that ended in a fiery crash. >> what to let up to the bizarre chase. >> the san francisco fire department ambulance was smoldering and stuck on top of a guard rail on treasure island after this morning's crash. this was the end of the bizarre police chase that happened just after 8:00 this morning. authority say a woman stole this rig from in front of the ambassador hotel while the ambulance crew was inside it treating the woman. a tracking device helped officers find the ambulance and that led to a police pursuit eastbound on the bay bridge . the woman lost control in the that ambulance as she exited the treasure island. >> after the ambulance crashed the woman behind the wheel was able to hop out of the cab before the ambulance caught fire . incredibly enough she was not hurt and was immediately taken to cut. >> investigators are still trying to figure out exactly how the woman was able to steal the ambulance this morning. it was a left running during the emergency call at the hotel which is standard procedure to keep the equipment powered. the fire department says the rake likely would have been locked. >> even though the ambulance is on it gets turned on and the keys get taken out of the ignition but the ambulance stays on and the ambulance actually locks up. so as two how this occurred whether the ambulance crew did that procedure or if they had a turned off and lockdown or if ambulance is unlocked. we don't know. >> authorities aren't sure why this woman took the ambulance in the first place . although it's possible she was trying to get her hands on drugs. although the fire department says all medications are kept in a secure lockbox on board. police achieved from all over the east bay came together today in walnut creek to talk what issues facing
