mild, nice blue skies. we were wishing for a little rain mark. nice to have just some normal rainfall around here. but it looks like yeah, we're kind of a quiet weather pattern, in fact, a cooling trend that begins tomorrow across the northern california so that would be kind of the change in the short term. you heard about the rain developing redeveloping that portions of kentucky. in fact, that's happening right now, as we take a closer look at the radar, and it looks like those showers that developing with it with the help of the afternoon heating, so we're watching out for that watch posted for today, with some more showers and thunderstorms in the forecast, in fact, will come in closer right now and show you talk about that. the flood flood watches does include lake tahoe's south lake tahoe. and out towards portions of nevada as well. that's in effect for today, now right now, based on some fog out there, but you'll notice, some clearing out towards portions of the look at the numbers right now. san francisco 65 santa rosa 76 some eighties out toward concord, walnut creek and san jose 83 degrees. here's a live camera looking out towards sfo this afternoon with some blue sky up above, but still some lingering cloud cover, but that could break up over the next few hours with the partly cloudy conditions so that the overall weather pattern not moving around too much. we still have this area of low pressure offshore this area of high pressure inland. you can see it kind of sets up a corridor that moisture moving in from the south of monsoonal moisture. so that's what we have in place for today, and this will generate once again. some more thunderstorms in the sierra for us, partly cloudy for the coast. some hot temperatures inland. that same area of low pressure offshore wants to adrift closer to our coastline tomorrow, and this will send temperatures down and not moving around too much this weekend. so here's the breakdown for today. in fact, most areas today should be a little bit warmer compared to yesterday. especially the coast and right around the bay. you can see san francisco downtown, getting close to 70 degrees santa rosa 86 last hot day inland. we're thinking some low to mid nineties this afternoon toward fairfield and antioch in san jose 87. the winds do pick up this afternoon from around 15 to 25. miles an hour. here is look ahead. your five day forecast. you will see temperatures begin at the beginning to cool off in your friday forecast and pretty much the same story into the weekend . the slight cool down for both this month. we're focusing on california's drought and the dire situation at our state's largest reservoir lake shasta. it provides water not only the farmers in the central valley but also several regional bay area water systems like shasta's 10 miles outside of redding, ktvu. esmark's air shows us how the drought is taking a toll on the lake's water level. this year were 124 ft. down. which is a significant loss of a lot of storage. no matter where you look at, like shasta, you can see the dramatic bathtub ring bright orange soil, contrasting with the blue water and the green tree line. it is a visual reminder of the severity of california's drought and one not seen on a day to day basis in places like the bay area, but for those who work and live in like shasta, it serves as a daily warning the past three years. it's been really, really dreadful to see every these days having zero rainfall throughout the once don bader manages the northern california region for the u. s bureau of reclamation, which controls the water supply flowing downstream. we spoke to him standing on top of shasta dam. why are we that below? well we just went through the worst three years consecutive years for lack of rainfall. first three years of drought we've had up here since the stems from a belt. right now, like shasta is about 124 ft below its maximum level and take a look at this. this is an original construction tower from one this dam was built in the 19 forties. it begins to be visible when the lake drops about 90 ft. below its maximum level. everybody starts to feel the pinch when they start realizing that they're not going to get the normal amount of water that they normally do. unlike other reservoirs that depend on snow runoff about 90% of the water flowing into lake shasta comes directly from pure rainfall. the ongoing drought means farmers in the central valley have now been cut back to just 18% of the water they would get in a normal year. less water also means less electricity is generated from the five massive generator turbans at the base of the dam, and some, like water must be held back so it can be sent down the sacramento river seen here at the sundial bridge and reading so that migrating salmon can survive. the drought is also impacting tourism, a key driver of the local economy. we're standing underneath the lake. does this bring the drought home for you? absolutely fathomable to be this deep in the water that i used to believe. you know, it was so high, christopher fairmont from pittsburgh and his friends from the bay area have come out houseboating here for the past decade, they say seeing is believing for those that don't leave the bay area. they're not going to see this. at the holiday harbor marina workers must actually pushed the docks out into the receding lake in order to keep their business running. normally we're back up in our cove, but due to local low lake levels, we do move our docs out. it takes about two weeks to move them out. and what is happening here at lake shasta also directly impacts water policy in the bay area, such as watering restrictions and drought surcharges on your bill conservation. is a new way of life. santa clara valley water district board chair john varela says the district imports about 40% of its water from outside sources, one of them being like shasta. dependent on water that we import, which is less than we've received in the past because of the drought, but there is a bright side shasta can fill up after just one good year of rainfall. it was last completely full in 2019, and despite some adjustments, the lake is still open to all. we've rebounded from this from this before and here on the lake, even though it's down. there's tons of water out here for people to recreation and risky and vacation, the main message from the locals here conserve water if you can. if you can serve water. it helps all of california just like shasta reporting from lake shasta. mark sayer, ktvu fox two news. in our series on the california drought continues all month long as we examine its impact and the community response. you can also turn the ktvu .com slash drought for even devastate delta communities and the ecosystem. they say the state should make recycling conservation and a new water storage system. top priorities still to come here at noon, democrats moving closer to passing a massive tax and spending bill in the senate how that bill is aimed at reducing inflation here in the united states. and a barrier weather looks like another hot day inland, but a cooling behind us on the oakland estuary? yes starting to see the sunshine break out across more parts of the bay area compared to earlier this week, even out towards the coast seen little bit of some sunshine out toward ocean beach. so today, looking pretty good. it's still another hot day in lynn. here is kind of the breakdown for today as you can see kind of the headline more sun for today. temperatures ranging from the sixties to the nineties. the winds do pick up this afternoon could be breezy. you would expect by mid to late afternoon winds could be around 20. 25 miles an hour. here's a satellite. you can see all the fog hanging out towards the coast and also once again out toward the sierra. some thunderstorms could redevelop this afternoon that some pretty good downpours yesterday and another flood watch posted for today, right on through this evening, so this does include closer to lake tahoe closer to mammoth as well. so the flash flood watch in place throughout the evening hours, with some more thunderstorms that could develop over the next few hours. here's a satellite though we've been watching that persistent fog bank, but it's kind of losing its grip here near portions of the coastline from san francisco's ocean beach down towards the parts of the state mateo county coastline, but here you can pick out still some fog for the marine headlands as well. so not 100% in the clear, but that fog layer is beginning to break up and as it does break up, we are seeing temperatures warm up coast side. sixties out toward half moon bay right now, seventies up in the north bay, eighties england and these warm temperatures right now in the eighties low nineties were expecting some mid nineties later on today, here's our live camera looking out toward sfo with some blue sky up above, but you can still see some lingering fog patches on the left portion of your screen, so still not completely in the clear just yet, and we could still have partly cloudy skies. for the coast this afternoon, so it's kind of a lot happening. we've been talking about this area of high pressure heating up portions of northern california. the circulation around that high is setting up that southerly flow. we also kind of have that to contributing here in this area of low pressure that southerly flow, so with that that tropical moisture has been approaching the bay area source of instability. that's why it has been feeling so humid this week, but still with that pattern in place. looks like cool temperatures for the coast , mainly in the sixties to with some hot numbers inland, but everybody cools off a bit tomorrow as this guy comes on board for your friday and temperature is not moving around too much this weekend. so it looks like today's kind of like the last hot day in linville, bringing some relief beginning tomorrow and then into the weekend as well forecast ties this afternoon san francisco getting close to the 70 degree mark, i think we'll probably bump up that livermore temperature. probably approaching the mid nineties. later on today, 95 maybe 96 san jose in the upper eighties and a bunch of eighties up in the north paper, santa rosa and in napa, so here's a look ahead. your five day forecast. you will notice temperatures cooling off a bit in your friday outlook and then that trend will continue into the weekend with some clouds in the morning. partly cloudy skies into the afternoon hours and looks like this pattern bull up actually persist into next week. so one more hot day today that some relief moves in by tomorrow and
