Good morning, its friday august 16th im pam cook. Good morning, im dave clark. Lets check weather and traffic. Steve, can you scare up some sunshine for pam . Not yet. Maybe soon. A lot of low clouds in place. It does look a little cooler. Not much has changed here. Kind of muggy for most of the lows. Only in the north bay finding cool lows. Most areas are around 645 . 64 to 84 by noon. I will tell you yesterday very hot up in parts of lake county and out toward vacaville. I dont think that really changes today. San francisco hovering around seasonal average this time of year. That is exactly what we are going for today. Starting off 59. Yesterday started off at 60. Overall look for lots of sun later on. High clouds. Mild lows for many. A little breezy. Still warm to hot. Mid 60s for some. Only a few 50s. Santa rosa in there. Everyone else in the 60. This is the system the key to our cool down the question is when will it arrive . It may not arrive until late sunday or monday. Mostly sunny. Muggy warm. Very warm lows for many. 60s and 70s and 80s and still some 90s here. Maybe down one or two degrees. Here is sal. Steve, we have major problems out there. This would be because of a crash on northbound 680. What happened here was a truck overturned and blocking all the lanes. It was loaded with 66,000 pounds of u. S. Mail. Its not hazardous but the diesel did spill all over the place. Well have a big delay. Not only northbound but southbound because people are looking at the crash and can clearly see it from the other side of the road. If you look at other Traffic Cameras here, i want to show you interstate 880 is looking good. Steve is talking about the fog. Its a little bit foggy in some areas. Especially if you are driving through deep fog. Remember dont use the high beams. This is a look at the bay bridge. We are getting a little bit of a backup here. At 6 03 lets go back to the desk. A woman has died in east oakland in a fatal shooting. Claudine wong is live in oakland with the details on that and also on a man who was shot and the continuing police investigation. Claudine. Reporter we are at Oakland Police headquarters where investigators are trying to figure out who is responsible for this latest homicide. This comes after police try to crack down on violence this was the scene overnight. Repeated gunfire shook that we dont know what the victims were doing there. Or if they were targeted. But the shooting which happened just after 11 30 last night left a woman dead and a man fighting for his life. The shooting happened in east oakland. And while police say that particular area is usually quiet in terms of calls, the city also says last year 60 of homicides were on the east side. That is why they launched operation cease fire there last year. A program they are launching ones again this year. If the name sounds familiar, it may be because its a program that has been successful in other cities like boston and chicago and because its been tried more than once here in oakland. The program was brought to the city in 2009, expanded and reintroduced in 2012 and now its back again. The goal is pretty simple. Start a dialogue with gang members and repeat offenders and give them two choices. Change your life and do it with help, or continue with illegal activity and feel the full force of the law. Of course the big question is will it work this time around . The big difference between now and when its been launched before is that last month a full time manager was assigned to that program and the hope is that will make the difference to seeing real changes with operation cease fire.
