We saw an air tanker. The air attack very important today. Obviously still very dangerous fire conditions there . Have you noticed the fires that are breaking out, the humungous ones are in the south. Thats a function of the drought. El nino did not deliver at all this past winter. So the explosive growth. Of course, the weather conditions a big factor. Also the drought. Extremely dry. Taking a look at the temperature pattern out there and the fog, just limited to the coastline closer to Santa Barbara in that area. Taking a look at the one center close to the fire zone, it is already 94 degrees. Winds sustained at 11 miles an hour. That means you could have gusts approaching 20 Miles Per Hour. Of course, the terrain and access always challenging. Look at that humidity down to singledigits around 7 . So thats a big concern for the fire crews in this area. As far as the plan for today, take a look at the highs. Topping 100 degrees. Winds variable around 5 to 10 Miles Per Hour and humidity levels at 10 to 15 . We are down to singledigits in the fire zone right now. That will continue to be a big challenge for the fire crews. We had so much rainfall here in the bay area, northern california. Its helping us out a little bit in terms of of course, we have fires and the growth out there, but things very dry to the south. That fire has gone from a few acres to thousands of acres in a few hours. You talk about the humidity at 70 . Whats the number we would like to see . 100 . If you go to ocean beach they are at 7 . Yeah. That one site. They could be down to maybe 3 or 4 in some parts of the fire zone. You wish you could bring in the marine layer and transport that fog. You appreciate the work the firefighters have been doing. When you are in gear, trying to put this out in 100 to 105 degree temperatures, you got to feel for them. Nothing else that could reignite. We have been seeing calfire crews coming through and trying to pull out belongings from some of these burned out homes and businesses to save whatever they can for people once they return. There is also the issue of power. Pg e trying to get power restored in this area. I want to bring in Bryce Bennett with calfire. Talk to me about how soon all of those evacuees might be able to return to lower lake. Its hard to say. We have so many different agencies working on so many different things. Water, sewer, the power lines. Everything. We need to make sure its safe for the public to reenter this area. All those agencies working together to get it done as quick as we can. We dont have a timeline quite yet. Reporter you feel comfortable though, although you never want to get too comfortable, you feel fairly comfortable with where the fire is at this point . Yes. The fire is under control for 40 today. Crews working around, looking at hot spots. We want to get the hot spots taken care of. Today a probability of ignition of 100 . Victoria is live in the community of feeli in this afternoon. Reporter it has been devastating. This is a Small Community here. We are on hess road off the 138. You can see what the fire did to this community. Crews will be coming through with cadaver dogs to sniff for anyone who might not have gotten out because the fire blew through so quickly. This fire doubled in size overnight, growing now to more than 30,000 acres. This has really been challenging for firefighters to get a hold of because of the dry conditions and the wind in this area, which is just starting to kick up again this afternoon. It spread those flames really quickly. Officials called the growth of this fire explosive and said this seems to be the new normal for fire conditions this year. They plan to hit the fire hard today with helicopters and with air tankers. In my 40 years of fighting fire, i have never seen a fire behavior so extreme as it was yesterday. Rapid rates of spread. We have had spotting up to a half a mile ahead of the fire. We have a red flag warning for the next several days for hot and dry conditions. Yesterdays actions were totally defensive on the incident. We were doing a lot of structure defense and we are trying to get ahead of the fire to protect the affected communities of keenbrook, liddle creek, wrightwood. Reporter firefighters from across california have been brought into fight this fire. We know we have crews also from northern california. Right now more than 1300 personnel are working to contain it. It is zero percent contained. Crews are assessing the damage. They dont have a count of how many homes with burned. Structures have been lost. That includes a mcdonalds on the cajon pass and the historic summit inn restaurant. More than 34,000 homes have been evacuated, and that amounts to roughly 82,000 people. I was able to get up this morning and get some eyes on it from the air. In a word, it was devastating. A lot of homes lost yesterday. There will be a lot of families that come home to nothing. Live in phelan, fox news. And a quick question. We heard the firefighter in your report talk about how some homes were indeed saved. Is there a lot of structure protection still going on in other communities outside of phelan . Absolutely. Just driving down this road here, the 138, we see firefighters stationed at many homes in this community. Again in wrightwood they are trying to keep the fire away from those homes. Even in this community in phalen, we see some success stories. Some homes have been saved. They are just torched. One more for you. Flying drones has been a problem for calfire and they told people not to fly the drones around fire scenes. Have you had any reports over the last 24 hours of aircraft, because aircraft is critical on this blue cut fire, any reports of drones in the area . Reporter no. So far no reports of drones being able to hamper these fire conditions. Really its been the folks that have decided to stay back in their homes and not evacuate. That has been the biggest problem for firefighters because they cant get in. They cant do their job because they are worried about protecting the folks who have reduced to leave. Thats why the Sheriffs Department is asking folks to evacuate if they are asked to do so. Thank you so much. Reporting live from San Bernardino county. The red cross says more than 1,000 disaster volunteers are headed to louisiana to help with flood relief efforts. Its killed at least 11 people. Its damaged at least 40,000 homes. Their next door neighbor, you can get a sense of how high the water was just by looking at the waterline on the house. You see the debris line on the window here. A note from State Farm Insurance on it. We met up with katherine and her husband who is spending his 90th birthday without electricity and watching floodwaters rush into the home they have lived in for decades. I think this has been one of the foggiest summers for the coast in recorded, at least in my mind. Daly city, portions of San Francisco, more sunshine breaking out over downtown San Francisco and for the rest of the bay area. Inland it is warming up already. Walnut creek 84. Livermore 82 degrees. San jose 8. Santa rosa checking in at 71 degrees. So patchy fog near the coast and bay. We are tracking this area of High Pressure offshore. Its strengthening and weakening over the next few days. Today cool coast. Patchy fog. Warm to hot inland. Lots of sunshine there. And then well just monitor some minor temperature changes over the next few days. But today take your pick. We have a big range out there. Santa rosa will go with 81 degrees. Triple digits to clearlake. The heat a factor there. Out towards vacaville 100 degrees. Around the rim of the base 70s to 80.
