver is now in the hospital in serious condition. and once released from the hospital, police say that in all likelihood that they will be facing the dui and manslaughter charges in connection with the crash. that none of the people involved in the early morning crash that has been identified by police. we will bring you live here as you can see the extensive investigation that is still going on here in washington avenue both crashed for them right now as the accident. the investigation team that will be recreating the early morning crash that left that woman dead and critically injured. live this morning, alex police say that three victims were hurt and jewelly was taken including a neck -- jewelry was taken including a necklace. police have not confirmed whether or not they were robbed afterring that nearby nightclub. and two police officers are recovering in the hospital this morning after being assaulted during the traffic stop overnight. they stopped a driver just before 10:00 p.m. that's when they say the passenger got out of the car and intended to free them. one was kicked in the face during the competition and both the driver and passenger were eventually taken into custody. this morning san jose police are searching for a parolee after the chase ended. in the last half hour, police gave us an update. telling us that the officer was taken to the hospital with back pain after the crash last night at 12th and east santa clara street. police went door to door searching for the suspect, but never found him. >> when i first came out, i heard a bunch of sirens. they're going left, right, down one way and the wrong way and all the traffic was pretty much just stopped. >> the officer, they have been released from the hospital after being treated for a concussion. again, police say that the suspect they are looking for still is the parolee. some delays for the bart service on the richmond line. no service on the line for another 10 minutes or so due to the power outage. no other bart lines are affected. the 30-day extinction will be expiring next sunday as they plan to meet again tomorrow. the load negotiator thomas hawk has been on vacation and the transit this afternoon again riders could experience about 15 to 20- minute delays on the richmond line. they are also warning that it could get noisy out there as they will turn on the ventilation fans. for the safety reasons. we are now one woke away from the possibility of a new bart strike. the union's 30-day contract expansion will expire next sunday as they plan to meet again tomorrow. their lead negotiator has been on the point of contention i should say. currently on vacation, forcing these employees to mock him by wearing the hawaiian shirts. they will increase the parking fees at two stations beginning tomorrow. there will be a 50-cent increase tomorrow. and the daily mccar their will be $1.50 while it could cost $5.50 to park in west oakland. ktvu 2 alex savage is live this morning with what police say may have lead up to the crash. alex? >> reporter: police say that the speeding drunk driver caused this head-on crash. investigators say the man behind the wheel of the suv was under the influence and was speeding at about 100 miles per hour coming down washington avenue early this morning when that suv swerved into the oncoming lane of traffic on washington avenue here. it slammed head on into the black sedan that you are looking at, which was coming in the opposite direction. this was the violent crash. the woman riding in the car was killed. the man driving the car was critically injured, expected to survive. both wearing their seat belts. this accident happened at 2:30 this morning. the lieutenant tells me that the police officer was parked on washington avenue and saw that suv fly by them and began to follow it. but before that they could make a stop. the driver of the suv lost control, crashing into the other car. and the officer who pulled up on the crash, they did what they could to help the victims. >> as you pull up on the scene, he began rendering the aid to the occupants of the vehicle. the other officers arrived scene as they were tending to the victims. and the vehicle traveling southbound on washington caught fire. >> reporter: the driver of the suv, accused of causing the deadly crash is now in serious condition in the hospital and once released, we will be facing dui and manslaughter charges. according to police, that man told officers that he had been drinking before he got behind the wheel. and now most of the people, excuse me none of the people involved in this crash. the street is shut down in both directions and the accident recreation team will be on out here piecing together exactly what happened this morning in taking their measures. we're told that this treat will likely be shut down for several more hours. live this morning, alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. this morning some are calling for governor brown to intervene after the death of the inmate at the state prison near fresno. the corrections officials say that they were investigating the death as a suicide and that advocates for the inmate was participating in the hunger strike and had been asking for medical health. that they would identify the 32- year-old that they would serve the double life sentence out of solano county for first-degree murder and facing trial for the 2007 slaying of his cell mate at the state prison. >> it is time for the ep boran dies as we are at that point. day 21 that it will be time to start the person. >> the family and friends would pass them on here more than two weeks after the father reported that she was missing. they are asking anyone who had seen that little girl or her father the child in the suv with the grandmother who has dementia. while he ran into a store to buy an energy drink. he was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, but released after they did not file any charges. and the memorial continues to grow for a 66-year-old woman who was shot and killed outside her oakland home. police say that judy soloman was driving her car on wednesday when she was killed. the oakland city councilman is organizing a meeting tomorrow to address the shooting and the uptake in violence. that meeting is scheduled for seven tomorrow night at brookdale children's center. the bay area soldier killed in the korean war is being remembered. the remains of the private first class, they have now been identified. as he was captured and kiln during the korean war. and the remains are scheduled to arrive in the san jose airport tomorrow night. the group that honors the fallen service members will line the streets from the airport to their final resting place. and the private first class and many soldiers like him are the reason that the future korean war memorial will be in san francisco. and the ceremony was held yesterday for them to dedicate the site. the truck ran them over after firefighters were unable to see her under the foam used to fight the fire. the redwood city fire department, they have a new emergency response boat that will be hitting the water. the vessel was purchased for $986,000 with the help of the department of oakland security grants. the boat is the only one of its kind in that part of the bay area. that they needed to allow for the rescues for the low water. the vessels could be used to pump water for the trucks should the water system ever go down. the 23-year-old woman accused in the deadly hit-and- run accident for them that will be scheduled to go before the judge tomorrow. that gina is scheduled to appear for the status hearing on the charges that she hit several pedestrians last december near the twin peaks lookout killing the 56-year-old woman. accused of being under the influence at the time of the crash. and three other pedestrians that were also hit sured. the man accused in the mass murderer of san francisco's neighborhood is also scheduled to be in court this week and for the preliminary hearing. he is pleading not guilty to killing five people in the home last year. near san francisco's city college. and the prosecutors say that they believe that he knew all the victims. that there are reports that the killings may have stemmed from the dispute over the gambling debt. a healthy outcome to to go underway like 59 degrees with a light breeze. the strong summer storm brought a foot of rain for western north carolina, causing flash floods that left homes under water. police had at least 18 swift water rescues. they are asking people to stay home and off the flooded roads. the state of the emergency has been declared for the county where many people are returning to find their homes tropical storm warning has been issued for parts of hawaii as tropical storm flossie moves across the pacific. the national weather service says that they will be entered around 600 miles east of hilo. in effect for hawaii and other counties with the tropical storm watch that has been issued. expected it pass near the big islands on monday before heading south on monday night. the 10-year-old colorado boy got behind the wheel of the car when they passed out while driving. griffin saunders was riding with her and the 4-year-old boy on friday afternoon as they were going about 60 miles an hour when the 74-year-old great grandmother suddenly passed out. when that did not work, they quickly took the wheel and turned it right into the ditch. >> they told me after that, i'm so glad that on the trail of the west side of the ridge. that victim was flown to eden medical center. health officials are warning people who live in davis to stay away from the pedestrian bridge where a dozen dead bats were found last week. two of the bats have tested positive for rabies. five more dead bats were found yesterday and they are now being tested. but some who use the bridge are not worried. >> the good they do is so much greater than the risk. >> we are just full of them, but we shouldn't be. >> officials say as many as 3,000 bats may be living around the pedestrian overpass. they hide in the bridge, but bats, which are rabid will not be afraid to come out during the day. the pink flamingo has found an unexpected place to call home. the water pollution control plant. these photos were taken of the bird last tuesday. at first they said that they thought the flamingo may have been from the oakland zoo, but the direct to have of animal care tells us that this flamingo was most likely a pet that flew away. >> the bird is free and it is living and, you know, surviving. yeah, to strike again. >> and so far the zoo experts agree that the bird has the ability to fly away from predators and seems to have adapted to their new home. it may not be a natural occurrence, but they are still having fun. a san jose bride with stage four lung cancer celebrated the wedding of her dreams thanks helped them raise more money. about $50,000 to pay for the event. parents struggling to pay for their children that are not covered by insurance. they may not qualify for the grant. the health care insurance plan that does not cover all costs. they will offer free dental screenings for children in the mission district today. the school of dentistry will give children fluoride treatments. the earlier in the competition they broke the record by going more than 44 knots which is just under 51 miles per hour. and thousands of ford hybrid vehicles are being recalled this morning after the company says that some models may not offer the protection in the head-on crashes. the recall affects the hybrids without the panoramic roof. the cars affected were made between january of last year and june of this year. owners will be notified by the company as ford says the dealers will be installing the additional energy absorbing materials to the cars being recalled. no one matched all six
