parents we spoke to would like it to be taught on one day and use the other four days to talk about differences. >> just bring more into the week so true acceptance can be taught and people who have different beliefs as well so that it's taught all encompassing. >> the school stresses that parents can opt out but some parents believe doing that just alien eights their child. >> they're saying they believe something different. instead of it being inclusive you're basicallily telling that child you're different because they don't believe the same thing someone else does. >> we'll pull our children out for the whole week and deal with it that way. >> reporter: after meeting today parents say they're hopeful both sides can come to a compromise. as of now the district plans to teach the course as is starting april 1 s. new developments in the latest tech scandal involving san francisco police officers. the officers accused of sending racist and homophobic text messages on personal cell phones. as ktvu's fox 2 reports the public defender is lacking into the arrests those officers were involved in. >> reporter: last year a similar scandal involved 14 officers many of whom kept their jobs because the city waited too long to fire or discipline them. on friday public defender jeff asked the district attorney, george gascon, for copies of the texts, a list of all arrests and police reports written in the last 10 years by the officers in the latest investigation. >> under the law the district attorney is obligated to provide any evidence which might shed some question as to the credibility of police officers. racial bias is an important issue when you're trying to determine whether an officer is believable or not. so if you have evidence that in this case officers engaged in bigotry, that's something that would be admissible in court. >> reporter: newest controversy is an investigation into this officer who was accused of but not charged with sexual saw. prosecutors said he sent racist and homophobic texts to other officers including now retired lieutenant kurtis lu. his attorney said another officer made the majority of the offending remarks. at one point during their text exchanges, lieutenant lu actually told the officer, stop. if i didn't know who you were married to i would think you were a racist. and that's because the officer was married to an african- american woman, they have kids together. so i think the lieutenant was uncomfortable disciplining him for beg racist obviously because he had made life choices that showed that he was not, but it doesn't excuse the offensive language. >> reporter: in a statement the union set condemns the appalling racist behavior committed by a handful of officers. they have disgraced their uniform and profession. all this comes while there's still an ongoing feud between george gascon and chief greg summer. gascon says he didn't learn about the recent texts until recently. in san francisco, henry lee, ktvu fox 2 news. new at 6:00, ken stabler's widow filed a new lawsuit against the nfl today. rose stabler joins several former players seeking class action status against the league. stabler played for the raiders for a decade. he died last july from colon cancer but the lawsuit says he also suffered from chronic brain damage. the complaint argues that stabler and others were left out of the nfl's $1 billion concussion sl. stabler was elected to the hall of fame this year. the contra costa county district attorney filed formal embezzlement charges against the treasureer of a youth football league. she is accused of embezzling more than $200,000. peyton remains in custody tonight on $20 0,000 bail. he allegedly used the money on personal bills and trips. san ramon police say peyton was arrested this week at the apartment complex where he had been evicted. >> tonight federal drug officials say their number one priority in the sacramento area is now locating the source of counterfeit painkillers blamed for nine deaths. these are the examples of the phony pills made to look like tablets of the painkiller norco. instead, they contain a much stronger painkiller called fentd nil as at sometimes lethal dose. >> in some situations they're telling us they got it from friends, from neighbors, from relatives, and in some situations, they may even have a norco prescription, but they ran out of pills and decided to take one from someone else. >> officials now say there have been 36 fentanyl overdoses recently in the sacramento area, nine of which were fatal. a man and a woman from san jose have been identified as the two killed after that bizarre crash into a fighter jet. take a look. authorities say the couple crashed through a gate at the air force base near fresno. as they were being chased by the chp their suv hit an f a-18 jet that was parked. they've now been identified as a 29-year-old and 36-year-old. reports say both had warrants out for their arrests in the bay area. he was hit and killed by an out-of-control suv while driving -- or directing traffic, rather, on i-80. chp officer nathan taylor left behind a wife and three young boys. he spent time working in san jose and left an impression on law enforcement around the bay area. ken macdougall shows us how the business is on a mission to honor the officer dinld line of duty. >> reporter: steam, foam, and piping hot coffee brewed for a good cause. the human being coffee shop in rockland is doing what it can for the family of feelen officer nay than taylor. the officer was hit and killed in the line of duty by an out- of-control driver. >> one of our main goals was doing a small local business, to be able to participate to give back to the community. and everything we were hearing about the taylor family was that he was amazing. we really wanted to be able to get back. >> 10% of the proceeds will go towards the family, a gesture that touched many in the community. dozens came out to get in line to buy a cup, filling the line to the coffee shop. >> i'm glad to see the community come around and uplift this whole thing and support him. >> we're actually on our way to southern california. we knew we had to stop. we had to stop today because they had their signs up. we wanted to make sure we made a stop. >> reporter: many of the customers paid more than the actual cost of their coffee. >> $25 for a $4.50 coffee. >> these officers run around protecting us. once in awhile it's good to give back. >> reporter: officers also showed their support. bran ton straw says seeing the community's love helps everyone cope with the tragedy. >> this just means a lot. another example of our great community here in this region that are stepping up and helping out the family, and the three boys, and it's just very inspiring to see what the community has done for the family and just how everybody has come together. it's been a great deal for us tonight where is he now. checking the friday evening commute, a quick look at traffic right now. it doesn't look too bad out there. pretty sparse. >> it looks all right. moving well. here's what it looks like by the golden gate bridge right now. actually, looking good on this friday night in both directions. reservation numbers show the new tesla model 3 is in high demand. we showed you long lines of people waiting to put down a $1,000 deposit. after talley tinge-person and on-line reservations we learned there are some 200,000 reservations. tesla hasn't announced what production will look like when it starts building that new car next year. if it's the same rate it is currently building the model s it will likely take two years for everyone to get one of those new cars. a positive report on jobs in america. the labor department says 215,000 people got jobs last month. and one sign of the recovery, we found a job and assistance center was mostly quiet today. they say they are down 50 to 60%. a seminar for experienced and older workers only had three clients looking for better jobs today. >> i'm very confident that i alley get something. people are giving me a lot of feedback. and just helping to buoy my confidence. and i actually had an interview yesterday. i have another one scheduled this afternoon. >> tonight the labor department also says many people who had dropped out of the labor force are now looking again, and now finding new jobs. and the markets responded to the stronger than expected jobs report with gains today. the dow rose 107 points, the nasdaq added 44, and the s & p was up 13. in sonoma county the release of a convicted sex offender is raising alarms tonight. he was supposed to be placed in petaluma but wasn't. ktvu's rob roth reports on a last minute change in plans. >> reporter: in typically quiet petaluma the idea of a high- risk sex offender being released does not sit well with many residents. >> it's definitely scary. >> reporter: the plan was for jonathan hoppner, convicted seven times for sexual battery in the past three years, to move into a petaluma hotel after his release from jail today. but because of the publicity and public outcry in town, the california department of corrections and rehabilitation told ktvu the hotel has backed out and plans have changed. hoppner will not be released to petaluma. >> so what happens now is that mr. hoppner will register as a transient under megan's law. he will be supervised by state parole agents. >> reporter: petaluma police say they received word hoppner was being released and said they would put the word out to the community of the exact location where hoppner would be staying. >> high risk means there's a high probability that he will reoffend. so, you know, while we hope that our partners in the justice system have corrected his behavior and rehabilitated this offender, we have no way of knowing for sure. >> reporter: hoppner, who is described as developmentally disabled pleaded no contest to misdemeanor molesting of a 15- year-old girl on the campus of santa rosa junior college last year while on parole for a similar incident. he's barred from beg near campus but residents $concerns. >> i think he will probably do it again. and nobody is watching. >> well, if he's done his time, i think he should be able to live where he needs to live. >> reporter: hoppner is being released insonoma county, but we're not being told where. only that it's not inpetaluma. the fremont police department is grieving following the death of one of its canine officers. he joined the department in 2014 and worked more than 100 incidents ages patrol officers, working street crimes, swat, and major crimes. on february 24th he fell ill with an autoimmune deceased and could not be saved. he was just shy of his third birthday when he passed away. texas senator ted cruz is slated to headline a california republican party convention in burlingame. the event is scheduled to take place on april 30th ahead of the presidential primary in june. cruz is hoping to build support among state party members and edge out front runner donald trump. there are 172 republican delegates up for grabs in california. water officials today announced that farmers in the northern sacramento valley can expect their full water supplies this year while some in the central california area will likely get only a small part of what they asked for. the u.s. bureau of rec clam plaitionz says in spite of almost average rainfall this year california remains in a drought emergency. and while northern california farmers are seeing relief, officials say some san joaquin valley farmers will get just 5% of their usual federal allotments. farmers who are getting the water say it's vital for them and important to the local economy. >> i'm assuming that would translate into better jobs throughout the system that is involved with agriculture, both on farm as well as with the supporting services. >> meantime state officials say they'll provide about 45% of the water requested by customers. more than twice last year's amount. >> time to get another check of the weather. another dry day but beautiful around the bay area. back to meteorologist mark tamayo for a check of the forecast. >> feels like the middle of summer. it feels like a june out there with the repeating forecast of fog in the morning, sun thine afternoon. but it has been nice for the afternoon hours with those readings ranging from the upper 50s near the cost. no drastic temperature patterns out there. get ready for next week. that could be somewhat a different story. we had 50s out towards pacifica and san francisco. lots of sick around the bay. the warmest locations inland, concord, antioch back up into the upper 70s. here's our live camera look out toward san francisco bay. a bit of haze. that will be happening later on tonight. here's a closer look at the satellite. right now we have some patchy fog. in fact, edging a little bit closer to our coastline so they can see evidence of the marine layer. also the steady on shore winds, winds around 10 to 24506789 will help transport some of the fog back into the basement current numbers out there showing you santa rosa checking in at 62, san how say 63, livermore 64, and more sick out toward walnut creek. san francisco only 56 degrees. definitely want to bundle up near the coast. overnight lows, areas of fog, widespread 40s across the bay area. so we will be waking up to some gray across the bay a little warmer than today. no big changes out here in the pacific. the storm track still heading way up to our north. with that, sick and 70s for your saturday. the warmest day of the weekend. we have this weak system move in from the north on sunday. as a result we'll bring in some minor cooling for sunday into monday. at most maybe a few sprinkles that could be sunday night into early monday morning, primarily up to the north bay coastline. here is our forecast model. 9:00 a.m. tomorrow morning, showing you some fog out there focused near the coast and near parts of the basement partly to mostly sunny skies. we could still have some stubborn overcast near parts of the shoreline. temperatures out there, most areas a little warmer than today. as you can see, santa rosa and napa low 70s, antioch 78, san jose right around 74, and san mateo 68 degrees. here is a look ahead. your five-day forecast, just a little bit cooler for sunday into monday. get ready, temperatures zooming back up for tuesday and wednesday of next week. in fact, by wednesday the warmest locations, julie and ross could be approaching the mid-80s. you might think no more rain for the rest of the season. there's a chance we could have some rainfall next weekend. so a week from tomorrow. then possibly mid-april could be very active as well. so the rainy season may not be over yet. between now and then it could be warming up. >> i can't believe we're going to be in the 80s on wednesday. how much above average is that? >> that's going to be a good eight to 12 degrees above average. april is always the month we're forecasting in the bay area, the most challenging. you could have one extreme one week, next week completely different. >> what about in the mountains? are we looking at any more snow? >> i think with that april deal, it could be setting up. by mid-april it could feel more like winter. >> mark, thank you. >> well, san jose sharks fans may notice a new song after goals during the next
