sure the roads were clear from debris following a rainy, windy storm. >> i think they need to be safer and cautious of the flash floods, because there is water in forestville this high be, man, scary. >> reporter: it surged past the 32-foot mark, effectively cutting off this neighborhood on drake road. the only way out by boat or high clearance truck. neighbors say there was a flurry of activity overnight as people made their way to high ground while they still could. >> trying to jump out of here really quick. they have that access road by my house, so all night, it was pretty busy. >> residents here are tellingmy they will take advantage of the current dry weather. before the next round of storm. they are expecting those storm to roll in sometime tonight. >> is this a situation where mandatory evacuations were in place, but some people chose to stay in are their homes? >> some people chose to stay in their homes. i've been here many times. this is a low-lying area near the requiren river, and -- russian river, and residents here are used to it, or as used to it as you can be. the russian river, steve, will he the next round of rain play a role to there for the residents there? >> yes. flood warning at johnson's beach extended through tuesday. the napa river is receding, but i think they'll and get some rapid rise again tomorrow as this next system comes in. mammoth mountain, 8 to 12 feet and counting at mammoth mountain, and there's a lot more on the way. and flood warning extended until tuesday afternoon for the russian river at johnson beach. southern novato, over 11.5 inches of rain. . >> so not bad. we're quiet right now. there might be a few little showers, but generally it's mostly cloudy, muggy. things started to pick up where we don't want it to. you can see already some light rain beginning to fall and some of that could be steady at types. tremendous moisture coming across. we'll talk more about that in our weather segment in about 10 minutes, and see what's in store for the next few days, guys. >> we're also closely watching that napa river coming over it banks in some spots yesterday, but as steve said, the water is starting to recede, stale flood warning through this afternoon. close to 8 inches of rain fell over the weekend in some parts of napa county. >> and several school closures today because of damage. the office of education has closed all school in the clover dell school district. >> reporter: some big problems on highway 17. that big mudslide partially blocking highway 17 near vine hill road. overrule when lane of traffic open in each -- only one lane of traffic open in each direction. when you get a little further down from here, it's slow going. you can hear caltrans crews. they ever out using front-end loaders trucks to clear the highway just north of vine hill road. this massive mudslide happened just about 3:00 this morning. the debris actually crashed into a news van that was drive along the highway at the time. thankfully the man behind the wheel of that van had only minor injuries. caltrans estimates about a thousand cubic yards of earth gave way this morning, and be moving all of it out of the way could take all day. caltrans has brought in front loaders, dump trucks, bulldozers, and moved the boulders, the tree stumps. right now, it's just the effort of trying to clear the little debris, and then pg&e can come in and assess their power lines. >> reporter: and just up the road, this is another mudslide blocking highway 35 near summit road. an huge tree you can see came down on to power lines as a result of this slide, and the roadway is shut down entirely. we spoke with larry, who lives a at nearby winery. he was trying to get home this morning, but he's going to have to try to find another way to get to his house. >> it said road closed, and i thought, well, there are mudslides, rock slides, occasion lay tree blocking the whole lane, but this was like the whole side of a mountain came down with a big tree, and it's totally blocked. no getting around it. >> reporter: and there's all sorts of damage throughout the santa cruz mountains today. intense rain coupled with those very strong winds, so there's a lot of cleanup to do in this area. an lot of that cleanup already underway, but, of course, complicating matters, guys, more rain on the way in a matter of hours, and we're see interesting light sprinkles in this area. that's going to complicate things, especially for those crews try to be get 17 back open, but it may not happen until later tonight, or possibly tomorrow morning. chp investigating the cause of a crash that killed one person this morning. it happened around 8:40 on novato boulevard near the sonoma county border. one car went off the road. no further details have been released. and this is a picture of a sinkhole. so far there is no word on when both lanes of that road will be back open. chp suggests using novato boulevard for drivers trying to get to or from west marin. >> highway 1 is expected to reopen this afternoon after being shut down for hours dow a mudslide. it was load since 11:00 last night when that mudslide happened on highway 1 in pacifica. traffic began backing up around 4:00 this morning during the commute to san francisco, and many people had to find alternate routes just to get to the city. the mudslide was about 10 feet tall, and caltrans brought in crews to haul the debris away. >> caltrans will be removing two more truckloads of debris from the roadway, and then it will be open falling on the hill side. >> big problem texas the sierra. bodily injury direction of 80 near donner lake are back open after the west blind were closed overnight due to a mudslide. the eastbound lanes of 80 were also shut down in the same area due to some downed power lines. crews had to bring in heavy equipment to clear away the mud. last night several tahoe area ski resorts updated their social media pages to let skiers and snow beards know their mountains would be cleared away today. there is also a risk of flooding due to the rain in some spots. and don't forget, you can download along fairly well on this monday afternoon. back to our coverage obviously the weekend storms, which is now being blamed for at least deaths across the bay area. authorities say the weather likely played a role in a crash that killed a takes driver yesterday morning, not far from the oakland airport. the taxi driver lost control of his car and plunged into the oakland estuary. his name hasn't been released. he was the only person in the taxi. >> the coroner's bureau has identified a man killed this morning in a fiery crash on 880 and some fremont in the northbound lanes at highway 262 junction there. 29-year-old carlos crashed into the highway overpass support column. his vehicle then caught fire. the cause of that crash is still under investigation, and chp is looking into whether another vehicle might have been involved. >> and a woman in san ramon has been identified. she was killed by a falling tree while walking on the canyon lakes golf course saturday morning. she was knocked unconscious by the falling tree ask died a at hospital. >> and in golden gate park, a man added too be rescued after a tree fell, penning him underneath, near a restaurant yesterday. several bystanders called 911 immediately. firefighters responded and used a large metal bar to help lift the tree off the man. the 50-year-old was transported to the hospital with what appear to be only minor injuries. and here is fee tow of a rescue in gilroy, sent by win of our viewers on twitter. emergency crews were called in to get a woman out of her vehicle on highway 101. that road was closed when water covered a large section of the highway, just north of highway 25 near christopher ranch. and taking a live look around the area, we're getting a brief break from the rain, but don't put 11 inches of rain in the past few days. oakland hills three, mount davidson, and alook marsh creek road. not too much going on right now, but in the north pay, things are beginning to show up on radar. here is the rain developing up north. 50s some 60s, talk about humidity in the air. just an incredible amount, and now the breeze is picking up with a high wind watch out, posted. that will start to really pick unlate tonight and tomorrow with the ground sosatureated. 28 in truckee, winter storm warning is already out, goes through thursday. at least the snow level has come down. so it's attention to the west, as this system begins to work it's way in, and it has a lot of moisture to work with, and the rainfall amounts, the heaviest will be to the north this time, bit i think another 2 to 4 to the north could easily happen. after thursday, we'll get a break. no, really, we'll get a break, we'll need it. because the ground just says i've sucked up about as much rain as i can for days. >> speaking of downs trees, highway 9 is closed just south of boulder creek because of those downed trees, and caltrans does not expect it to reopen until later this afternoon. residents also closely watching the rising san lorenzo river. one woman who lives near the river moved her rv to higher ground. some trees on saturated soil fell into utility lines yesterday, knocking out pg&e service to more than a dozen coupler. >> and sat least 10 homes in the caramel valley were flooded overnight. the river overflowed at 11:00, and a live you broke the hondo area. most residents chose to remain in their homes. the waters are receding. a flash flood warning in the area has now expired, but deputies are on-site to monitor conditions. >> if you plan to fly three in today, check to see make some modifications and relabel it as trumpcare, i'm fine with that. >> republican senator rand paul is one of those who was adamant that no repeal of the affordable care act should happen until there is a replacement plan in place. he tweeted that he spoke to president-elect trump, and that trump agreed. a new poll finds that more than half of americans view empty president obama favorably as he leaves office. the poll said that 57% of those surveyed said they view president obama favorablely, but only about 40% of americans say their fames better off now than when he first took office, and only 32% of the public said that president obama has kept his campaign promises, although 44% say he tried to keep the promises but failed. >> the government center is back in business today in santa cruz. 24th -- santa clara. the 1300 employees who work at the building were turned away, and the public was advised to go on-line for the services they needed. courts in santa clara county are facing a massive traffic ticket backlog. police issued more than 2,000 traffic tickets every week in the county. however, according to the mercury news, budget cut backs have prompted court officials to assign only one clerk full time to enter the data. that clerk is about 12,000 tickets behind. court officials say they are taking steps to address the problem. among other things, they are hiring two new clerks who are expected to begin helping out sometime next month. >> and in san francisco, four new supervisors were sworn into office yesterday. and san francisco police are investigating a shooting. police responding to a report of shots fired. a man was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound, which is considered to be life threatening. no arrests have been made. police have not released the mans name or said anything a beauty possible mote effect for the shooting. >> a young man was killed on a b.a.r.t. train in oak in and a brazen shooting a year ago, and police still have no leads on a suspect. the shooting sparked a wave of controversy because it was not caught on surveillance cam afterwards b.a.r.t. revealed a majority of its trains had decoy cameras. b.a.r.t.
