Year. We just received an update from School Officials saying schools will be back open tomorrow. This comes after the complete closure of the Los Angeles Unified School district. The fbi says the threat turned out to be not credible. An email sent from germany to School Board Members threatened and attacked and poison gas. The threat involved schoolchildren. Because of that a decision was made early this morning to close all the schools. That does not mean it is conclusively one thing or another. Some have used words that are inappropriate like hoax or other things whether its criminal mischief or someone testing vulnerabilities, we do not know enough to say definitively. We do know it will be safe for children to return tomorrow. The Los Angeles Unified School district is the largest second largest in the country a similar threat was made to new York City Schools that officials there chose not to close any campuses. The threat and los angeles prompted police to set up security in San Francisco and oakland schools as a precaution. Reporter a potential terrorist threat to schools in Southern California immediately prompted open School District police chief to reach out to collect and los angeles. I could see some of closing the school and i could see someone not closing school. Reporter los angeles closed schools while new york dismissed it as a hoax. He said it was really easy to secondguess someone when you are not responsible for the decision of the outcome of that decision. There is no threat to schools and oakland, the same goes for San Francisco. The police increased patrols around campuses. We reminded the School Resource officers and they contacted the schools to remind them if they see anything suspicious to keep an eye out. Reporter the San Francisco Unified School District reminded staff of emergency procedures. Closing school is serious but they air on the side of caution when it comes to safety. A lot of times you dont have all the information so we all we always need to make that decision quickly and then get the information afterwards, in that case we would do something similar to what la did if we felt it was a credible threat. Reporter in the past few months several a area schools have been closed or lockdown because of threats. Threats are nothing new and officers must not get complacent. Both men were severely injured and hospitalized for months. Burgess turned himself in, police are still looking for brown. More shipping containers were spotted off the bay area coast today after a wave washed 12 off of a cargo ship. One was floating just south of the pacific appear. Sarah hogan was back in class today to tell her friends she is okay but what she did was not smart. She was shot in the shoulder. It happened last night after she parked her car and left the keys inside to go talk to friends. A man got inside her car and took off. Hogan and her friends chased him and at a red light she open the driver side of the door. It was pretty quick. An Elementary School in south bay canceled an annual field trip to see santa claus this week following a complaint from a parent that other religions are being overlooked. It all started when the trip to santa claus was canceled. Their parents not wanted to hang out with other parents, all this added hate that did not need to get to this point. Reporter for the past 10 years kindergartners have been coming here where the owner says children can drop off letters to santa and support cocoa and more. But this parent voiced concern she complained to the principal and board of education the students also need exposure to other religions and holidays not Just Christmas and santa claus for many represents christmas. The same toxic algae preventing us from eating local dungeness crab is causing deadly problems for sea lions. Experts at the Marine Mammal center say sea lions are eating Sea Creatures that consume the algae that contains the acid. The poison can cause brain damage. The toxin causes damage to a part of the brain and that protects spatial memory. These animals become disoriented, they turn up in strange places, and ultimately cause permanent epilepsy. The brain damage is irreversible. Marine biologists say they could usually say 50 of animals they treat but this year because of the huge algae bloom that figure is down to 30 . That is sad to see.
