Blustery as yesterday. I kind of enjoyed it. It was a nice little change. A refreshing change. Today will be slightly warmer as weak High Pressure builds in. But there is another system on the way and it expects to be here tomorrow. Mostly sunny. Partly sunny for a few. And a little bit warmer. 60s, upper 60s or low 70s for sal. Steve, good morning. Right now we are looking at this commute and so far we dont have a lot to talk about. Which is nice. Usually at this time its light. If you want to get on the road to the oakland airport, it looks good. Down to hegenberger, the drive time coming in at less than five minutes. As we look at commute at the bay bridge toll plaza, traffic here doesnt look that bad. As a matter of fact, it looks great into San Francisco. Less than eight minutes. As i look at the south bay map, you can see a little flashing icons with the road worker there, a couple of them near 280 and 880 and the other places. I will tell you we have no reported slow downs because of it and there are no collisions or stalled vehicles reported in the Santa Clara Valley. Lets go back to the desks. Back to the breaking news story we first told you about at 4 30. Earlier this morning four people escaped from a house fire on chase street in novato. Ktvu Tara Moriarty is there now. Tara, the crews are still putting out hot spots. Correct . Reporter yes, that is right. At first crews thought this fire was suspicious because there had been drug activity in the area. They dont know what sparked this fire. Its under investigation. If you take a look behind me, you can see there is plenty of crews here on scene. They are squelching hot spots. These flames breaking out in an attached garage and home off of chase street. Someone called 911 around 3 15 this morning. Crews arrived within four minutes. We were told four people that live if the main house were able to get out safely. The fire gutted the garage. It damaged two coarse and blew out the windows of the homes kitchen. The house, the fire was up a long narrow driveway. So it was an extended time. Reporter 40 firefighters tackled the flames. No one was hurt and interesting side note this property was once part of the mansion. That is what we were told by a firefighter here. That is where the area where it broke out the fire broke out was the servant headquarters. Jesuits once used the mansion as a retreat and grateful dead leased the property to make music. Now the state park has acquired the land. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Coming up we will talk to the homeowner. We will tell you how he used a garden hose to put the fire out. Live in novato im Tara Moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. Also this morning parents will be escorting students back to a Santa Rosa Middle School after they walked out of class yesterday. They left Lawrence Cook middle school this honor of andy lopez. He was the 13yearold boy shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy. He was carrying a fake gun that deputy thought he was real. More than two dozen students participated in yesterdays wacout. We are going to do it for 30 minutes. After leaving the middle school, the students marched to a nearby high school which prompted a lockdown. The superintendent is expected to release a statement early this morning. A fiveyearold girl in oakland is in the hospital this morning after being hit in the eye by a paint ball. It happened last night on ninth street. The little girl was riding in a car with her mother when someone in a passing car shot a paint ball through an open window. She is listed in serious condition and still being treated for her eye injury. Police are looking for the teenager who witnesses say fired that paint ball. Rail cars they dont run over night but there is a new push to have both muni and bart expand service into the Early Morning hours. Alex savidge is live in San Francisco to tell us what is behind this new push. Alex. Reporter supervisor scott weiner here in center lane wants bart and muni to begin running 24 hours a day. He says its both an economic issue for the city and the region and also a safety issue as well. Yesterday supervisor weiner introduced a resolution that would create a working group to focus on late night transportation. He says right now there are simply limited options for people who work off hours in the city and those who visit bars and clubs and leaving late at night and want to get back to the east bay and other parts of the bay area. Those who support expanded hours for bart and muni say San Francisco east nighttime economy employs about 50,000 people and generates about 50 million in tax revenue. The owner of a San Francisco bakery told us the lack of overnight transit options can hurt when it comes to hiring. I had one attractive resume after another but all of them lived in the east bay. And none of them could get here by 5 00 a. M. Reporter and that Transportation Task force will include late Night Industries. It will also be headed up by the San Francisco entertainment commission. The group will report back to the board of supervisors six months from now with possible solutions for after hours transit options. The mother of a student who died in that bus crash on interstate 5 earlier this month has filed a 100 million lawsuit. That is how much she is seeking in damages from fedex. Fedex trucks have a history of catching fire. The truck was on fire when it crashed on the freeway into a tour bus full of students. Ten people were killed including the fedex driver. Time is 5 07. New developments in the case of a suspected burglar in richmond. Contra costa prosecutors have charged two of the burglars accomplices with his murder even though they did not shoot him. Their actions put in motion the circumstances that caused the victim to be shot. Now the Marin County Sheriffs Department says it wants people to know there is no serial attacker on the loose on mt. Tam. There has been speculation about an attacker on mt. Tam after the separate discoveries of the bodies of two women. Investigators emphasize there is nonevidence that an attacker is on no evidence that an attacker son the prowl. The womans body showed no signs of assault. Park officials in Golden Gate Park they are searching for thieves that are ripping plants right out of the ground. Forging in the park that is against the law. Park officials fear they may lose very rare plants and they are worried that someone could die from poisoning if they take wild mushrooms, deadly night shade, or hemlock plants. A man who lives across the street from Golden Gate Park who asked not to be identified says he confronted four elderly women about a month ago who were stealing what appeared to be wild ginger plants. San Francisco Police say they are ready to make field trips to city parks in an effort to catch the plant thieves in the wild. One of californias Biggest Industries could be under attack. Santa clara valley commute has been pretty good. Northbound 280 getting up to highway 17 looks very nice. There are no problems on the Santa Cruz Mountains commute coming over the hill. 85 and 101 are starting off okay. Northbound 101 in San Francisco approaching the 80 split that traffic also looks good. The drive time from 280 to the downtown area is two minutes. Its never that way later but right now it is. Bay bridge toll plaza traffic looks good into San Francisco with no major problems into the city. This is less than an eight minute drive across the span. Lets go to steve. Sal, thank you. We are now hearing from a palo alto rock climber who survived a dangerous fall at yosemite. Now on sunday 26yearold Blake Parkinson fell from a granite wall. While they were able to hoist him up to safety. He is in the hospital being treated for a broken back. I had my back on a i hit my back on a bolder.
