pam and dave have the day off, let's get right to steve and the weather. a little cool down and fog has increased in a big way and that west wind has kicked up. 50s and 60s and 70s and a few lower 80s, here is sal. on the lower deck of the bay bridge, traffic is at a standstill because of a police investigation and we have alex on the scene and he will tell us exactly what happened but if you are looking for an alternative route, chp is seen leaving the bay area for hayward and that's a great alternative. just go and use 192 instead. it is breaking news as we have been telling you from when we went on the air, traffic remains at a standstill from san francisco and oakland, there is police action that led to all of this, good morning alex. >> reporter: it is extremely slow on the lower deck of the bay bridge and this police investigation is just east of our location and these are the eastbound lanes of bay bridge. investigators out here are piecing together a chp pursuit that ended here on the bay bridge. that pursuit led to a shooting and this was all early this morning and a source we spoke to with knowledge of this investigation said the driver being pursued this morning fired at officers after the culmination of this pursuit. nobody hit by gunfire according to the chp but according to one of our sources, the driver of that car that was being chased, tossed his gun over the bridge and into the bay. the chp is not telling us or confirming who fired the weapons this morning after this pursuit but everything began when officers saw this car speeding and they began to chase it. thatchiest -- they chased it and we do under -- they chased it and we do understand the driver of the car was injured from the crash not from any sort of shooting. now what the story is, is the traffic mess that you see here and we are at a virtual standstill and only one of the five lanes is getting by right now. investigators are piecing together this shooting and pursuit involving the chp this morning. we will stay out here and stay on top of this throughout the morning. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 morning news. a tree has come crashing down just south side the city's fruit veiled district. this is 20th and 13th avenue, tara moriarty, what is happening? >> reporter: well neighbors were not awake when this tree fell but they are now because they are trimming and trying to take care of it and the tree lapped on this white car here. we are where city calls have been here for an hour trying to clear this mess. they say it must have been a very large tree here and the roots if you take a look at the ground you can see how they caused the sidewalk to buckle and there is a rope holding the limb so we don't know if the owner holding the tree needs it. but the branches snapped landing on top of the car and we have a shot for you here. the tree is on private property and crews knocked on the door and right now there is no answer. they are going in the wood chipper and they should be here another couple of minutes but a good reminder to keep your tree trimmed. it could have been a lot worse. here is the only they are of the car if you come back here. were there shots fired? >> yes, police came by to tell us. >> reporter: so you usually don't park here? >> yes, it is unusual for me to park here. >> reporter: well we will stay here a little longer but it is a huge, huge tree and it has a little bit of -- there is a dangerous situation so city workers have been taking extra time to trim some of the extra branches. live in oakland, tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 morning news. oakland police are looking for the person responsible for a deadly hit-and-run accident. it happened on 81st and international. police say the driver dragged the bicyclist more than 50 yards. they have not released his name and officers are looking for a silver sedan possibly with a broken windshield. a fire in oakly which burned dangerously close to home. live in oakly with how recent cuts to the fire department almost spelled disaster for that neighborhood. >> reporter: if you take a look behind me, you can see where the smoke is still harboring above here and causing quite a bit of a breathing problem and if we turn around over here, you can see why. the fire started in that field and the blaze started 5:30, the fire torched almost three acres. they say a lack of local firefighters because of budget cuts increased the danger. >> because of our station closures and only having three engine companies we have to rely on neighboring jurisdictions in order to put a fire out like this. a large grass fire tends to be labor intensive. >> we are told versers stay out late to work it. there were no other reported injuries or damage to homes. coming up in the next half hour, we will talk to some neighbors and show you what they think about what handed out here. reporting live in oakly, lorraine blanco ktvu channel 2 morning news. well a young man is in the hospital after falling from the roof of a petaluma school. it happened shortly after 12:30 this morning. a 19-year-old man tumbled off that roof. he was rushed to the hospital but at this time we do not know the extent of those injuries. but apparently he was with a yup of friends and they called for help. defending will will lynch, and reverand jerold linder is accused of raping will lynch and his brother. he said the beating was triggered by memories of a alleged abuse. coming up at 615, the operation the president may face in at least one of his campaign stops. let's get back to sal with more breaking news on the lower deck of the bay bridge, sal?
